Or maybe just a dowel, or even another branch without much greenery as the central trunk of an artificial/natural tree. Then other prunings or storm droppings for the needled branches. One can take up to 1/3 of a well established plant, the perennials and trees, and the plant will do just fine. No need to cut a whole tree, but if you live in a wooded area sapling cuts often regrow. Also the Forest benefits from sensible human prunings. Sawdust is food for many a good fungi.

I’ve been into peganism and started when I was 12. My parents found out and put me through intense catholic “cleaning” as they called it. I’m so happy I’m finally able to learn about peganism again and this was the first year my family (husband and daughter) celebrated Yule instead of a Christian version of Christmas 😊❤️

Thank you so much for sharing all of this 💕 I absolutely love to learn about other religions and cultures - religious studies was actually one of my favourite and best subjects in school, even though I am agnostic 😄 Especially Jewish traditions are something that I find so lovely to hear about! Have a blessed time ❄️✨
I love the Indian Festival of Lights also- it's called Dewali. From what I gather, they set lanterns in the river to light the way for the souls who have passed that year to find their way to the other side. It's already happened this year, closer to Thanksgiving.

Happy Yuletide! I've been a Norse heathen for many years and I love this season. You have a wonderful energy and exuberance, and I enjoyed hearing about ways that close neighboring traditions celebrate the holiday. I have to let you know, though, that the picture you showed at 8:05 is actually Odin/Wotan, and not Thor/Donar as stated. Odin is known for having sacrificed one of his eyes for wisdom and is associated with his two ravens, Huginn and Muninn. Odin would sometimes walk among mortals, disguised as one, and gauge how he was treated. Since hospitality was considered a noble virtue, those who showed such generosity were rewarded.
When you mentioned German, Slavic and Scandinavian traditions. I was quickly drawn to your videos on ancient customs. I am of all three backgrounds and feel such a kindred spirit towards these things. You brought back feelings I haven't felt since I was a child when we felt free to embrace old stories and folklore. I honestly believe my ancestors dwell inside me and guide me to my true heritage. Love your vlogs!
My grandparents were from Latvia and Estonia, your video brought back some very happy memories of things that we used to do and also some things that I had forgotten! My grandfather absolutely loved Christmas (he was Latvian) and he used to tell us many stories. He was also in charge of decorating the Christmas tree, he always bought a real one and it was magical to me as a child. Thank you for bringing back some very happy memories! Blessed be.
As one of many people from 'across the pond' with Germanic roots I enjoyed this video immensely. Thanks for sharing some origins of known and lesser known history in a fun way!
Thank you so much for this. A dear friend and witchy mentor passed away in 2021, she was from Germany and I recognize so many of these traditions when I would go to visit her home. I felt like she was visiting me and bringing the light ⭐️
I have been excited learning about pagan, german, and other cultures traditions and holidays and seeing what I can adopt into my own. My family doesnt celebrate holidays, only I do, so these times of the year can be really depressing for me. Witch craft has helped me celebrate holidays alone, knowing around the world other Witches and holiday lovers are celebrating them with me. Happy Holidays everyone!
I can’t tell you how happy this video makes me! I’ve been pagan witch for decades, yet even now at this time of year, I still sometimes feel like I’m on the outside looking in, as other people celebrate Christmas. Your video really makes me feel like you’ve brought me into the warmth and coziness and I can now feel that “gingerbread feeling” again. Thank you so much for this!!!
I noticed that these days Christmas has little to do with the birth of Christ: it's very money centric and who has more items to clutter their homes with around this time of the year. There's nothing wrong with celebrating Xmas even as a pagan. And if you celebrate Yule, you're even closer to many of the traditions that have lasted through the centuries. Try not to think too much of how Christians tortured pagans: pagans also did it to the Christians, so the 2 religions are almost even.
