Fantastic video, John! And congrats on 10K, this is a fantastic achievement, and you definitely deserve it and more! Can't wait for the buddy read! ✨📚
Can’t wait for it either. Thinking a Saturday afternoon gathering to make it easy on the different time zones.
Oh and thanks so much for the congrats means so much to us!
Chance is one of those people who you just can't help but root for, I love his passion for his writing and reading journeys! Can't wait to read his book once that comes out, so many exciting things coming our way in 2025. Thanks for sharing the fun :)))
@@esmayrosalyne always Esmay. ‘25 looks to be a great year!
@chance.dillon Have you ever thought about using your DM experience to host an online D&D event for veterans. I've been looking to get into D&D but don't have a community for it. As a veteran myself, I would be all in on that!
I want to read sun eater world... but with all the books and Novela in between is there a website that I can find the reading orders?
@@jsboisvert1981 yes the author has his own website. sollanempire.com. It has a reading list on it.
I'm 100 pages into The Will of the Many, starting my New Year with a bang! Also joining you for Jannyuary which will be a reread for me through book 6 or maybe it was 7. So long ago!
@@readerinthedesert_SaraBeth I hear Will of the Many is great. Hope it hits for you.
What an awesome story, Chance!. Really enjoyed hearing how you took your DM story and evolved it. Thank you for your service as well!
@@jacobb3373 I’m with you I am up to read this 1!
I caught the tail end of your conversation with Chance and I agree 100% with Tom Orange. You should give the same deference or treatment you gave to Hobb in Quest to Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time. I binged the series and did not feel the slog. Yes, Crossroads of Twilight is a book full of new characters but I hear Erickson does the same thing. If Rich will not be your WOT sherpa I bet Daniel Greene would do it!!
@@heidi6281 I am not giving up on WoT. 😂not sure about D Greene he seems like a pretty busy guy.
I wonder if that would have meant more to her if she knew you read like 64 books a month :D
@@gryftkin 😂who knows
As someone who just finished Realm of the Elderlings a few days ago, I can't wait to re-read Farseer.
@@thatsci-firogue I bet the re read is awesome!
And I love a romance. Rina Kent is one of the authors I wanted to try. Last night I read a page of Cruel King and I was like OMG! Today I read a little bit of Yes, Daddy by B.B.Hamel (in case you think you didn't read it right, yes, I'm reading a book called Yes, Daddy). The book has BDSM elements included. I found it funny.
@@radudumanovschi3387 I am just an old softie myself and love romance as well!

