  • Learning how to move your shoulders in the golf swing can have a tremendous impact on how you hit the golf ball. Moving the shoulders in a circle will help you stay more centered, make a better pivot and hit the ball more from the inside. In this video, Jess Frank is taking us through his drill for keeping the shoulders down, in and under the chin in the backswing and follow through.

    I've been working on stack and tilt in my swing for a few months now and by far this is the most critical thing to really gets what's different/better about the stack and tilt system (if not any good swing system). Thanks for a great video Eric and Jess.

    Thanks a lot for the lesson Jess and Eric. I have had serious challenges due to subtle swaying on the backswing. Also, down and in on the downswing seems to be very compound and easy to focus on as it encompasses the transition as well as the downswing itself. Much easier to remember “ down and in” in 1.5 seconds. Great lesson.👍👍👍

    Great to see you back here in sunny south Florida! Great tip as well. I try to get my lead shoulder to my chin as well while also keeping an imaginary line that runs from the top of my head, through my chin, shoulder and down to the ball. Almost stacking over the ball and then swing around my body in a circle. Prevents that swaying off the ball. Has improved impact tremendously.
    PS - How is that range not packed, it usually is lol

  • @glennlane6599

    Excellent video, thank you. I understand the Down and Under the Chin, but what is the "in" part?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Glenn!
      The DOWN movement of the lead shoulder is from the spine tilting to the lead side (lateral flexion) and the legs changing flex on the backswing (trail leg straightens, lead leg bends)
      The IN movement of the lead shoulder is from the body rotating on the backswing
      So from the face on view, the spine tilting and legwork would make the lead shoulder work DOWN and the body rotation would make the lead shoulder work IN (to the left for a right-handed golfer)...those two motions together get the lead shoulder UNDER THE CHIN.
      Hope this helps!

  • @EagleJim62

    This may seem obvious, but somehow I got into a bad habit of turning my shoulders flat and not under the chin, then came over the top. This is a good reminder.

    I’ve had a couple of lessons with a pro at my own club and this feel of down in under the chin is the feel that I’ve been missing, it fits in with everything that she has been doing with me
    in the lesson.

  • @rickrappaport5216
    @rickrappaport5216 Год назад +1

    Also this is an excellent strategy for irons but feels like you’ll make quite a downward strike with the driver?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад

      Hi Rick!
      You do not need to worry about having too steep of a descent with the driver in regards to the info in this particular video. There are a number of things that could cause a steep angle of attack, but having a proper amount of side tilt on the backswing is not one of them.
      More details on driver vs. irons here!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад

      Yessir Ken....replace the amount of forward bend at setup with side bend in backswing
      So less with driver bc you stand taller.....more with wedge bc more bent over

    Do you keep your weight/pressure on your lead foot for the down in under the chin? Or is it a much more restrictive weight /pressure shift to your trail foot?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад

      Hey Rick!
      I would look to start at about 60/40 on your lead side and still be at that same 60/40 at the top of your backswing👍

  • @jack-hq7gr
    @jack-hq7gr 2 года назад +1

    So keep most of your weight on front foot and stay centered. Stack and Tilt?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 года назад

      Hey Jack!
      Nope...I would say 50/50 at setup or 55 L 45 R would be average for good player with iron
      Shift pressure away from target early in backswing then toward target late backswing
      Keep hips in middle

  • @kevinmurphy8644
    @kevinmurphy8644 2 года назад +1

    Is this the same principle please for the driver and woods

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 года назад +1

      Yes....replace forward bend with side bend
      So you will still tilt (side bend) but less as clubs get longer (because you are bend over less at setup)
      We talk about that in these I believe somewhere within
