*******************STAGE 1-3 RETRO INSTRUCTIONS
How to remove the OFFSIDE /DRIVERS SIDE (LONG) DRIVESHAFT on the ford fiesta Zetec S - a retro description more to follow asap.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I RECOMMEND IS GETTING SOME SPRING COMPRESSORS - for 15 pounds it just makes it so much easier.
DRAIN OIL FROM THE GEARBOX AS PRE STAGE 1- prep
1. JACK UP CAR
2. UNDO SLACKEN THE HUB NUT _
nb it is very tight - over 200Nm - might need a scaffold pole
3. working under the bonnet loosen the securing nut at the top of the strut. hold the threaded nut with an M6 allen key as required.
4. remove track rod end carefully - use ball joint separator tool if you have trouble
5. remove anti roll bar ball joint - nut - again use an allen key to stop the threaded bolt section rotating as necesssary.
6. REMOVE THE MUDGUARD TO GIVE YOURSELF MORE ROOM
7. use two spring compressors to compress the spring
8. use laser tool - separator fork to get the lower arm tracking ball joint stud free from the hub carrier socket -
9. give a wiggle around once the stud is almost out to get the hub away and clear :) -
you can also give it a careful hit down with a small piece of timber and a club hammer if it is stuck but careful not to damage anything or the jack supports
10 - remove the intermediate bearing carrier retaining bracket
11. carefully remove the driveshaft ensuring not to let it snap fold down

PURPOSE OF THIS OPERATION
I am going to replace the inner, and outer joints on the drivers side long driveshaft as the inner one is degraded so badly it is leaking grease out. As I will have the shaft out might as well do both rubber joints, the cost of the CV boot joints is nominal in comparison to the time and effort it has taken me to get the driveshaft out :)***********************FORD FIESTA 2000 Zetec S
