I just got news that my afternoon classes got cancelled and now you drop a video??? Should I mark today as my second birthday?! Edit: Yes we can hear your cat meowing and it's super cute
It's so interesting how our individual use of the star rating systems can vary so much. The way you described severance for example, for me would be a low 3 lol. 4 for me is 'I really liked it'.
SEVERANCE….. my book club pick of the month it was soo funny when she referenced bits of chinese culture 😭😭 the poem she receives from bartholomews email is super famous and schoolchildren have contests on their recitation abilities!!
i found ur channel about a week ago and i love the way you talk about books! i used to be such a huge reader and over the years lost the passion but you inspire me to get back into it 🥲
omg just talked to a friend abt starting the audiobook for bliss montage bc i found it in the online library for my library and that i remember the (striking? beautiful? amazing?) cover from it from one of your videos and they were like "omg that from the same author as severance👀" and then i open your video and u mention severance in the first minute shshsh😂😍
these violent delights by micah nemerever, is a good pick for books with a horrible mc. it's about 2 sociopaths who form this disturbing, all consuming relationship and end up committing murder together, its really beautifully written and i think youll really like it
I was one of the one's that said Severance is my favorite book of all time! I really loved your review on it and still agree with everything you said. My taste and preferences in books literally all converge in Severance. For some reason, my favorite genre is 'mundane but something unsettling' workplaces, so I loved the bible storyline. I love post apocalyptic books like "The Road" and "Wanderers", so I loved the fever element. But I'm glad you finally got to read Severance! I'd also be so sad if I lost a library book!
I have the exact same thoughts on Bunny like so close its almost scary 😅 The Grownup by Gillian Flynn is a fun one for unreliable/awful narrators, the narrator isnt like a super huge piece of shit or anything but shes a con artist who pretends to be psychic and meets her match lol. And its only like 50 or so pages i really liked it ^-^
I was so interested in your thoughts about severance! I was so excited to read and love all post-apocalyptic media. So many missed opportunities plot-wise though. Not that it was bad like you said, but I completely agree with you, it sort of flat lined for me. Which is so annoying because conceptually, it could have been so much more ugh
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS OMF‼️‼️ suggestion for books with awful characters is the Diary of an Oxygen Thief by Anonymous. What a fucking ass. I think vicious by ve Shwab is also a good one!
I’ve just discovered your channel (it was literally yesterday) and I love how you talk about books. It just so happens that you don’t love my favourite books and it breaks my heart 😭 like hello?? Bunny?? My all time favourite book 😭😭 but I read it before its current hype (in 2020) so I went into it without knowing it was supposed to be weird. I think going into it with expectations that it will be the weirdest book you’ve ever read might be setting this book up to be a flop. I’m so glad you still enjoyed it. It just breaks my heart you didn’t absolutely love it. And that you didn’t love Chlorine either, another favourite of mine 😅 but at the same time it makes me very curious as to what books you consider to be „weird” if these two weren’t weird enough. Because I love weird horror too
I just wanted to say I’m reading the spirit bares it teeth and it’s so fucking good I’m so glad I decided to try another book from the author after Reading his debut book bc this one is miles ahead as far as quality and story!!! Definitely check out the tw’s but it’s my first time reading any sort of story with a T4T relationship and it’s just amazing. Definitely painful and horrible but amazing
i stopped when you started describing bunny because i still want to read it but otherwise ugh i enjoyed this a ton. weirdly now that i know what happens in severance i want to read it lol
omg ! starting to get back into youtube and reading and making friends and like ! you seem truly lovely and so i am def going to subscribe, catch up, and keep an eye out on your content !
UPDATE: characters that are awful rec- i'm notably not done with this yet but so far Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman, if you don't mind like heavy on the erotica, is one i've been enjoying and eve (pov character) does seem pretty vaguely shitty
Have to say I really enjoy your channel, and am so glad you showed up in my recommended videos recently. A couple of books with really awful characters for you: Lolita by Nabokov - beautiful prose, masterfully written and a true glimpse into the mind of evil and the awareness of the existence of true horror which exists in our world. The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway - I have read thousands of books in my 61 years of life and this one wins the worst award for me. I can see what Ernie was going for with this one but the characters are vapid, cynical, hedonistic assholes! lol
I felt the same way about Severance. The ending was anticlimactic to me, but more interesting if it's interpreted the way you did. I'm excited to read Shards now!
For awful characters literally any ottessa moshfegh book…my favorite is lapvona. Definitely her most gruesome and disgusting. A touch of Jen by Beth Morgan, truly the most insufferable whiny main character but in the best way, boy parts by Eliza Clark if u haven’t read it yet, the guest by Emma cline if u haven’t read that
yay new upload! i finally got Ghost Wall! got some stuff to finish before i start it but im so excited. especially cause im going back to my own job as a historical reenactor soon 👀👀 im a fan of Bunny I'm glad to hear your opinions on it, and i totally agree about the interesting critique of the elite arts/literary arts world. i just found the book fun and interesting
Oh, read Bad Marie by Marcy Dermansky! Marie is one of the worst characters ever, but you can't help but love her.... and hate her.... and love her.... and hate her.... and.... 😱 I can't wait for next week's video -- that's right up my alley! I'll post a few more recs as I can remember them....
@frankiesshelf omg, she's one of my favorite authors! Everything I've read from her is amazing. I haven't yet read Twins -- her debut -- but I have read all the rest of them. We're kinda book twins, so I'm not surprised by this!
@frankiesshelf Pet by Catherine Chidgey; I agree with others who have suggested The Guest by Emma Cline; also agree with others about Ottessa Moshfegh's books; Open Throat by Henry Hoke. If you can possibly find it, try Ghosts of You by Cathy Ulrich. It's a book of flash fiction, told in 2nd person, which is unusual, and which I love but some people hate. The small stories are lists of why women (or, rather, their absences) are at the center of all murder stories, because they start the story. Ulrich digs deep and never flinches explaining why women are disposable. Of course, the murderers are the shadowy bad characters but this book is so damn unique, I bet you would like it.
frankie!! you have quickly become one of my favorite book creators! you have superb taste and i LOVEEEEEEEE how you get so many books from the library!!! 🫶
BABE WAKE UP NEW FRANKIE'S SHELF UPLOAD
EXACTLY my thought hahahaa, this is cool

