This is BEAUTIFUL basketball. I'm 15 and I never heard about how amazing this team was, this is honestly the greatest defense I've seen and most selfless flowing offense as well.
+DullTorpedoFilms I'm 32 and a Pistons fan but I can honestly say I think it was one of the best teams ever and truly underrated. Insane defense, some teams couldn't even bring the ball up the court on Hunter and Mike James our BACKUP PG's. And Rasheed and Billups could do anything on O. And Tay was great all around and Rip moving without the ball non stop.
I graduated from high school this year! The Pistons winning the championship that year with nothing but pure defense made it so much better! Great year!
This Pistons team was the Greatest Defensive Team of the 2000s! Bar None! The 2008 Celtics team comes after! Ben Wallace was the heart of this team's defense but Tyshaun Prince was so underrated! He complimented Big Ben so well! Tyshaun made elite scorers like Kobe & T-Mac work for their 20+ pts & sometimes he held them below that! He gave them hell!
Agreed! Tayshaun definitely gave those bigger guards a tough time. Hell they all would give players a tough time. Chauncey was strong and tough. Rip was fast and had stamina. Sheed was a force down low. And nobody could mess with Big Ben! Man I miss this team.
You cannot take absolutely anything away from these pistons.. They beat kobe and shaq the best modern era basketball team. Heart+defense+ hustle= Detroit 2004-2006
This is how champions are won. Now teams just want to stack on talent and get the easy win. LAZY players. Score 50 but let me see them play a FULL 48 MINUTES of hard nosed defense. No matter what players you have, if everyone is on the same page on defense, you'll win.
Richard Alcala The rules completely favor the offense, and make it nearly impossible for players to play defense. Only the most elite defenders of today are able to adjust to those rules: Kawhi Leonard, Andre Roberson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, Robert Covington, Tony Snell. And Detroit was actually pretty deep when they won the Championship in 2004. They had Lindsay Hunter, Mike James, Mehmet Okur, and Campbell in the second unit.
0:38 was one of my fav go-to plays back in the day. As soon as you see Rip bringing the ball up the right side of the court and Tey slipping past the defense on the left, you know that Alley oop is coming.
Video gives me chills every time. The passion and energy of this team was just bar none. Also, no one worked harder on the court than Ben Wallace. You weren't going to out hustle him.
One of the greatest teams ever, epic epic team defense... Between these Pistons and the "Bad Boy" Piston that city had easily two of the greatest defensive teams ever and agrubaly two of the greatest teams ever .
Before anyone says 'Whatever, it was Milwaukee' the Bucks were #4 in PPG scoring that year. And the East was so tightly clumped that the Bucks were 1 game from #4 and a better matchup,.
If they won another chip, the Pistons from 2002-2008 would be listed as one of the greatest teams ever. I loved this group of guys. Larry Brown broke my heart when he left
Exactly, who would be the frontrunners of the league if this type of physical defense was played. I love watching this era of nba as a kid. Now it hard to watch this all the new rules in play for a finesse type of game. it is definitely not the man sport it used to be
Neel Moudgil Lebron already did for a couple of years. The 2004-2005 suns ruined the league. They saw people were tuning in more to watch the suns play and they figured the revenue would increase if more teams played that way. So they changed the rules to favor the offensive player
Holy fuck, they straight had these niggas locked up in prison. Even though I hated the Pistons as a Heat fan, I respected the hell out of those guys. "DEEEEEETTTTROOOOOIT BASKEEEEEETBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL!!!!"
I was at this game when I was 5 and my dad and I were in the Palace when they won that third title. My favorite team of ALL TIME!! They made me love basketball and were like superheroes to me living in Michigan as a kid
Yeaa... I see REAL BAD BOYS PISTONS from 2004 i click This team not only broke all the records from the Pistons 90s, but also did not foul to damage anyone. Pure defense, and Ben is in charge like the boss of a given lvl.
This is some DAMN good defense!!! All 5 players on the floor played defense, unlike today where most teams have 1 or 2 good perimeter defenders and/ or a good shot blocker down low.
This team is why I think these new players are slightly overrated. The kind of defense the NBA allowed in the late 90's mid 2000's is REAL defense. Hand checking allowed. The players now have all the skills and athleticism in the world, but unless you can play against a defensive team like this, you're not a complete player in my eyes.
