Good morning! A couple of things to keep in mind: one is that this obviously doesn't reflect the opinions of "all" people; this is just a group of a few thousand who happen to follow me on my instagram. There will be biases due to age, demographic, the fact that all of these people obviously follow me and many other youtube "influencers" - so the results are not to be taken as a serious reflection on a perfume's standing. It's just for fun! It also goes to show that perfume is very subjective because a few that landed on the hated list also landed on the loves list. At the end of the day it's just scented water and we should wear whatever we want. I hope you enjoy watching :)
I truly enjoyed these two segments and all your content. I do get what you're saying, I don't take this personally but it was very interesting. Nobody's a Hater. 💛💛💛
As an anwser to you question on Black Opium, for me it's just too sweet. I love the original Opium so I really tried to love Black Opium. You smell ot everywhere which is not great if it actually makes you a bit nauseous 😅
@@chrysopigilazarakou1737 We are not going to go there. Let me reiterate "NO BODY IS A HATER". I thought I was being funny, hindsight, I understand that others wouldn't see my statement as joking. My bad...moving on. God bless.

Absolutely. Art is intended to provoke thought and stir emotion, not all of which will be positive. When a scent provokes both positive and negative reactions, it's memorable. The last thing we want our scents to be is forgettable.
@@srkh8966 exactly!!! It's not about being masterpieces it's the fact it's meant to be worn and sometimes it doesn't suit your skin or even personality.
From a consumer research perspective: the reason you see some of the most popular perfumes in this list is because it’s the perfumes more people know off the top of their head. It all comes down to unaided awareness.
You're absolutely right here. People vote for brands they recognize. What's more these are the fragrances they once had and loved, but are fed up with smelling like a neighbour or a coworker.
There is often also a connection to the person who posts the poll. There was a popular influencer who conducted one of these Instagram polls, and she was seemed so shocked to see the fragrance that she'd developed featured on the list. She acted surprised that such a niche fragrance would be known well enough to rate, but she seemed to forget (or ignore) that the poll was conducted among HER Instagram followers, so of course they knew about her fragrance. I think if you watch several of these videos you will notice that the fragrances listed are most often fragrances that have been talked about (either positively or negatively) on the channel that is associated with the poll.
I only care that I don't wear things that are strong when I will be in close quarters with people who can't walk away. I never wear perfume to the dentist, for example.
Throwing this out there... I'm 45 and I think Chanel Number 5 is awful. So it's not necessarily an age thing. Scents are specific to a person, not necessarily an age group.
So, the moral of this story is, "Wear what YOU like, and don't even worry if certain people don't "get it"! Glad my favorite fragrance is not on this list, though it is different and beautiful, atypical; however, even if it were on this list, I would continue to wear it and love it. Life is short. ;)
@@emilywalsh6471 For some reason, I'm fascinated by the photo-realistic green scents like Diptyque's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau, (though that one can be kind of melancholy) and Bois d'Hadrien by Goutal Paris (formerly Annick Goutal). These transport me to my own little garden, and could be mistaken for the surrounding area (so it's not obvious I'm wearing perfume). At home, oc, I wear different fragrances, bc I like to try new scents and distinguish between home scents and those I would wear outside.
Right.! I dislike half of the ones on this list but I'm glad the perfume community doesn't let each others likes and dislikes dictate what they wear. Just because someone detests it doesn't mean something is wrong with you for liking it and vice versa.
Thierry Mugler Angel.... I remember many many years ago, this was absolutely everywhere and you couldn’t go to a mall without being involuntarily sprayed with it. I didn’t know anyone who didn’t dislike it.
It’s interesting that you didn’t know anyone who disliked it lol. I can’t find anyone, but one friend who, likes Angel. They did change something about it and I don’t love it as much, but the original is amazing TO ME. 😀
I’ve loved Chanel No 5 since I was in junior high. I’ve worn a lot of different perfumes over the years, but Chanel No5 is the only one I’ve emptied and repurchased many times over the past 50 years.
me too. I love it because it isn't harsh. So many modern perfumes start out so chemical and harsh smelling. #5 and most Chanel fragrances start out so smooth on the nose and just continue on being mellow and great smelling
That's interesting because Chanel #5 is the first 100o/o chemical purfume ever formulate. Coco hated the smell so much she sold the formula to a Canadian co so she would never have to smell it again. Give me a natural scent, cost more because natural products cost more than chemicals.
@@toniweston4330 interesting because when Coco was apparently presented with a bunch of fragrance samples to pick out her signature fragrance to coincide with a bit fashion event, she picked the #5 sample, which became Chanel #5. And you won't find any natural scents in any of today's modern perfumes
Seeing Shalimar on this list is disappointing coz it's nothing like all those modern perfumes which smells girly, flowery or sexy. Shalimar is a mature woman's perfume who is comforting and nurturing and I absolutely love it. I love smelling mature and bossy instead of girly or sexy.
Shalimar is my favorite of all time! I even have the bottle tattooed on my arm! I was so sad to see it here! The only thing I can think of is either they haven’t tried the EDP and they judged it off first spray and not the beautiful dry down.