i’ve found your channel recently and i’m obsesseddd!! you have just the right vibes and i love how you talk
thank you !!
I just got news that my afternoon classes got cancelled and now you drop a video??? Should I mark today as my second birthday?!
Edit: Yes we can hear your cat meowing and it's super cute
god i hope this is a sign my classes will be cancelled tomorrow
New Frankie upload? In this economy? Blessed

do you mind not meowing?
he’s literally so loud
can I get a time stamp for the cat meowing?
it’s 4 pm tue. 75 degrees. i ain’t got no homework but a frankie vid to watch.
So so so happy, horror is my favorite genre and I need more recommendations
HELL YEAH im so pumped for this
Books with insufferable characters!
Liars by Sarah Manguso
Aesthetica by Allie Rowbottom
All of the Moshfegh books
Lapvona would fit great in this line up
Uploading while I’m walking home from my lit class is such a little treat
I read the shards in February and can confirm, it never really gets out of your head 😁
It wasn’t clear to me either regarding severance 😳
Cute pun. I have to subscribe just for that. 😂
i found ur channel about a week ago and i love the way you talk about books! i used to be such a huge reader and over the years lost the passion but you inspire me to get back into it 🥲
John Robert Lennon catching strays 😂 mean !
You might like Hawk Mountain (Conner Habib).
Oh, yes, that's a great one!
omg just talked to a friend abt starting the audiobook for bliss montage bc i found it in the online library for my library and that i remember the (striking? beautiful? amazing?) cover from it from one of your videos and they were like "omg that from the same author as severance👀" and then i open your video and u mention severance in the first minute shshsh😂😍

the cover is so fcking gorgeous omg

I love you Frankie
these violent delights by micah nemerever, is a good pick for books with a horrible mc. it's about 2 sociopaths who form this disturbing, all consuming relationship and end up committing murder together, its really beautifully written and i think youll really like it
Yellowface by R.F. Kuang might be a good pick for awful characters! And Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov obvs 💀

A book with an awful/unlikeable main character could also be "The Death of Bunny Munro" by Nick Cave. I liked the book overall ^-^
Read the title. Now I want a s'more. I have none of the ingredients for a s'more. I guess I'll settle for more incomparable booktube content 🙄
I was so interested in your thoughts about severance! I was so excited to read and love all post-apocalyptic media. So many missed opportunities plot-wise though. Book with awful characters, When We Lost Our Heads by Heather O'Neill. There are two main characters and they're both awful.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS OMF‼️‼️ suggestion for books with awful characters is the Diary of an Oxygen Thief by Anonymous. What a fucking ass. I think vicious by ve Shwab is also a good one!

I found you yesterday and am really glad because I love how you talk about books & the way you summarize and analyze them
There's nothing better than coming home to a fresh Frankie's shelf video
I finished reading The toy collector by James Gunn today and not much to say than it is a book by James Gunn.
Aahhhh I love these keep up the amazing work!!!!
i stopped when you started describing bunny because i still want to read it but otherwise ugh i enjoyed this a ton. weirdly now that i know what happens in severance i want to read it lol
I ADORE your channel

I’m addicted to this channel! 😭😭😭
YES ANOTHER VIDEO FOR ME TO COOK TO !!!

Started severance, and it is totally fine, I am hoping I finish it and feel a bit “more” but after seeing your review I’ll keep my expectations low
i’m so excited to hear what you think about it

Have you read The Between by Tananarive Due? It’s a psychological thriller not a horror but I think you might like it.
ooh i havent but the summary looks so good

@@frankiesshelf hahahaha I love an ambiguous ending
