The BEST stylus for Digital Artists and Note takers. NEW Raphael 520 two button 4 Microsoft Surface

  • I think the Raphael 520 is the best stylus available for Microsoft pen enabled devices like the Surface Pro 7 or Surface Pro X. The pen uses MPP (Microsoft Pen Protocol) standards so it is compatible with all the same devices as the standard Microsoft Surface Pen and Slim Pen. It's fast, light, rechargeable, has tilt, two buttons, magnetic and has clean low jitter lines.
    There is a Black Friday deal on the stylus right now for the next few days.
    #surfacepen #stylus #best
    Raphael 520 2 button stylus, cleanest lines, magnetic, tilt, rechargeable (I am now personally selling these)

    I am using Adonit Ink for quite a while now and it feels so much better than my SP pen and Bamboo Ink. The pressure curve is great but I feel that my old Wacom Bamboo with a lower pressure sensitivity still does better. I'm curious if this Raphael 520 is really an Adonit Ink killer or not. Have you tried comparing them? THanks for the helpful review Justice!

  • @pingupinguo

    Hi , i just bought it this week but i found an annoying problem on this pen. I often use fast stroke for sketching, but Raphael pen pressure doesn't response normal pressure in the very beginning of every stroke. It seems within around 30ms from the stroke activated, the pressure curve is suppressed in lower response and need time to be gradually recovered in normal pressure reaction. Therefore when I sketching with fast short stroke, the pressure is super low even i push it quite hard. I test in different applications and it still happens, so i think it is related to driver or hardware issue. Is it also happening to you? I feel it is easy to do light to heavy pressure transition but impossible to do it reversely from hard to light with quick drawing stroke.

      If you are into a creative career an iPad is a better option. For science careers, a surface pro is better.
      Now penwise if you pick a bundle for the surface pro, (keyboard and pen) go for it. Otherwise if the price isn't justified, go for this pen and the bluetooth keyboard.

      Hi, I'm glad the pen is working well in general. And there is no setting in windows to enable the eraser in all programs, that sounds like a good idea though. The difficulty is each program has the option to choose what the eraser does. Does the frontmost button on the stylus erase if you hold it down and use the stylus in either of those programs? To test tilt, open OneNote and test with a pencil. Will you let me know how that works for you?

      I have tried the pen with different software.
      Microsoft OneNote software recognizes the two erasers (the side button and the eraser on the tip). But he does not recognize either the pressure or the inclination.
      The only software (which I tested) that also recognizes tilt and pressure is Sketcheable.
      Krita (I had to set it) recognizes the pressure but not the inclination and not even the erasers (unless I have found the option to activate).
      I was not able to activate neither the rubber, nor the inclination, nor the pressure with Gimp.

Just gotta make sure your surface is well ventilated and cooled then the pen would work better. I'm using krita & Photoshop for drawing. Photoshop have better response with 520. For krita,sometime it doesn't detect the pen then you've to click on the brush again in order to use the stylus.

    @johnkon2810 4 года назад +2

    Justice/Tablet Pro... choice of stylus aside, you should do a video on Pen Jitter. The Apple pencil & Wacom are far better (no or almost no jitter) HOWEVER, Surface Pen jitter is greatly dependent on "software."
    Example: if you use Photoshop, there's almost no pen jitter. The same can be said for Rebelle, Clip Studio, I believe Sketchbook Pro (software, not the app) & Sketchable.
    I bring this up because Apple fan boys love talking crap. However, if you're going to do a fair comparison test, the same software should be used and the are some. Besides, it's not my fault a iPad can't run Photoshop (the full version, not the $hit Apple one).

    Hello Justice,
    First of all, thank you for your awesome videos and the work you put into it!
    I saw your review of the Raphael 520 some days ago (sadly, I saw it too late as I already received my Surface Pen and my Surface Go). But I'm still considering buying it anyway.
    However, two details keeps "bugging" me and I can't find the answer :
    Is it possible to disable the tilt feature? (When taking notes in One Note for example). I'm usually writing at a slight angle and it could be a downside for my note-taking.
    Second question is related to the Surface Pen actually. I noticed that when my Surface Pen touches the screen of my Surface Go without applying any pressure with my hand (just the weight of the stylus), it doesnt write. It starts to write only after applying a slight amout of pressure. This cause me to skip some line when writing. (It might be a unit issue but I've seen other people with this problem).
    Does the Raphael 520 have the same behavior?
    Sorry for the long message, I've been trying to find those answers before disturbing you with my questions, but couldn't find any.
    Thanks a lot anyway ! :)

      As for the iaf (initial activation force) you can adjust pressure curves in the Surface app which is what I would try first but yes the surface pen is a little bit more of an off and on kinda pen. I do think the Raphael 520 amzn.to/2rrpCNx has better pressure performance but honestly I’d try the Surface app first as it may not be noticeable for most people.

    I cannot recommend the Raphael for Handwriting, especially in OneNote. The pressure curve is way too light and it needs about a second until the pressure is fully "noticed" as I would interprete it, because independently on how hard I tip on the screen there is always a 1 second delay in pressure recognition which makes it really aweful to write with it. Because when i write letter by letter with leaving the touch the notes are very thin (at least if you don't chose highest pressure sensitivity around 10-12, on Surface) and gets really constantly thick when you don't set it up for a while.
    But that's actually the only thing to complain, it's really worth the money for drawing or instead of a mouse, but it has the wrong pressure sensitivity for writing and taking notes.

    • @TabletPro
      @TabletPro  3 года назад

      They corrected this setting earlier this year. The newer model (with light always on) changes this. Someone else had mentioned this to me earlier this year as well btw. I didn’t notice it “always” did it. Just figured I was writing lighter when I started strokes. But you’re correct.

      It’s not bad to be skeptical. But if you really want to be helpful please ask some questions first, this is actually a great stylus that people will benefit from and your in accurate comment is discouraging people from getting something good that they want or need.
      The pressure is adjusted in the Surface app for all mpp pens. This is a Microsoft certified pen. You can adjust the pen pressure to extreme levels.