I gotta say, after they beat my favorite team in the 2005 playoffs I hated the Pistons. However, with years go by and I look back, I've come to pay my respects and really like the Pistons of the 2000s. I'm a big fan of a good defensive team and this one was so smothering and suffocating that you couldn't get a field goal to save your life. Btw, Ben Wallace should've been the defensive player of the year in 2004, not Artest.
Some thoughts: 1. That hustle! 2. Playing against the Pistons in this game would have been just demoralizing. They were hammering and hammering way beyond what was necessary. But this was Game 1 in a playoff series and this energy essentially decided the outcome of the rest of it. 3. Basically all those steals were clean, and all those offensive fouls were legit. Nice to see! Sure, Ben might have started falling a little even before he was hit, but his feet were planted and the Bucks players made forward contact... that's a charge. This Pistons team knew how to play the game right without trying to get away with stuff by acting or playing underhanded, which is all too rare. Sure, they were aggressive and The Palace was a nightmare to play at in those days - Detroit fans can be rabid - but this was the Pistons' MO. 4. I'll always be salty about the Pistons getting Darko Milicic this year and not getting D-Wade, Chris Bosh, or 'Mello (or LeBron, which was in the cards). Can you even imagine!? Biggest disappointment ever. 5. George Blaha is such a legend.
today's NBA teams leading by 20 going into the 4th : let me rest my starters and don't risk them 04 Pistons leading by 27 with 2 minutes to go : keep torturing the opponent
This team idc what anyone says, was so fun to watch. Like it made you, the fan so appreciative of a team playing defense. You don’t see that, ever! Except with this one and only team!!!
2:27 is perfect team defense and what the pistons did better than any other team in history. They ride you just to the point they won't get called for a foul and then someone helps out and gets a steal.
everyone probably thinks of the spurs, lakers, heat over the past 15 years but i'd say the 2004 pistons or 2008 celtics could potentially shut any of them down due to superior DEFENSE.
I've always said this would have been the team that would shut down Steph because they're the only team since the early 90s that pressed for 48 minutes. Hard to get any flow when your possession starts with 16 seconds on the clock
Karl Tanner, the FOOKIN LEGEND the Spurs were among the best defensive teams in the league every year during that time also dumbass. The spurs were always either 1, 2 or 3 in defensive field goal efficiency.
Best defensive team in NBA history
Gary Thompson you’re a joke, they had like 7-10 games in a row that they kept the opener under 70... UNDER 70
Tf you talking about. They played against a lakers team stack with HOF in the finals....
Imagine this Pistons team vs the 96 Bulls.
fax
Gary Thompson MORON
Ben Wallace could've won the Defensive Player of The Year with just this game in today's NBA
Facts
😆
No, a lot of offensive foul will be considered as charging
This is BEAUTIFUL basketball. I'm 15 and I never heard about how amazing this team was, this is honestly the greatest defense I've seen and most selfless flowing offense as well.

i have this game game on vhs and i show my friends all the time . this was the greatest defensive game ever by far .
I graduated from high school this year! The Pistons winning the championship that year with nothing but pure defense made it so much better! Great year!
And now your 21, with a son
Their defense was suffocating 😭
That Pistons team is one of my favourite team of all time
My favorite team of all-time! Seriously!
How do you comment everywhere? Like how?
Mine too.
Mine too. No point 1st quarters.80 point games. I love that effin team.
I miss these guys so much.
I remember they had a thing where they would try to hold teams UNDER 70 PTS!
They didn’t try they actually did it
Damn I tried to hold this comment under 70 likes, look like it didn’t work out
@@bigdog638, GOLD! LMAO!
But, yeah, I miss when the league had tough teams that actually played defense. Now the NBA is a 3-point shooting contest.
13 times and the regular season and 4 times in the playoffs
This Pistons team was the Greatest Defensive Team of the 2000s! Bar None! The 2008 Celtics team comes after! Ben Wallace was the heart of this team's defense but Tyshaun Prince was so underrated! He also did the same thing to D-Wade. Critics didn't give the Piston team their dues because they played for the city of Detroit.
