Blessed Meán Geimhridh/Yule! This is one of my favorite holidays since I have an excuse to stay up all night. Plus it's when many of my online friends gather for a group observance of the longest night. ETA: I tend to cook foods that evoke the warmth of the sun and the coming longer days, so the colors are bright and there's lots of warm spices and probably heat from chiles. Because I'm the only one in my family who observes the Solstice, it also means I tend to have a lot of leftovers to munch on. I would like to do a Midwinter shindig in person one day, though. It can feel a little lonely being the only Pagan in the family.
Good one! My tradition includes honoring Frau Hulda, the Christmas Witch by being kind to the geese just arriving en masse from Canada. I don't feed them, but sing with them and often enjoy big gaggles of them flying overhead, sometimes I get to witness some great visual effects of their wings reflecting the Sun and the power of their sounds when hundreds of them are soaring overhead at low altitude. In previous years I've participated in Krampus Lauf celebrations, and still honor him with Frau Hulda in my inner prayers and devotions. Thank you for keeping the flame of the Craft alive in the dungeon of this electric thing we all look into like a palantir. Gud Yule!
Good Yuletide to all! (*tide is 'time' in Middle English and the Scandinavian languages, via Old Norse, in which " jol" happens at the same time as the English Yule, with all the same trimmings)
In Russia Wiccans eat mandarins on Yule, because they symbolize the Sun. It is a secular custom, formed back in the Soviet era, which happenned to be meaningful when local versions of Wicca emerged in Russia around 2000s.

in the uralic tradition there´s no major festivals this time of the year.. there´s however notes of some local sacrifices (to keep out sickness, not to break pregnancies during winter). the sun really only starts to return in late january, but you do notice the days getting longer (most of the actual shamanic sun rituals happened at february). however (because people were spiritual and individual in the northern way) most of the families already did a lot in their daily lives (gave to the fire from every meal, gave to the moon when it appeared, butter or grease mostly, same colour you know). you can also notice that (even nowadays) people do start to gather and socialize in the evenings from early december on (because what else can you do in these blizzards, not much). so my conclusion is that instead of peak days (for the common people) it was more continuous socializing during the days of heavy snow fall (then start movement again from january forwards). so instead of something happening in nature, it´s because nothing´s happening :) it´s the time of winter, heavy snow, northern wind, nothern lights, big dipper (the heavenly elk), moon, blizzards and frost (all gods of their own right, the winter vocabulary is like thousands of words, mostly unstudied i think, but there´s some big deities there). personally i´m waiting for my third day in the sun (companionship) after her disappearance, and i go out looking for her, it should tell how cloudy it´s been.. even when she comes she barely hits the tree tops :)

I was raised celebrating Christmas normally and I've become pagan as I've grown up... I resonate with Yule much more as a representative holiday regarding the cycles of nature... Also I dived deep into nordic mythology and I appreciate Odin as an archetype and the "Yule Father".... I further tie that to the "Horned God" of celtic mythology who is typically associated to December 25th as the winter solstice and also performing a cleansing "wild hunt" typically in the winter... I find that the veil becomes thin at this time of year as the cycle takes us into the realm of death and the spirits and amid this high point the lord of spirits by whatever name you would call it traverses the sky in fairy cavalcade... Whether it be Cernunnos, Gwyn Ap Nudd, The Green Man, Herne the Hunter, Odin, Wotan, or Krampus even... It's a similar figure associated to this period of time.... I think that Krampus is a perfect example of the demonization of paganism by the roman catholic church... The Christianiization of Europe sought to demonize all things pagan and so the "Horned God" becomes Krampus as Saint Nicholas is offered as a more pleasing alternative from the Christian perspective... I've foud similar stories while researching Hindu mythology that during different periods of their history, they have to modify their gods in order to be culturally acceptable to the invading empires of the times... So Kali evolves into other Goddesses that are more pleasing in order to preserve her legacy as an example... This is a bit difficult to explain but I further tie it all the way back to Ea Enki of Sumerian mythology as the original goat... The original druidic "horned god"... The "Ibex of the Sea", the "Lord of the Abzu" and God of Magick, Knowledge, Arts and Crafts... I think this particular archetype is found actross pagan cultures and is the figure that was demonized into the Christian Devil...

Joyous Yule Season! I don't believe the pre-christian Norse Sacrificed to the Gods as it has been written about them by the Church. Sounds like Church Projection to me. Hail to the Mighty HEATHENS! BEST SHOW YET!
I think it's very well likely that early heathens did sacrifices during holy observances, followed by feasting. The only thing Christians did is make it seem like a bad thing. The sacrifice was cooked and became the feast. It's a more literal ritual that became symbolic in the Christian Communion meal.
@@scotthogan8483 Happy Yule Scott! If I'm understanding, you're saying The pre-Christian Norse viewed Sacrifice kind of the way we think about American Native Indians, giving Thanks to the Animal that they either consumed or made into Clothing. But instead to the Gods. This could be, it's not a bad idea. Thanks Be to ODIN!
@@victorblack6995 I tend to view it as being similar to a butcher in a kosher deli. in the uralic tradition there´s

the sun really only starts to

spiritual and individual in the

you can also notice that (even
nowadays) people do start to gather
and socialize in the evenings from
early december on (because what else
can you do in these blizzards,
not much).
so my conclusion is that instead of
peak days (for the common people)
it was more continuous socializing
during the days of heavy snow fall
(then start movement again from
january forwards).
so instead of something happening
in nature, it´s because nothing´s
happening :)
it´s the time of winter, heavy snow,
