Not all police are this way. Many do risk their lives daily. Others like the FL SRO officer who hid behind a vehicle while kids died are cowards. And the police chief here needs replaced. If the teacher who propped open the door lived she should be held access too and sued by the parents. A locked door helps give time for excape or locking doors from gunmen.

Every single one of those officers should be fired immediately & have charges filed against them. They signed up for this. No one forced them to become police officers. Disgusting.

How were regular patrol officers supposed to get inside a barricaded classroom while receiving fire from an assault rifle? They had none of the gear necessary--no battering ram , no ballistic shields , no flash-bang grenades , no assault rifles, etc. They did what their Incident Commander instructed them to do--evacuate the other classrooms and wait for a Tactical Team that had all that equipment to arrive. Saying that they were all cowards is just repeating what you read hundreds of other people already post .

One thing I learned as both a retired Cop, now Private Investigator, and a believer is anyone who has told me they hate kids & dogs has never been a person a felt comfortable being around. Anyone who harms them is pure evil. Its a funny comparison but I have always been a huge pet person and always thought the most of kids even though I have never had any. Kids never lie, forgive, are very pure, and innocent noit dirtied by the ways of the world. Dogs also are very honest, not good at lying, always forgive you. etc

Also, as far the police response in Texas police for the last 20 years have been trained not to stage up on an active shooter but to respond and stop the threat immediately. This incident on the heels of people already not hge fans of police is going down as the biggest embrassment of these cowards who stood by waiting for a swat team why 9 year old girls were on cell phones begging for police. This is horrific and for those of you who do not remember or were not police when they changed our training was after the Columbine attack where police also staged outside why the attackers executed students with no police response. The training then went ot telling cops first three on scene enter as a team then changed to any first cop on scene goes in to save lives. Im pretty sure the moral of the story here folks is God Hates a Coward. These cops will live with this the rest of their lives why cops were rolling on the ground fighting with furious parents they should have been doing their job.

I am immediately brought to tears each time i hear about the husband having a heart attack due to grief. Those 4 kids literally just lost 2 parents in a matter of a few days 😢
This whole tragedy is extremely heartbreaking. these little kids and families have to live with this forever. children living in fear and afraid to go to school. i hate this world and i will NOT bring another child into it.
And their kids are young... they aren't yet adults. They would have needed their dad more than ever right now.. my heart hurts for them. I pray they have solid extended family. This whole situation is terrible.

Patrol cops don't have battering rams , ballistic shields , body armor , helmets , flash-bang grenades , assault rifles , etc. The cops there had a Commander who instructed them what to do . dude im sorry i know the cops have a hard job here and in a lot of cases should wait for backup but when you have a gunman in a school with elementary school children they really should have grown a pair and done their jobs and protected the community, an absolute disgrace and no excuse in my opinion and people wonder why we have no trust in law enforcement. All the officers should be fired because they obviously are not the right men/women for the job especially when school shooting are so common now a days....

They had ten minutes of this guy shooting around the outside of the school and not one person in that school made sure at least the doors was locked? Wtf the police sat outside and did not cause they was shot at? Not one cop was like f that I'll go in and at least try to stop him? This is a complete mess. not only did our laws and systems fail these kids by allowing this killer to purchase this style of gun, but the officers sworn to protect us and the school staff who was probably so distraught they panicked and forgot everything they learned. we can't expect teachers to have the responsibility of taking out a shooter!!

I don’t understand how they cannot be equipped with the proper equipment. If an 18-year-old can go into a shop and buy two A.R. 15‘s why can’t police officers also have an A.R. 15 in their trunk? Why do they need to wait one hour for a SWAT team to arrive with the proper equipment? The campus security officer who arrived after hearing a 911 call did not even have keys to unlock the classroom even though his soul job is to mitigate these type of issues.

