  • When a new band creates an exciting trend on TikTok, it makes me raise my eyebrows in various directions. Why have people who have never heard their sound before gravitated so quickly to them, and what are they offering a scene that's different than everything else? Today, we check out Sleep Theory and their breakout hit "Fallout" for the first time.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Sleep Theory for the first time, performing "Fallout”.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Written and Performed by Sleep Theory
    Cullen Moore - Vocals
    Daniel Pruitt - Guitars

Hey, my name is David Cowell and I produced and wrote this with the guys. Thought I’d introduce myself since you asked who produced it. Glad you dig the layers and textures 🤘🏻
Also to those who’ve commented, the nod to early era Linkin Park was 100% intentional and done with respect to their legacy. Check out their other tunes 🤘🏻🔥

This sounds like Linkin Park has a brother but without the emotional voice and sound Chester Beddington had. The scratches, the sound, the vocals yes a revival of 90's New metal. R.i.p Chester and Linkin Park.

I saw Sleep Theory open for Beartooth and Invent/Animate in Philadelphia and in Baltimore in the same week. Sleep Theory was incredible. At least twice as good live as they are in the studio. They had so much energy and such fun.

On the song length thing: This flavor of Metalcore/Melodic Nu-Metal is pretty much always in that 3-4 minute ballpark. Not sure if it's a quirk of the genre or a side effect of this sort of music getting a lot of radio playtime (also why this music is affectionately called Octane-core). As someone who grew up on bands like Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, etc. this sort of music just feels like home.

Not a single bad song on their EP, Numb, Another Way, It's Over, Gone Or Staying, Enough in that order.
Their reimagined of Numb and Another Way are fantastic as well and really highlights Cullen's singing ability.

From an old-head perspective, watching how Metal has progressed from the guitar shredding of the 80's, to industrial elements of the late 90's and early 2k's, to the ground pounding of the mid-2k's and 2010's..
Sleep Theory has combined all of the greatest achievements throughout the eras.
You can definitely hear the homage to the combined elements of POD and Linkin Park..
But from a personal standpoint, I get a more nostalgic feeling from hearing the influences in Rock and Metal from bands like Skillet and Demon Hunter
This song in particular gives me vibes of if the two bands did a track together [which btw John Cooper did alot of that "cry" back in the day]
[Skillet used alot of the industrial sound editing on Collide and Comatose]
[When it comes to layering Clean Singing and Dirty Screams/Roars together, Demon Hunter more or less wrote the book on it]
I personally love this song because it legitimately molds all the eras together into one.. If there were a song that would be the embodiment of all generations of Metal up to and uncluding the current era, THIS SONG would be IT

Since you mentioned the edm background, and obviously are spoiled by metal, check out I see stars. Mixing the 2 is their thing
Also I think you should check out Nothing More, Jenny would be a good start if you wanna get punched in the feels

I think two bands and their songs that will make your ears go “whaaat?” are “do your worst” by Outline in Color w/ Loveless (yes, three vocalists to dissect) and “control and the urge to pray” by Saosin (Anthony Green’s neck is insane. And so is their drummer, Alex Gonzalez).

    PLEASE look at 2 bands.
STARSET - The Breach (seriously great band they are an 8 piece! you will love it from a composition pov as well as vocals, very inspirational. They have MANY really awesome pieces of work. The use of classical and rock and synth elements. Vocalist Dustin has a voice like no other, his raw emotion is beyond anything i have seen live and on album and range is insanely good)
Smash in to Pieces - AFTERGLOW or Wake up (Scandinavian rock, and they are phenomenal live and on track, the singer is really unique! and they are so sweet to their fans. They are so inspirational and the vocalist Chris is powerful but also shows range with such a shift in his vocal!)

Scratching, sampling etc in metal started way back in the 80s.
A band called Pop Will Eat Itself were one of the pioneers. They did a collaboration with The Prodigy called "Their Law" in which the lead singer of PWEI was the lead voice on the track.
PWEI started mixing metal, punk, scratching, hip hop, rap, Industrial etc into their music since 1986.
    The Prodigy since 1990.
Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails signed PWEI to his own label stating he was a big fan & they were an influence to his music & possibly a number more?
A band whose music is so underrated in the influence of others.
May I suggest "There is no love between us anymore", "Wise Up Sucker" & "Can U dig it" as suggestions?
Their ideology was as in their lyrics of "Very Metal Noise Pollution",
    Not quite, not rite
    Not fairly, not pretty
    But very metal!
    Sample it, loop it
    F**k it, eat it
    And spit it out!
I've placed a comment on another of your RUclips posts talking about The Sisters of Mercy ft Ofra Haza - Temple of Love (1992) the extended mix is 8+ mins & still doesn't seem long! You just sail along with Andrew Eldritch's deep baritone Ofra Haza's beautifully soft tones. Sounds a very strange mix for a band formed in 1980 from the post punk scene & becoming a seminal band in the influence of the Gothic Rock scene, so much so, I've seen college kids wearing their t-shirts to this day!
I'd love to hear your opinion & analyse of this track?
That song & The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary. The lead singer Ian Astbury has a serious set of pipes & stage presence.
    All are highly uplifting!
Great for driving long journeys, home after a stressful day or when you just need a serious emotional pick me up!
    Happy listening!

It's funny you mention Falling In Reverse. Because both FIR and Sleep Theory are signed to Epitaph Records. Which would also explain the super high budget production on both the video and the audio. From what I've seen Epitaph puts a lot of resources into their artists.

So I've been binge watching your rock content and I've been having a blast! I tend to listen to the instruments more in music and then the vocals. Listening to your feedback on vocals has been enlightening. New subscriber for sure! Might I recommend two songs. "King For A Day" by Peirce The Veil and "If You Can't Hang" by Sleeping With Sirens.