@sapphirecamui6447 No, you don't get to dictate others' beliefs and their opinions on Christianity. Christianity is inherently oppressive within its belief system and has done extensive damage to many many people, and this is not my own opinion, this is factual in its history and theology. It's not "almost even." There is no such thing when it comes to Christianity, and pagans are not trying to "get even," and it's vile to even suggest that is the way to come about it. Of course, Christmas has become capitalistic, that's how the US works (if you mean within the US), all holidays are opportunities for profit. Christmas is the bastardized version of Yule, appropriated by Christians and claimed as their own, with the claim Jesus was born in December, which isn't true. They made that fit into December to overshadow the pagan traditions of Yule, and steal our traditions under the guise of being ways to celebrate the Christian God. It's widely agreed upon by scholars and theologians that Jesus was born in the springtime, not winter. So Christians could be celebrating his birth & resurrection at the same time in the springtime, but instead they are stealing our traditions from Yule (and in the springtime, Ostara too) to celebrate their own beliefs. Nothing is wrong with celebrating Christian holidays as a Christian. However, appropriating other traditions is wrong.
@@abylerog TL;DR LOL Whatever you took is bad for you. Christianity appropriated many traditions 2000 years ago and was born out of Judaism. At first there was no difference between Jews and Christians. bye.
I’m so glad I found this channel for Yule! I’m Wiccan and I’m so happy to find someone with similar traditions with such an amazing attitude! You’re absolutely adorable and I’m so glad I found your channel!
This was a fun video and a great memory refresher. I'm not sure if I've told this story on your vlog page, but I have a December 6 or St Nicholas Day memory. It was my first year in Berchtesgaden and I had turned 8 on the 2nd. In school our German teacher (also school librarian) had been telling us tales of Yule, and she had told the story of St Nicholas in his Bishop's robes would parade through the streets with his "associates" , Black Peter, Krampus and the Butenmandl. Being a kid who lived in story books I believed every word and I was terrified I hadn't been good enough. That night my parents took us in town to watch them parade through the streets, if you haven't seen a picture of the Butenmandl they are covered in hay and snarling animal masks and carrying whips. The noise they made was terrible and as an American child in 1960 it was the stuff of nightmares. We went home after the parade, but the terror did not end; St Nicholas and several Butenmandl stopped at each of the houses where we lived. Now I had put my shined shoes on the porch, hoping I had been good enough to get them filled with candy. But I was afraid I hadn't been good and he would have the Butenmandl beat me, put me in a sack and hang me from a tree. I hid under my bed and refused to come out while I could hear them in our complex. I'm glad this isn't done anymore, but it did get me thinking about being good. Oh and I did get candy in my shoes.
Oh nooo 😅 I am feeling sorry for 8-year-old you! ❤️ I also remember being a bit scared of the Nikolaus and his helpers when I was a kid. In my area we didn't have the Butenmandl but the Wilde Drud, Krampus / Knecht Ruprecht and some other furry creatures. They were always nice when they came to the house but they definitely look scary! 😄 My son has never seen them (Nikolaus visits are not allowed due to Corona at the moment) but I am soooo excited to see how he will react 😁 have a magical Yule ❤️
That bread looks so easy and scrumptious! I love the idea of putting little spell bags on the tree. Very festive video. Have a beautifully blessed day 💗💚
And it is!! Just the right amount of sweet to eat it either as is or with some really smelly cheese - if you are a freak like me 😄 have a magical day and Yule ❄️
♥️ OMG! Why did not RUclips recommend this channel to me until now!? I love what you do! Your content is simply awesome! I love your energy and the way you talk.
I was a religious studies major so the part about swastikas made me lol - such rich history and spiritual significance Al around the world from many different peoples shouldn’t be marred by an authoritarian regime. The rolls look lovely! I always loved Yule - I grew up in a Unitarian Universalist church and the Winter Solstice service and Christmas Eve candlelight service are my favorites! I was born in Christmas so I dunno if I’m biased… now I’m almost 30 and embracing my ancestral traditions as a form of spiritual practice. It feels good to honor my heritage and have something special to pass on. Love the witchy vibes!
hello, i love your simple ways that you show and teach about the past. things so simple can give us a bit of joy. boiling water and steaming pine needles or orange peels. or making the tea you made. bringing in pine branches or hawthorne berries. brightens up our house. thats all that yule is. its no scary wicked religious ceremony. its just a little bit of love that we get to brighten our day. ive had no heat and you saying they were very cold and in need of spring just to stay alive and keep from freezing to death. its so heart breaking to think the fire place and maybe the walls was unable to keep the heat in. some people maybe were fortunate to keep the house at 45 degrees. i bet theyd be heart broken to see our miserable lives the way we are now. we might have heat but do we have love for our neighbor so many things have changed in this world. i long for what some call the summer land.
