      OMg did we just have a parallel universe same life event?!?
      I recently ordered the Amouage Blossom, Xerjoff Italica and LDBS together.
      And had the exact SAME response for the very SAME reasons! 😰😰😱😱
      I had the same feeling as ‘I just don’t get why people love this’ and also on paper the notes looked like something up my alley.
      I’m usually a huge gourmand fan but Italica and LDBS just didn’t do it for me. I find both cloying. Instead I prefer Princess Kilian.
      At least now I’m confident to sample anything you’re recommending because our taste is very much similar this means. 😉 Cool video. 👍🏽

      I love Chanel 5. Overpriced but not overhyped. I don’t enjoy Mademoiselle. The bitter sharp slightly off orange. I love the smell of most Chanel scents though. I think jo Malone scents are overhyped. TF scents overpriced. He has a few greats including Lost Cherry. Soleil Blanc. Mandarino D Amalfi smells amazing but doesn’t last. Longevity poor in blue range for that price. I knew La vie e Belle would be there. It’s a nice scent, can be cloying. Flowerbomb patchouli bomb seems overated.cloying. Baccarat Rouge I find interesting, it’s nice but not beautiful. Overpriced. Overhyped for sure. Havent tried Black Opium.

    • @elissacaddy2216
      @elissacaddy2216 2 года назад

      I find Delina a bit cloying. A bit rich. It’s nicer than Rose Prick though. Baccarat Rouge overpriced. Overhyped but I really Enjoy a dupe of it called “Opal Drip”. It’s a more affordable aquatic version of it. Less creamy but if baccarat doesn’t smell good on their skin Opal drip might.

      Yes, Lisa Davidson I get what you are saying about by the Fireplace. When I got the sample of the fragrance I did not like it. However that is a fragrance you have to wear in extreme cold weather. I went skiing in Feb., and it smells amazing Nicole is right if you pair by the fireplace with a vanilla fragrance or body spray it will smell awesome. If you want a dupe of by the fireplace. Look for Ameer Al Oudh Intense Oudh, (it must say intense oudh) by lataffa. It has more of the vanilla note instead of the tobacco (smoke). That what I love about the perfume. Try wearing your by the fireplace in wintertime it might change your mind. I hope this helps…

    You’re making such an excellent point - it happens so often that, upon smelling a hyped-up fragrance, I think, what is wrong with me? Is my olfactory palate that underdeveloped? Am I missing something here? Admittedly, two such fragrances are in fact Delina and Baccarat Rouge. It’s not that I hate them, they just don’t do a thing for me, no matter how often I try them.
    You really hit the nail on the head: fragrance is such an individual experience. That’s what makes the world of perfumes so fascinating - never a dull moment.
    Thank you for your lovely videos, and especially for pointing me towards what has since become my I-can-hear-the-angels-sing fragrance: Roja Elixir. I wouldn’t have found it without you! 😊

    Thank you Erin for the great video. I think a portion of the people who responded to your question were responding more to the "overrated" portion rather than the "overhyped" portion. A perfume such as Chanel No. 5 doesn't have to be "hyped" in the way a new fragrance from Xerjoff or Parfums De Marly is hyped by RUclips influencers. However, by virtue of the fact that it is a legendary scent, it is put up on a pedestal that a lot of young people do not think it deserves. I remember once that Katie Puckrik mentioned that it was one of her mother's favorite fragrances, but that she considered it to almost be "from a different culture" which is why she said she preferred the Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. Also, I agree with your own list of overhyped fragrances. In particular I wanted to say that with respect to Armani's Rouge Malachite, the best part of it is two hours after you apply it. The opening is way too green for my liking. A fragrance that I prefer in its place is D&G The Only One Intense. It has the same creamy white floral/vanilla vibe without the high-pitch opening.

    Yep, Baccarat was my vote for most overrated. It was an expensive blind buy mistake for me. I don’t think the scent is bad, but it’s too strong for my tastes. I regret it. I do like Love Don’t Be Shy, but understand why it’s not for everyone. Thanks for the fun video! 💕

      I feel your pain Tiffany. I "chased" and over purchased fragrance about fifteen years ago. And that was when there were fewer on the market than there are today. "Exclusives" were just getting going. I stopped and used everything up. I now only keep two or three fragrances on my table top at one time. Seasonal choices, one light, one a bit more and a night time scent, at most. And typically, I chose ones that can be mixed. I use them up over the fall/winter months or spring/summer months. Lastly, I stick with perfumers only. Meaning, I do not purchase fragrance from fashion, et al designers.I stick with Guerlain (French) and Penhalgions (British). Lastly, just a quote I want to share: during the early days of the financial crisis (~2008/2009) Dr. Phil actually made the suggestion to people "Stop looking for or chasing everything new."

