I had to watch this video solely because I saw This Thing Between Us in your thumbnail! This book is seriously a top favorite of mine too, and I constantly am telling people about it too. The grief aspect hit me so hard. It was perfect!
How did you enjoy this book? I’ve heard a lot of people recommend it , and so I read it a couple years ago and I just couldn’t stand it. @@seliabizzarro1188 I think it did a great job of telling this love story. Pages of "tell me you love me without telling me" with hints of tragedy woven throughout. The 2nd person POV was interesting and the themes of possession and fate were handled in a way I hadn't seen before. I watched the I’m Thinking of Ending Things movie before reading the book. Whole time I was very confused and I didn’t know what was happening but I sort of enjoyed it? Fast forward a few years later and I find a used copy on my local bookstore so I decided to pick it up since a friend of mine told me the book was not as confusing. Now, at this time I had forgotten a lot of things about the movie but I was still debating whether to read it or not since I hate watching movies first and I did it just because I saw it on Netflix and I didn’t know it was an adaptation. The book was a million times better, even having a vague idea of what was going to happen I was still SO tense throughout it, and frankly scared at points. I mean, I agree with you, it’s not an easy book to translate into a movie and that made me appreciate the movie more since it’s sort of a stream of consciousness book so they did what they could, but how I wish I would’ve read the book first because I think I would’ve loved it a lot more
they definitely did the best they could’ve done with the movie! the source material just seems so ill suited to film it is honestly kind of impressive they managed to do anything with it
Oh man, I had no idea I’m Thinking of Ending Things was originally a book, I’m one of the unfortunates who saw the movie with no context and I was so angry at it for building up all this tension and revealing all these puzzle pieces that I could tell were connected, I just wasn’t sure HOW exactly, and I was really looking forward to that mystery coming to fruition, only for the movie to basically flip the table over at the last second, scattering the puzzle pieces, and acting like doing so was somehow clever. No actually, you just threw an entire perfectly good story into the trash and then expected applause, fuck that and fuck you. (directed at the filmmakers I mean) I’d honestly love to know what the FUCK they were even remotely trying to go for with that, and see that creepy mystery PROPERLY unraveled, so I’ll have to give it a read! (Side note: it also drove me INSANE that like half the movie took place in a car ride and NEITHER OF THEM HAD SEATBELTS ON THE ENTIRE GODDAMN TIME)

I feel you on the thumbnail thing. I hate selfies, the idea of posing for a thumbnail photo it freaks me out. So I just never take selfies. River Phoenix in one interview talks about how he hates being captured so much on camera, and how he started having superstitions after he learned about how Native Americans believe that cameras take away people's souls in small pieces with each photograph. Video seems a bit different even though it's technically thousands of stills, it's this still aspect of photographs that seem uncanny to me. Great channel 👍

I think you should read We Spread (it's by the same author of I'm thinking of ending things, and it's very, VERY weird). I'm definitely going to check out The need, you made it sound so interesting!
I just picked up Ghost Wall and was looking for reviews. Good to see we have similar taste in books! This Thing Between Us gave me A24/Hereditary vibes I love it so muchhhhh
a24 vibes is the perfect description god it was so good let me know your thoughts on ghost wall!! it’s a little bit slower paced than this thing between us but because it’s super short i found it hard to put down
Read The Need due to this video. Really enjoyed it, but I also could not tell you what happened at the end. It sort of seemed like maybe she wasnt sure how to end it, but that's okay, the rest was good enough. Also read Ghost Wall, and loved it!
1. New subscriber 2. I screamed when you mentioned the last book. I LOVED this book. Honestly, I'm going to have to reread for spooky season. Soooooo good.
Hi i read This Thing Between Us last night (in a span of maybe 3 hours) on your recommendation and i was HOLLERING while reading it and when it was over I had to reread the ending like 3 times and then stare into space for a minute. Everyone should read this book
This popped up in my suggestions and I’m so glad:) Gus Moreno’s book was spooky and beautiful but I always think about one part with the belly button and it repulses me so badly, so effective haha. Thanks for the other suggestions~
i need to tell you that This Thing Between Us changed my life and im not sure ill read anything as good ever again and therefore you changed my life so thank you
I put The Thing Between Us on my wishlist -- this is absolutely my kind of book. I also loved The Need and I'm Thinking of Ending Things. It's not totally the same, but another book I loved about grief is called Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter. There is a giant crow that is the manifestation of the father's grief when his wife dies. So freaking creepy, so freaking awesome! 💚
Desperately want to read this thing between us but unfortunately it hasn't been translated and published on Brazil yet and the American copies are super expansive
Ngl I saw “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” before I read the book and LOVED IT! It definitely doesn’t hurt that it was adapted and directed by Charlie Kaufman, combined with the out of this world cast with the likes of Jessie Buckley, Jessie Plemons, Toni Collette, and David Thewlis. It’s so deeply unsettling and really captures the tone of the novel but you are most certainly correct, they do stray away a bit from the original text but for me personally it worked :)
this is my first video of yours. i just hopped on my libby app and borrowed all of these that were available from my library (anr requested the two that arent!)
Okay so... I read this thing between us... I feel empty now and I need a review with spoilers from you so that I can make peace with what happened and why Thank you, love your work ♥️

