Yes!!! This drives me nuts too!! And just people doing it with any products. Like just yesterday I saw a video from Lipstick Lesbians where she was talking about the Haus Labs white foundation being great to help mix the correct shade so you have the right shade all year round when losing your tan. And someone in the comments said how LA Girl had a great dupe for it. I was like, ummm, what?! LA Girl has had their mixers for YEARS, waaaaaay before Haus Labs even existed I think, but definitely way before they came out with their foundation. Similar product that’s more affordable? Yes. Dupe? No because it existed FIRST. If anything, the Haus Labs is technically a dupe for the LA Girl. People just automatically think dupe means cheaper, but it doesn’t. Being cheaper isn’t a requirement. Of course, it’s nice when the similar options are cheaper, but it’s not necessary. They can be the same price, cheaper, or more expensive - it’s about having options. Someone might not want to buy option A because of a certain ingredient it uses, maybe they are cruelty free and the product isn’t, etc. So, they want other options, not necessarily cheaper options. Of course, finding a very similar product for LESS is better. Who wouldn’t want that?! But, just because something is the more affordable option doesn’t mean it’s the dupe. There’s so many products people call dupes that existed well before the more expensive one! 😂😂

Back in those days I splurged on my foundation but I only had one at a time, one mascara, 2 small eyeshadow palettes, one blush and a handful of lipgloss and balms. I don't know when I became such an obsessive consumer I do not create beauty content but I own 52 eyeshadow palettes, 11 foundations etc. I am trying a no buy on makeup this year and focus my attention to improving my skin at the dermatologist starting with a laser package and going from there. In your FB group I have brought up that we need to slow down and shop our own stashes. One, it allows those products to be used, not stored away in a box that has been shoved into a corner or in our closet. It also saves us money, as well as, time. The Makeup industry has been around for decades, its not going anywhere, anytime soon. Personally, if something is limited edition, well it sux for the company that chose to do that because if its any good, they lost money. All of these discontinued products that were good, could have made their business explode, but not now. Personally, I have slowed down on purchases. In fact, I've kind of steered away from makeup at the stores all together because I'm bored with it. I still wear makeup, but I am more interested in using what I have versus buying more. I put the brakes on. We are putting ourselves in debt because it seems everyday a new products comes out from various brands and what happens is we cant use what we just bought last week or yesterday. I just want to enjoy what I have. As far as watching influencers on youtube, there's plenty of content they can create with products they already own and may not have ever used since they bought it or got it in PR.

Think of all of the plastic...plastic saves lives in the medical industry, it also keeps our food safe in the stores, however I feel that if possible use alternatives...the packaging on makeup components could be streamlined and made better..to get more sustainable packaging means you have to purchase a prestige brand....the drugstore could do better...I haven't had a chance to try out some of the smart pretty brand, I hear it's at Walmart and apparently it's in more sustainable packaging...that could be an idea for a future video...makeup with sustainable packaging

This year I only replace the few 'empties' (products I actualllu used up & want to continue using). I donated countless hardly used pallettes, blushes, bronzes, hiliters and brushes of all types and kept only what I use. Some 'experimentation' becomes necessary when a loved product is discontinued (and again, they do this as a marketing ploy so trying to find a replacement product requires multiple purchases from various companies) ... but otherwise, I have a freeze on buying. At this point I know what colors/formulas work for me and I make minimal adjustments for summer vs winter looks.

So many foundations designed for cool/pink undertones seem to pull orange for some reason. And I always prepare my face before applying, so....Anyway, the tried and true brand(s) I've used for decades seem to have gotten rid of so many staple products, I kind of dread looking for new foundations. So true! Fashion and cosmetic marketing shifts are examples of cyclical change. It works because people crave “new” or “refreshed” looks or love a nostalgic vibe. Multi-use products have been around since forever. In the 30s and 40s, women would dab lipstick on their cheeks. In fact, berries were used to color lips and cheeks centuries ago and perhaps the first cosmetic. I wonder if anything new is even possible anymore.

I’m quite sure I own enough skin care and makeup to get through all of 2025 (especially including the bins of extra products I just couldn’t be without🤪). I find myself re-discovering products I truly loved, but had cast aside, and enjoying the creativity of using what I have. I will still watch my fav people here, as I continue to learn new ways to put what I have to much better use. Thank you for all you do and staying true to yourself. Much appreciated ❤💄

I totally agree with you. An example that comes to mind is that before there were no stick blushes and everyone put on their own lipstick as blush and I still do, then with the boom of cream products almost all brands started selling basically a lipstick in a blush package and if you think about it it is almost the same, because you get almost the same result and I prefer to buy lipsticks to use as blush, because there is a huge variety of colors, many people may not agree with me but that's okay I don't intend to convince anyone. I love your videos Jen 🥰

Matte liquid lipstick has been around since at least the 90s/early 2000s. I wore CoverGirl Outlast Liquid Lip to my first adult job in 2001 because it really did last all day. It’s been reformulated but it’s still around. Now it lasts 12+ hours instead of 24+ but is not nearly as drying. I still wear it because I also have extremely dry skin (I’m diabetic) and I’m uninterested in having to reapply my lipstick color a million times a day. It’s the only one I’ve found that doesn’t make my lips feel like the Sahara and allows me to use a balm (It comes with a specially formulated one) without ruining my color. I would love a formula that would allow me to keep my lip color while using any moisturizing product on top not just their special one. A girl can dream. 😁

My mature skin makes me particular about formula and finish . Ive always altered my foundation with diff amts of moisturizer to meet my diff needs (from sheer tint, medium to full). I have never ever bought matte lipstick because i feel it draws attn to my nasolabial folds, so i searched out shine lip formulas and now they are back on trend. I stocked up on Revlon glass shine when it was discontinued and now its making a return (thank u Jen).

Makeup sponges were around since the 50s and they were better than beauty blenders at least in the 80s. They were big chunky squares and they lasted longer. It's a brand that has been there for a long time and it actually works (I use it) but other brands that have appeared later have tried to sell themselves as 'new' when there's nothing new about it. And the difference is that someone on tik tok has tried it and make it go viral so everyone just does the same. These trends are really getting annoying.

I think innovation is no more there because of greed. So many brands are now managed by people who do not care about make up and it's community, and just care about 💰. So the fastest and cheapest they can create cash grabs, the better it will be (in their minds ofc).