    Very interesting the way you described what's happened to BR540 - so accurate! The cat is out of the bag and the club is getting too overcrowded. It is so hyped up! I think it smells gorgeous on so many people but sadly I am not one of them. I remember your first review of 540 when it first aired! And now it is falling prey to Flowerbomb Syndrome as you call it. I still to this day love Flowerbomb and Coco Mademoiselle! I'm also a diehard Soleil Blanc, Metallique, and Lost Cherry fan! Always in my rotation. Great video, Erin!! ❤️

Haha with this video you’d point out to not get caught up with the hyped up perfumes that we’d want to buy to be in the “I’m crowd” and yet disregard the price tag (baclarat rouge 540/ Armani preve line) to be able to say you own it. And stay true to yourself. Also with your low buy/ declutter videos to have an over look of what you actually use and what money was spent and not utilized. Love your channel so much!!!

    Hi Erin ! I love this kind of videos because it's always fun to see what's working for some people and what is not. Don't worry, it's normal to have different opinions on fragrances. Just because we all have different tastes and our skin chemistry is also different.
    My mother loves La vie est belle. It works pretty well on her but on my skin it's just a sweet mess. Same thing for Black opium.
    Juliette has a gun fragrances smell too synthetic for my taste. I recommend you to try Couleur vanille by l'Artisan parfumeur or Ça boum by Teo Cabanel if you're looking for a summer salty vanilla 😉

  • @juliana_imholz
    @juliana_imholz 2 года назад +2

    Very cool video! 👍🏼
    I totally agree with Baccarat Rouge 540 as being the most hyped up fragrance of all time, because when I bought the 200ml bottle and sprayed it, my boyfriend sad that it smelled like an old wealthy man and that it was the most unsuitable fragrance for me ever.
    My second most hyped fragrance would also be Italica. I blind bought it and when I tested it at home, I almost had to gag and all I wanted was to take a shower immediately. And with What about Pop and Vanilla Vibes it was the exact same case. I couldn’t test them in the store before buying because of the pandemic and unfortunately they weren’t what I had expected either. All those three perfumes sounded extremely delicious when I read about their composition but they all turned out to have some strange off-putting notes. 🙅🏻‍♀️
    I don't want to be the one who is always against the mainstream on principle, but I really had to learn the hard way that I need to literally follow my own nose and not always run out to buy the newest cool fragrance in town. Of course there are perfumes like for instance Delina and Lost Cherry that really deserve their place on the podium as one of the most unique and great smelling scents from the last few years. But in general we as customers have to be very careful and really test them in-depth before buying (specially the more expensive ones) because as in fashion, food or music it is also legitimate to have a different taste in fragrances because we are all individuals. And therefore, it is absolutely normal to love underrated parfumes like Black Opium Illicit Green or Idôle L'intense even though they are not popular.
    Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭❤️

    I’m so happy you mentioned Bacarrat rouge 540 but I love it and I agree! Once you get swooned! You start to think, I may like it enough but then you realize you don’t wear it as much. I think we accept things but don’t truly integrate them in our lives. But I agree with dupes 100%. Al Haramain Amber Oud Rouge. DUPE. I think it’s the best clone there is, someone asked if I wore baccarat so I think Al Haramain is in the league when it comes to quality🙌🏻😘

    @dreicher 2 года назад +2

    I love it Erin! Eloquently put. It's ok to agree to disagree about something. Diversity is interesting. Especially when it comes to fragrance due to our individual skin chemistry. For example, Delina turns very very sharp (not in a good way) when on my skin. I was using it as air freshener before finally giving it to my sister who smells great with it. MFK Rouge 540 opens beautifully, but dries down to horrible rubber band smell on my skin. Jo Malone has many beautiful fragrances but there are also some that I absolutely cannot stand, even in the bottle. There is one entire brand that I surprised me. It's The Harmonist. What makes it special, in my opinion, They are very well blended. There is not one single offensive one in the bunch (both the masculine white bottles and the feminine black bottles). I wouldn't want to wear all of them as masculine leaning fragrances are not my personal preference. Yes I have about 5 definite loves in the brand (Moon Glory and Magnetic Woods are two of my most worn). But if I was stuck in a taxi for hours with someone with my least favorite from the brand, it definitely wouldn't be offensive. This to me, is what makes this brand under-hyped. The trick with fragrance is to learn what scents work with your body chemistry. For example, cedar tends to take center stage on me. A floral scent with cedar in the base notes will only smell like a hamster cage on me. Sandalwood is another scent which I like but it doesn't work for my skin. It quickly overtakes all the other notes and turns into a sharp horrid soapy smell. And I love clean soap scents. Crazy. My favorite fragrance ever is Creed White Flowers (pure aquatic spring) followed by Memo Paris Ilha Do Mel (tropical spring).