Tree farms give the farmer an income from land and maybe prevents the land from becoming a housing development or a strip mall with a giant parking lot. I have no problem with farmed holiday trees. I don’t consider them unsustainable. At least if they aren’t sprayed with all kinds of chemicals but that can be any kind of farming. I don’t think they are replacing natural forest in most places but are transitional farm land.
You are actually correct! Someone shared a really lovely article on my Instagram that states that if you buy at a organic Christmas tree farm it is actually the best option! I was soooo happy to hear 😄💕
I've always enjoyed the pagan tradition! And with viking/norse ancestry I have been study of lot my ancestor's history and mythology. Would be fun to share some of the stories around the bonfire this year.
I'm so glad I found you on this day! It's rare to find someone who has so much knowledge that isn't an absolute bore to listen to. I have a new found playlist on today while I am creating and decorating. THANK YOU! Happy Yule to you and all of yours. ❤
I've been reading all of these stories in the book The Old Magic Of Christmas by Linda Raedisch. It's such a good book. But I will admit, hearing you explain them on video has helped me grasp the names.... I lived in Germany for 4 years and know a little German, but sometimes those words are a bit hard to pronounce so this totally helped! Thank you for this!
Yule was my mother's favorite. I loved waking up and seeing untouched snow, the sunlight dancing and flickering in the virgin snow. I live in the south now, but I recreate that feeling by closing my eyes and envisioning the beauty. Truly magical.
This was a great video!! And now I know why my gran had a couple of birds on her christmas tree every year! I lost them over the years but I think I need to find a couple for our trees! Happy upcoming Yule!!
I love German and Scandinavian cultures, I quite enjoyed this video! I love learning about the old traditions, my church had St. Nicolas come after the service today and leave treats in all the children's shoes which was quite fun. Thanks for sharing the origins of many of these traditions!
The sad part is that Christianity stole traditions from the lands they conquered and forced them into joining that religion in a "join us or die" kind of way. And most people don't know about the real origins of what people celebrates. I really like your video.
So true! 💕 Depending on region and country though it wasn't actually forced ☺️ from historic documents we know that a lot of people favoured the new religion (speaking solely about Europe here - of course a lot of other countries in other parts of the world were forced into Christianity 🙁).
I've traveled to many countries in Asia, Europe and South America, and one common theme is how different the Christian traditions and practices are from community to community. While it is true that many places (including the community that I'm from) were coerced into converting, with respect to the traditions, I think it was a genuine effort on their part to integrate christianity into the communities traditions instead of isolating people from their history. I'm no expert though, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.
They know but whine about it being pagan and Satanic. I say if you don’t like it, give the customs back. You won’t be left with much though. The pope ordered the missionaries to incorporate the old beliefs and customs to encourage conversion. They want to have their cake and eat it too.
@Trinity M I'm from a small Asian community, so I can only speak for myself and my experiences. That being said, there are various sects in christianity as well as other religions. Some are more tolerant while others arent. Religion is complex; people are complex. Secondly, it's absurd to assume that traditions were carried on linearly. Historically speaking, there were an endless number of disasters, invasions, migrations, and innovations. Traditions changed, Gods changed, religion changed, people changed. What we know about history is only from the records kept. Life is more complex than that. Perspective is relative, and it's impossible to know anything for sure.
I am learning so much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! & such rich history! I am born & raised here in the US but I have Scandinavian and German roots & learning that there are so many special traditions is so exciting! My family goes to Oktoberfest but that’s the most we ever dabble in the culture 🥲. My mom is very Christian but I would say I am Pagan if anything. I love learning how both mythologies connect in various ways so we can all enjoy this lovely season! Cheers & sending love! 🖤🥰
Thank you so much for your dedication to ancestral tradition. I live in the states and crave the older ways in the fall and winter, so your creation on this channel and Lore bring support to my heart. Thank you!
Such an interesting video! Learning about our roots is very satisfying. Also, I can't help myself but think about Dwight Schrute as the Krampus in the "the Office"!
