Whereas, I liked the other take as it sounds more orchestral and open where "everything [is] in its right place" so to speak.
But then again, it all depends on what the end goal is for the piece.
Both definitely have their place, Derek raises a great point about considering end goal!
The piano was indeed very close! The big difference was the static nature of the sine waves whereas in the real thing the string was being modulated by some resonance or imperfection of it.
Aside the contrast, your reverb before and after reminds me mixes I did 15+ years ago. The more I go back in time listening to my old mixes, the more reverb there was. Not that I'm anti-reverb, it also depends on the vibe of the song etc.
I find the sweet spot of verb (minus selective variations in automated sends) is -12 dB on a 100% send and THEN adjust the fader to taste. And I've always wondered, since I came to that number through trial & error, if it's not a common "starting template", also given that 12 dB is twice -6 dB which is half as loud
Also: I did NOT know about the yawning technique :o Amazing
I made tunes for like 2 years before even trying reverb, then I started to use it sparingly and damn it is a magical tool for certain genres that really like to drain in reverb for soundscapes, too
Mixing is a form of art. You can get technically better with practice, but there still will be people for whom it comes naturally. They are gifted with it. It is related to ability to arrange sounds and audio clusters\elements to provoke emotions and hooks. Applying compression and such is not Mixing.
the drum of my left ear has been closing down on me forever and it took years to figure out why my vocals always sounded a little bit more to the right side even though they were always in the middle. Its like my stereo image has a dip of one or two db in the upper midrange. I need to put pressure on my ears every few seconds when I am mixing to get a balanced mix. Finally someone explaining that in a RUclips Thank you!
I'm sorry to hear that. To see if the channels are balanced, you can flip L and R on the master track. It also helps if the speakers or acoustics are impacting the sound differently. And in case you didn't, you should consider visiting a doctor.
@@yaro_sem thanks - I was in the hospital for a week because of tinnitus and this is when they checked air pressure in my tubes and realised that my left constantly has not enough air pressure because the tube doesn't let enough air pass. So I am doing this pressure equalization thing where you blow air into your closed nose gazillion times a day :D

2:22 that's how Roland decided Linear Synthesis was a thing they wanted to do. It sure saves a lot of power if you can sample the harmonically complex part of a sound and use synthesis for the rest of it.
5:36 is it bad that I actually liked the demo more? The hard delay and reverb added a vibe to it. Almost like it's being sung on an empty square with a megaphone. The sound bouncing off the buildings around the square. I think that's cool. Maybe a bit too "punk" for the topic of the song. The mix sounded a bit generic 😅

Mid/side parallel filtering for width, dang man!
Remember to take an artistic approach in mixing! Digest these videos then forget them when you do your art. That way your subconscious knows what to do but your conscious has room to experiment. Hope this helps🖤
