I never clicked on a video so quickly. I binged this book in 2-3 days and totally agree. So fast-paced and brutal and a good cast of varied characters. Super excited to get to the sequel! I'm buzzing for Jade City next month. Side note: Congrats on hitting 6,000 subscribers over here 👏
I am currently 1/3 of the way through the third book and the series just keeps getting better! with the popularity of the first law I feel like this should be way more popular than it is. It is criminally underrated. I wouldn't compare this to John Gwynne though, more like Joe Abercrombie or Mark Lawrence or Scott Bakker. I get John Gwynne stories have a fast pace and action but they are stepping stone YA, and this is full blown adult fantasy grimdark.
@@bauman921 I love to hear it keeps getting better. Yea, my Gwynne comparison is purely for the writing style, it reads very, very similar to Gwynne. Though the tone and themes are on par with the the series you mentioned
I really need to get to this. Not too much into very dark stuff these days, but it does have the Japanese influence going for it which I'm a sucker for . . .
I mean, The Darkness That Comes Before is one of my favourites but its not the darkest book of that series. Steel Remains is also one of my favourite Grimdark Fantasy Books. Blends Sci-Fi and Horror too.
@@SpacedOutReads man, Second Apocalypse is on another level. Prince of Nothing is like if Frank Herbert wanted to write Dune as an Epic Fantasy and asked GRRM to write it
Just found your channel! I looked through your videos and I’m now subbed :D I just wrote a dark fantasy novel but it’s not about wars and epic battles, it’s more focused on the psychological thriller aspect, so I’d say something like Tolkien X Dostoevsky. I’d love to talk to you more about it, how can I reach you? Thanks in advance!
