    I love Nightwish because you never know what you are going to get. Also the music goes right to my soul. No matter what is going on in your life when you listen to Nightwish they make everything alright. Another reason is that in their interviews and how they are on stage it is all about the fans. Tuomas(the keyboardest and composer) firmly believes that the fans deserve the best that they can give. When you play a song that is at the end of a concert you will see Tuomas clapping. That is for the fans.
    The music and how it is presented is so beautiful. Tuomas is a real genius to me. They now have over 100 songs and a new album coming out next year (I can't wait!!!! ) and he has composed and written the lyrics to 95% of the songs. There is not one song that I would turn off. Sure there are some songs that are better than others. I hope you get to feel what us die hard fans feel. :-)

    I'm into heavy metal, I've always been into heavy metal. My son actually introduced me to Nightwish. Each song tells a story, much like the old Viking and Celtic stories and songs. Its music that reaches your soul. Not to mention Floor has an amazing voice. Floor being from the Netherlands and the rest being from Finland you get that Viking feel.

    That is what in musical terms is called a glissando (a continuous slide upward or downward between two notes). Three entire octaves (36 half steps) from D3 to D6 on the piano scale.It is very difficult to do smoothly. Singers transition from their chest voice through a mix point where they change over into a head voice. Unbelievably difficult to do without your voice cracking or dropping out at the change over point. And to do it with such power all the way up is very rare. Marco cannot keep up and he stops at the top of his range. Floor truly is an incredible talented vocalist.

    In a crowd of 82,000 people, no matter where the camera points, they're SINGING ALONG. They KNOW the songs. I only WISH they were that popular here in the States.

    Why do I like Nightwish? Because they are so great musicians.... the songs are never boring.... and have a story... all of them are great singers - with total different voices.... the special effects are exactly pointed... the atmosphere is soooo great.... if you ever had been part of the audience you will never forget....

    What I like the most with nightwish is the fact that the entire band love their fans even more than the fans love them😁 They dont enter that stage just for money like so many artists do. They enter it to please the fans and does everything they can to make everything perfect for us😄👍

    The first song what I heard from them was or Wish I had an angel or Ghost love score, I don't remember. I was 13,now I'm 26. Still love them,with full of my heart. Each CD is a different story from Tuomas (keyboardist,composer) mind. When I was 13 I didn't understand the lyrics,but I still felt the story of the songs. I was crying not once,because of the pleasure of the music. Unfortunately I was not there in Germany. But after 10 years finally I had a chance to go to their show,and it was fenomenal. Never forget it. They are very professional,but I didn't feel the "plastic" at their show. They are all amazing ,but Tuomas is the mind of the band,he always find the way to my soul,and that's why I love them so much.

    I wasn't at THAT show, but I saw them live in Kalamazoo, Mi, in March of 2018. It was epic. Although the theater was small, maybe 2-3000 max....maybe, they still put on a killer show, and they really do sound this good live.

  • @daeny1982

    For me, Nightwish is really my band. I was at a show 2008, pregnant with my little daughter. And last year, me and my daughter, still 10 years old, we were together at a nightwish-show and she loves it. Okay, she was wearing noise protection, but it was absolutly great.
    The story, with the open letter goes really deep for nightwish fans. They fired their first singer Tarja Turunen 2005 with an open letter. If you want to go to the beginnings of the band, search for songs with Tarja, maybe "Phantom of the Opera" or "I wish i had an angel" or my favourite "Slaying the Dreamer", I love Marcos screaming in that song.
    I thought you asked for the flaming head: The Show was at Wacken, its the most popular metal festival in europe ... maybe in the world? At this show 80.000 people were watching.

  • @HiTekCowboy
    @HiTekCowboy 5 лет назад +4

    I think the band does a great job of exuding passion to their fans and it's reciprocated in turn. It's been that way for me since Tarja. I credit a lot of the emotion to Toumas. His compositions with the band's unbelievable/exceptional technical skills and singing of both Marco and Floor... it's honestly hard not to get emotional to their songs. The songs are really poems told through music and some like Poet and Pendulum, Greatest Show on Earth, and Ghost Love Score are simply epic poems.

