  • Homologated for the World Rally Championship and led by rally legend Tommi Mäkinen, the new GAZOO Racing Toyota GR Yaris is a throwback to the 1990s era of light weight turbocharged AWDs. Available in manual only, this is Toyota’s first AWD performance car since the Celica GT-Four which ceased production over 20 years ago. A unique engine choice, the Yaris GR is powered by a turbocharged 3-cylinder 1.6L engine producing 200kW and 360Nm, coupled to an electronic variable full time AWD system, enough to propel this little Toyota to 13-second ¼ mile performance out of the box.
We caught up with the team from the Auto Innovation Centre recently for a closer look at some of the finer points of the Yaris’ design elements and where the aftermarket industry might develop future upgrades. | www.autoic.com.au

Don't mind the front to rear weight distribution, the important one is cross corner weight, which is at 50.78% to 49.22%. For a production car that is phenomenal! It would make this thing more chuckable than a crying new-born!

    2 questions guys:
    - You stated the diffs are open, but what I was hearing, there were Torsens front and rear. What gives?
    - You stated that it has a Haldex-style transfer case. That means it’s always fwd, with ECU- controlled rwd, either on-demand or proactive, depending on the software and sensor suite. And also, only allows for between 100/0 and 50/50 f/r. Everything I’m hearing elsewhere is saying f/r distribution can be set for 30/70. What gives?

Quality video. AIC seem like a very professional outfit! I concur with their findings/predictions.
