    My buddy Anthony joined me with his Unitronic - Stage 1+ tuned B9 S4 for a 1/4 mile comparison VS my Integrated Engineering - Stage 1 93 tuned B8 S4. This was one hell of a fun day launching a B9 S4 for the first time and finally seeing whether or not the new B9 S4 is quicker or faster than the B8 S4 is.     I have taken my stock 2015 S4 B8.5 6spd manual to stage 2 single pulley....i am curious to know the difference between stock runs at the race track and now this tune....appreciate you finding a B9 to compare to. I love the sound of the supercharged B8.5 (cold air intake, and supercharger pulley).....i'll post vids once I can get to the track Covid limiiting. My tune is IE and parts are CTS (Canadian).

    Great video. Thanks for doing the compare. Astounding the old B8/B8.5 platform could keep up so well with the B9. I have a B8.5 and am thinking of a stage 1 IE tune soon. Both cars doing sub 4 second/sub 12 second runs is really amazing. Comparable to a stock B9 RS5. More than enough for a daily. Keep up the good work.

    Very interesting content as usual. Thank you! The B8 is clearly faster because of the higher trap speed-the dyno charts tell the same story. If I owned the B9, I would do a hybrid turbo upgrade and a transmission tune and just enjoy the car. It is very nice!

    Don’t sleep on the b8 I’ve had one for two years and surprised a lot of people best value performance for around 10-15k the 335i is good but it will be broke down everyday

    I've watched this vid several times and love the content. I now have a B9 SQ5 and raced an IE stg 1 B8.5 S4. He had a car on me on ea. run. Then i realized I was in comfort mode... Switched to Dynamic and was even with him on our 3rd run. Oh, my SQ5 is APR stg 1.

    I’m not totally surprised, there’s a video of a B8 vs B9 doing rolls and the B8 was pretty surprising and actually won. Nice comparison video you did!

      A roll race would favour the B8 even more than a dig. That doesn't surprise me the B8 won. Instant torque vs building boost. Torque may be lower but it happens extremely quickly compared to a B9 which makes more peak torque but takes longer to get there.

      I can afford the B9 but I actually went with a 2015 B8.5 S4 because I really wanted the supercharger and I have NO REGRETS LOL, it's awesome

    The wheel//tire difference in the 2 vehicles is a major factor if you are trying to do a direct to direct comparison. The B9 might have put down better numbers. They are both great cars can be modded to put up some impressive numbers. Can’t go wrong with either one if you ask me. Great vid! You got sub from me.

    First of all I love your show.... and as the owner of a mt b8.5 S4 the only thing that I love from the b9 s4 is the virtual cockpit. That's it!

      Must admit that I thought the same as a 16 S5 owner, now a 18 s5 owner I like the design better, the virtual cockpit, the real sunroof, the message seats. But the B8.5 is still sweet!

    Late to this party, but loved the content. I've got an APR, Stage 2+ '12 B8 with a whole shi* list of mods/upgrades, I've not dynoed buy reckon I'm getting 470-480 crank HP. I wound up mothballing the car for about the last 5 years as I modded it too much, it was just too aggressive and beautiful to drive as a daily anymore. I've since taken it back to a daily, and my son is driving my APR stage 2 Golf R, I know I'm nuts right. He's a good kid though, and he's grinning ear to ear!
    Loved seeing this match up. I'm biased, I still dig the supercharger in this set up!

    The one thing I really wish you would've covered is if both have the sport differential. Otherwise glad to see some good S4 content, please share more details though on the compared cars!

    B9 might have more power potential but it’ll never have that sweet succulent supercharger whine which means the B8 and B8.5 will always be better 🤷🏻‍♂️.

      I'd replace the words sweet & succulent with annoying 😉 I used to love it but after daily driving the car it just became annoying and felt like an attention seeker kind of car which I'm not a fan of.

    Really cool to see how horsepower vs torque affects quarter mile ETs and MPHs. Given a half mile, or a 60-130 run, your B8 would likely start pulling away. Wonder if a future TCU tune will make a difference for the B9's 0-60 and MPH too.