    The sausage story..... He was just giving a goofy introduction to the song's name, as in, how to kill romance. It's their anniversary, and his wife spent all day in the kitchen making a fabulous dinner of coq au vin, but he tells her he'd rather go out to have some German sausage for supper. That's romanticide! :D

      @sugoruyo 5 лет назад +1

      Emppu has said in interviews that as they get older and mature as musicians they feel like big solos don't have much of a place in most of their songs and if a solo doesn't serve the song and the story it tells/emotion it conveys they just won't put one in there. It's about making a song that speaks to people not showing off.

    Since you are getting requests for Poet and the Pendulum and I think the backstory is quite important for that, here is my take on it:
    Nightwish came to life when shortly after their foundation the singer Tarja Turunen joined the band, a childhood friend from Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboarder and main composer of the band. They achieved some greatness together but there were mounting tensions within the band around Tarjas pursuit of a solo career and a certain dislike of her newly aquired husband and manager.
    This led to the band firing Tarja with an open letter right after the "End of an Era" concert in Helsinki. There is a DVD of that concert and I suggest you watch the last song and what goes on with the band members after that last song: :ruclips.net/video/Xp7Bc00NTNg/видео.html
    Bring that mindset plus some quite negative reactions from the fans into play and you can see part of why Tuomas went into a pretty deep depression. In this state of mind he wrote the song "The Poet and the Pendulum" based on Edgar Allen Poes novel The Pit and the Pendulum, where a sharp blade slowly descends on a prisoner. The song deals with the pressure to write new songs, feelings of betrayal, despair and anger and the longing for death, but also with the unconditional love from his parents. After coming to a quite dramatic end, the song also offers a new beginning at the end.
    The song initially should be the namegiver to the new album but eventually the band settled on "Dark Passion Play", where it's on you whether to connect the first two words or the last.
    Remarkably the album was written without a specific singer in mind, in fact there is a demo version, where Marco sings all of the songs. The band then engaged Anette Olzon who performed the published version of the album and the next one "Imaginaerum". Unfortunately Anettes live performances were often overshadowed by lesser or greater illnesses and troubles with her voice. So it really took the change to their last singer, Floor Jansen, to bring the Poet and the Pendulum to the perfection it deserved when they performed it in the London Wembley Arena in December 2015.
    This version with lyrics you can find here: ruclips.net/video/iEzZRMthhXU/видео.html. This is one of the rare Nightwish songs where you will either need to stop it several times or alternatively when it gets blocked to request to unblock it. Either of these methods have worked for many reactors already, so it should work for you, too :-)
    Have fun!

    • @weibsvolken7150
      @weibsvolken7150 5 лет назад +1

      @@stephenchigwidden7504 Sorry for the non working link. This one works for now: ruclips.net/video/Xp7Bc00NTNg/видео.html It's "I wish I had an angel", arguably the first song that brought them international recognition. A bit less operatic than their first works and so maybe easier on the ears of radio listeners. So I assume it was chosen deliberately as the last song with Tarja. You may also notice that they had a text "and this is it" on the big screen. Although the open letter was only published after the concert, you see many fans crying, so maybe they at least had an idea what was going on.

When I discovered Floor was singing with them for 5 a 6 years I immediately bought me a ticket to see them. It was awesome to hear Floor talk to us in a southern dutch dialect, because I am from the south of the Netherlands too. 😎👍 She even shared some wine with Tuomas mid concert to celebrate playing in a bigger venue in her homecountry, And Tuomas whipped out a red wine Glass and filled it for Floor and even a little refill and drank out of the bottle herself as he always does 😁

    Now you should try another style in the Nightwish colection.
    Something epic, emotional...something that makes you feel like you are watching a play.
    "The Poet and The Pendulum" live at Wembley.
    This one requires you to check the story behind the song so you can really understand what's going on.
    Tuomas wrote that song after they fired Tarja, their first singer.
    She and Tuomas were friends since they were kids and the fans loved Tarja.
    Tuomas had to face the angry fans and critics from the press and that lead him to depression and suicidal thoughts.
    Tuomas said that wrighting "The Poet and The Pendulum" worked like therapy and probably saved his live.
    He kills himself in the song to avoid doing it in real life.
    My favorite Nightwish song, for sure the most emotional one and it looks like you are watching a play, you can really feel the emotion.