One thing I'd like to know in these polls of liking a fragrance, is what is the average age is in smelling the fragrances? I'm 71 y.o. so perhaps this is generational. I LOVE Shalimar. My husband loves it. Still. My other fragrances I change up with is Chanel #5, Ysatis, Arpege, Sortilege by Le Galion, and Madame Rochas. These are all old school scents and are not the same today, as when they were made back in the day. Don't care for the scents today and real perfume is so ungodly priced, you end up having to choose something else. If I could buy just one and it was made with the same ingredients back when I was younger, it would be Sortilege by Le Galion. The knockoffs of this are horrible.
My most hated scent is Youth Dew by Estee Lauder because despite the name it smells like old lady to me and actually makes me sick to my stomach and gives me a headache
On my older sister, youth dew smells amazing , it’s her signature scent.but on me it stinks 😷 I can wear poison and that’s my signature but my sister can’t haha strange really
Oh I am a BR540 lover hands down. I don't care what others think. 🤣 I buy perfumes because it evokes memories. I associate it with Disneyworld Polynesian trip back in 2016. IT'S the significant memories that brings me this scent sentimental value. 🎉Great post! ❤
I don’t agree with your description of Shalimar. It’s not a citrus fragrance. It’s an oriental. I agree it’s a very sophisticated scent, not for young women who like fruity sweet perfumes.
Patchouli is a hard note for many people to like, but its also what helps perfumes project and last longer! I don't normally like Patchouli, but i don't mind it in certain perfumes when im in the mood for it.
I thought I hated it, but it turns out it matters how it's blended into other scents. I had a stoner friend in high school in the 90's who wore a cheap oil of it and it took me ages to get over that bias.
The YSL Libre line is one of my forever loves. The fact that it made to nr1 on the most disliked perfumes just makes me wear it more proudly haha. Angel by Mugler should have made this list. I found that perfume absolutely detestable, but I understand how it was groundbreaking for its time
@@CARNELIANTURQUOISE you're right, I didn't quite get to that part of the video, somehow I had the idea Libre was last on the list. Oh well, I guess I agree with Angel being nr1 in most disliked then haha. But not Alien. Alien is amazing
Poor La Vie est Belle! I absolutely adore this fragrance and it's one of my most complimented, so it's heartbreaking to know it made this list... I feel like people don't like it because it was so popular
Totally agree!! I love lveb, when my bottle is half empty i always buy a new one as back up..no matter how many perfumes i own and new ones i buy, lveb will always be in my collection, such an uplifting perfume, and the complinents i get even to this day
I think the YSL Opium line only started to smell good to me the day I turned 35.. before then, it made no sense to me and I had zero interest in ever smelling it again.
Yeah I appreciate the smell of it, but I feel like only a few peoples body chemistry smells good with it, I feel like it can be a beautiful scent though
I’ll bet if you smelled Shalimar from say, the 60s, when my mom bought hers then you might (and others) have a different opinion. They don’t even have the same ingredients as over the years they’ve changed the formula. I’m on the hunt for a vintage bottle.
I still love Chanel No. 5 because I grew up to that scent. But now I layer it with something flowery or fruity as a top note. I also love wearing it to bed by itself. 💤
Shalimar is an acquired taste. You have to let it dry all the way down before the magic happens. I get why folks don’t like it. Chanel No5 is also one of those acquired taste perfumes, but I love it in all formulations. Libre makes me nauseous too. I thought it was because when I tried it the first time I was pregnant. I tried it again in the Intense version and it was the same. That line is not for me.
@@sarah1484 I’ve never tried gueralin fragrances but I will now because you gave a Siskel and Ebert two thumbs up! I’ve always wanted to try shalimar. It’s very Jackie Kennedy.
@@TheElizabethEdit Guerlain is amazing. They have a little bit of everything for everybody. The thing with Chanel is that they have a particular DNA that you can smell in all of their fragrances. It turns people off who don’t like it. With Guerlain, it’s easier to find fragrances you like. If you don’t like Shalimar, that DNA is not in the whole line of fragrances.
I really hate LVEB - smells like a cough syrup to me - but love Alien, Libre, Shallimar and Black Opium at the same time. But it doesn't surprise me that there are so many bestsellers on this list. I guess people voted the most on fragrances that are recognisable to many.
Coco Chanel hated Chanel#5 so much she sold the formula to LaRoch in Canada so she never have to smell it again. It's the first fake perfume formula. I hate it. Give me a natural sent. Not one made from chemicals.
@@toniweston4330 Everything in nature is made from chemicals. Natural lavender oil will kill a cat in a horrifying neurotoxic and not instant way. Skunk spray is all natural, synthetic perfume from a good European fragrance house is much safer.