That is so impressive. And at the same time it just makes so much sense.
@@Benjamin-w41 she is something else.
it's honestly sad how "book-tubers" all now do one peice and manga. it's not books....a while back, noone of them would give manga a second thought, but hey more money, i guess i'll do what gets more viewers. why not do reivews of Netflix shows, or anime, lots of views to get....so lame.
@@MrsPhilosopher can’t speak for all booktubers but I wanted to give it a try cause I have been an big comic reader all my life. Even owned a comic shop for a while. So I wanted to check out manga cause I never had and wanted to try something outside of my comfort zone. With the amount of books I cover a month I think 2 to 3 hours of checking out something new shouldn’t take too much time away from books.
Sounds like a great reading month. I might have to read Curse of the Mistwraith next month. I didn't have any intention of starting that series so soon, but it would be fun to be able to watch the discussion videos.
@@akellerhouse83 sure we will have some non spoiler sections for all of you haven’t got to it yet.
Epic list!! Looking forward to following along with your WOLAS read. So excited for your thoughts on Kingdoms of Death, one of the best Suneater books imo
@@Shelf-Esteem so excited for all of Jannyuary!
I’ve never read Janny Wurts would this be a bad spot to start?
I would start with To Ride Hell's Chasm. It is a stand alone and you can see if you vibe with her before making a monster commitment into a 10 book series.
Looking to start Words of Radiance. After that, continue Bound and the Broken and Sun Eater. Trying to get better at continuing series instead of starting new ones 😅
Oh man I want to do the same and try to power through some series. You got a couple great ones there.
Congratulations on 10K! Can't wait to see how this channel continues to grow
Thank so much for those kind words!
Curse of the Mistwraith is a must in January! I would like to get to Howling Dark if I can but I'm not sure because I'm behind on Wind and Truth 😅
I hope WaT is hitting for you! Awesome you will be joining us for Jannyuary
Currently reading Wind and Truth AND To Ride Hell's Chasm. SO EXCITED to read along with Wars of Light & Shadow next month! For January, I'm also planning on reading House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky, Berserk Deluxe VOL. 1 by Kentaro Miura, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, and Mad Shipp by Robin Hobb. Looking at that list now, that may be a few too many epic fantasies in one month, and there's not guarantee that I'll finish Wind and Truth or To Ride Hell's Chasm before the new year, so. Hm. May need to rethink that. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!!!!
It is always better to have more stacked up than you can get to than not enough I say. Looks like a great stack!
Gosh Dragonsteel was so fun 😭 My goal for next year is to force you to actually hang out with me! You guys were the hard ones to track down! lol
@@Bookborn we really were! The thing I whiffed on most was not enough Bookborn.
How exciting John! I am going to read Janny and Suneater next year, but probably not in sync with you guys lol.
@@BookishChas awesome! Hope they hit for you!
Unbelievable haul again John! Hope you and the family had a great Christmas.
@@Broon88 we absolutely did. I hope you and yours didn’t as well.
I plan on jumping on the Janny Wurts read along. I'm super excited! I'm just sad that Allen isn't joining....
@@brianbartels1525 got Allen on another buddy read in January though!
Can't wait for Jannyuary! So close! Some people were disappointed with Kingdoms of Death, but I was not. I loved diving into the other side of the conflict more and learning about the Cielcin. And the exploration of language was such a delight as well! I'm going to get into book 5 after Curse of the Mistwraith. I think I'll start Liveship Traders for the 3rd book of next month as well. We'll see how far all that gets me since they're all heavy hitters IMHO. If it's close to February, I'll start Wind and Truth, otherwise I'll squeeze in a shorter read to round out the month. And it's crazy to see 10k so soon! Congrats!
@@christhewritingjester3164 thanks so much. Sounds like you have an amazing stack ready to go!
Happy Holidays guys. My own January stack is pretty high already, so I guess I won't try and add anything new to it. First off, I'll have to finish my Earthsea Complete Collection by Ursula K. Le Guin. Already started with that, but there's no way I'll get it finished before the end of the year, so that will transfer over to 2025. As soon as I have, I'll most probably start Empire of Silence, because I want to catch up with that series before the release of the final part. Then we have the Talon Duology by Jen Williams, that I hope to get through in January as well. If there's still January left after that (which I hope will be the case), I also want to finally start with Stormlight Archive. I'm reading that one in German, and here the books are all split up into two parts, and because I found out that I stopped being good at binge reading, I can see myself reading only part 1 of Wind and Truth in January, keeping part 2 for February. Now I'm still under 200 pages/day (which is kinda my goal to go back to), so in a perfect world I'll be able to cram The Eye of the World into January as well. I want to do a reread of the Wheel of Time series, and as I've already read those books a few times (yeah, huge fan), this would be more of a comfort read to me. Have that series also in German, so this will be a pretty fast read, I guess. Oh, I forgot, I just got gifted Anthony Ryan's The Pariah, which I'm pretty excited about because Ryan's one of my most favorite authors, so maybe I'll put The Eye of the World on the Back Burner for a minute (unless I'm fast enough to squeeze that in as well). I also just found out that Michael Cronk from The Book Guy channel will release his urban fantasy series in January, so that just got added to the list as well. Which I guess will put me over the 200 pages mark That's it for January (and most probably, part of February :D). There are other series I want to start reading this year, including The Wars of Light and Shadow, Malazan and the complete Osten Ard cycle, and I also want to read some other indie stuff, but that's for the other months, and I haven't planned out exactly what I'll read after the books mentioned above yet.
@@Eluarelon holy cow what a list. You are starting the list off with some great ones. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on all of it. I backed Cronk’s kickstarter so I am excited to get that trilogy in as well.
@@Talking_Story yeah , have been out of the loop for quite some years now. Was an avid reader up until around 2005, and then I pretty much stopped reading at all because of family related matters (and the burn-out that followed). I'm slowly getting back into the habit in recent years, but that also means that I have a lot of catching up to do, even with quite some classic series. Can be a bit overwhelming to decide what to choose between all the great stuff , but that's quite a beautiful problem to have, actually.
@ you and me are in the same boat! It is a great problem. I have so many things to catch up on as well.
Congrats on 10k! You have a great line up for the WoLaS read. Excited to see what everyone thinks about it. I plan on starting book 4 Fugitive Prince in January

Starting the year with Janny, John Gwynne, and The Greatcoats!
Nice!!
I'm finally gonna read The Gallant! Looking forward to that one
Yayy!!
I personally thought that there was some ramping down in Doom’s Day Scenario but it was still great. I bought all 7 on Kindle and am reading them back to back as they feel like one massive book cut into many books. My interest has been piqued with the mist wraith book you talked about but I like to keep my genre reading as diverse as possible, going from one book to the next unless I’m binging series like Dungeon Crawler Carl 😂. So I won’t be picking it up for a little while but thanks for putting it on my radar.
@@wolfme4030 hey no worries. When we do our chats we will do non spoiler to start cap maybe you can have a lot of takes on it to know if it is for you.

Hi John. January TBR for me is still shrouded in fog. I finished the new Murakami today and liked it a lot. Up next I'll resume Don Quixote (still have 700+ pages to go). When I finish that I want to read A Clash of Kings, but not right away. These monster books in a row make me crazy. So I'll likely pick a short one or two ro be determined and go from there. Happy Holidays & Happy 2025.

Happy 10k and a Merry Christmas, to John and Jakob and their better halves, and to the fantastic Talking Story community. I bought Glorious Exploits in October and will add it to my January TBR. The US cover is nicer than the UK one. I want to commit to 4 books a month in 2025. so, the other 3 for me in January are: Senlin Ascends - Josiah Bancroft (I'm already 100 pages in), Red Rising (re-starting, I will get through it), A Death In The Family - Karl Ove Knausgaard.