I love how you didn’t leave out the shape of the bread, reclaiming these symbols and returning them to their former glory is powerful in itself. I just found your channel and I’m so excited to try some of your traditions this Yule. I love teaching my children how people celebrate around the world, we homeschool so it often means a deep dive into what sparks their interest and how other people live and what they celebrate, it is definitely a favorite amongst my kiddos. Thank you for sharing, I’m excited to watch your 21 day playlist. Many blessings! 💜
I’m so happy I found your channel a few months back. Love all the videos you make and how much information you give. My daughter and I love watching from the other side of the world in Portland, Oregon.
I didn't get to try making the Thomasradln in time for Yule, but I made them this weekend! I did mine in a triskelion/triple spiral shape just to mix it up :) They're super delicious, especially with my morning coffee. Thank you so much for sharing that recipe, I would never have known about it otherwise as it's not too well-known here in the States and I couldn't really find any other recipes online that weren't in German. Would love to see more recipes in future videos 💛
I love learning new things about the holidays, and this was such a fun video. Whenever people talk about Christmas traditions from Germany I always end up thinking of that episode from The Office where Dwight is dressed up as Belsnickel. 😂
So happy to hear ❤️ I only ever saw the UK version of the office hahah but maybe I will use my Christmas 'holidays' to watch the US version too 😄 because I have to see that episode
Just happened across your channel as I am learning about Yule and my spiritual journey. Your personality is adorable and so cheerful, I LOVE IT! Thank you for this information!
I love your positive energy. I appreciate that you share and explain your traditions. I also love that you call yourself a Christmas (yule) witch- you bring a little magic to the season. Thank you.
I actually cheered out loud when I saw you posted a new video! I just love to hear the history of so many of traditions and where they come from. Also, I absolutely love your cloak!!! Not many people in my town wear them, but I might have to start the trend! I just threw on a simmering pot of oranges, cinnamon sticks and spices to energize my home as well . Thank you for bringing such happiness and positivity to my day! You look absolutely lovely by the way- just glowing and radiant❤️
Hahah I feel so honoured! 💕 I am also the odd one out with my cloak but I gladly am - it is soooo warm and lovely! Much better than any winter jacket because it also keeps the legs warm. It'd say: go and start that trend! Wouldn't mind of cloaks got back in fashion 😄 sending much love and bright blessings your way ✨💕
Sinterklaas (St Nikolas) is celebrated December 5/6...mainly in the Netherlands/Belgium and parts of W-Germany...that's when children receive gifts (not on Christmas)...carrots and cookies are left in a shoe (a wooden klomp in the olden days) the night before. Enjoyed your happy video.
We also celebrate Nikloaus in the South of Germany and Austria. But he doesn't come on the steam boat with the zwaarte piet but lives in the forest And comes with the krampus and the witches of the winter winds 😄
I enjoy the lessons about Yule (I’m not pagan etc but I am very open-minded and love to learn about all cultures and beliefs)! Honestly though I could watch and listen to you speak about anything!!
Greetings from NJ in the States! Beautifully filmed....the dark sky with the big white flakes! I should have had my tea ready....because I wasn't ready for how beautifully wintery this was going to be.
Your discussion about the various types of Yule trees got me thinking about my lighted ceramic tree! I just have to keep my cat, Princess Freya Busybody from destroying it! She just wants to play. 😻
You said Bavaria… And I spent way too long revisiting The RavenLoft module from D&D. Can just envision Strahd looking out onto Bovaria, seeing your lovely upbeat smile and just scowling. “I donot think we’re getting through to her..” I truly enjoyed this video. Was a very bright spot in my morning. Thank you!
You are nothing short of a complete INSPIRATION!!! Much love and beautiful energies from me in Oklahoma USA and happiest Yule to you!!! Thank you for sharing your amazing content with us all!

Hello! I just found your channel! I love it, its full of color, season, history, taste, and the cozy of home! Thank you so much! My father was from Hamburg unfortunately I dont know much about that side of the family. Really enjoyed your video!!
