Had mine (a 2012 facelift S) for 10 years now. Put around 80k on it in that time. Utterly reliable, economical, very quiet and comfortable, and when provoked, a total lunatic. Even puts out a fantastic V6 howl at full chat. Fabulous car.

A nice looking Car but well out of my budget lol. Although I think I would like a shot of one. The Dpf is the one thing that puts me of the newer diesel car's I would consider myself a diesel geek lol. I have owned a lot of them. Having said that the 530D I had did have a Dpf and I never had a problem with it. The pressure sensor on Dpf went. Merry Christmas to You and your family buddy.👍

That's an early 250 model which had the same floorpan as the S-Type (Lincon LS). The "upraised eyebrows' were a result of the headlight manufacturer not being able to supply a unit the right size to keep the bonnet line and they went in the 2012 update. A couple of years on the car got a new floorpan and aluminum body (260). Tata bought Jag in 2007.

I have recently bought a 2010 Jaguar XF S 3.0 v6 twin turbo diesel. Previous to this, I had a 2008 Jaguar XJ 2.7 v6 twin turbo diesel for five years. Prior to that I did have a 2006 Jaguar S type with the same 2.7. All three cars drive differently. The S type is softer than the XF and less sporty. The XJ is very comfortable but can be fun to drive on a B road.
The XF definitely has that wonderful mix of refinement and sporty characteristics. Put it in Dynamic mode with track DSC and Sport on the gearbox changes the feel of the car.
It can easily munch away at motorway miles comfortably one day and give you an engaging drive on a B road the next. It definitely doesn't drive like a Mondeo in any way. The closest would be a BMW 5 series. The difference is the BMW wants to be driven enthusiastically all of the time. Whereas the Jag can do either.

One of my all time favourite cars beside Rovers and other Jaguars, I’d definitely love to own one of these one day. If there is any car that succeeded the 75/ZT it was definitely the XF, Rover has definitely lived on in Jaguar, this could have been the next Generation Rover 75, apparently the car that became the XF was on Rovers Board and then the project was took over in 2005 by Jaguar. I’d definitely say it feels more of a successor to the 75/ZT than it does to an S-Type Personally.

That can't be true, BL sold Jag to British Aerospace before Ford bought it and never Rover belonged to either.

@@davidpeters6536 What can’t be true, use sense for goodness sake, If there are any cars like Rover and that have succeeded Rover it was Jaguar and you know it’s a fact that Rover and Jaguar worked together in a number of projects including the XJ220 which had a Rover Engine and Back Lights. It’s normal for another car company to take over a project when the other one goes. Who bought the Rover Marque to copyright Land Rover oh it was Ford and who also wanted the K-Series Engine so bad, oh wait that was Ford too.

No, XF has the same Jaguar developed architecture as S-type which has lots of parts from XK and XJ. Nothing, and I mean nothing to do with Rover apart from Jaguar as a company being distant cousins in BL a very long time ago. Please, do research and you will find the same conclusion.

    • @Rover75ConnoisseurSE
      @Rover75ConnoisseurSE 15 дней назад

@@christianolsson834 and you use your sight and sense, the XF looks nothing like the S-Type, the shape of the 75 and XF are very similar, I think I know everything about Rover and Jaguar as they’re both my Favourite Car Brands, I don’t need some keyboard warrior questioning me. Yes the XF did use the S-Type Platform but it literally says Ian Callum Designed it in 2005, so where did Rover get a sketch from in 2002 and even people mistaking the heavy facelift of the Rover 75 in 2006 for the XF. If any car succeeded the 75 it was the XF they were both alike British Executive Saloons. Even if it was based on the same platform and share same parts as the S-Type after 2005 and when it entered production in 2008 it looks nothing like the S-Type and more similar to a 75 in it’s overall shape. How do you not know that Jaguar took from one of Rovers potential designs because Rover was a forward thinking company they certainly had a lot of new potential concepts and sketches.

Great video Captain. The last 5 cars I have owned have been twin turbo 3.0 diesels - of the German variety. I genuinely believe these are the best everyday cars in the world. The benefit of twin turbo is that the first smaller turbo gives good initial acceleration. These cars will do 0-60 in around 5 seconds yet return over 55 MPG on a run. The Police use BMW 335D as their motorway cars, and up to legal speeds the torque means they are a match for a M3.
My current car is 3 litre twin turbo petrol, and whilst the increased rev range makes it fun, I don't drive it hard enough to appreciate it. The road isn't a racetrack!
What did you think of the auto box? I appreciate you are old school but modern 8 speed autos are effortless. I wouldn't drive a manual these days
    Great video again!

I have a silver 2011 5.0 xf na. 250 000 km. In Canada. I have 19 in xk wheels black on it.... a tad wider. Had it since 2015. It's been pretty reliable. Big maintenance cost were spark plugs and a egn coil. Water pump and pipes. Mina gallery exhaust for perfect sound... not too loud. But I have a nagging ambient temp sensor... that keeps failing. Original one worked on and off... new one lasted 2 days. Tried everything except another sensor now codes are off with new water pump.

These are a nice looking well appointed car , but very affordable for a reason:- They will constantly be chucking up EML's and when you need to replace something it'll cost you an arm and a leg.
They're a JLR product, which means fashion over form. Fine if you've got deep pockets , but for most folk an absolute bag of worry as a daily driver.
I'm with you Captain , S-Type every time. It might be a dressed up Ford like the X-Type , but that's make it fixable my more people at less extortionate prices.
Tempting as they are, I'd run a mile, then get a taxi to take me further away from the temptation of buying one!

Funnily enough, in about 2009 when the XF first came out, my sister looked at my boss's then-new XF and she said in front of him, "is this the new-shape Vectra my brother looked at yesterday?" He was not-at-all impressed. Though to be fair, it does look a bit Vectra-like from some angles, like around the side-window area and the doors. The Jag most definitely would not feel like a Vectra though. Any Mondeo would be a far better car.