      I imagine a TCU will certainly help shift points and so on. No idea when or if one will be available. I've heard tuning the ZF transmission for all the different box codes is a pain in the ass.

      @@VancityAudi I used to have a ZF 8 speed in a tuned '14 awd BMW 550i. It's a very fast shifting transmission out of the box, even with 600+ hp. Not quite DQ500 levels, but good.

    I drove a b9 s4 and immediately hopped in a 340i rwd, both auto. The s4 felt like it was on another league in every way, the transmission was smoother, steering feeback and precision was much better in dynamic, the ride was better, and the engine felt more dramatic. It just felt more refined. The only pro of the 340 was the better rear seat room, which is important to me. But I'm between the b8/8.5 and the 340i. I don't know how the b8 compares to the b9 in those areas, and aftermarket support/maintenance is also a factor too.

    Local guys I knew it soon as I saw the scenery!! Pray your mechatronic does not shit bed in the B8 as well as clutches. Shell 91 is best and my B8 was ECU/TCU tuned via EPL only good things to say about that tune!, Great vidthe car

    Wow those are nice 0-60 times on a stage 1 tune. I’m running stage 2 single pulley and only managed a 4.16 0-60 but I am in a heavy S5 Cabriolet.

      @@michaeleric6405 a4/a5’s are turbo so they don’t use pulleys for power per se’ u can get a lighter crank pulley maybe for some gain but it’s not the same gains that a supercharger gives.

    why do you have a heat exchanger rather than an intercooler? what are the differences?

      Definitely a Google question here, haha. The supercharged motor is water to air cooled using a heat exchanger where is circulates coolant. The turbocharged motor uses air to air to cool and the intercooler circulates air.

      176th Street and 8th Avenue near the border crossing. It is a truck scale so make sure you stay out of the way of the truckers and don't get in their way so they can do their job and you should be good

    Can you dig up an old school 4.2 V8 and do the same? Have always wondered if my 2011 S5 would keep up with the forced induction machines;)

      I can answer that question for you very easily without making a video. Sadly the N/A 4.2L V8 would get wrecked by the S/C 3.0L V6. Once you toss a stage 1 - 93 tune on the supercharged motor you make an additional 85hp. Once you tune the N/A motor you gain 20hp, haha. Forced induction is king when it comes to bang for you buck power with ECU tuning

      No, the B8 modifications shown were extremely basic and wouldn't affect the reliability much, if at all.

    If my S4 has a 57mm (oem is 63mm) sc pulley and a 189mm (oem is 162mm) crank pulley. Any idea what kind of boost pressure that would be above and beyond standard. If you look up fluidampr it has the specs there for my pulley setup. Standard pulleys is a 2.56 gear ratio and with my config its now a 3.32 drive ratio. which means at 7200rpm mine is now spinning at 23,873rpm (oem is 18,448 at the same rpm). Which is what about 25% increase. In theory that should mean that mine is running around 25% more boost than OEM. Is that right?

    The MPH proves what the dyno showed, that the B8 is making more HP. The torque gets them moving off the line but HP pulls it through the traps at the 1/4 mile. 11.85 1/4 mile is very impressive. Considering the B6 and B7 V8 S4's with a tune and exhaust can't get out of the 13's. Even with more displacement and more HP stock, the improved transmissions and forced induction V6's are a better choice for performance.

    I heard you can achieve 10.9's with APR's stage 1 ECU and TCU tune with no other mods. I'm about to find out soon :D

    Most people don't know the supercharged engine is the better engine with better in-gear response and more character than the newer SINGLE turbo Audi engine. And the older S4 has dual clutch vs torque converter found in the B9.

      Agreed.
      But the B9 will be faster once you drop in a new turbo... yet with more lag added.
      I prefer the supercharger as a street car anyday

      99% certain the B8 would smash the B9 due to a much quicker throttle response as well as the B9 needing to build some boost before it takes off while the B8 would be nearly immediate

    I would love to see a comparison with both cars running an more aggressive ethanol blend.. I’m running 11.8s spinning on bald tires in my B9 S4 with JB4 only (no bolt ons), so I bet with intake, FMIC, downpipes and exhaust it would be in the low 11’s if he was running a higher ethanol %. Also would be curious to see how it would affect the B8s power levels

      @@reecemcdaniel7675 ohhhh so you meant with a more aggressive tune, not just running more ethanol. I'm honestly not too sure how much more performance you'd get running a more aggressive tune with a higher ethanol blend. I guess time will tell when more offerings are made for the platform.