BR 540 is a forever love for me. I have the EDP and the extrait . I hope folks don’t dislike stuff because it’s popular. Doesn’t matter how hyped it is if I love it or hate it , it is what it is. Fragrances just like music takes me places memories etc. I prefer the Black Opium extreme , La via belle I prefer the L’ECLAT. which are both in my collection. I also own Alien however I live in Florida so sometimes it’s just hard to wear. Channel #5 is a hard no along with Black orchid. great video 💕
I'm the same way with music and fragrances and the l'eclat is also my favorite La Vie Est Belle scent. Any of the Twilly perfumes by D'Hermes are pure perfection but very expensive. In love with anything with the pink pepper being the top note or at least one of the top ones. Greatest pink pepper blend I've encountered is combined with jasmine. A body spray from Italy by Eau Des Alpes is extremely incredible. Any scent of theirs was always unique and wonderful but jasmine rose pepper is just flawless. Nearly impossible to find since all this globalism crap is swallowing up many companies you won't find eau des alpes on the web anymore. CVS had it in 2014 and then it disappeared and some online had it then it just vanished but did find it in Italy although it's no longer being produced tragically. Got 6 bottles shipped fedex express since Italy's postal service is apparently worse than ours if that's believable. Many say they never see orders from Italy and because of their dumb shipping method it's expensive. Cheapest is $27 but fedex express is $48. Got it in less than a week and had the extra money so you bet I bought it. Supposedly expired in 2019 but not at all weakened. It has strong memory attachment for me as well but its flawlessness popped even before that happened.
The reason I dislike BR 540 is because it straight up smells like a hospital on me, it had such an unpleasant, chemical, plasticky note that I had to literally wash it off. I am so jealous of those that get the burnt sugar though, that sounds beautiful and I wanted to love it, but it does have a very different reaction depending on your skin-very love it or hate it!
@@Mumoftwins24 I cannot find what smells like a dentist office or hospital in it. It’s funny how I just don’t get that part of it. I wonder if it’s how my nose picks it up or how it wears on me. I cannot get enough of it. Quite literally intoxicating. And I only have the EDP
@@Roxannesretreat question, have you smelled armani code? If so, would you prefer that or l'eclat? I'm trying to decide on which orange blossom scent to get
I LOVE Black Opium and La Vie Est Belle. Honestly I adore both. And La Vie Est Belle reminds me of Flowerbomb. I didn’t see the poll l, but I’d I did i would have put Tom Ford Black Orchid 😞 I’ve tried so hard I like that perfume and I just can’t.
I bought Black Orchid expecting to love it, I didn't, so I put it away. I tried it again recently and I love it! I didn't like the first spray but the dry down is great!
@@CARNELIANTURQUOISE I know fragrances do that to people! Maybe it’s just how it smells to me right now. Maybe it’ll change! Every once in awhile I’ll go back to it in the stores to smell it.
For over 18yrs I have had a feeling that my mother in law didn't like me. When she gave me Chanel N ⁵ for Christmas.. (once before telling her that I found sweet perfume more for "mature" women) it was clear! I use it as a bathroom freshener. My all time favorite scent is Tommy Girl.
The scents I've always liked on me were Chanel No. 19, Chanel Coco, Gucci Rush. Also a Shalimar lover. And here's a discontinued inexpensive scent I miss so much - Loves Fresh Lemon.
I love Angel, when I wear it I always get people telling me what a lovely fragrance I’m wearing! Really hard to get the refills for the refillable bottle.
I laughed through the half of the video. I apparently walk around stinking to the high heavens, haha. I own La Vie Est Belle,, Black Opium, Libre. BR540 edp, Shalimar, Chanel 5. I just emptied my By The Fireplace bottle and most likely will repurchase, as I loved it so much. Thankfully I have velvet orchid instead of black, it's a little bit more wearable and mellow, but it still carries that BO dna. I'm actually wearing it right now which is quite funny.
Angel is one of my favorite perfumes, but only after I’ve been wearing it for at least an hour. The first 45 minutes of dry down are hard to tolerate, but then it glides beautifully for another 12 hours.
I think the thing with Alien and even Alien Goddess is that they smell CRAZY when you first spray them. I first tested them at Sephora and thought they were the worst perfumes I had ever smelled…until I got home. I kept wondering where the wonderful smell in my room was coming from; it was coming from the testers! You really have to give some fragrances a little time.
I like everything about Alien! It's a heavy scent but quite unique for me. Very alluring. Angel, I think, needs the time to evolve its scent on the skin to really show its potential. When I first tried out Angel, it smelled like cigarette ashes to me but after a few minutes it changed to the better - really two of my favourites ♡
Yeah, that's big no for me. I accidentally got some this fragrance on me, while I was trying to spray it on a card and it was horrific all day long. The worse fragrances are always the ones that refuse to fade or wash off. It's truly disgusting to me, not just a case of it not being my taste.
I really enjoy Cloud for bedtime or cozy weekends at home. But I am absolutely nose blind to it within minutes. I can't even smell it on my clothes. I haven't decided if I'm willing to try the intense to see if it's better.
I love Shalimar..I'm sorry. I love all fragrances by Guerlain.. especially vintage and Shalimar drives men crazy. Well, at least on me. I even love Chanel No 5. These are classic fragrances. The new ones barely last. I wish they would bring back Chloe Narcisse. Juicy Couture smells gross too headache floral.🙄 Angel was once loved by everyone, but everyone was wearing it. That's why everyone hates it now. I'd love to try Jimmy Choo..sounds great. Men I've noticed are attracted to Vanilla . One time my ex bought me Chloe Narcisse back in the day. I thought this fragrance was too strong , very sweet..he begged me to wear it. Well, he was right. It was sweet and sexy . When I wear just a spritz of Vanilla by Bodycology everyone was like you smell so good, what are you wearing? So there you go..Vanilla, patchouli, powder..whatever attracts. Here is the thing though to the young ladies that mock the classics , you stick to the modern ones that way we stand out. The Baccarat I smell it outside on every woman on the street here in the city like it's going out of style.
