Briliant overview of the series!! I couldn't agree more with you that it's just like this series has crack in its pages, so compulsively readable! Unfortunately I've really not been in a grimdark mood lately, but I am sure I will love book 3 when that mood returns. Glad you had such a blast with this overall!
That sacrifice section sounds like the game Ghost of Tsushima which is my favorite game of all time. I'm definitely going to be putting this on the "read this year" list!
I just grabbed all three books from The Broken Binding yesterday! Pretty much entirely off of the strength of yours and Mike's (as in Mike's Book Reviews) recommendations. I'm *super* excited to read them when they show up!
John, I am an avid reader like yourself, and I do plan on reading The Last War series by Mike Shackle! Mr. Shackle is a new author for me, and I cannot wait to read his books! Thank you so much for the recommendations in this video!
I chanced upon this video (thank you algorithim gods!) and decided to give the book a try. I am on the second book and I am hooked!!!! And your review is spot on so far...though im so scared to see what happens in the end cz of your warning. Great work (from Nairobi)
*clicks pen* I'll add it to the list. It's always growing and you're not helping me here! Lol. But, I love your work as always John, keep up the great work.
The writing style of compressed pacing and then taking the speed out sounds really interesting. It is on my TBR for a while now, but I think I wanna read First Law as my first Grimdark series :)
Haven't even watched the video yet but I absolutely plan to read these soon. Finishing up Tyranny of Faith first and then I had promised to read Anna Smith Spark's Empires of Dust series right after. So this will come after those!
John you really sold this series! You got me with all the analogies to WII events! The Last War will be the next series I start. I want to finish up the ones I am in the middle of right now. Looking forward to your thoughts so far on the Forgetting Moon!
I am in an airport on the way home reading Forgetting Moon right now. I am on page 443 and I am confused how this is not much more popular series? Also if Mr. Durfee is writing on something new?
I listened to Memory, Sorrow & Thorn and The Five Warrior Angels at the same time, rotating days and certain scenes are so similar I forgot which book I was reading. However, Durfee’s story is only an homage, his own story which is really different and the excitement level is through the roof!! My theories why it had not exploded is the fact that Daniel Greene only gave it a middling review, not like he did with Suneater. Secondly, even though Mike put Forgetting Moon as his #2 book of 2022, he gave Blackest Heart a meh review and DNF’s Lonesome Crown. The biggest book tube influencers have passed it over but all said…, I loved the the first two books very much. There is one glacial river scene in the second book that is freaking superb if you want to forget you are sitting your living room. I still have not started book 3 yet, but will hopefully be done by your discussion panel!!
@@heidi6281 book 1 is bold, bombastic, down right operatic! I can’t see the next 2 sliding that far into mediocrity but we will see. First I have finish book 1.
Well, I have finished the trilogy. What aninteresting series. It is such a page turner and I literally had to force myself to sleep. I would get irritated or dislike some characters but the character arcs were fantastic. My only issue was that there were many auxilliary characters that would be introduced and end a few chapters (or pages) later. It removed my willingness to emotionally engage with many. Overall, this was a fantastic recommendation and has made me suscribe. Hopefully, it is the beginning of a beautiful friendship😉
That was an incredibly motivating video,i wanted to read the books immediatly after I finished your video! I love your enthousiasm and passion so much! So I checked to order the books and they haven’t been translated in french (I’m french ) ,I am a bit frustrated now lol .
I think Mike Shackle must have been influenced by a plot device from Prachett Wyrd Sisters of all books… once you read that one I will ask you again, I do not want to spoil that gem for you… I may be reaching…🤪 I do love seeing a connection, it is funny as Ryan Cahill also has Prachett moment, it is like Prachett’s satire is coming full circle!
This is one I’m eager to get started on! I have the first two books. Also grabbed Ryan Cahill’s first one. So many great reads.
So so many!

Thanks Esmay. Wait till the feeling is right cause book 3 can leave a mark or two.
@@Talking_Story Love to hear it! Definitely don't want to ruin a potential new favourite, so I will patiently wait!
I read it last year and it jumped into my top series of all time
Made my list as well!

Ghost was such a great game!
Yes, dang it. This is getting added to my TBR too. I'm gonna need another box.
More boxes!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts and I am jealous those are some very nice editions😀
Love your enthusiasm for the series! I have about 300 pages left of Until The Last. Excited to see how it wraps up.
Let me know your final thoughts when you wrap it up Jason.

Thanks so much for the sub. Glad you found it as much as of a page turner as I did. Look forward to recommendations going both ways in the future.

On my list of series to pick up.
Wonderful!
Really hope to at least start on the series this year! 😃
Awesome!
This has been on my list to read for way too long. I hope I can get to it this year!
Let me know your thoughts if you get to it.
@@Talking_Story I definitely will!

Sooooo gooood.
I do have the first book but I didnt read it yet but thinking start it soon.
Keep me updated with thoughts!
@@Talking_Story will do
Hi John! I wanted to let you know that I tagged you to do the I AM A Reader Tag and it is airing Tuesday.
I'll keep my eyes out for that 1!

@@heidi6281 you will have to remind me of this when I get there Heidi.
If I wasn’t sold before, I’m absolutely sold now!
Dude this darkness is for you.
I don't need no stinkin' reasons. It's been on my TBR for a while now, but my wallet says I have to slow down on buying books 😂
I can relate to that😂!
This dude could talk me into reading anything.😂
😂you are very kind and now I am a tad drunk with power.
I’m not too familiar with this series but my interest is definitely now piqued. I’ve added it to my TBR. I need more short fantasy series to get into.
I did 1 a month for 3 months they are very fast reads!
Well another one added to my tbr. Not sure when I can get to it but my interest is definitely piqued!
My money is on you loving this 1.
@@Talking_Story Sounds great! My reading 2023 was a mixed bag so looking forward to a better 2024! :D