You cannot take absolutely anything away from these pistons.. They beat kobe and shaq the best modern era basketball team. Heart+defense+ hustle= Detroit 2004-2006
Yes
Is there a love button
seriously
Too bad this ain't Facebook.
that defense is godly
The art of defense performed by The Wild Detroit Pistons
+Gilbert Quirven Here we are witnessing a herd of Wild Pistons in their natural habitat.
+Gilbert Quirven nowadays referees kills defence. Every touch is call as a foul...
+Maciej Maciejewski Right! And even more if it's SC30 or LJ23
+salman sufi My! What a team! When will we see something like this again?
We probably never see another team like this ever.
Greatest defense of all time and who knew no superstar😢
damn....Detroit had the reign of Terror down there back in the days....it's brutal but so fun to watch
This is how champions are won. Now teams just want to stack on talent and get the easy win. LAZY players. Score 50 but let me see them play a FULL 48 MINUTES of hard nosed defense. No matter what players you have, if everyone is on the same page on defense, you'll win.

JR The GOAT Smith don’t forgot about “Big Nasty!” Williamson
Tell that to Utah .

Zero advertisements on the floor and jerseys. Good teamwork and defense. Ahhh I miss the good ole days
They didn’t care who was scoring. Never seen a team so together ever. On their game, no team in history can beat that defense.
The 2004 pistons played like how I play nba 2k
Ricky X Ya if you turn the sliders down lmao
This team was such a beast team !!! 🏀💯
My TEAM!!! Look at that defense. Especially from 2:48 to 3:05. THAT'S what we're lacking now. I loved this team.
Video gives me chills every time. The passion and energy of this team was just bar none. Also, no one worked harder on the court than Ben Wallace. You weren't going to out hustle him.
4:07 Best Move of Ben's Career
+cdfm64 Ben Walla-juwon.
My favorite team of all time.
Miss this NBA so much. The physicality, the intensity, clamps. Nowadays you can't touch nobody and it's a glorified 3 point shooting contest
Favorite team ever, they play like real men.
The 04 Pistons might be the greatest basketball team in history
This is real man’s basketball. Not the fairies today scoring 150 a game.
This team was so amazing and fun to watch as well. One of the best defensive teams I have ever seen. They were very tough to beat
You don't see NBA basketball like this anymore.
One of the greatest teams ever, epic epic team defense...
Between these Pistons and the "Bad Boy" Piston that city had easily two of the greatest defensive teams ever and agrubaly two of the greatest teams ever
.
The TEAM that Changed the RULES of game because of their GREAT DEFENSE!!!
I remember watching this game live when I was only 14 years old...that was the best team defense in ALL of sports history!
Hard to argue I mean these boys would shut you dowm to the point to users lucky to get 80 that's how dominant they were
Before anyone says 'Whatever, it was Milwaukee' the Bucks were #4 in PPG scoring that year.
And the East was so tightly clumped that the Bucks were 1 game from #4 and a better matchup,.
That crowd was crazy that year!
2004 pistons were so ahead of their time they still till this day hold alot of nba defensive playoff records
Grew up listening to George Blaha do Piston’s games… He was the best!!
Dang this game was on UPN. The feels.
If they won another chip, the Pistons from 2002-2008 would be listed as one of the greatest teams ever. I loved this group of guys. Larry Brown broke my heart when he left
There should be a link to this video in the basketball dictionary under the definition for "swarming defense"
OMG
Greatest defensive team ever
Miss this fucking team so much! The defense was unreal!
I LOVED watching these Pistons.
this is REAL basketball, not James Harden's freethrow
It saddens me to see what the NBA has become..
Exactly, who would be the frontrunners of the league if this type of physical defense was played. I love watching this era of nba as a kid. Now it hard to watch this all the new rules in play for a finesse type of game. it is definitely not the man sport it used to be
westbrook and lebron would still feast in this kind of league
Neel Moudgil Lebron already did for a couple of years. The 2004-2005 suns ruined the league. They saw people were tuning in more to watch the suns play and they figured the revenue would increase if more teams played that way. So they changed the rules to favor the offensive player
I forgot how much energy Big Ben could give to the Palace in a matter of seconds
They were like the basketball version of the 2000 Ravens
Good comparison
Holy fuck, they straight had these niggas locked up in prison. Even though I hated the Pistons as a Heat fan, I respected the hell out of those guys.