Black Orchid was (about 5 years ago) what I felt like I would smell when I finally die and I am buried…. 👀 Weirdly, I retested it (a few months/weeks ago) and I was astounded.. I don’t know if they reformulated it, my nose matured or a combination of both but I got deliciousss delicious earthy chocolate with Ylang!
I personally think forcing yourself to like a perfume just because other do is a bit toxic. I do believe you have to get to know and grow the fragrance on your skin personally. That habit can be exhausting.
Agree! Someone got upset with me over Chanel 5 but it just doesn’t appeal to me and my skin chemistry. It clogs up my sinus. Fragrances are subjective and personal for each person.
I'm not surprised that some are equally loved and hated. There are contrary people who hate something just because it's popular. Some are just tired of it but there's an element of snobbery for some. Baccarat 540 is nice. The extrait is splendid.
I don't wear perfume often when I do it's Chanel no. 5. My husband likes it & I always get compliments from others. The perfume oil is better than Eau de toilette and will last forever. A little bit goes a long way I think some fragrances don't react well with certain people's body chemistries.
They both have exactly the same effect on me! Older ladies love both of them. I’m a nurse, and I get a lot of older patients who have just doused themselves in either Red Door or Youth Dew. 🤮 I don’t think anyone younger than 70 wears either of these fragrances. That’s probably why they didn’t make the list.
Here's why I dislike Black Opium: On me, it falls flat. A touch too sweet, the coffee note gets lost on me and overall it just smells unfinished. Almost like it's the base for a beautiful fragrance in the process of being created.
11:48 when you say more mature, may you kindly advise the age range for this? i'm 47 this year and i only ever liked no5 in the late 80's when i wanted to feel like a mature woman. now i prefer JoM's Orris and Sandalwood intense cologne over this really ... as you say, 'dated' scent.
I think the most surprising for me was the cloud, and the juicy couture as I feel they are pretty “easy” perfumes to digest. As far as angel, and alien I am not surprised at all. I am one of those people who have never smelled angel, as far as alien I have it but I am just not the biggest fan. I like it but never want to wear it. My daughter on the other hand who is 15 absolutely loves alien. Lol!! ❤️
The best antique Guerlain is not Shalimar but rather, the haunting Vol de Nuit (Night Flight, named over a novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of "The Little Prince.") It came out originally in the 1930s iirc. It was Katharine Hepburn's favorite for many years. I can't even describe it. It's an oriental chypre, spicy with a gorgeous floral heart and fierce galbanum and narcissus top notes. It's very vintage but just so, so mysterious and beautiful, and it lingers for days--the sillage is gentle though, never overpowering. The notes are beautifully defined and the drydown is my favorite part, so warm and cozy with spicy sandalwood and oak moss. I think it deserves a revival, though I know some modern women would not like it as it's not sweet enough. Most perfumes nowadays are almost sickly sweet...though sometimes, I admit I like that, as with La Vie Est Belle. But Vol de Nuit makes me feel like a 1940s movie star from a deep, dark film noir...and who wouldn't like that?
I HATE Chanel #5!!!!! OMG My girlfriend spent the night at my house with that skunk liquid on. The whole family was crying "When is Charlotte's perfume going away???" She was gone 5 days ago!
Giorgio was a nasty one, and I tend to like bold fragrances. A relative of mine spilled a quarter ounce bottle of it in her car. I don't know how she survived the fumes.
I never liked Baccarat that much then I had put it on before bed one night and my pillow had this most gorgeous scent, I bought it soon after and still love it. Same with Dior Addict, I now don’t give away my decants because I revisit them just in case 🧐
Cannot stand Baccarat Rouge. I thought I’d like it as I usually like rose based scents. It smells like rancid BO. The day I tried it, I couldn’t stand to be around myself! I kept wondering why I smelled of pungent BO. And it really lingered.
One of my friends hates Angel and one day we were going out for dinner and i got into the lift with her and her reaction was 'oh you smell lovely '. When i told her it was angel she was really surprised. I guess scent also smells different when you wear it. I love Angel still but now i wear By the Fireplace more. I feel sad that people don't like it
People don't realize that perfumes interact and smell different on everyone. My sister got a very fruity sweet smelling perfume and it smelled great on her but i sprayed it on me and it was awful. I loved the smell of it on her but I couldn't wear it because it didn't smell like that on me. My favorite scents on me are not expensive at all...
I wear By The Fireplace but I layer it with Jazz Club to tone it down , and only use a very little bit ! Love what you love and don’t worry about the rest of the world ! Lol
I always ASSUME that certain perfumes are hated because they are popular. When popular, everywhere you go, someone is wearing it. Some people are heavy handed with the fragrance and it becomes overpowering. Therefore it becomes hated because its scent permeates all air space!