    Hi Erin, Great topic! I'm not surprised by the fragrances people chose, especially Flower Bomb, La vie est belle, and Black Opium - they have been well advertised, so I think they do sell well with name recognition, and honestly, I think they are all nice, but it seems like 'everyone' has had them so they have become very boring. I think Jo Malone is not worth it at all, none of the fragrances I've tried last more than an hour on me. I love Baccarat Rouge 540 (both versions), but if I wear it more than 2 days in a row, I can't smell it on me, but other people do. I get so many compliments when I wear it, and the funny thing is, no one ever recognizes the name or knows of the perfume! It's so weird, I live in central NJ, by the ocean. It's a very well populated area, and I would have thought a lot more people would know about BR540. I have the same problem with Love, don't be shy. It fell short for me (I guess that's the problem when a fragrance gets so hyped up - sometimes the expectations are too high). Thanks for the fun video! Take care, Ginny 😘😘😘

    I agree with everything EXCEPT Chanel no 5. It has such a history that can never be hyped, its legacy lasted over 100 years and this tells you everything. Is my favourite fragrance ever and I'm just 26. Everything else is on point, especially Delina, is a weak basic rose fragrance, not lasting and not worth the money. Also, Libre is very weak but Libre Absolute is gorgeous.

    Rose Prick I tried to love it but I barely like it. I love Lost Cherry though. Love Delina. I wanted to love 540 but I don't, but it's just a neutral like. Sold YSL intense...a big no. But in the end scents are subjective. So one should never get upset over the dislike of a popular fragrance. It is what it is... oh great video concept. I really enjoy your content and positive vibes.

    There’s definitely a sweet spot with fragrances when they’re just gaining popularity but before they become “overcrowded” as you aptly put it. I don’t understand how Chanel N°5 made an overhyped list either, that perfume (whether you like it or not) transcends trends or hype.

    I agree with many in this list, but Italica, is one of my All time favorite gourmand fragrances I have ever put my nose on. There is a RUclipsr named simply Ayesha, when she first smelled italica she threw her head back, that how I feel about that fragrance. I have heard many people though that get the 30 ml say they don’t like it, I have to wonder if it’s the 30ml, maybe not but it’s what I have observed, but it may be it’s just polarizing. I think it’s very very gourmand so that might throw some people! Fragrance is so subjective, these videos are always so interesting to me. Great vid!!💕

    I don't like Delina. I love 540, but I am allergic to it. I am soo glad Sol de Janeiro has the new scent that smells like it and I am not allergic to it! Cheirosa 68!!! Yay. Chanel #5 is classic, but yes seems a little dated but no disrespect because it is a classic. I actually love love the hand soap and I have it in my bathroom. TF Lost Cherry is probably only one of two scent I like from the brand. Most of the brand is too strong for my tastes. Yes, fragrance is very personal and does evoke memories along with it. :) Ps. I love Flower bomb.

    Rouge Malachite to me is very jasmine, and reminds me of a sexy night out when the air is sultry and warm. I got a sample and I didn’t like it at first. I found it harsh and sort of woody or something but the next time and since then I really do like it but I wouldn’t wear it as an every day fragrance. It does seem like a summer evening sort of fragrance to me. We are all very different and I think it has to do with our sense of smell but also the way the fragrance interacts with our skin chemistry which includes the foods that we eat because our natural scent mixes with the fragrance of course.

    I agree with most of the picks, though I do like some of the fragrances on both lists. I have to say, Donna Born in Roma is very popular in the “designer fragrance community”. Where I live, you can’t buy BR540 very easily, so it’s not too overdone. 🙌🏻 And I always, always get compliments whenever I wear it. Also, I prefer Love Extreme to the original LDBS. i find it much more wearable.

    I love everything you said about Tom Ford being supposedly "overhyped'. It's certainly not overrated but perhaps pricey to the average person.
    However, their hype has been earned by their exquisite designs of perfumes. It's certainly their expertise and often the people.. assuming they're overrated as a brand is certainly due to being unable to afford it personally while still hearing about their wonder. The praise that they do deserve.

