After going to Cedar Point in May years and years ago.. I told myself I am not gonna go in May again, because a lot of rides shut down that day due to wind. As a coaster enthusiast it is very frustrating when you travel there whether it be 2 hours, 10 hours, or overseas. I went opening weekend, because of Top Thrill 2 for sure. I got my rides. That being said, not shocked about this, and for the most part I am not worried about it. The ride will run fine and be more consistent, but I expect May to be an issue due to the lake weather.

Stood in line on Thursday during early entry just for them to not open due to the rain (makes the ride uncomfortable). As the rain got lighter, ride ops started testing again and the train did a full rollback. Ride never opened for the day and every time they tried testing it to try and open it rolled back. Went back Friday and the ride was hauling then was down several times and they ended up going from 3 train ops to 2 train ops. Praying that the train mods work.

Here is my thoughts, and I tried explaining this to someone earlier. Part of the issue with the new trains is the height of the train. You sit higher off the track, the seat backs are higher. Which yes it affects the heartlining, and gives you more whip thru the twists. But it also creates more drag. 20 mph wind at ground level is probably more like 35-38 at the top of the top hat.
It's like having a spoiler on your car, the more you stand that spoiler upright the more drag. The higher rider and seat level is going to increase the drag coefficient. Which is not good with the lighter train.

    • @BeachcliffStudios

The height of the trains could definitely play a role.

What pisses me off about these roller coasters is the fact they don't fit tall guys like myself (I'm 6'6" & 320 lbs), and it sucks! I'm sick and tired if bot being about fit in these rides. They should make these rides more accessible to everyone! I'm not even fat, just really tall.

One train got too close to the reverse spike top on Thursday.

My wife and I just got married and are celebrating our honeymoon by going to Cedar Point tomorrow (yes Monday the 13th) and flying out to Fort Lauderdale on the 15th for four nights and then a five day cruise. We’re both Clevelanders and I’d hate to start the honeymoon with some mishaps at Cedar Point. She already said she doesn’t want to get on TT2, but I sure as hell do. One of my closest friends will also be going as well (of his own accord) and he’s going to ride it. We both got the fast lane plus passes so if the weather holds up, then it should be a smooth trip. I keep checking the forecast and I see 74 and partly cloudy. But that’s ideal to me. After tomorrow, I could perhaps update this post as to whether TT2 is operating or not. Love the video guys.
*UPDATE TT2 will be closed indefinitely until they fix whatever is wrong with it. This thing is a record breaking new coaster, that surely has things that will need to be worked out over time. It's HUGE, and has A LOT of tech and mods. Heat, wind, rain, structure, speed, rattle, ect. All that will be figured out as it runs through a meriad of circumstances and situations during the season. I'd assume that this seasons there will be alot of "fine" tuning of the final launch, in relation to adverse weather conditions.
The engineers will get a chance to fine tune it on site when the weather is being temperamental, then they could adjust the intensity of the final launch to combat the wind in order to make it over the top.

notice that in the video, any time the train is struggling to make it over the top hat, the ride is empty. with the weight of the passengers comes more momentum, making it easier to crest the top hat. if the park had put some water dummies on the train, it would have not had any issue going over the top hat. there is a lot of talk about CP and zamperla adding more weight to the trains, i honestly dont think it would be necessary. i havent seen any reports of the trains struggling to make the hat with passengers since the relaunch.

    A. modify the trains for better aero lowering the seats if possible as the most likely option since its taller than the old trains

Throw some ballast on the undercarriage in form of solid metal to help it not get affected as much since the intamin trains were much heavier but that could also cause much more wear and tear on the trains since they werent designed for that much weight without going back to the drawing board

Hey guys. First cedar point trip and finally have to make a decision sometime tomorrow.
First week I’d be arriving June 3 and staying 4 full days after that. The only real concern here is ride ops and the park not being open late. But pros are probably much less crowded right? My other option is to arrive June 15th and have the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I just have realized that the 16th is Father’s Day. How bad will crowds be between the two? I’d love night rides but not if everything is absolutely slammed.
Will buy fast lane if needed.
I suppose I could also look at the 24th week as well as that is an option. What do you guys think. For me this could be a once in 20 year trip so it’s not like just be back next year kinda energy. If it was I wouldn’t even remotely rethink it. I wanna ride as many coasters as many times as I want

I’ll be there June 3rd and 4th. Hoping TT2 is up and running and the weather cooperates. I’m making a 13 hour drive so I’m not going to be too happy if TT2 is not operating.

    • @BeachcliffStudios
      @BeachcliffStudios  3 месяца назад

June 7th you’ll get some night rides but only one day of your trip. Crowds shouldn’t be terrible but will still have decent lines on major rides.
Your other option is open until 10 each day but all weekend days. If you’re willing to buy fast lane then it shouldn’t be too bad for you.
The week of the 24th looks like your best option though. Open til 10, weekdays vs weekend, still would want fast lane for at least a day though.

Did you really think this wouldn't happen? This was an experimental coaster. New Coasters always have a temporary closed period to work out the kinks overtime now that the ride is fully open to the public. This should be no shock to the internet honestly and it's too early to tell if the ride is going to be reliable long time. You have to wait until later this year to answer that question. This is the first coaster lightening trains were ever put on EVER. So plz really this should be no surprise. The ride will be fine and will be open again soon.