Got a question. Have you noticed since so many people are working from home and find it hard not to wear lounge wear, have they toned down their perfume preferences?
I didn't realize that so many people disliked Alien, like me! I always heard people say it was polarizing but I think all the perfume youtubers I watch love it. How interesting
I only love the initial cotton candy smell of baccarat rouge 540 but the chemical/medicinal dry down smell annoys me and it stays on my clothes even after machine wash.
Hated: Georgio, Rive Gauche, Poison, Angel, Ed Hardy anything, Red , Samsara. Some of the iconic fragrances have changed formulas so much that they're almost not recognizable. I think Chanel 5 is one of them. I would never wear La Vie. but I love it on several friends.
Love black orchid! It just draws me in. Polarizing, very original, and beautifully blended in my opinion. Libre smells beautiful on other people just don't like it on myself at all. Most disliked for me is angel, never had a fragrance repulse me before.
My dentist used to wear Black Orchid and she was heavy handed with it, so I thought I didn’t like it. Then I smelled it myself and really enjoyed so I think the magic is in the quantity.
I love libre YSL , is very unisex maybe is the reason people don’t like , that’s ok every time I used I got tons of compliments, especially from younger people. But I wear for myself and don’t really need to be loved. I’m very surprised any Givenchy made it , maybe because nobody wear? So people don’t know?
I was so SHOCKED when i first smelled Cloud because everyone was saying "it's so sweet and creamy" BUT it smelled so MASCULINE to me. I couldn't believe people really didn't seem to mind the super heavy and loud lavender note. I gave my mother a whiff and she gagged 😥 I wanted to like it but it truly smelled so boyish and musky I couldn't bare it. Same thing with Burberry her for me 😣
Same here! I sprayed it on my wrist once when I was out shopping and forgot about it and later that day was just like “what is that horrible men’s cologne? What is making that smell?!” So on my skin it turned absolutely foul. 😂
i heard so many people talk about burberry for her being lightly sweet and girly etc, i actually bought it after kathleen lights talked about it, but it smelled so masuline and almost menthol? to me , so strange
I love Black Opium! It was the only scent that I could wear when I was pregnant and my nose was so sensitive. I love the vanilla, coffee smell. It is so comforting.
The very first perfume I ever really loved was Gloria Vanderbilt. From that I moved on to Anais Anais. I got compliments daily. But I swear they changed the formula or something. I think it was my 4th bottle and I knew the minute I sprayed it, it wasnt the same. I went back to the perfume counter, they exchanged it for another bottle...same story. I was so disappointed, I cried. Never wore it again and it was the last perfume I truly loved. Since then I've never bought more than 1 bottle of a perfume. Just one and then I move on.
Oh ANAIS!!! Oh that brings back memories of when I was in high school in NYC… I loved it. Do they even make it anymore? I haven’t seen a bottle in forever.
Chanel No. 5 takes me back to my childhood watching my mom getting ready to go out with my dad. It was the last thing she did...spritzing on Chanel No. 5. It was her signature scent and it makes me smile.
There are some perfume wearers that are noseblind regardless of their fragrance choice. To that end, one's fragrance should only be detectable within the wearer's personal space. As a migraine sufferer, most fragrances are a trigger. Twice recently I was not able to enjoy a restaurant meal due to excessive fragrance.
Absolutely love Libre, but you have to spray sparingly as it can choke you out if over sprayed. I don’t like cloud because it turns on me and smells like burnt rubber and Baccarat smells like a bandaid. Have La Vie Est Belle, but I don’t like it because I had a coworker who over sprayed and ruined it for me.
my grandmother used to wear Chanel 5 i didnt like it when younger but i havent smelled it in about 15 years maybe i would like it i also dont like baccarat rouge and most to all tom ford perfumes.
I have never even seen or heard of pink sugar lol. I think the Viva La Juicy are more just people being sick of it than actually disliking the fragrance. I am so sad to see Alien as the #1 disliked, I LOVE it! It's definitely not one I would wear every day though. I am not a fan of Angel. Loved the video and input on different fragrances, I am excited to see your "most loved" video:))
Shocked that Chanel No.5 is on that list:( It's my favourite perfume that's still available (still clinging on to the last drops of my Hartnell "In Love").!
Scent is something very personal so it is understandable that tastes differ. I however do not understand the term 'dated' in the context of perfume. A perfume that i like i just like regardless of the time it was developed. Perfumes from all decades are in my collection. i thought 'Ball a Versailles' was MJ's signature scent? Maybe he had more than one?
I too like to do experiments with scents. A few months ago I bought a old favorite of mine from college, Love Spell from Victoria’s Secret….. I love it still and I’ve been stopped SO MANY times by men asking what I’m wearing to the point it’s almost unbelievable. My mom noticed the last 5 times we were together in public someone either commented I smelled good or ask what perfume I was wearing. I do think a lot of it has to do with our own body chemistry.
