Eachine E200 Direct Drive Scale UH-60 Review & Test Flight

  • The Eachine E200 is perhaps one of the best small scale RC helicopters on the market right now due in part to the amazing scale details, combined with the direct drive main motor performance & efficiency. It also flies great!
It is however not for everyone. Why?
Like all finely detailed scale RC helicopters, the Eachine E200 is fragile and harder to work on than a comparable sized pod & boom 200 size collective pitch RC helicopter.
Also like all scale RC helicopters, scale comes at a price premium & costs substantially more than an equivalent, similar size & spec pod & boom collective pitch RC helicopter.
You therefor have to be a scale RC helicopter enthusiast and competent collective pitch RC helicopter pilot in order to appreciate what this amazing scale Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk RC helicopter has to offer without crashing it. The E200 like all scale RC helicopters is no good for learning on.
As you'll see in this review, the 1/47 scale E200 is an impressive scale heli. It not only looks great statically and up in the air, but it flies amazing well with the smoothness and predictability of larger collective pitch RC helicopters.

Addressing all rivet counters who have the same two comments/questions about the scale accuracy of this model:
*_1. Main blades turning the wrong way:_* What you may not realize it that approximately 90% of all RC helicopters (100% of all this size) have CW rotating mains, and in order to switch the rotation direction, Eachine would have to have a different FBL system/firmware to accommodate the opposite phase lag & reactive torque. Something tells me they are not going to that trouble or expense for one single small heli in their entire line-up. And honestly who even cares? Once it's spooled, you can't tell which way they are turning; you simply see an opaque rotor disc.
*_2. Doesn't have a true scale 4 bladed tail rotor:_* Some basic Newtonian physics involved with that scale compromise. All small helis like this one these days use a brushless motorized direct drive fixed pitch tail rotor because it's the best option in terms of performance, robustness, efficiency (thrust & energy), ease of maintenance, weight & cost. Thrust changes with this design occur only by motor speed changes, not tail blade AOA pitch changes; so the faster the tail motor can speed up and slow down, the better the tail hold & tail authority will be. A 4 bladed tail rotor would have too much rotating mass to accelerate & decelerate fast enough (slow response time) to counter the fast torque changes from the main rotor. In short, both anti-torque control and tail authority would SUCK. Other manufacturers have already tried this and it doesn't work - period! The most that has been used with acceptable results are 3 bladed fixed pitch tail rotors; however a two bladed fixed pitch tail rotor still works the best in terms of reaction speed, performance & efficiency. www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-helicopter-rudder.html
These are the necessary scale compromises required to have a decent & efficient flying scale RC helicopter in this 200 size range. This is not a static model that sits on the shelf collecting dust after all; believe it or not, RC enthusiasts actually want to fly it and we want a good performing heli while doing so. 🙂

Mode is a function of the transmitter, not the helicopter. The transmitter the RTF version comes with allows both mode 1&2 gimbal assignment. The other option is to pair it to your own existing mode 1 or 2 computerized transmitter as I have done. Eachine uses Futaba's S-FHSS protocol in their built in receiver, but as shown in the video you can plug in DSM or S-bus RX's as well.

Not a big deal to get readings and do repairs on these batteries, I just bought a second charger and wired in my charger's connectors which allow me to balance and fast charger on my smart charger and get readings with the AccuCell - it's not much of a negative at all. Before I got this beauty I stuck the guts of the XK124 in a 1/48 plastic model UH-60 Blackhawk with even more detail than this (obviously being a scale plastic display model kit) and using the plastic kit scale main blades replacing the XK blades, even replaced thew tail rotor with the scale 4 blade rotor but that failed at the hub so went back to the XK tail rotor, just painted it black, it is actually hard to know which I prefer, this heli is a bit bigger at around 1/40 scale but my kit bash is more detailed and lighter and cost me less than a quarter of the price.

    • @Rchelicopterfun

I respectfully disagree that it's not a "big deal". Sure you can do all that, but the majority of folks out there either don't understand how to, nor do they have the time to. Fundamentally, why should we have to?
Why should we be paying over double the price for a smart pack over a standard one? Why then spend even more money and time to purchase and hack a charger to get it to work with a charger you already have? Why are we being forced into proprietary packs?
This is absolutely unacceptable, never mind all the reported charger and pack failures on this thing thus far. Smart packs have no place in our hobby. If Eachine continues down this path with future models, they have just lost me as a product supporter.

How hard is it to add a simple gps position hold on these small rc aircraft, it doesn't need to tell us how many satellites and if it has lock etc, just a button that triggers position hold via gps if it has enough sats oc.

Looks like an e180 with a very nice body. Tail motor is the same. You can probably bind with spektrum with a binded satellite. Show us how to put a normal 3s in and I’ll get one.

Great review! I’ve been wanting a scale Blackhawk for quite sometime! Would you be interested in sharing your model profile for the tx-16? I can’t for the life of me figure out how to program it all correctly!

Yeah but what do you do when you have parts failures or break things. Everything is so specialized and it seems parts market is iffy for it

Just found your video on this monster, is the radio that comes with it horrible? Just curious, looks like you are using your own radio. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

Actually, the entry level Eachine E6 computerized radio is decent for a low cost/first computerized radio running Futaba S-FHSS protocol. I did a review on it (the XK X6 same thing) a while back: ruclips.net/video/lzW9m8899Tk/видео.html

Great video! It's really disappointing that the producers are equipping these types of helis with these closed batteries and that you cannot smart balance charge them without bigger modifications. Sure these companies want to sell more of their own system batteries. But in conventional CP helis there are standards like XT 30 or XT 60 connectors and balance connectors what makes life so much easier and safer. But this bird really looks nice!!

I have the Eachine 200 Blackhawk...I'm noticing that it's taking over 2 hours to charge it's battery...is this normal, and how long should it take...it came from the factory with 2 bars?

No they aren’t. As technology progress they have to have someone pay for all that R&D then add in the fact they time required to assemble a scale piece also adds to the price.

I am having a strange problem since last 2 months on my Eachine E200. It started all of a sudden mid flight and I crashed. Lucky it crashed over tall grass and the tail gear completely destroyed with one of the main rotor blades a little chipped from hitting the main shaft. Everything is good though. But the problem is my issue is not gone. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesnt. After throttling up and getting in the air the tail motor will power up and down throwing the heli in a powerful anti clockwise rotation and becomes impossible to fly. Its really scary to fly. Usually I hover a few inches above the ground for the first 2 minutes after take off and give some forward reverse inputs. If the tail rotor keeps unnecesarily powering high and down I quickly land it. It is also accompanied by a humming sound at around 40% throttle as if the body is resonating and shaft touching something and the sound disappears with throttle exceeding 50%. I checked the inside and nothing is touching the shaft and nothing is loose inside. Feels bad it almost useless now. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video John!! I’m in the process of picking one of these up and I have a Spektrum NX8 would it be possible to bind with that with the correct receiver? If so , could you direct me which or what I would need to do so please? Thanks

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  Месяц назад

Yes it will by plugging a Spektrum DSM protocol micro/satellite receiver into the DSM port. There are several micro DSM RX's on the market as you likely know. Your call if you want to stick with Spektrum or aftermarket. I don't fly Spektrum anymore, but if I did, I would get the Kensun micro satellite RX for it: www.buddyrc.com/products/kensun-dsm2-dsmx-compatible-satellite-receiver-with-binding-button?ref=-ptdbz6d-llb
