    Sam Young I really enjoyed your vid on the 300 series, it’s great to finally see one with decent rubber on it! Impressed with how you spoke and the quality of th3 filming & editing. My only (constructive) criticism is to make sure you are all over your facts about the vehicle you are testing. I think you find both the GX & GXL have the same spec of multi media unit & it’s not until you head up to the VX you get the bigger screen. IMO the best thing about the 9” unit is has a volume knob, not buttons. Really for almost $15k more for a GXL you are really only getting 3rd row seats & 5 mode terrain select. Also, I believe you will find it’s only the GR sport that has diff locks, sad it’s not an option on the base models, as there the ones we are most likely to find out bush. Keep up the good work look forward to seeing more 300 videos!

      Very natural presenter. Though, 4wd 24/7 is both a show and marketing company. Sam or the business he works for would pay in sponsorship or some agreement to go onto the show. No one knew who he was until he went on the show. So the marketing has worked!
      Not taking anything away from Sam though. Top bloke!

    Fuel filter on the chassis rail next to the spare tyre? Intercoolers down low in front bumper? Plastic underbody protection? Methinks there could be some unintended consequences down the track, if not on the track.

      Our 100 has 2 plastic square pieces hanging underneath our 100 series and have been pelted by rocks which are protecting the shockers from alot of damage.
      I can't see some of the protection plates being "plastic" as a problem unless you are rock crawling maybe.
      It is nice to see, however alot of under body protection.
      Not sure how the intercoolers will go

    • @AustralianImage
      @AustralianImage 2 года назад +2

      @@robyncrighton1255 They probably won't be a major issue if travelling the outback, or dirt roads generally, but I can't see them lasting off-road where you have to navigate rocky tracks. Most of the High Country in Victoria would see them left in tatters.

    • @user-rv6zk1pp7r
      @user-rv6zk1pp7r 2 года назад

      Agree, but almost all turbo diesel fourbies have front mounted coolers now. Good bull bar will be even more essential

    • @AustralianImage
      @AustralianImage 2 года назад

      @@user-rv6zk1pp7r A front mounted intercooler is fine, but most are mounted higher up with the radiator, not low down on either side of the bumper. Toyota's quote regarding the factory bullbar: “Thermal management was a major point of focus in the development of the new bullbar range, due to the placement of the Landcruiser’s twin intercoolers on either side of the front bumper… ensuring cooling and durability performance.” Durability and performance? Perhaps not so if you intend to drive in places like the High Country where mud, sticks, rocks and water crossings may play havoc with such a design.

    I love how at 10:50 you talk about traction control like its new, for years and years the Holden Adventra has had this and we've been wheeling around the high country wheel lifts and all on full independents dropping jaws because the average joe blow has now idea how well brake lock diff setups have come. Given the Adventra's have had this since the early 2000's. Even though the less promoted prado and fortuner have had atrac since late 2020 models, it still took a bunch of big name youtubers in oz to talk highly of it and now its one of the 'best systems' that comes factory. It aint new folks, we've been trying to tell people this for a very long time.

    • @GR8Tmate
      @GR8Tmate 2 года назад

      For that price you could own some of the junk competition which is full of rubbish electronics & unreliability AND it will depreciate like a bat out of hell. @@elrud5964 Nothing yo do with the 79 series at all. Somebody said you don’t get much for your $110k but it’s all relevant isn’t it.
      You could buy a junk LR Disco for similar money & have all sorts of interesting gadgets. It would also come with its share of annoyance, like poor reliability & crappy resale. That was merely my point.
      Have a great day 👍

    • @elrud5964
      @elrud5964 2 года назад

      @@GR8Tmate its nothing to do with relevancy, you just objectively don’t get much for the money compared to other vehicles in the market. You are doing mental gymnastics to come up with why the 300 is good value. Instead of looking at what you get for 110k. Which is very little.

    • @GR8Tmate
      @GR8Tmate 2 года назад +1

      @@elrud5964 Not exactly & there’s no mental gymnastics whatsoever. I’m not a Toyota 200 or 300 series owner, however for someone like me & the sort of travel I do, I would argue I’m getting the most important thing (all vehicles at this point should off) which is reliability. For where I travel, $110k is we’ll spent when it might prevent me from perishing on some remote track somewhere. I could spend that $110k elsewhere & no get that most important feature. The other other features I mention are merely a bonus so you can put that aside.
      Perhaps you could look at my point this way. I buy $110k 300 series & spend $25,000 getting it ready to tour. I keep it for 5 years & travel 100,000km with it (& because I look after my vehicles) I sell it for $100,000. Total cost of owning that vehicle was $35k. NOW, if I were to do the same thing with a LR (insert any number of other brands) at the end of the 5 years I would have dropped about $75-$80k.
      So, the way I look at it, sure I might not get “certain items” which clearly rate lower on the scale to some like me but I get LOADS for my $35k.
      I’m not trying to be difficult, I’m just giving you another way to look at what you are saying.
      I still won’t buy a LC300, it just won’t do what I need it to do, I need a vehicle that offers me less of what you are talking about but I will end up spending much more than $110k 😂

      @@robyncrighton1255 not hysterical at all. My point is that all car manufacturers now are on the edge when it comes to gvm and it’s even more apparent in 4x4s because they are used for touring. The freeboard just isn’t enough for the average family and I don’t think gvm upgrades are the answer. They are just a bandaid. I am the first to say just take less stuff but the wagons are really bad across the board for hitting gvm early.

      Perhaps some of them need to look at how much a previous series of Landcruiser was less than the 300!
      People can GVM to their hearts content, but unless they somehow manage to get their GCM increased, it will not help their towing capacity.
      I agree that the payloads are small- ish, but I believe the reason manufacturers won't increase the GVM from factory is because of the costs to do so and effect it will have on the vehicles unladen handling and ride.

      TMCA specifies the level of trim spec on the Toyotas, not the factory. As an example VDJ79 utes and troopcariers are standard with Reversing cameras in NZ.

    Toyota have gone down hill there shit now.
    Full of problems from day one full of plastic rusty bloodly hungry on fuel and the list goes on.
    Stick with the older vehicles made to last.