The most important question is how many children died from the moment they should have engaged the active shooter and when the swat team engaged and killed the active shooter. This is very important because it seems had they followed the active shooter protocol and immediately moved to quickly engage the shooter they might have been able to completely prevent this tragedy. Remember according to DPS time line police units arrived at the funeral home before the shooter had entered the building and further more a school police officer had just arrived in his patrol car and was actively searching for the shooter in the parking lot. While all this was happening again according to DPS time line the active shooter was outside the school shooting the windows out of class rooms. All these law enforcement plus most likely additional law enforcement personnel in the immediate vicinity had to have heard shots being fired in or around a school full of children. Each and every law enforcement officer near or on school property who heard the shots fired or were alerted that an active shooter was present at the school should have moved to actively engage and neutralize the active shooter immediately! This is suppose to be the protocol all law enforcement agencies should follow since the Columbine Massacre. I firmly believe this tragedy could have been prevented had just one police officer present before or right after the shooter had entered the school had followed the rules of engagement regarding an active shooter in a school. In my opinion those present who could have prevented this tragedy are guilty of dereliction of duty at the very least if not more serious offences.
The US has just over 3,000 counties total, meaning that the majority of Americans have better access to firearms than mental health care. Really demonstrates what the priorities are.

This all could have been avoided. Incompetence here. As a retired teacher, this sickens me. My heart is breaking for these people and all these children. This would not have happened in another country.

In many schools districts in Ohio since 2013 ,secured entry with push button intercom and camera,with all entry ways locked and an on site armed sheriff in every school,has worked for the safety of students since 2012 sandy Hook shootings,all other schools should implement this type of security as an example and prevention methods for others so our nations baby's trying to get an education are Safe, what happened to the great "Safety First" core values in society

Even if the doors were locked he would have just broke in. TBF schools should be able to leave their doors and windows open and not expect it to be an open invite for a mass shooter, or you, to see it as an open invite to come in and slaughter small children.

My heart breaks for those kids who lost their lives and their families. It breaks for those lucky ones who survived. But are they lucky?? Smh. These innocent children are traumatized for life. I find myself throughout the day just imagining what horrific reality turned nightmare they had to endure. I wish I could give my own piece of mind and take the weight of hurt and trauma them kids have to carry with them. Nobody deserves that. Especially children!! I am in a dark place the past couple days. It won't stop. I have a 7yr old son. And I couldn't imagine. I can and will send my prayers unfortunately I sent them same prayers last week to buffalo NY. God be with these families please 🙏.

Law enforcement in this case was a nightmare...they took too long to act, since the killer made the first 2 shots outside of school. And then, nobody came to stop him...
And the more absurd is that he could go inside the school without any resistance...the door wasn't locked....

The US Marshal's may be right, they didn't arrest anyone but there were 5 different agencies there. The local police, the sheriff's could have handcuffed people. There were also FBI, Border agents, Texas Rangers.

Law enforcement prevented parents from entering the premises and restrained them from trying to find and recover their children, but a young man with a disturbed look in his eye carrying an AR-15 semiautomatic assault rifle (in plain view and not concealed in any way) can enter an elementary school without any scrutiny? It's true that hindsight is 20/20, but logic is almost always consistent. These children had practice running lockdown drills and this is probably the reason why so many individuals were able to survive this atrocity (I can only weep for the innocent lives that were unnecessarily cut short), but shouldn't locking doors when not in use be par of standard security protocol? Y'all are focussed on policing who uses which restroom instead of policing the gun-brandishing hooligans who easily enter a school and wreak havoc. Stop obsessing with what is between an individual's legs and redirect your attention to the thoughts between their ears, the words coming out of their mouths, and what they are holding in their hands.
Same thing happened when other school shootings happened. Kids walking out of school and parents demanded change. The unfortunate truth is we'll here about another school shooting again. SMH very sad

Cops dropped the ball here for sure but no one should have been able to breach an elementary through an unlocked door, especially while brandishing weapons and especially with armed guards inside. The massive failure of the staff in charge of securing the school is unforgiveable.
Im not sure there even was an armed guard inside at all much less at the back of the school, where he entered. They claimed he fought past an armed guard at first then said that never happened.
If you're not sure that what the police did showed incompetence just imagine if the fire department showed up at a daycare fire and just stood outside and watched it burn.
