as an artist, I love the fact that you incorporated the line stability early on. that's the only reason I clicked on after all, to see what pen would be best for drawing.
Yeah, I hate how it feels like others try to hide those test somewhere in their videos so you have to watch the whole thing
Thank you so much, you did a great review for surface pro artists!
I love how you've demonstrated these electronic pens like channels that compare inks & pens for analog art. -- As I like to say, even with the technology we're still doing what we did before. Cars are still measured in horsepower. Emails are routed in the same fashion between email servers, and how the postal system works. Electronic pens are "inking"... Great Video!
Super helpful review! Here after trying many pens that I have hated on Surface. Going to give the Raphael or Yobwin a try. Thanks!
just purchase the Raphael pen for my daughters new surface pro she will be receiving on Christmas! Thank you so much for this review! very detailed and hit all the marks!
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!!
Glad it was helpful 😁
Thank you so much for the video just found tablet pro and it has solved a lot of my issues with the surface go 2!
Super helpful reviews! Thanks man 🤝
I wanted to buy a stylus for my convertible laptop. But I didn't find a detailed review of stylus pens. Thank you for your practical review. It helps me choose a right one. Thank you so much 😊 keep it up..
thank you, this definitely makes shopping a lot easier
Thanks, really appreciate the effort you put into this. :)
Thanks this was super helpful!!!
Justice, thank you, thank you, THANK you so much for this. I grew up using Wacom products with their very low IAF and have developed a very light hand as a result... so I haven't been able to get used to the Surface Pen's much higher IAF and heavier pressure curve at all. I'd just about stopped drawing out of sheer frustration.
I ordered a Raphael immediately after seeing this, and it just arrived. The IAF isn't quite perfect, but it and the pressure curve are both *so* much better than the official pen that I am completely blown away. I feel like I can sketch again. Highly recommend for anyone else struggling with getting the Surface Pro to register lighter lines.
Opalinesque do you still recommend it?
i second this question
I too am wondering if you still recommend this pencil (or have found a better one)
@@MultiZABRI is it ok to buy?
Thanks for the video!
i was wondering what is the weight of the yobwin? since it IS something that's important to me
the surface pen it about 20g (REALLY HEAVY), and the Raphael is 14g (according to amazon).
also, how easy to press are the side buttons compared to the surface pen (which is pretty hard in my opinion) in the yobwin and the Raphael?
and lastly - why the yobwin is better for 3d artist and the raphael for the rest?
Very good. Thanks. 👍🏽🤠
I own an Acer Active Pen (came with the Acer Switch 3). Would it work with the MS Surface Pro 4? (not just in terms of ink, I also need the pressure sensitivity to work and accuracy is important).
Thanks for the review and hello from down under!
I bought the Microsoft surface pen for my surface book 2 and I like it in some aspects. The drawing experience has been very good, it doesn't seem overly jittery and overall I'm please with it however... I really dislike the side button, so much in fact that I'm probably going to return it.
I have used Wacom tablets at work for many years and always use the aide buttons, the one (ones?) on the Microsoft stylus are basically useless, they require such a big amount of pressure and are flush with the rest of the pen so I can't use it.
I was going to order the yobwin but realised you no longer recommend it. Any alternatives for a good one with decent usable side buttons?
How did you (voice) call your settings by the way? Was it this Cortana thingy?
I reuploaded this video because the one I uploaded yesterday had a large editing mistake in it. This is the same content with the text overlay fixed.
Great stuff, thanks, I like the style, subscribed :)
Doesn't it seem weird that MS designed and implimented the Surface screen but can't even make their own pen draw straight lines on it like a $40 pen? Something seems very odd.. Perhaps Microsoft could comment on this? Are you in touch with MS to ask them?
Aside from the straight lines, the MS pen low pressure sensitivity response looks awful at 8:30 - Is this usual?
MS really need to respond about that and the straight lines asap and either provide a firmware update or if impossible perhaps offer a discounted exchange for a (hopefully soon to be) fixed 2020 version for Surface owners who have issues with the MS pen.
Other stuff:
Not available from amazon.co.uk, amazon.com US will probably deliver if I pay import, delivery and 20% taxes.. might be a good idea (in which case I'll use your link from amazon.com) but the extra fees to import to UK bring the price close to vanilla surface pen (£66 UK).
It's interesting that there's a much better variety of digital design related products available in US.. sadly this probably reflects the UK population being a bit further behind the times regarding digital art education / culture and the market is slow to adopt new brands accordingly (also economic differences of course).
DO NOT BUY THE TABLETPRO STYLUS SADLY I LOST MY MONEY WITH THIS PRODUCT..THREE MONTHS AGO A BUY AND THEY NEVER SEND TO ME..I SEND AT LEAST 10 EMAILS AND NEVER ANSWERS DO NOT BUY WITH THIS DISHONEST PEOPLE...
Hi, which one would you suggest this pen for a Surface Go 2 too? Or are any other better options? I will use it to take notes and study, maybe some CAD drawing. I just don't want to buy the original since the tablet is not mine, I can keep it for max 3 years....would be nice if the pen works with smartphone or other touch devices too ;)
Hello, Yhanks a lot for the review. Do you know if it works with the ZenBook Pro Duo? Thanks a lot!
How far back in the MS Surface Pro line will the Raphael 5 work? Any Surface Pro? Just some?
best audio. what microphone brand you use?
Thanks!🙃
Hello. Do you know if the Yobwin pen is coming back? The page on Amazon provided by the link says that it’s not currently available.
Thanks for reviewing these pens! Question: You show how tilt is supported by demonstrating it on OneNote. Do any of the pens support tilt in Photoshop CC? Specifically, we have a Surface Pro 6.
Yes tilt support is system wide. If it supports tilt on the system it will everywhere it is used. They are using the Microsoft pen protocol so it should be sending the exact same type of data as the stock pen. So compatibility is the same. Hope that helps 😁
1.) Raphael 5
2. Yobwin (Number 1 for 3d)
3.) Surface Stylus
4.) Wacom Bamboo Ink
5.) Lacoramo
Very nice review thanks, by the way do you recommend a screen protector?
I don’t. I just tested one for the first time on a surface book and it was really nice to touch. But made the surface pen pen nib too grippy. Was really uncomfortable to use. If your stylus has a plastic tip. Then sure. But not if it has the elasticity polymer blend like the standard surface pen or Renaisser stylus do

