Floor and Simone are friends, I saw Epica in the Netherlands and met Floor in the crowd, now that, that is f**king amazing. Both bands are simply amazing. Epica Unleashed, Consign to Oblivion, Design your Universe and Cry for the Moon are among my favorites, obviously live and this gigs videos, the Retrospect, is a solid place to find them.

Epica is Dutch btw. The guy who yelled at the end, Mark Jansen (no relation), was in After Forever with Floor until 2002. Some kind of artistic dispute lead him to leave and form Epica.

This was from Epica's 10th anniversary concert "Retrospect". If you like it you should watch (after you've done all the reactions you want to do) the dvd from this 3 hour long performance. With the choir, rope dansers, guest singer Floor and some songs that focus on the orchestra (like Star Wars Imperial March) it's one hell of a concert. Knowing she was pregnant and how long this show was Simone was just amazing.
The founder of Epica is Mark Jansen(no relationship to Floor) and who was also the founder of After Forever and recruited Floor when she was 16.

Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal[1] band, founded by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen after his departure from After Forever.

Epica's fifth studio album Requiem for the Indifferent was released in 2012. Well received by critics, it achieved international success, entering the US's Billboard 200 at No. 104, and Japan's Oricon Albums Chart at No. 172.[15]

Epica was founded in 2002 by mark jansen (guitarist and vocalist) who was a member of floor s first band, After Forever. After Forever was founded in 1997 and disbanded in 2009. So, after mark jansen was sacked from After Forever he founded Epica. Simone and Floor are both Dutch. They are probably the most succesful female vocalists of Netherlands.
Ok, let's talk avout Epica (as you asked). It was founded by Mark Jansen (guitar, growls) after he left his first band After Forever (in which he was with Floor!!!). Simone, at the time, was 17 and was hesitant to join the band, but she did anyways (it was back in 2002-2003) and they went from there. Simone was also a mezzo-soprano at the time, so her voice was lower and richer, compared to nowadays where it's light, soft and airy (lyrical soprano). Epica is also a symphonic metal band, but their sound is way heavier than Nightwish, most of the time, as they have influences from death metal. They incorporate beautiful vocals (Simone) with harsh vocals (Mark), and their lyrics are quite philosophical and political in nature.
If you want to dabble into Epica, I recommend: Consign to Oblivion (live at the Zénith 2014), The Essence of Silence, Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect live 2013, so this show, which was their 10 year anniversary), Unchain Utopia,, Once Upon a Nightmare (beautiful song about the tale of the Erlkönig) Beyond the Matrix (if you want something uplifting, catchy and very Epica), Kingdom of Heaven (the new remastered version has a lyrics video on their official channel, a true masterpiece of progressive symphonic metal), and many, many more. I discovered symphonic metal through Nightwish, but Epica has become my favourite band over the years, but I still love Nightwish to bits and cried when I finally was able to see them live for the first time. So awesome.
I think of symphonic metal like a big great family, because a lot of the bands and artists of the genre feature in other bands and they all support each other and it's amazing. I don't think I've come across another genre of music where everyone is so supportive of each other, honestly. Of course, there are some bad things that happen, but nothing in this world is ever perfect.
For Nightwish you move to Finland, for Epica AND Floor Jansen you'll have to move to The Netherlands: they are Dutch!!

Yeah, but in Finland, they play this stuff on the radio. Beste Zangers made it clear that artists like Floor--and so I can assume Simone and Epica--are virtually unknown in their own country despite having sold millions of albums worldwide. Besides, since Night Wish is a Finnish band, and Stan said that Floor and Simone were friends for a long time, Brian naturally assumed they were both Finns, even though neither are.
Move to Finnland? That show was in "Het Klokgebouw", Eindhoven, The Netherlands. A Former Philips-building. Philips lighting and stuff was based since there beginning in Eindhoven. The show was a whole evening with a full orchestra. Epic...
Eindhoven is also famous from the Dynamo Open Air festivals in the past and metal-capitol of The Netherlands. And because that's like 15 miles from my place and i was lucky to be at most of that festivals:). At most there were 120.000 visitors, 20.000 people and 100.000 Germans...

You can't go wrong with anything symphonic metal. I love Within Temptation, too. Sharon has a gorgeous voice and is super nice to her fans. Self taught, too. Something like, she was accepted into music conservatory but didn't like it, so she went fashion design. Her dresses are always gorgeous. There was one performance of Mother Earth where she looked like an old school Norse princess :)

Simone is married to Oliver the keyboard player for Kamelot. Kamelot has had 2 singers, Roy Khan and Tommy Karivek. Roy had to step down because he was drained physically and vocally. Tommy senpai came in and he's damn awesome. Kamelot touring North America in a couple of weeks.

well, really only floor was full on dutch windmilling, also Simone was pretty damn pregnant, why she was more chill than normal for this show, they were/are friends, Floor and Simone were roommates for a bit. And I love these two together, along with the live symphony and choir, it is unreal in how amazing it is. Plus anyone my age or older, 35 here, in the US, will know, that the Epica band is straight up head bangers ball, if you aren't old enough, look that up, was insane and so good, back when that was still featured on TV, haha.

Yeah, they both could be cast as Disney princesses any day of the week. Floor masters many styles and flavors but I think my favourite of hers is her sweet 'Disney' sound that possibly comes from majoring in musical theatre. If only Nightwish could make a cover of 'Colors of the Wind' from Pocahontas...

This song is just one of those perfect combinations of writing lyrics, music composition, arrangement, instrumentation and, the pièce de résistance, the duet performance of Floor and Sumone, where everything just clicks, all the parts fit, nothing is awkward, the whole song is just a beautiful masterpiece work of art.
Funniest moment when Stan said during the slow, sweet part of the song how this would be good for a Disney movie, and then it got really heavy. Disney probably would prefer something lighter.