You know, I've read a lot of conflicting reviews about TTBU ... but after watching this vid and seeing how moved you are by it, I'm in! Have it on my Audible TBR
Hi there Frankie. Thank you for this, two or three of those are very interesting.👍
I loved This Thing Between Us so so much. I wrote an analysis paper on it in college just so I could talk more about it haha
this thing between us mention 🗣️ god i love that book so much, would also highly recommend people listen to the audiobook bc it elevates the reading experience SO much
Your enthusiasm was very persuasive, went and bought 'This thing between us' on kindle before you could even finish talking about it. Going to start it now, can't wait! I just finished Earthlings and was craving some new modern horror, thank you for the recs :)
Oh my gosh, your way of talking about books is marvelous. Now I want to read them all, and I'm not even fan of thrillers.
I READ THIS THING BETWEEN US BC OF YOUR VIDEO AND IT LITERALLYYYYY CHANGED ME IT WAS SO GOOD
the best book i’ve ever read
YESSS IM SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS
I think you should read We Spread (it's by the same author of I'm thinking of ending things, and it's very, VERY weird). I'm definitely going to check out The need, you made it sound so interesting!
I’ve been reading some of your recs and really enjoying them!
i thought natural beauty was a lit fic book and then i got jumpscared by the body horror and i have not been able to stop thinking about it since 😔😔
I just picked up Ghost Wall and was looking for reviews. Good to see we have similar taste in books! This Thing Between Us gave me A24/Hereditary vibes I love it so muchhhhh
a24 vibes is the perfect description god it was so good
let me know your thoughts on ghost wall!! it’s a little bit slower paced than this thing between us but because it’s super short i found it hard to put down
Death Is a Lonely Business is a perfect spooky/rainy day book!
Read The Need due to this video. Really enjoyed it, but I also could not tell you what happened at the end. It sort of seemed like maybe she wasnt sure how to end it, but that's okay, the rest was good enough. Also read Ghost Wall, and loved it!
I'm so glad you also read "This Thing Between Us" that book destroyed me
Definitely subscribed! Finally found some different books to read
I read The Need a while ago and didn’t care for it so I’m glad it resonated with you!
The Thing Between Us is sooo cosmic horror!! “It was you, man” I know exactly what you were saying!!!
1. New subscriber 2. I screamed when you mentioned the last book. I LOVED this book. Honestly, I'm going to have to reread for spooky season. Soooooo good.
1:01 read this 2 years ago and still think about it sometimes, it was so fuvking tenseee 😭😭😭
Thanks for the other suggestions~
the whole book is soo visceral, i’m so excited to see more from him
i need to tell you that This Thing Between Us changed my life and im not sure ill read anything as good ever again and therefore you changed my life so thank you
i have been waiting to find ur channel my entire life i fear. amazing content
oh that sounds so good !! i have a different book from max porter checked out right now i’ll have to check that one out
@@frankiesshelf I love his writing!
theres so many personal reasons that i need to read Ghost Wall RIGHT NOW
let me know what you think of it!!
@@frankiesshelf i already ordered it from my library, as soon as it comes in, i sure will! ☺️☺️
Desperately want to read this thing between us but unfortunately it hasn't been translated and published on Brazil yet and the American copies are super expansive
Never watched any of your videos but I’m 30 seconds in and I’m absolutely locked in.
I watch horror, love true crime, read stuff like bridgerton, and outlander….. I’ve been craving horror lately, thank you
your voice is sooooooo nice! also love some good book recs! thanks love! I just subbed!
Going to the bookstore today and buying This Thing Between Us now
I'm starting This thing between us immediately after watching this. Thank for the recommendations :D
Great video! Getting "the thing between us" now!
I’m going to read all of these except maybe paradais because it’s not an audiobook, can’t wait
It’s so deeply unsettling and really captures the tone of the novel but you are most certainly correct, they do stray away a bit from the original text but for me personally it worked :)
i forgot how crazy the cast is and kaufman is definitely the only one out there who could do it any justice
I’m glad i found this channel. I don’t watch book RUclips videos but just from the thumbnail im like oh I trust their opinion and i was right
this is my first video of yours. i just hopped on my libby app and borrowed all of these that were available from my library (anr requested the two that arent!)
Okay so... I read this thing between us... I feel empty now and I need a review with spoilers from you so that I can make peace with what happened and why
Thank you, love your work ♥️
At your insistence, I've read Gus Moreno's THIS THING BETWEEN US.
You were not wrong‼