I couldn't find anyone shipping these internationally so I just ordered a bunch of these from the manufacturer. Great stylus. Can ship internationally, currently doing free shipping worldwide.
Can yoga a940 be used?
Thank you for this video! I’m interested in ordering the Yobwin pen. I want to have the button closest to the tip of the pen mapped to alt, and the other mapped to hover right click. Do you think that would be a possibility via the Tablet Pro Pen Tool?
It’s possible in one way. Not sure which. Fairly confident it’s the opposite though. I’ll try to check soon.
@@TabletPro Thanks for getting back to me Justice! I appreciate it. If you get a chance to test that configuration out, please let me know! I ended up ordering the Yobwin pen last night. It'll be here tomorrow

is the Raphael 520 compatible with the Surface Laptop 3?
can someone explain what is the Bluetooth eraser feature for?
Do you have a comment on the battery life of the raphael 5? Some amazon reviews complain about it.

Hello, i have a question, i hope someone can help.
I have an Acer touchscreen laptop that can also be a tablet (the keyboard is detachable from the monitor itself). I also have the Concepts drawing app. I would like to know if there are types of styluses that would work on my device and which?
Thanks in advance♡
I noticed that you did not test the Adonit Ink. I am in Canada where your top two pens are not available on Amazon and was wondering what your thoughts were with this stylus on the Surface Pro 7? Also, I contacted Adonit to see if the Adonit Ink is compatible with the new Surface Pro 7 and they simply said that they have not yet tested it. Any input on this matter would be great. Thanks for the great videos!
If the Adonit ink is compatible with the Surface Pro 6 or Surface book it will be compatible. I’ve heard of the issues with not having availability internationally with the Raphael 520 stylus. Buying a small order from the manufacturer and am planning on to sell and ship internationally.
.does the type of display matter for these pens /... i use a dell 2 in 1 .. would the pen be compatible with it... how to find it ?
Have u tested hp pen on surface models?
Very informative....However your Yobwin link leads to to nothing...where can I get a Yobwin..I can't find it anywhere (I'm a 3D digital sculptor)
What is that button menu on the left side?
What is that site window?
Finally some good not faked review where artists are saying surface pen is best which is big lie lol. Big props man
Does the Raphael work on dell computers?
This maybe a stupid question do these work on the Samsung Galaxy 360pro laptop
Is the surface stylus compatible with my Laptop that is Asus vivobook flip R518U TOUCH SCREEN 15.6 Full HD 2in1 Touch Laptop, Intel i5-7200U 8GB Ram 1TB HDD Windows 10??
Are they all magnitized like the charger?
what device are you using the pens on?
Can I use surface pen on my hp x360 13- ar0000? thank you
Does it works on hp pavilion x360..?
TabletPro does the Raphael 5 support the tilt function when using it with the Microsoft Surface Pro 4? I know the SP4 is older and does NOT Support tilt with Surface Pen so just curious before buying the R5. Thanks.
Hmmm. Good question. I’m not sure how I can test that. Let me reach out to the manufacturer and see if they know.
Just wanted to update you. I got a reply from the manufacture via Amazon question. The SP4 does NOT support the tilt function of any of the pens. I believe ALL the newer Surface Pro devices support the tilt function of the SP pen and the Raphael 5.
I'm debating between the Yobwin and Rafael 5. Both look very good. I don't do much drawing but i do write a lot, i am a student. I want a smooth pen, i like the plastic feeling. And the most important thing for me is the sensitivity, i would like the pen to write on screen with minimal pressure. Which of those two pens would you recommend for that?
New version of the Raphael 5 just arrived. Definitely my preference as I’ve been having trouble with the Yobwin. The new Raphael is nicer than the last in a few ways. amzn.to/2CPMrgs