Yeah it’s very funny and interesting how people have such different opinions. Shows that you should just wear what you like and take other people their opinions lightly
If you kind of like Pink Sugar but not quite. JUICY COUTURE SUCRE has that sugary cotton candy vibe without the strong burnt sugar notes of Pink Sugar. Sadly, it was a limited edition, but you can still find it on eBay.
I personally dislike Dior addict. I was really hoping I'm gonna love it, it could be my skin chemistry but for the life me I can't understand how people find it sexy. On me it just smells like a pumpkin pie, honestly it's a great candle scent. A perfume? I don't think. Again it could be just my skin.
I’ve noticed the older I get the less I can tolerate a lot of fragrance. I swap in between Chloe roses and Skylar coconut cove. The later being new to the market. I can’t do anything remotely heavy anymore. I get the worst headache and feel sick.
I used to wear a combo of Obsession and Aromatics Elixer. Then they changed the formula and took out the sharpness of the scent. Now I wear a combo of Tobacco and Vanilla, and Opium Extreme. I have always gotten compliments on the first combo and now I’m getting compliments on my new combo. I LOVE these two perfumes!!! ( especially together! )

Absolutely. Art is intended to provoke thought and stir emotion, not all of which will be positive. When a scent provokes both positive and negative reactions, it's memorable. The last thing we want our scents to be is forgettable.
But it’s also sooooo personal-not all perfumes smell the same on everyone
Just like beautiful women.
@@professionaldogtrainer968 you sure you’re not a professional psychologist too? Lol You are so correct about this! Good analysis 🧐
@@professionaldogtrainer968 definitely! The point I was trying to make for sure. ☺️
Absolutely right.
I don't care what people think about the fragrances that I love
Exactly! 💜
Same
I only care that I don't wear things that are strong when I will be in close quarters with people who can't walk away. I never wear perfume to the dentist, for example.
Absolutely my sweet, I don't care either x
Exactly my scent profile is all over the place
Throwing this out there... I'm 45 and I think Chanel Number 5 is awful. So it's not necessarily an age thing. Scents are specific to a person, not necessarily an age group.
It smells very strong of alcohol. I don't get it either. But I am disappointed that Rodriguez for her is on this list as I love it.
By older I think it’s meant 60-70-80 age bracket.
Me too! It stinks!
I find coco mademoiselle awful too! And everyone seems to love it 😅
I agree, I cant seem to appreciate it even if Im in my 40s😊
I remember when YSL Opium came out and I loved the richness and exotic souk vibe.
It came in a cream form that was heaven on earth.
That was my favorite for years.
Exactly!
I was a fan until I was forbidden to wear it by my acting teacher...it gave her migraines.
I wore it for years and then….it gave me migraines.
So, the moral of this story is, "Wear what YOU like, and don't even worry if certain people don't "get it"! Glad my favorite fragrance is not on this list, though it is different and beautiful, atypical; however, even if it were on this list, I would continue to wear it and love it. Life is short. ;)
Yes!!!
What is your favorite fragrance?
What is your favorite? Now I'm curious.
I bought Angel unfortunately because I hated the scent after I brought it home.
@@charmayneelliott2900 Hated Angel. So sweet, like candy.
I have Chanel no 5 because my mother wore it, and it was soft on her, so it reminds me of her. ❤⚘
I’ve loved Chanel No 5 since I was in junior high. I’ve worn a lot of different perfumes over the years, but Chanel No5 is the only one I’ve emptied and repurchased many times over the past 50 years.
Me too!
It smells like 💩
Seeing Shalimar on this list is disappointing coz it's nothing like all those modern perfumes which smells girly, flowery or sexy. Shalimar is a mature woman's perfume who is comforting and nurturing and I absolutely love it. I love smelling mature and bossy instead of girly or sexy.
Yes! Shalimar all day!
Shalimar is my favorite of all time! I even have the bottle tattooed on my arm! I was so sad to see it here! The only thing I can think of is either they haven’t tried the EDP and they judged it off first spray and not the beautiful dry down.
Definitely mature. My deceased grandmother wore it to church every weekend.
I adore Shalimar. I own it in every iteration and a variety of vintages..Shalimar and Mitsouko are my two holy grail fumes…
My choreographer always wore Shalimar and he smelled wonderful.
I’m 64 and I know some of the elements that were in original fragrances, back in the day, are now outlawed. I understand where you’re coming from. 🤗
You are so right....nothing like the older sents,🕊🇺🇲💕77 and still love them
I’m just sorry that Chanel no. 22 is no longer available. It was my all time favorite.
@@ccreel64 You can still buy it but it's now part of "Les exclusifs de Chanel" their high-end perfume collection.
It's definitely age related. I don't like much of what people 30 years younger than me like, I'm 45.
My most hated scent is Youth Dew by Estee Lauder because despite the name it smells like old lady to me and actually makes me sick to my stomach and gives me a headache
Agree! Youth Dew is 'orrible. My Mum loved it. Even though I loved her, no Youth Dew for me.
On my older sister, youth dew smells amazing , it’s her signature scent.but on me it stinks 😷 I can wear poison and that’s my signature but my sister can’t haha strange really
I am with you guys 100 per cent
@@salldarling Body chemistry is amazing
The bath oil in Youth Dew is amazing. Even added directly onto the pulse points, it’s glorious!
