  • In this video, we talk about the reasons why we moved to the Philippines, and share some of our first impressions of the country.
There are a bunch of things to discuss about this beautiful country, hence why the video is 18 minutes.
At this point we have been living in Makati, Manila for about 1-2 weeks, and we absolutely love it!
Here's another video solely focusing on our first impression: • Our FIRST DAY in PHILI...

You don't have to go to the islands right away. Here in Luzon, there are so many beautiful places to see including beaches too. There's Tagaytay (Taal Volcano), Batangas (beaches), Bicol (Mayon Volcano), island beaches in Camarines (Caramoan Islands where Survivor series was shot), Zambales and Pangasinan (Hundred Islands National Park). There's also the Banaue Rice Terraces (UNESCO Heritage Site and where they shot the Thanos ending scene in Avengers), Vigan (also a UNESCO Heritage Site), do the Mt. Pinatubo crater lake hike, and many more!

@@lostandjetlagged Welcome. I forgot to mention Baguio, the "City of Pines" (pine trees) and our summer capital because of its very cool weather. Might even remind you of your home country Norway. :)
Btw, best to visit Banaue before the rice is harvested and the terraces are all green. Sadly, that time has now passed (April i think.)

Don't ask people about "tuk-tuk". The term "tuk-tuk" is the sound of "knock-knock" for Filipinos or the sound of hitting hard thing, you will sound funny to some. Our term is "Tricycyle" or "motorsiklo"...usually they are in high human traffic area outside of the main roads.

PH has anti-mendicancy law that prohibits people in giving alms to beggars. There is a penalty to those people who give money. In Cebu, it is implemented. Here in Metro Manila, Social Workers and policemen put these street children in shelters but some of them are addicted to solvents, the reason why they go back to streets.
Just ignore them. They are harmless.

Each region in the Philippines have their own special dishes so it's too early to judge. And i concur, you should try lechon, our national dish. You'll forget those thai or indian dishes after. Cebu makes lechon best but not particularly in Cebu City where the airport is. You have to go a few kilometers more in Carcar or Talisay, (both still in Cebu Province) for the best and original lechon.
You can also enjoy lechon in Manila. Look up Zubuchon, Sabroso, & Ellar's. Real lechon is a whole pig roasted on charcoal. Fried ones called lechon kawali or lechon belly that's only oven baked, they are not real lechon but are all over so know the difference.

There are hundreds of Filipino food, different types and version from different regions. Most Western vloggers will compare our food to Thailand or Indonesia, just by or after eating 2 - 3 types of Filipino dish (sinigang, sisig, adobo, lumpia). We eat a fusion of Spanish and Southeast Asian food, that most vloggers have never tried yet. (menudo, asado, caldereta, mechado, afritada, morcon, embutido, estofado, rebosado...and many more) In my home region, our dishes are known to be spicy and always cooked in coconut milk.

Filipino food in reality is an underrated one compared to other international cuisines(even in South-East Asian dishes). That's why most people will prefer those popular and overrated food than those underrated one(like Filipino food). At least Filipino food is lately appreciated nowadays because of the emergence of Social media and some Reality media. F.Y.I Actually Philippine foods is the product of influence from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Spanish and American dishes throughout the Philippines history✌✌✌
