This series is meant for the higher tier reader. You will not receive explainers or have holding.
This is the only series where a second and third reread changes your mind completely and makes you come to love it even more.

Excellent reviews on this series Sir. I'm dying to reread this series more than any other. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Aspect Emperor. Cheers.

You said it in the beginning but yes, you have no idea how pg13 the first three are compared to the last four 😂. Best fantasy series of all time and one or two of them are my favorite books of all time. Are you going straight into Aspect Emperor?

I'm so eager to find out how much worse/darker it could get 😆. I'll be starting the Aspect Emperor next month!

Great review! Let me just say, I love that you put thumbnails in your review that breaks it down. That is a chef’s kiss to any RUclips video, especially when it comes to book reviews.
Do you know if this compares to the manga, Berserk? Or would you say it’s even darker?
This series has been on my radar for quite some time, I’ve heard so many good things about it, and you have sold me on it. And my twisted curiosity wants to know how dark it gets 😂

Thanks! I'd say that it's similar in tone. There are a few scenes in Prince of Nothing that is on par with how disturbing Berserk gets.
I'm not that far into the manga, but Guts' backstory + the imagery in the panels was heartbreakingly putrid. There's just something different about seeing actual drawings of it, instead of the brief flashes in your mind when it comes to written word.
I really need to continue the series soon, since every RPG character I've ever made is based on Guts 😂

@@hewhospeaksoftales Okay good to know! Berserk is my absolute favorite dark fantasy and revenge plot of all time, so if this series is in that same vein I’ll definitely give it a try. Berserk just has so much depth with Jungian psychology and Neitze philosophy, there’s so many rabbit holes you can go down. But you’re right, it definitely hits different and sears into your mind when you’re looking at the artwork.
I highly recommend watching @TheAlmightyLoli channel if you want to jump back into the series. He does the best job of breaking down the series nearly panel for panel and shows what he can on RUclips haha a lot of it is blurred I think but it can make it easier to consume and more affordable.
Hahaha dude for real! There’s not one RPG game that I don’t make a Guts character at least once 🤣 it’s tradition now!

@@hewhospeaksoftales Okay good to know! Berserk is my favorite dark fantasy and revenge plot of all time, so if this series has a similar vibe I think I can stomach it haha. Yeah the artwork in Berserk definitely brings a gut wrenching feel when it sears the images into your mind, but I think that’s part of the reason why Guts is rare type of character that transcends the page. There’s so much depth in Berserk because of the Jungian psychology and Nietzche philosophy behind it, it will lead you down many rabbit holes lol.
I highly recommend @TheAlmightyLoli channel if you’re looking ease get back into the series. He does the best job out of anyone I know on RUclips with video breakdowns for each chapter and arc, nearly panel for panel. A lot of the images might be blurred for RUclips but it’s a great way to consume the material without “consuming” the material, ya know?

@@chandlerholloway3900 Oh, that's good to know! As someone who loves revenge stories, I owe it to myself to continue Berserk.
I want to see Guts f up Griffith and them other dudes so bad lol.
And good looking out, I'll check out his channel.

If you are into books you are going to love Bakker's writing. The book mode make his philosophical musings and rabbit holes go deeper than Berserk's. Bakker himself is a philosophy professor and writes many philosophical essays.
The series in the long run is darker than Berserk in my opinion. Bakker is totally uncompromising and writes to fulfill his dark vision and not to appease the mundane expectations of the genre.
You will also get your revenge story and characters that are similarly passionate and determined. I think you will love these

Lovely. I hope you start the Aspect Emperor soon.
I really think characters like Esmenet or Achamian are very average normal people. I do not think of them as bad

I'll be starting it next month! Yeah, I think they're really doing the best they could with the resources they had and the circumstances that they're in. I can't wait to read more about their journey.

Currently half way through the second book. Possibly the deepest and richest world and lore I’ve ever read. Love the dark medieval setting. Plot is literally an exact copy of the crusades with some Lord of the Rings style return of a big bad. Criticisms of it would be that none of the characters are likeable and the female POVs are outright unenjoyable to read. There is also no humour. Best comparison would be Malazan, if you streamlined the story, POVs and sucked out all the fun from it.