The original Viva La Juicy is still my favorite perfume. It's wonderful and iconic and I'll always have it in my collection.
Me too! I'm trying to get my hands on the Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Sucre Eau De Parfum, but it's so expensive! 😫
I’m 64 and I would call Shalimar a floral oriental fragrance. I think ‘oriental’ is now considered a bad word, i.e. not politically correct.
I don't like shalimar, it's very strong. I love chanel 5
@@lorrainegreen6782 Good than I will continue to call it oriental, while watching The Oriental Express! i.e.
Amen! This YTuber is not a perfumer & in the least could use industry wide terms for description.
Love Shalimar, but it has no staying power on me:-(
Patchouli is a hard note for many people to like, but its also what helps perfumes project and last longer! I don't normally like Patchouli, but i don't mind it in certain perfumes when im in the mood for it.
I hate also perfume that has a heavy patchouli scent, it is headache inducing to me...that is why i never like Angel
I found that perfume absolutely detestable, but I understand how it was groundbreaking for its time
Hell, yeah! Libre is awesome. It makes want to bathe in it now. 😂😂
ok Karen
I wanted to love libre but It smells so dusty while wearing 😣
Angel did make this list!
@@CARNELIANTURQUOISE you're right, I didn't quite get to that part of the video, somehow I had the idea Libre was last on the list. Oh well, I guess I agree with Angel being nr1 in most disliked then haha. But not Alien. Alien is amazing
I love black opium. I loved the neon one too! And I love viva la juicy Perfumes too, especially gold couture, it's just so caramely!

Totally agree!! I love lveb, when my bottle is half empty i always buy a new one as back up..no matter how many perfumes i own and new ones i buy, lveb will always be in my collection, such an uplifting perfume, and the complinents i get even to this day
Its a forever love to me!
A lot of people find it generic, but I think it’s universally great. It also pairs well with other fragrances due to its vanilla notes and sweetness.
I agree it is a beautiful refined ,regal, elegant fragrance that most cannot appreciate in their younger years lol
I’ll bet if you smelled Shalimar from say, the 60s, when my mom bought hers then you might (and others) have a different opinion.
They don’t even have the same ingredients as over the years they’ve changed the formula.
I’m on the hunt for a vintage bottle.
Maybe the Vermont Country Store catalog?
@@katiewest7908 They sell fresh bottles, not vintage. You have to get vintage bottles from eBay.
I hate libre
I HATE chanel 5 so much! 😂😂
@@Theelizabethedit8 I can see why. For some odd reason I love their fragrances. Guerlain is another fave.
I have the same issue with YSL Libre. It makes my stomach turn when I wear it.
I really hate LVEB - smells like a cough syrup to me - but love Alien, Libre, Shallimar and Black Opium at the same time. But it doesn't surprise me that there are so many bestsellers on this list. I guess people voted the most on fragrances that are recognisable to many.

I can't imagine my collection without Chanel 5, love it so much!
I love it as well. It was my mom's favorite perfume and, since her passing in 2001, whenever I wear Chanel #5 it's like getting a big hug from mom.
@@toniweston4330 Not so. Coco chose it from many experimental scents when she was with Chanel.
@@Mumoftwins24 understandable but it's heaven on my skin. That's fragrance for you. Very subjective 💕

You and me girl. My all time favorite. There is something about that perfume to me that I adore.
La Vie Est Belle and Marc Jacobs Daisy both give me a migraine. When I smell either of them on the commuter train in the morning, I'm 😑
Literally THE SAME experience for me! Alien is my go-to and I now only wear Angel Nova for the compliments.
I love Alien, and Alien Goddess!
I love them
Yeah, that's big no for me. I accidentally got some this fragrance on me, while I was trying to spray it on a card and it was horrific all day long. The worse fragrances are always the ones that refuse to fade or wash off. It's truly disgusting to me, not just a case of it not being my taste.
--- I don't get By the Fireplace 😷....why would anyone pay to smell like you've been barbecuing all day???
Love my Black Orchid......always get compliments on it ...to each their own i guess
I’m a mature woman and I Loath Chanel no5 , it smells horrible on me,ended up selling it on EBay
I’m surprised Flower Bomb was not mention because it has similarities to the other sweets that was mentioned. Good video 👍🏾
I adore flower mob!
Most of those perfumes smell horrible in hot humid weather. To me the worst is Good Girl. It gives me bad headaches.
I personally think forcing yourself to like a perfume just because other do is a bit toxic. I do believe you have to get to know and grow the fragrance on your skin personally. That habit can be exhausting.
Yes that’s very true.
I agree 💯!!
A little bit goes a long way
I think some fragrances don't react well with certain people's body chemistries.
Perfume oils or even creams are the way to go.
Est de Lauder Youth Dew and Red Door both make me sick to my stomach and gives me instant migraine headaches. Awful!
They both have exactly the same effect on me! Older ladies love both of them. I’m a nurse, and I get a lot of older patients who have just doused themselves in either Red Door or Youth Dew. 🤮
I don’t think anyone younger than 70 wears either of these fragrances.