"DEEEEEETTTTROOOOOIT BASKEEEEEETBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL!!!!"
LET'S Go HEAT!!!!!
Kevin Bertalotto Best chant in the league, Kevin. Best chant.
+Kevin Surur Nah
This pistons squad syncd so well together
Yesterdays twolves nuggets game was the best team defensive performance i ever seen since THIS GAME!!!!
I want to see 2017 GSW hop on a time machine, go back to 2004, and play a 7-game series against the 2004 pistons.
Ben Wallace is top 5 centers all time imo dude was just a monster down in the paint 😦🔥
I'm from Houston but this was one of my favorite teams of all time. Nothing but Dogs. BigBen, Sheed, Billups, Prince, and Rip.
Ben wallace look like a monster in court
I was at this game when I was 5 and my dad and I were in the Palace when they won that third title. My favorite team of ALL TIME!! They made me love basketball and were like superheroes to me living in Michigan as a kid
This Pistons team along with the ‘08 Celtics team were so good defensively.
Damn i miss this team so much damn heart from each one of them
Yeaa...
I see REAL BAD BOYS PISTONS from 2004 i click

That team was like a legit Wolfpack
This is some DAMN good defense!!! All 5 players on the floor played defense, unlike today where most teams have 1 or 2 good perimeter defenders and/ or a good shot blocker down low.
everyone on this pistons squad had the clamps
Hunter and Mike James were pitbulls defensively. They complimented this team well on that second unit.
Rasheed Wallace is the best type of teammate to play with but the worst to play against 😂
2004 pistons were hungry!!!
Damn, I wish Laimbeer still did commentary.
beautiful basketball, team cohesion is just levels above
So many ballers on this team. They were 10 players deep.
This team is why I think these new players are slightly overrated. The kind of defense the NBA allowed in the late 90's mid 2000's is REAL defense. Hand checking allowed. 04 Pistons possibly the best defensive team of all time. This team could break your heart and your spirit.
Good old days, now that's basketbal, I've been a Celtics fan all my life, but this Piston team was unbelievably fun to watch
Wish the Warriors would play these Pistons. They'd get punked
lmfao nope.
Jacob Kim they would fold
Maybe in 2004, but today’s game is a whole different scenario..
KennyD blown out like the Spurs did them a few years ago and they had to intentionally injure Kawhi
Easily if were playing in 2004.

This team idc what anyone says, was so fun to watch. Like it made you, the fan so appreciative of a team playing defense. You don’t see that, ever! Except with this one and only team!!!
Simply the championship team that while not having a superstar offensive player had a superior defense that never gave a possession off. Go pistons
Everyone on the bench is hyped up and standing, the atmosphere is like a high school game.
Why do I love Pistons?
BEST DEFENSIVE TEAM IN SPORTS HISTORY !
04' pistons big baby bubba!! 1 of... if not thee best all around team to ever get out there on the floor. Dem boyz was sum beasts!!!
Best video I have ever seen.
I'm hoping the current bucks team looks at what this team did and becomes more defense oriented. They could dominate the league in a few years imo
03-04 piston was better than 04-05, look at that defense man....
AWESOME GAME! They came to have some fun That night. So did the fans.
2:27 is perfect team defense and what the pistons did better than any other team in history. They ride you just to the point they won't get called for a foul and then someone helps out and gets a steal.
This team beats EVERYONE I don't care who
Pack of dogs. The no fly zone. Love this team
greatest defensive team ever... rare upload, keep it up!
I would kill to see this type of bball in Detroit again.
Definition of team defense
Wow !
They grabbed the Lakers by the collar and never let go . Absolute defensive brutality.
Bruhhh their close outs and coverage man. Defense juggernauts
they don't teach this kind of defense anymore
No, the NBA just changed their rules to prevent it.
when you go against a team of lockdowns in 2k
Yeah everyone know that the pistons have the best defense in nba history, this team or the bad boys team were scary
I wonder how many points will Brooklyn nets score under this type of defense
That defense Is flat out flies on shit
They were a pack of lions🦁!!! Confidence on Borge ends through the roof, they were straight having fun out there hustling!