Can you please confirm ...
does it work with surface pro 6 ?
It doesn't look like the Yobwin is for sale anymore?
Im very interested on how in the world you found the Raphael 5, there is so little press on it and it appears to be a hidden product. It should have received more publicity if it was as good as shown in the video.
Yes no idea what the name of the product is on lazada
So I get the Raphael 520 after reading your review. However, it won't work on my Surface Pro 4. I got a replacement for the same Raphael 520 afterwards and still won't work. I did charge it for 10 minutes, just in case but the LED appeared white when I first charge it so I don't want to leave it longer than 10 minutes in case it's overcharge. I also try changing the tip and nothing happened. Did I do anything wrong? Did I missed anything?
When you go to use the pen you need to turn it on by pressing the side button. You may already have tried that but let me know.
I bought a Raphael 5 after watching this video. Specifically, the "Baseqi" version linked above (as the Renaisser were out of stock). Judging by the reviews on the Renaisser, the company making it seems to have some quality control issues; as everyone who bought it either gave it 5 stars or 1 stars. Very little inbetween.
My own pen came Dead on Arrival. The seller replaced it promptly, and the replacement does technically work, but I'm not getting anywhere near the quality this video shows. The jitter is horrible. Like, it's way worse than even my Bamboo Ink. (By the way, for anyone dealing with Bamboo Ink jitter, I recently discovered the issue seems to be primarily one of battery voltage. You can actually get surprisingly good lines using Amazon Basic's AAAA's [which are also well priced]).
Anyway, on top of the jitter, the Baseqi Raphael 5 tilt support doesn't seem to work at all for me (I tried it in in One Note, Krita, Whiteboard, and Screen Snip). I'm going to ask for another replacement, and if third time isn't the charm then I'm going to give up.
As a caveat, note that I'm not on a Surface product. I'm using an HP Pavillion x360. This *does* support Microsoft tilt pens, so at the least I expect tilt should work. But with regard to the jitter, maybe the Raphael 5's have been optimized specifically to account for the digitizer resolution in the Surface line or something? Or maybe this pen is just also busted. Who knows.
I just bought a Pavilion x360. Would you recommend me a pen which works good for you?
I bought the raphael 530. The precision is good but i don‘t like the ergonomic aspect/ design of the pen and especially the buttons. If you look at a wacom pen you see that the pen is thicker at the drawing side. Thats important because without this your pen is always slipping down. And the buttons on Wacom pens are not flat so you don‘t loose contact. On my Raphael i always have to look at the pen to see where the buttons are. I would love to see a Raphaele pen with better ergonomic/design.
I totally agree, side buttons need to be more pronounced, and I like the artistic benefits of a tapered end and more bulb like front. Of course not too drastic, but just enough that it is easy to hold and the side buttons are functional and easy to press consistently.
Where do I find the written description with links to buy please? Thank you
For the pen it is tablet-pro.myshopify.com
If it is for something else please let me know what. Thanks Connie
Where can you get the Raphael 5?
amzn.to/2moO3sR
Does the Raphael 5 support the surface pro 7??? Greets from germany🇩🇪🇩🇪
Yes it does
So you recommended the Uogic Keyboard....but why wasn't the Uogic Pen on this list of reviews??
That’s a good question. It’s in my newer reviews. There is a very different pressure curve on the uogic stylus. I’m not a fan. It’s the same general design as the r520 stylus. So it looks the same. Functions differently.
Will raphael pen work on Surface Pro 4?
I really want to get myself a good stylus, would someone please let me know
Thanks!
Yes. Works very well on the Surface Pro 4. The Surface Pro 3 is NOT fully compatible as it doesn’t support tilt or MPP 2.0 (Microsoft Pen Protocol)
After watching the video I brought the Raphael 5 for my surface pro 7. The sensitivity and pressure are great but I have problems with drawing fast quick strokes, the line always start out narrower compares to the rest of the line. even when I put more pressure at the beginning, the stroke is still looking more narrow at the beginning . when I do flicks like for drawing eyelashes, the stroke doesn't look natural because the beginning of the line would be thin and the end is thicker than it should, the stroke seems to be inversed not according to the actual pressure when it begins and end. I don't know what is causing the problem. i tried drawing on Photoshop , Sai, firealpaca, sketchbook... same problem . I'm wondering if this line issue happens with your Raphael pen and tablet? thank you 👍
Len MIk what battery life like?
Len mik wondering if you managed to fix the issue?
for the question 1: no as an artist who just bought the surface for school but also likes to draw I was surprised to see the squiggles, and even your choice pick still has squiggles :(
I have a seizure disorder.. And just broke my surface pen during a seizure... Don't think they just sell replacement eraser/blutooth end. So if I can't find one on like ebay to fix my pen I need a cheaper replacement pen because the Surface Pen is too expensive to buy again.
Is Raphael 5 tip interchangeable with surface pen tip?🤔
Yes it does
What toolbar did you use for the hotkeys there?