I learned a lot from this video, things I've never been taught before and I love it so much. To me, it's more honest to celebrate in this way. Thank you for making this. I'm inspired to learn more & enjoy Yule instead of Christmas in a whole new and exciting way, ❤
Your videos are such a joy to watch! You have such an upbeat attitude and you explain everything really well, thank you! Your house has gotta smell amazing during the holidays 🥰
I've just finished cooking a Thoma wheel and omg my house smells amazingly and, after taking a little bite, I can say that it taste so yummy. Amazing, thank you for the recipe. Blessed Yule 2023 ❤
This is my first time watching your videos, and you are delightful! I am not pagan but I respect your practices, how can you not respect a religion that respects nature and life? 😊. I look forward to watching more and maybe putting some magic into my life.
I'm new to your channel and loved the Pagan Yule stories & history, thank you so much, your video is wonderful, the snow is amazing, I live in the USA in Florida and we don't have snow, you are the best, and looking forward to watch your videos, blessings.
I just started to get more interested into germanic paganism because I am dutch and thus germanic. Thanks for making this lovely video, it was fun to watch and I wish you a good and happy yule!
I am so glad I found your channel! I’m writing a fantasy novel and the characters don’t celebrate Christmas, so I wanted to learn more about Yule for them instead
Guten Tag! You just earned a new subscriber! I'm loving the way u incorporate Germanic traditions, as a fellow Pagan, and lover of the festive Yuletide season! That makes this time of year so warm and cozy. I'm thrilled about learning about the traditions of my elders and I look forward to keeping them within the coming of next year.

I hope you find yourself creating joy in your own traditions this year and feeling fully a part of this season!
@sapphirecamui6447
No, you don't get to dictate others' beliefs and their opinions on Christianity.
At first there was no difference between Jews and Christians. bye.
Thank you this is our first Yule ! And I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can
That's so exciting! Have a magical Yule ✨
I hope you find yourself creating joy in your own traditions this year and feeling fully a part of this season!
I didn’t know about the connections between the folklores of different traditions! The video was awesome and got me in the yule spirit :)
So happy it got you feeling festive 😄 I always love to go and dig in my books for these fun connections between customs and mythology ❤️
Oh how I adore your videos ⛄️❄️♥️ You are a Blessing to this platform 🙏🏻😘
Thank you so much for your always lovely comments ❤️
You are such a breath of fresh air! Thank you ❤
Tree farms give the farmer an income from land and maybe prevents the land from becoming a housing development or a strip mall with a giant parking lot.
I love all the folklore and mythology too! So fascinating to read what people believed back in the days ☺️✨
Thank you! I was lacking holiday spirit but now I feel inspired 🌲❤️
I adore your videos. Such beauty and useful information.
So happy to hear it got you in the festive mood 🌨️✨💕 have a magical Yule!
My ancestors come from Bavaria so I'm grateful to have found your channel, many blessings and more! 🕯 🕯
This is exactly what I needed to brighten my Yule. Thank you for the fun ideas and the old meanings of what we do. Blessed be.
Yule was my mother's favorite. I loved waking up and seeing untouched snow, the sunlight dancing and flickering in the virgin snow. I live in the south now, but I recreate that feeling by closing my eyes and envisioning the beauty. Truly magical.
I hope you find yourself creating joy in your own traditions this year and feeling fully a part of this season!
@@naturalwitchery thank you so much. I wish you the best of holidays.
This was a great video!! And now I know why my gran had a couple of birds on her christmas tree every year! I lost them over the years but I think I need to find a couple for our trees! Happy upcoming Yule!!
Thank you ❤️ I love my little birdies on the tree 🌲 hope you find some cute ones to remind you of your gran! Have a magical Yule ✨
Not everywhere but ok
You are truely glowing in this video, you look so happy! Your videos help me feel more confident in working some of my own craft, thank you.
Thank you, lovely! The snow just makes me super excited and happy 😄❄️
I LOVE your videos! It doesn't even matter what they're about. They're put together so well that I pay attention and want to watch more!
Oh that is so sweet of you 💕
Like your winter outfits and decorations. Baking is fantastic.
Thank you, lovely! Have a wonderful Yule ❄️🌨️✨
I’m so happy I found your channel a few months back. Love all the videos you make and how much information you give. My daughter and I love watching from the other side of the world in Portland, Oregon.
