      Thanks so much!!! There are a few different tools and techniques used to add weathering. Adding paint chips with a sponge, dry brushing, airbrushing stains, adding washes to create grease and water stains, etc. I have a video showing the weathering/painting process on the Jazz Inc Rey Speeder. That one turned out pretty good IMO. = ruclips.net/video/4ZZmGMjFaZA/видео.html

    Great review - I'm with you on all the goods and not-so-goods. I got mine a week or so ago and I feel like there could have been some improvements (which I intend to do). I absolutely support small business manufacturing and the Jazz Inc projects are very impressive in their scope.
    - All the hinges - the air flaps and the landing gear bay doors - are pretty janky. I think that they could have used some smooth hinging or ratcheting. This aspect feels pretty home-made and like they are going to break if your move them at the wrong angle. Epoxy is on stand-by. I would love to just have smooth metal hinging for all these doors.
    - The landing gear don't lock into place! How hard would it be to put in magnets? I'm going to drill out the contact points and add in rare earth magnets.
    - That loose deck plate should definitely have a light magnetic hold.
    - The harpoon gun is really sloppy - why not have it ratcheting or at least a snug fit. Going to fix that.
    - The plastic windows are shit plastic. I'll be replacing with heavier clear acrylic panels or maybe even real glass.
    - The interior is very nicely detailed although I'm going to look at replacing the seat covers with fabric upholstery.
    - I got the orange trimmed version and I found that the overpaint was really heavy. The orange is not very visible. I want to do some detail painting but I have no experience so I'll need to practice on something else before I go after this beast.
    The exciting thing about this vehicle is that I don't feel the same resistance to working it over like I do with something like the Hot Toys Delorean. It feels like getting a DIY that's 90% completed, which , despite the cost, feels worthwhile.
    The other thing I'm going to do is use this vehicle as a template to make a cardboard version.

    • @metamorphiccustoms
      @metamorphiccustoms  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much! Completely agree on ALL points! This is why I love Jazz inc models.... because I think of their products as pre-built model kits and not finished toys. For my tastes they're about 85-90% complete. The finishing details to any project are what really make it standout. Its hard to find a better model, at 1/6 scale for this price (or even close). Maybe that will change in the future...
      I'll be using clear PET plastic for the window replacements. And I defintiely need to address the harpoon gun, otherwise its going to fall off. Have fun with the modding process!

    Pretty nice unusually large scale model of this. Only thing that immediately screams out at me is the weathering in the cockpit and the level of grime in the recesses is close to non existent. Which is really important to achieving the lived in universe feel that lucas wanted for pretty much the whole saga. There are some exceptions of course like the rebel blockade runner but a snospeeder? nah that thing would be getting some heavy use in the field. You can see even in operation aircraft in modern millitaries that are being constantly maintained and cleaned have a certain level of grime the vast majority of the time. You could easily sort this with panel liner wash a steady hand and some spirits to remove it of course But i understand any non modellers hesitation to do such a thing to a very expensive model..

  • @uberdogg1
    @uberdogg1 11 месяцев назад +2

    Wow that's an amazing piece, but I don't like the lack of detail for the price point and I think your letting Jazz Inc. off too easy. Hot Toys is guilty of this too. Adding details is fun for those of us who can but those who can't will be stuck with this. I spent a couple of hours pin-lining and adding additional weathering to my Hot Toys Swoop Bike because of the lack of detail it came with and I had fun doing it but not all collectors can or want to do this. I know you will make this piece exceptional, but this paintwork to me looks like it's half way.

    • @metamorphiccustoms
      @metamorphiccustoms  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and excellent points! Its an interesting situation with Jazz Inc. Unlike HT, many of Jazz Inc's products (at least this one and the Rey Speeder) are more "pre-assembled resin model kits" than they are "collectilble toys". Given their lower production runs, pin-lining or additional paint apps are possible but would significantly increase the price point. (It's why I've requested unassembled models kits from them before.)
      If we compare this to a mass-produced HT, the price point is high. But, when comparing it to a resin model kit, the price is low. (An unassembled, unpainted, screen accurate-ish model kit of this size would likely be well over $2k.)
      Still, you're right! I am honestly surprised we haven't seen more collector's mention the paint apps considering most will naturally compare them to HT's.

      Honestly, I've been trying but I'm afraid to break the panel. Is it one large panel that sits under the turbine/tube? or does the panel remove in 2 pieces to either side of the turbine? ...And Luke simply engages the AI piloting system LOL. Apparently the self-pilot system is more advanced in the Snowspeeder compared to a Tesla. :D

      Thanks for watching! And you're right, it could definitely use a little TLC in the paint department. It less about available documentation/ reference as it is about the cost to hand-paint all the required details. As expensive as this is, i think it would be an additional $800 - $1000 just to deliver it with a more acceptable paint detail level. (If you havent seen it, check out my weathering video and let me know what you think of this model after my paint additions.)

    • @metamorphiccustoms
      @metamorphiccustoms  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! Great to hear different perspectives. Yes, after shipping, just under that. For the size, engineering, and small production run, its hard to find a cheaper option at this scale. I think the next available option is the fully painted Craggs 1/6 model for $2400, before shipping. (Probbably closer to $3K all-in.) The Jazz Inc version works for me because its a fun project. I can add the weathering and easily replace the cockpit glass myself. But totally understand wanting to go for the more complete version even if its a higher price point.

      @Collection_Obsession 11 месяцев назад +1

      What is a pin wash?

    • @metamorphiccustoms
      @metamorphiccustoms  11 месяцев назад

      @@Collection_Obsession A “pin wash” is a basic technique where a wash or watered down paint/ink is carefully placed in panel lines and crevices using a very thin brush. You can see this at the 20:35 mark of my last video ruclips.net/video/4aFk2t9NqEA/видео.html .
      (Basically, this is the opposite of a regular “wash”. A “regular wash” is freely applying the watered down paint/ink all over the model’s surface, then removing the excess with paper towels before it’s had a chance to dry. This will leave the remaining paint only in the panel lines. Very effective and much faster, but this sometimes stains the surface of the model if it’s not prepped right.)