Do you know if there's a way to turn off the feature on my stylus that makes it so when I float the pen over any program/app icon/menu/link/etc it doesn't highlight them and in some case even display guide text and the like? It seems to be doing that at 6:54 in your video for example. I basically don't want it acting like some kind of air mouse and would rather it only affect things when I literally touch it on the screen. And I've tried options like hide cursor and turning off use pen as mouse where available, which didn't get rid of this annoying "feature". Any tips here? Or is this literally just a "feature" of touch pens? If so, my God do I hate it.
I'm not sure how to turn that off. But I understand why it might be annoying. As a kinda silly temporary solution you can try holding the stylus a little further away from the screen so it doesn't trigger those things. Maybe that's not helpful. I know when I want something to work a specific way it can be frustrating.
@@TabletPro Unfortunately, it works from about 2 cm away, so it's already not practical to hold it far enough away to not do the other stuff in between the actions I'm actually trying to do. I honestly can't believe someone designed this into apparently all stylus devices and didn't at least include the option to turn it off. Imagine if your real-life pencil started displaying some indicator to you of where it was going to write before you even put it on the paper or indicating corners of pages and popping tips and so on when you simply wanted to scribble something intuitively. . . . It's utterly bonkers and clearly from the minds of robot-like nerds trying to solve problems that never existed in the first place. So frustrating. I think I'm just gonna return my Surface and pen and be done with it.
Can you use surface pen nib replacements with the Raphael 520?
Yes you can. I also started carrying replacement nibs in my store tablet-pro.myshopify.com

Out of your Top 3 - Surface Pen, Raphael, and Yobwin, which would you say is best for both Note-Taking and Hobby Drawing usage?
Surface pen or the r520. The cheaper non Bluetooth Raphael is what I recommend based off price for your needs
I have 20 plus different stylus including two Surface pens and I use the one I’m recommending.
@@TabletPro Thanks, your video and replies were super helpful!
I'm leaning towards the Surface Pen because I've read that R520 has very short battery life and uses microUSB for charging, which I'm not satisfied with.
I'll be using the Surface Pen with an Asus 2-in-1 laptop that just came in with an Asus SA201H Pen (MPP 2.0). Do you think the Surface Pen would work well, or does the drawing/writing quality vary with laptop manufacturer and screen digitizer?
I have the Surface Pro 2 would the Raphael be compatible?
No. The pro 2 uses Wacom. Loved that tablet. Was a great machine.
Does this test also apply to the surface studio laptop range?
Yes it does. I have the studio myself
new surface pro pen seems pretty good in soem other reviews this year, how does it compare to new rafael?
personally, i hated it and my artist friend who uses it did too. the performance is fine as long as the pen isnt broken, but the tip breaks every month almost, and replacing it made the lines wanky. also replacing the tip cost me 20$

how the hell is this absurd amount of jitter acceptable? I feel crazy after updating from a surface pro 2 to a 7, and just finding out about this problem. How is Microsoft incapable of fixing this problem in their own pens?
Would this lens work with microsoft surface 2 pro?
No, the Surface Pro 2 Used Wacom Stylus, amusingly, the S pen from a samsung note WILL work on a Surface pro 1 or 2. The newer surface tablets have a new pen input technology that requires an active stylus to use. For the surface Pro 2 you can get a wacom stylus meant for most wacom drawing pads, and it should work fine. My Wacom Pen and touch intuos drawing tablets stylus worked just fine with my Surface Pro back when I had it. I actually wish the new tablets still used the wacom technology, as I love my wacom stylus. And dont really want to have to buy a new stylus just for my new surface tablet.
@@RedMageGaming You mentioned that samsung note pen would work... Which one? I have samsung note 9 pen. And the wacom pen, can i use wacom pen with2048pressure sensitivity or just 1024 intuos touch pen?
Are the pens compatible with all surface pros?
Mostly. Not the super old ones. The Surface Pro 3 doesn’t support tilt so pens with tilt may be read incorrectly. Also the Surface Pro 2 uses Wacom tech