Welcome to the channel and so happy to hear you enjoy it 💕 wishing you and your daughter a merry Yule ✨☺️
🙏 just what I needed to help kick me into gear for Yule.
So happy to hear! Have a magical Yuletide ✨🌨️
I absolutely love this and can't wait to add these traditions to our families traditions.
I was born on Winter Soltice/ Yule December 21st
BLESSED BE!!!
Your video is such high quality, and your content thorough and explained so well… Love your presence, your videos are a joy to watch.
Once again a very happy and feel good video thank you so much for all the warm and cozy yule vibes :D
Wishing you a magical Yule ✨☺️🌲
@@Thewitchescookery prepare to settle in because I think that episode is in the 9th season. 😂 It’s a super fun show though.
What a wonderful, refreshing person you are. I have really enjoyed this. Thank you. ❤
Just happened across your channel as I am learning about Yule and my spiritual journey. Your personality is adorable and so cheerful, I LOVE IT! Thank you for this information!
This video is so aesthetically beautiful it finally awakened my holiday spirit! I didnt think it was gonna happen for me this year, thank you 💕
I love your positive energy. I appreciate that you share and explain your traditions. I also love that you call yourself a Christmas (yule) witch- you bring a little magic to the season. Thank you.
You just have such a kind and happy energy. I love your videos!
Thank you so much, lovely ❤️
That cloak is absolutely incredible!
Wouldn't mind of cloaks got back in fashion 😄 sending much love and bright blessings your way ✨💕
That smells so good.
Your beautiful videos bring me such joy, thankyou. Keep shining your light ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ Love and blessings 🙏💖
Thanks so much for leaving this sweet comment ❤️ so happy you get joy out of the videos ✨ have a magical Yule!
Enjoyed every joyful minute! Happy yule!
Happy Yule and a magical festive time to you ❄️✨☺️
My family is German and Swedish. I knew some of this but you gave so much more! Thank you! 😁 Blessed Yuletide to you.
Greetings from NJ in the States! Beautifully filmed....the dark sky with the big white flakes! I should have had my tea ready....because I wasn't ready for how beautifully wintery this was going to be.
I love your videos so much. I always learn a lot and your sense of f humour makes me smile. Greetings from a UK druid.
TO MY DEAR WITCHES ! HAPPY YULE ! BLESSED BE !
Blessed be!
Merry meet and blessed be to you too. 🥰🥰
Your discussion about the various types of Yule trees got me thinking about my lighted ceramic tree! I just have to keep my cat, Princess Freya Busybody from destroying it! She just wants to play. 😻
Ah is that her full title? 😂 Love it! Trees are definitely a challenge with (furry) little demons around...
You said Bavaria… And I spent way too long revisiting The RavenLoft module from D&D.
Can just envision Strahd looking out onto Bovaria, seeing your lovely upbeat smile and just scowling. “I donot think we’re getting through to her..”
I truly enjoyed this video. Was a very bright spot in my morning. Thank you!
You are nothing short of a complete INSPIRATION!!!
Much love and beautiful energies from me in Oklahoma USA and happiest Yule to you!!!

I'm inspired to learn more & enjoy Yule instead of Christmas in a whole new and exciting way, ❤
Really festive! Amazing that it's December again already. 🎄🎄
Sooo glad RUclips recommended this video to me ! You’re the witchy RUclipsr I’ve been looking for !!
This is my first time watching your videos, and you are delightful! I am not pagan but I respect your practices, how can you not respect a religion that respects nature and life? 😊. I look forward to watching more and maybe putting some magic into my life.

I just started to get more interested into germanic paganism because I am dutch and thus germanic. Thanks for making this lovely video, it was fun to watch and I wish you a good and happy yule!
One of the best Yule docu vlogs you'll find out there. Thank you for all the information that shall not be forgotten 💜💜💜
This was delightful and fascinating insight into your Yule preparations Bex and I'm loving the winter weather of course!!!!
I love watching your videos, They always bring me so much joy!

Guten Abend, thank you for your Yule Vlog your hints and tips really inspire me and the craft that I am beginning to grow into.
Yea! Yule is here. Do you have a cook book? I like all the cooking ideas but need a little more guidance in the kitchen. I love Yule!!!