    Tom Ford on the other hand is definitely overrated in my opinion. I went to a TF counter not too long ago and smelled all of them and was disappointed. Plus a lot of people say the longevity on TF fragrances is poor.

    Hype is a tricky thing for brands. You want your product to be talked about, you want it to be loved and hyped up. But sometimes it gets to a point that a product gets so much hype that it works against it. Not only do people get tired of the rave, but also expectations are rising to extreme levels. Once at that point, it's inevetable that people will be disappointed.

    Byredo is popular among cultures that usually disapprove of strong perfumes of any form (as in leaving a scent trail or being noticeably scented) so it makes sense you had a hard time smelling it. To me the DNA they share turns kind of into cleaning supplies, but I might revisit someday.

    I hate Mon Paris. I bought it after trying it at the store so it wasn’t even a blind buy, but somehow whenever I wore that fragrance I smelled really bad (to me). Somehow it projected differently on me than on the tester. So many people saying it’s sweet but I didn’t detect a hint of sweetness! So weird 🙂 So Mon Paris by YSL is a big miss. For me.
    However I LOVE Black Opium!! It’s popular for a reason. This fragrance is beautiful, feminine, sweet and just lovely! 💕
    I also dislike Hypnotic Poison that everybody seems to love. It’s too almondy for me, too gourmand. However, I love Poison Girl! That one is so good! 😍
    Another popular I kind of like on some days but hate on others, is Cloud by Ariana Grande. Sometimes I feel like it’s too synthetic - same as Pink Sugar. Others complimented me before when I was wearing those two but personally, they’re not my favorite.
    Perfumes are fun and are such an interesting thing we have invented. I love the bottles and the stories behind the fragrances and the whole process of creating a perfume is really interesting to me.
    Love your channel! 🙂🥰💕

    I was also disappointed by "vanilla vibes". To me it's cloying. If you're nevertheless interested in beachy salty vanillas, "Eau sucrée-salée (Vanille + Fleur de Sel)" by Sephora is a lighter airier/less cloying and much more affordable dupe... although I admit Idon't wear it much. But that's just me struggling with vanilla . For that summery beachy vibe I much prefer a salty coconut with white flowers : "Arizona Bloom" by Floral Street. I might smell "rouge malachite" soon, I expect so much from it I might also be disappointed like you ... we'll see ;). I agree so much with what you say about knowing one's own preference :) !

    I received a lovely bottle of Chanel No.5 from a boyfriend as a gift. I appreciated the thought, but never loved it. I wore it, but never re-purchased it for myself. Okay, over hyped on the low end in price scents: Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 62. People claim this smells like a vacation in a bottle. The best thing they've ever smelled, etc. I was extremely disappointed in the scent and honestly thought it smelled like maybe a bug spray. So, maybe a vacation in Alaska where the mosquitoes are thick. :-) I bought a sample box of all of Juliette's Got a Gun and did not like any of them.

I wouldn’t even buy a sample because it’s just so blah lol. I only like Noir from TF and they discontinued it. I just discovered Donna Born in Roma because I didn’t want to buy into the hype. But I smelled it on a woman that walked past me and I had to have it. BR 540….I tried to force myself to like it and it’s just a no for me lol. I have discovered Electimuss Trajan, and it gives BR 540 vibes but so much better. A hyped up one that I would add to list is Nishane Ani. I couldn’t scrub it off fast enough. It’s my biggest regret in my collection. I keep trying to love it, hoping it will grow on me or that I’ll at least start getting compliments lol. I should probably just resell it and recoupe some of my money. As a brand I strongly dislike House of Sillage. I adore the packaging but it’s not worth the old lady scent inside. I can’t believe these are so popular other than for the packaging. I resold my cupcake within a few days of getting it, it was so bad. I think you were going in the right direction with saying that people just have different preferences. I don't like florals and I know I don't like them, so I don't bother stating my dislike for specific floral scents. They aren't bad, they just aren't my preference. Just like how I don't like super spicy food, doesn't make spicy food bad :)

    I feel the same about the libre . I have it not the intense though I feel like it doesn’t last . The dry down is good but it doesn’t last

    Great video. I also hate Tom Ford....I really haven't smelled any that come close to blowing me away. What did it for me was watching one of his interviews and really just did not like him. Also don't understand the hype about good girl. Chanel #5 is a complete queen. She will always be loved.

    Last comment, I got love don't be shy extreme when it was first released as a limited edition and that scent is so bomb omg. To me its along the same lines as Love Tuberose by Amouage with that sweetness.