    I jumped the gun and gave this a thumbs up as I think that I cannot go wrong with you two & Nightwish. Here's something quite different, but still amazing from Finland: Wintersun - Time (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER ruclips.net/video/4UMwLxFNKS0/видео.html P.S. The drummer in this Wintersun performance is Kai Hahto, who just last week became the official drummer for Nightwish having been their touring drummer for several years because Jukka "The Pirate" Nevalainen suffers from insomnia. I've been a Nightwish fan from when they started in 1996, but now that they have both Floor Jansen & Troy Donockley they are on a much higher level IMHO. I like the complexity & versatility of their music, poetic and meaningful lyrics and Floor's & Marco's amazing vocals.

      @Ťørɱȩṇ Me too, whenever I see someone new reacting to Nightwish, I always (well not always, cause I didnt this time :D ) write a comment to always go for DVD in the name or go for official videos. But it seems like Romanticide suffers much more than other songs from this... Does the blu-ray uploads have more views than official video on NW channel or why so many people choose them?

    • @matejpohanka1719
      @matejpohanka1719 5 лет назад

      But I do not follow any of these reaction channels, so I can only write the comment after they upload NW video :(

    Oh guys, I really want you to react to
    1) Tarot: Tides, if you want to hear more Marco. Tarot is the name of the band, he founded with hith brother in the 80ies. Or "Wings of Darkness" ... or "Pyre of God"?
    2) If you want to hear german bands: Blind Guardian, "Mirror, Mirror", "Valhalla" and "The bards song" :)

    • @daeny1982
      @daeny1982 5 лет назад

      Blind Guardian was my first contact to metal ... Was around 2002 ... I think. Hansi Küsch may not have floors stage presence, but his voice is absolutly great. He sounds a little bit like marco.
      If you wand to see marco and hansi performing together, please check out "Ayreon - River of Time" and "Age of Shadows". floor also takes part of the show. It's more like a metal opera or something like that.

    I wasn't at THIS show, but I've seen them so many times over the years. I've even taken my little boy with me for a couple of them :) I've had the pleasure of meeting the band several times, and met Floor once outside of that at an Iced Earth/Sabaton/ReVamp show.
    I love music that takes me away. Nightwish and Blind Guardian are my absolute top for this. Seeing them live is practically a religious experience.

    Well next has to be I Want My Tears Back (ruclips.net/video/ga-hR7CYbwQ/видео.html) for the Celtic sound and bagpipes dueling the guitar!! If you want the same sound as an instrumental song then Last of the Wilds (ruclips.net/video/TVLZppHLWF4/видео.html) a/k/a Floor's changing song where she goes from Xena Warrior in leather pants to Valkyrie Goddess in leather miniskirt, I am sure you will like either Folk Metal song !!!!

    You've been deluged by recommendations from "the Jansen Army", so I need to counter by arguing that Nightwish's golden era ended when they lost Tarja (their original singer). Going against the grain (of even the Tarjaholic sect), I recommend you check out anything from the Oceanborn and Wishmaster albums as your entry into classic Nightwish.

    Great job guys! Here's another lane that Nightwish takes. Here's a clip of them doing a cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from Floyd's Division Bell album. This is when Annette was the lead singer but she is on a break. Marco handles the lead vocals on this one. Very awesome version. Very few bands can pull off a credible cover of Floyd. IMHO, they knock this one out of the park. They make it their own without making it unrecognizable. Give it a try. I'd love your take on it.

    If you wanna do the poet and the pendulum you should know something about the backstory of this song:
    The Poet and the Pendulum here are some scources.
    First of all the Open Letter to Tarja.Tarja's open letter (why tarja was kicked from nightwish) ruclips.net/video/rbkpMgqq8pU/видео.html
    Interview Nightwish - Tuomas Holopainen (part 1) at around 1:50min Tuomas explained a bit to that: ruclips.net/video/pPDNEIt4d7U/видео.html
    Nightwish interview - Tuomas Holopainen (part 1) at 10:00min ruclips.net/video/v65-ErfUyVM/видео.html
    Here he stated:
    Cathartic is a good way of putting it. The ultimate example being is The Poet and the Pendulum a song where i literally kill myself in the song so that i wouldnt have to do it in real life.