      @@VancityAudi I would think a Unitronic stage 1+ tune would be more aggressive than my JB4 piggyback? The difference in power when running 5 gals of E85 mixed in vs. full 93 is astonishing (in an otherwise stock car) so for a car with essentially FBO and an ECU tune, I can imagine it would increase the power substantially. I peak at 24.5-25psi in 4th gear on E30, but can only make around 20.5-21psi on 93 without pulling timing. Not sure how much boost the Unitronic is rated for, but I’d imagine it’s something similar

      @@reecemcdaniel7675 I'd be more interested with your timing advance using an E30 tune with JB4 than a 93 tune from Uni. I imagine your E30 tune is calling for more timing with the additional octane rather than a 93 tune which is very limited to the amount of timing you can run with a file designed for pump gas.

      Now that I have owned both cars I can comment on them. The B8 loves to be revved out and needs to be taken to it's rev limit to get the most out of it. The B9 makes so much torque at 3000rpm that the car feels faster in every day use and you don't need to wring it out all the time to extract the performance.

    You need to drop IE and go with a Boost dynamics tune from Trent. You won’t be disappointed. Right now with a ecu/TCU tune my B8.5 is getting 405 Tq and mid 430’s awhp it’s been proven on a dyno. Zero BS

      Lol, why in the hell would I drop IE when their software and hardware have been performing extremely well for me? Haha. As for power numbers on a dyno, they mean nothing to me. Performance metrics like 1/4 mile ET's and traps is what I'm after. What have you accomplished in that regard with your Boost Dynamics tune? (Which I've never heard of btw)

      @@VancityAudi tons. I fully appreciate your honesty and loyalty. Accomplishments so far considering it’s 29 degrees and I’m at 900+ altitude. Running 11.9 with 3 people in the car, -675 of extra weight, full tank of gas...spun tires on launch and that’s on a .37% uphill. I have 2 mechanical parts I’ve added on my car. An IE intake and 1 step colder plugs. Did all this on 93 pump gas. Mustang dyno read 405 tq and 436 to the wheels. His TCU tune is incredible and the ECU ices the cake.

      @@PGHPYROKNIGHT very cool. Once you've managed some quicker 1/4 mile times let me know. I spin on every launch as well and am using winter tires in the cold and have now managed 11.8 @ 117mph a couple times. I imagine on track with a proper tire I'll go even quicker

      Just traded my 16s5 for an 18s5 , here's why .. tech , full sunroof, message seats, differential. I did love my 16, the gears were a lot smoother. BUT thought about 3 years from now and just how much more dated the tech would be in my 16. BUT honestly both models rock.
      Also IE is finally about to drop their b9 tune

    just by looking at that dyno chart. you already know which car is faster. the car which make power to redline and doesn't drop off will win. the b8 just needs a better launch with no spin.

      Sadly just by looking at a dyno graph means squat when determining who will win in a 1/4 mile drag race. Weight, traction, unsprung rotational mass all play a bit part in drag racing and what makes a car quick & fast.

    Thought stage 1 would put you closer to 375-380 torque and 425-445hp in the b8.5.

      The numbers I show are at the wheels, not at the crank like you are stating. You need to add a minimum 15% to account for the drivetrain loss.

      @@VancityAudi advanced launch control, cruise control toggle ON runs coolant pumps/fans at 100%. IE also had throttle manipulation to initially make it feel faster. IE wasn’t a bad tune at all just liked the more advanced options on 034 and it’s been solid so far also they have a meth file too

      That doesn't seem to be the case. Upon a quick search, the DL501 DSG transmission found in the B8 weighs more or roughly the same as the ZF8 auto that comes in the B9.
