    After looking at a forgotten chapter of the Addams Family earlier this month, I decided to take a look back at all the failed attempts to reboot The Munsters - mainly focusing on the forgotten 1995 TV movie "Here Come the Munsters".

      Mockingbird Lane was the worst, Herman wasn't even a Frankenstein monster. How do you do a Munster's show without Herman as a Frankenstein monster? Herman is literally the face of the show, without him as the Frankenstein monster, it isn't the Munster's! I am guessing it was probably to save a few dollars and time, by not having Jerry put on the make up, which takes quite a bit of time, but again it isn't the Munster's!

    Grandpa Al Lewis forever earned my respect when Howard Stern had him on during a Live event, where Al fearlessly stepped to the mic and shouted "FUCK THE FCC!"
    Even Howard Stern himself got spooked enough to panic and try to shut Al down, but it was too late. Al was grinning the whole time.

      Al lived in the same building as my ex wife's parents. It was a non smoking lobby and elevator, except for him. first, who wants reboots at all? second, it wasn't a reboot, it was an entirely different show with the same character names. it is a network being too lazy to create an audience for their show so they try to use an already known commodity.

    • @JENDALL714

      Herman as a normal looking human, isn't the Munster's. It's like watching the Titanic movie where it misses the ice berg and all we see for two hours is the Love Boat and they pull into NY harbor happy and fulfilled!

    • @AndersLankford
      @AndersLankford 3 года назад +2

      Agreed. Mockingbird Lane had some untapped potential. It had some bumps to work through and I really wish they had made Herman bigger, stronger, and less intelligent (he seemed to be the only one that they decided to veer from the original character concepts), but I quite liked how they interpreted the rest of them. They took the Munsters and turned up the gllows humor and eliminated the cartoonish, screwball comedy and most of the slapstick. It worked for me. Then again, I always thought the original Munsters needed a little more horror comedy and a lot less "Casper the Friendly Ghost"; maybe I was never the right audience for The Munsters anyway.

    • @tenshiigarashi4063
      @tenshiigarashi4063 2 года назад +2

      It missed the point of the Munsters entirely. The Munsters is about a group of misfits that despite looking like stereotypical movie monsters they are actually harmless for the most part and just misunderstood. It is a comedy and a love letter to the golden age of monster flicks. These type of reboots are simply using a popular franchise to gain viewers instead of creating an original idea and trying on their own. It the end it always backfires because the people that turn up to see it are disgusted by what they see. A product that is nothing like the beloved franchise. In theory, in a reboot they can change anything they want BUT a wise production team should know that most people want the product to resemble the original and pay tribute to it. When I go to see a reboot I want it to be the same but with updated production values.

      The first two Brady feature films were pretty good.
      I appreciated them for the fact that they spoofed the TV series but did not relentlessly mock it. They were not mean-spirited at all. Best of the 1990s? Probably not but they were successful and revived the Brady Bunch for a while and made a bunch of people appreciate the original TV series again.
      It helped that the creator of the TV series was an executive producer on those films.
      Look what's happened to every franchise in the last 10 years that has not had an original creative hand at the till. They've pretty much all gone to shit because the people in charge have NO CLUE about what made those shows work and they don't respect the original works and the fans. The major sci-fi franchise shows (Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who) are DEAD because of creative neglect and mismanagement.

    I actually have this film on VHS, I found it on Ebay for a decent price. The copy I have originated from a defunct movie rental store. Man, that was a long time ago when I reviewed this film on Forgotten Media and for a time, it was the only review for that film on RUclips until now heh. Nice to see other people looking at this obscure film. And hey, there does exist a DVD version of the film...... in Europe. Yeah, pesky region coding always has to ruin the fun. I personally think the reason why Universal like's to sweep this film under the rug is the whole deal of Jeykll's campaign to "get rid of the foreigners in America" plan, and considering the fact on how sensitive today's media has become, yeah. Also people might find some of the character ascents offending as there's quite a handful of them in the film, especially one scene when Herman and Grandpa disguise themselves as Amish people to escape the cops but idk. Still, I think this film deserves a second chance, it should get a rerelease on physical media or at least released on a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu.
