I had to say that your videos are so well articulated, well placed and informative. You're also a very personable presenter. Looking forward to seeing what subjects you're going to give next.
I saw lou sullivans diaries... I clicked For context Lou Sullivan's diaries genuinely changed my perspective on being queer, trans and alive. I felt so connected to Lou as so many of his feeling reflected my own to a T (like word for word in some instances, there were phrases he had written that I had written in my own diaries before I even knew who Lou was) and seeing them reflected from someone who was alive 50, 70 years ago was honestly life changing. I had a real "OHHH, I'm not a freak or weird, this is just what we do and how we feel" moment and the fact that Lou was so happy is also revolutionary in my opinion. I love how you explained your experience with this book and I thank you for that. It's so overlooked and I wish more people would read it.
two dumb comments and then one more moderately smart one: - thank you for articulating why i can’t read writer’s diaries. it feels like i’m intruding in someone’s house - hardcovers are the Worst, i’m glad you agree - i haven’t read stone butch blues and i am terrified to read it. i’m not even necessarily worried about content warning stuff, i can read just about anything, but the way you described it hits juuuuuust a little bit too close to home lol. i’ve no doubt i’ll love and appreciate it when i get to it, but (as a butch lesbian) i haven’t really read anything that truly represents me that way and i’m almost scared of the mirror it will hold up to myself. anyways, love your videos! all the topics have been super interesting and i’ve loved watching :)
i totally get that with stone butch blues i avoided it for YEARS and when i finally read it i was forced to address things i had been repressing since i was born … it was very demanding you are fully right in being afraid but i hope one day you’ll be in the right place for it !!
Stone butch blues is The book of all time for me. Read it once about 10 years ago and thought I got everything I needed out of it. Reread it again last year and I was just hit with so much….So Much. Our community……. I would definitely recommend Leslie’s nonfiction books if you haven’t read them! Hir work definitely helped me to re-come to terms with my identity and who I am and who I am to the world vs who I am internally etc etc such an amazing author and an amazing person
i’ve been watching all your videos (i’m a bc person too!!) and oh my god, stone butch blues. i KNOW. god it’s so good, i NEED to read it over and over i NEED physical copy. i love leslie feinberg. #1 book ever
I pretty like ur channel ‼️‼️ keep doing these videos bc most of the books that u recommend are so interesting and are helping me to keep reading more! Right now I'm in a bookmarathon of the ones that u recommended in the last video of scary fiction and they're so GOOD. Please keep doing videos now u have a loyal follower here 🫡🫡
i recently read 'the vegetarian' by han kang; went in totally blind because a friend recommended it and like you, i think the back spoils too much. all i can really say is that it was similarly devastating, about a woman's battle with mental illness from the pov of three people in her life instead of her, and the first two parts were just devastating while the last third was almost like a catharsis. the ending wasn't conventionally 'satisfying' to be fair, but it made sense for it to end where it was (in my opinion, at least--sometimes i think it's sort of frustrating when everything is 'fixed' by the end). if you haven't read it, i think you could appreciate it similarly. on another note, i'm always so pleasantly surprised by the books you share; i've never even heard of most of them and aaah my wallet!! i love being able to branch out.
I so enjoy your videos. You have a great voice, very intelligent (and also funny) reviews, and also have helped me find a lot of enjoyable books that I might not have otherwise read. My goal is to read 200 books this year and I’m having a hard time limiting my final 20 books thanks to your reviews! I have lots of books added to my TBR. Also, thanks for the add on Goodreads! I love following along with your reading list!
So happy to hear another person who doesn’t enjoy hardcovers of dust jackets! For me it’s definitely a textural thing, I just prefer how paperbacks feel
I am so comforted by being on the same page as someone as far as hardcovers go. Touching them makes me sick. Holding them makes my wrists tired. They feel like a weapon. get them away from me
Not stone butch blues lmaooo that book is also really funny and sweet and heartwarming in a way that is incomparable to anything else I’ve ever read imo
I literally went on a deep dive about Pinochet and Chile today after reading the novella Space Invaders by Nona Fernandez. I'll have to check out Something Fierce now. Taking the Rap sounds interesting but intense. I've wanted to read Stone Butch Blues for years, but I've been putting it off because I know it will be a brutal read.
there is SO MUCH to know !! something fierce has a ton about the intricacies of life in south america at the time, and about how much the united states influenced the political landscape space invaders looks great!! i’m super excited to check it out
i read a memoir by a MIR member (spoiling it because i dont think there will ever be an English translation) in which he spends years traning with guns and stuff, it's part of Allende's personal guard, etc., and then is the coup and his only armed intervention is shooting a cop's car... and killing a camarade because other militants had taken the car from the cops. It ends there as well. Welcome to Latam, I say.
the school for good mothers was one of my favorite books of 2023. had me CRYING on the train commute, it was so suffocating being in the mind of that character.
Just here to say that I found your channel in the most random way and I thank the algorithm for it cause you are so interesting and your approach to reading is so refreshing 🧚 also gonna read whatever gay book you are gonna share
me tooo idk why as a child i really liked them (i think i just thought it made me a serious reader lmaoooo) but i like them less and less with every year, theyre so heavy and big and clumpsy to use & if u read them u have to put the dust jacket somehwere, its horrible
I'd kinda like to hear your take on Milk Blood Heat by Dantiel W Moniz. It's a short story too👍 Also I just found your channel and I've binged through your content! Can't wait for more❤
I had to say that your videos are so well articulated, well placed and informative. You're also a very personable presenter. Looking forward to seeing what subjects you're going to give next.

i feel the same way!! it changed my life to read so intimately about someone in such a different time who felt the same way as i do

i read stone butch blues at the beginning of the year. 100% wrecked up my heart

just found your channel and have spent the past few days binging your videos. love the content can’t wait for more⛄️⛄️
Not stone butch blues lmaooo that book is also really funny and sweet and heartwarming in a way that is incomparable to anything else I’ve ever read imo
i think the heartwarming parts made me even more emotional than the intense trauma god it’s so good
I feel like people undervalue dread as a powerful and important emotion. Even if some of these suck to consume, I’m glad they exist.
Stone butch blues changed my soul
Dude I also sobbed reading stone butch blues it’s totally devastating
i think i cried the whole time i read it
I’m genuinely happy I found your channel, your videos get me so pumped to read!
Thanks for all the recommendations and for sharing with us…!🫶🏽📚✨

space invaders looks great!! i’m super excited to check it out
Stone Butch Blues, oof. I read that. It killed me ded.
I had the chance to meet Leslie Feinberg in life and it’s a cherished memory.
Having to shower after reading the water cure is rather apt
Not to sound too dramatic, but I could listen to you talk about books all day. Heavy subject matter or not.
Omg saturna island I didn’t know you were so close 😭

We both laughed in pleasure made me sooo sad! But also hopeful. But sad 😂
My tummy hurt, I didn’t want her to go to go back to prison 😂😂😂💀

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.
Heyhey! can you do a bookshelf tour? Id love to hear you talk about all the books you own :)
i don’t really own that many books! almost all of what i read is from the library
Ugh, I hate hardbacks too!
i mostly read library books and it KILLS me that 80% of them are hardbacks
me tooo
idk why as a child i really liked them (i think i just thought it made me a serious reader lmaoooo) but i like them less and less with every year, theyre so heavy and big and clumpsy to use & if u read them u have to put the dust jacket somehwere, its horrible

@@frankiesshelf Violeta and Eva Luna! Check trigger warnings tho.