I’m new here and (ahem) 67. I have an extensive collection of vintage scents. I’ve tried for 40 years to like anything by Chanel but I just don’t.
Lol!! ❤️
I hate Cloud lol
I bought Angel years ago because of the hype and I HATED IT. Ended up selling it.
Skunk liquid!!! LOL 😂
😂😂😂😂 you made me laugh so hard. I definitely agree with you, it stinks to me!
For those who made it through the 1980’s strong scents there are to many to mention. Poison, Giorgio, Obsession, Paloma, Opiom…….
OMG!!!! That Giorgio perfume was awful! I totally forgot about that one! 😃
I love Dior addict too.
Cannot stand Baccarat Rouge. I thought I’d like it as I usually like rose based scents. It smells like rancid BO.
The day I tried it, I couldn’t stand to be around myself! I kept wondering why I smelled of pungent BO. And it really lingered.
If La Vie est Belle wasn't so popular it wouldn't be on this list. I happen to like it 😁
One of my friends hates Angel and one day we were going out for dinner and i got into the lift with her and her reaction was 'oh you smell lovely '.
It's wonderful because it will adjust to your body, wear what makes you happy. A

I smelt Angel at the store today and nearly gagged 🤢🤢 It didn’t smell sweet to me
Just something about it was so offputting
I always ASSUME that certain perfumes are hated because they are popular. When popular, everywhere you go, someone is wearing it. Some people are heavy handed with the fragrance and it becomes overpowering. Therefore it becomes hated because its scent permeates all air space!
Got a question. Have you noticed since so many people are working from home and find it hard not to wear lounge wear, have they toned down their perfume preferences?
I didn't realize that so many people disliked Alien, like me! I always heard people say it was polarizing but I think all the perfume youtubers I watch love it. How interesting
Anything that smell like Gardenia!🤢
I only love the initial cotton candy smell of baccarat rouge 540 but the chemical/medicinal dry down smell annoys me and it stays on my clothes even after machine wash.
I go through 2 bottles of gold couture a year and I have so many perfumes. It's just a crowd pleaser in the work place
I agree so much with you about the viva la Juicy brand and that the gold one is the only exception. It's my favorite!
Hated: Georgio, Rive Gauche, Poison, Angel, Ed Hardy anything, Red , Samsara. Some of the iconic fragrances have changed formulas so much that
they're almost not recognizable. I think Chanel 5 is one of them. I would never wear La Vie. but I love it on several friends.
Also, Estee Lauder, White Linen
I feel like " perfumetiktok " tells people to hate these fragrances. Especially black opium
i love your videos so much i feel so much calmer when i watch them 😭
I was so SHOCKED when i first smelled Cloud because everyone was saying "it's so sweet and creamy" BUT it smelled so MASCULINE to me. I couldn't believe people really didn't seem to mind the super heavy and loud lavender note. I gave my mother a whiff and she gagged 😥 I wanted to like it but it truly smelled so boyish and musky I couldn't bare it. Same thing with Burberry her for me 😣
I used to love but Cloud but now find it too masculine. It reminds me of a Lynx scent
Ugh! I know so many people love lavender but it's just not that great, it smells clean I guess but not pretty.
I really like spicy musky scents so I'm wondering..
I liked that fragrance, too. I also like the idea that you love a fragrance for one bottle only. Kinda cool…
There's a very good chance it's been changed.
Oh ANAIS!!! Oh that brings back memories of when I was in high school in NYC… I loved it. Do they even make it anymore? I haven’t seen a bottle in forever.
@@SookiRose TJMaxx sells it sometimes. They say it’s been reformulated so it doesn’t smell the same. No tester though so who knows for sure. 🤷♀️
Anais Anais was my signature scent all through the 80s and 90s but I think it has changed too. Still good on me, but not as good.
Oh dear! I wear By the Fireplace. LOL. I also love Chanel No. 5 (it reminds me of my mom).
Love Prada Iris it's smells warm, gentle and slightly talcum powdery.
To me, pink sugar smells so cheap. Something meant for a teenager or younger woman.
All I get is alcohol with pink sugar
@@Crissy9112 alcohol and artificial sugar!!
I completely agree!
Basically all of those are mentioned in every favorites video. I‘m confused.
It smells like a pine tree to me. All I get is green no vanilla. I don’t get the hype either.
I’ve noticed the older I get the less I can tolerate a lot of fragrance. I swap in between Chloe roses and Skylar coconut cove. The later being new to the market. I can’t do anything remotely heavy anymore. I get the worst headache and feel sick.
La Vie Est Belle is one of the perfumes closest to my favorite perfume which is Lola by Marc Jacobs which was discontinued which I’m salty about.
Lola gave me so many compliments.
( especially together! )
I love the smell of obsession by Calvin Klein I do understand why some people dont like it, its not for everyone
Pink Sugar smells cheap & fake. Couldn’t stand it and threw it away. It’s good for a 12 year old.
Same lol
Harsh but true.
I think that Angel smells like Carmex. So many of my favorites on here :/ I'm wearing Black Orchid right now ♥
Juicy is such a nostalgic scent. It was one of my first perfumes. 😭
