- Cherokee High School hosted a Gordon Goodwin Concert in the Lenape Regional High School District Performing Arts Center in 2007.
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band performs their song "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes."
(The name of this video is missing a space separating Killer and Tomatoes because of the length of the title and how much RUclips will allow)
Great recording. I'm playing this in my high school jazz band! :)
@bassbonelover
The lowest playable note on a tenor trombone is around pedal E. A tenor trombone with a trigger and an F-attachment can hit two full tones lower than this, a pedal C. A musician playing a bass trombone with a double rotor and depending upon the tuning and pitch of the rotors, can hit as low as a double-pedal B-flat.
Learn your instruments before making ignorant comments.
the last 10 seconds are my favorite...
The bass bone player is like me- He's always emptying his spit valve because of how blasting his sound is.
I love Craig Gosnell's playing. Solid, BUT i dont think anybody has a better sound that Craig Ware. I've been fortunate enough to sit next to both of those guys in a section and Sitting next to Craig Ware is like being wrapped in a warm blank of bass trombange. Also Alex iles always kills it and i love it. Kudos to all three of them, Craig, Charlie, and Alex
I love this song so much. I wish I could be in a band as talented as this one.
Bad vid quality though..
I think he gave this almost exact speech when I saw them play this at UMSL 2 years ago.
me too. The clarinetist that sits in front of me sometimes complains that spit comes out of my bell. (They learned to live how loud I play a while ago.)
charlie needs to solo on some more songs! he kicked ass at this one!
@petarpwnsuall have you ever thought its the way that your director is getting you guys to play it? Jazz is jazz. if you put the real version of gordon goodwin's songs with big band swing, or even cool jazz, it will fit in perfectly. trust my, that is what my ipod is
I was talking about the Pedal C
but yeah that was a while back and I can pretty much play the entire solo now on Bass Bone.
Wooohoow! Nice Bass-trombonesound!!!
This is why second chair trombonists are the best; we are unrecognized, and undermined by first and bass. Charlie mopped up the floor with that solo, and why? He is second chair, that's why!
blurg normally I would agree with you but I've finally moved up to lead ;)
Ah I see.
Too bad because this recording of their concert has really good sound.
As a bass trombonist I really would've liked to see him playing....
Thanks for the great videos of the Phat Band though.
ya i agree but still at least the video has a good sound and that's really all that matters. I still watch youtube gordon goodwin songs with the same screen all the time lol
haha, when the trumpets play their last note, the second trombone player has his fingers in his ears. :D
And I meant, a playable note meaning within the instruments practical range.
No piece of music would demand a straight tenor to play a double-ped Bb.
oh wow I wish i could play like that.
I used to be close, (and by that I mean in my mind only) but I fell out of practice
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT CUT FOR, right near the beginning of the second tenor trombone solo.
Who is playing Bass trombone? Craig Ware's sub? I love the mix basstrombone&bigband.
Listen to Dudley Hinote of the Airmen of Note and Dave Taylor. Both great big band players
Lead Trumpet took it to a Double D at 3:08
Good video, but why does it focus on the drummer so much? This song is essentially a bass trombone feature and we have video of the drummer just sitting there....
@ugot2dowhatugot2do It is normally Craig Ware but in this video its a different player.
@Cranot
Nah it's the drummer's friggen awesome.
I play Trombone but I'm third chair. Same part as the Bass but a little higher! :D
peterpwnsuall none of his songs sound the same at all and how can solos sound the same?plus, gordon goodwin can do anything from latin to funk to blues.
I can never get that first C on bassbone
everything after is good
@DrStrangefate there is no pedal C lol
@km426 maybe it's the beard?
Personally found the sub was a bit too dark, not enough happy bright to it.
exactly my point
this dude don't know what he's talking about
@Garriss0n Definitely a cracking player! But i just prefer Craig Ware instead for some reason
I've heard double-pedal B-flat on a straight tenor, .487 bore. Lol
now which one is playing the bass on this one? is it Craig?
good but as a trumpet player I have to say that backrow politics is better
The trombone solo is rediculous in the origional composition
all gordon goodwin sounds the same.
Its a B
@corascantcustoms99 sorry but who are you to decide jazz is? i wasn't saying it's not jazz, i'm saying gordon goodwin is a boring excuse for jazz. i'm saying that if you played jazz artists mixed with gordon goodwin, i'd be able to tell because "all gordon goodwin songs sound the same". horn hits, solos, rare melodies. i know what i'm talking about, we play his stuff at my school all the time and i'd rather be playing authentic jazz rather than this unmelodious crap.
excuse me? please tell me you’ve changed your mind after a decade.
This is no joke the stupidest thing I have ever read
