    Great series! Watched all the episodes. One question - out of the 6 possible sources, what all did you connect to the amp? And how did you get all the sources to reach the closet?

    Awesome! So helpful! Working on mine. Tried using a 10 zone splitter. That was a disaster. Waiting on my Soundavo amp now. Should be shipped around the 15th. Thanks for knowledge and the discount. A lot of work put into that for us. It's one thing to do the install but whole other dimension recording it and creating content. Appreciate you and your family! Coffee on the way!

      Thanks again for the coffee, I really appreciate it. Yeah, i know the holidays really bumped the Soundavo stock supply down (good for them!) I think they should no longer have low supply after the 15th. Yeah the filming and editing slowed the project down a lot, but it's the people who watch my videos that keep me going. I get a lot of positive comments and it feels good to produce good content that help people and those that enjoy it! It also made me realize if you take a large project and just break it down into small manageable pieces at a time, it makes it easier as well. As long as your wife doesn't nag you to get it finished!!! We all know they will do that :)

      KMZ1 great channel, been following with interest as we are building now and just about to prewire.
      Appreciate the duscount code, looks like soundavo jacked up the speaker price by $80 to $299 for the 8inch.
      When you showed off the 3 speakers in the great room and entrance, were they left, right and stereo. Or were they all stereo speakers.
      Hi Robert,
      Are you able to shed a bit more light why the 10 zone splitter was a disaster?
      If you get a device with volume impedence matching it should be workable..... restaurants typically have this setup with a stereo receiver.

      @@gilfernandes83 Thanks for watching, regarding the 8 inch Soundavo speakers, if you use code TKMZ15 you'll get the 15% off. The 3 speakers in my bathroom, as well as the great room, the way that is wired is there is only 2 main speaker cables going back to the amp, and that is 1 branch for the left side and 1 for the right side. Then, I paralleled off the 3rd speaker off of 1 of the sides, so that means yes 1 channel (left or right) has an extra speaker. However, you can't tell any listening difference, in other words it does not sound weird or unnatural. Check out this video I did on the topic ruclips.net/video/dVjiZeCCnqA/видео.html

      @@gilfernandes83 Sure Gil, that is the exact splitter I was using. I watched every video I could find. I tried using it with 3 different amps 2 denon and a Yamaha. I followed the setup exactly as instructed to make sure impedence was matched properly. Each speaker was setup individually (direct wired, not parallel or series coupled) Connected all to ceiling speakers.( I have so many brands I keep buying. Soundavo, Niles, episode. )I could never get a clean sound and anything over 60db would cause the amp to shutdown. I tried running only 1 zone at a time and disconnected all others. I tried different amps and even purchased a 2nd switch to see if that was the problem. When I finally removed the switch and hooked up speakers directly it was such a huge difference. The sound was fuller, punchier and did not feel suppressed. I gave up on that path and realized I should have just purchased one of the soundavo amps. I really thought I could save money the other way. Kadin kept showing up in my feed and I saw that great discount. I'm in a new home and having total control over each zone from my phone is what sold me. My wife is particular about asthetics and obtrusive volume levels. Can't wait for the amp. I did also purchase the ic 640cf speakers. LOVE those.

    Hey mate, great job as usual. I have two quick questions that i really hope you can help me with.
    1. If a zone is left on at the keypad with the volume about medium and nothing is playing through it do the speakers let out a noticeable hum or buzz? Or is it just as if it was off?
    2. Are you able to PLEASE Wire up a 12v power supply to the PA trigger input and connect a source to the PA input source 1. When the PA is triggered does it automatically switch all the zones on even though they may be off at the wall keypad?

    My one problem is on the back of the WS66i where do you plug in all of the audio inputs? I have been testing through the PA system but and finally ready to connect up my 6 sources and am confused.
    I ran rg6 wires (two each; red and white) to all my TVs and the user manual isn’t clear how to plug these in.
    Appreciate any help. I will continue to trouble shoot in meantime.
    Thanks!!

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  Год назад

      For the audio inputs on the WS66i you have 2 RCA inputs, and 2 3.5mm inputs or 1 of those can optionally be a digital optical cable, but you can't use both the 3.5mm and the optical cable at the same time. Those are 4 inputs on the back... the other 2 inputs are either A) the 2 USB inputs on the front OR the wireless 2 inputs which are reserved for wireless streaming. Or you can have 1 wireless streamer and use 1 of the usb inputs as well. But you can't use the USB inputs on the front and the wireless streaming at the same time either.

    How is the TV connected to the receiver?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  2 года назад

      The TV can connect a few different ways. You can use an Optical cable, or you can run RCA analog (red/white) cables to the TV if you tv supports that. If not, you can also use various converters to convert the RCA back to digital at the TV end. An optical cable can only go a max of about 100 ft.

    • @sagetx
      @sagetx 3 года назад

      I know of three ways.
      1. in one of his first videos (before soundavo - search for monoprice) he showed how to run a L/R rca jack cable. Using basic TV RG6 coax cable (1 cable power channel) and rca jack ends you can run cable direct from audio out of the TV to your receiver.
      2. I used cat6 cable and a powered optical audio over cat5/6 converter box because my new LG doesn't have basic l/r audio jacks AND I already pre wired extra cat6 to the TV.
      3. If you have Bluetooth out as an option on the TV, you can get a BT receiver for audio that sets up next to your Whole Home Audio receiver. Bonus points here as your can pair your phone /laptop /pc to stream over BT as well.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад +1

      Hey Rick, I've never found the insulation to bother the speaker one way or the other. Online there's many forums asking if it will hurt, at the end of the day there are these shower cap looking things you can stretch over the back of the speaker and it would keep the insulation from touching the speaker if you want that. Any enclosed speaker will sound better than not enclosed, in my house above that huge living room those are fully enclosed. The rest are open back. You can also build a box around it if you want. Regarding #2, I'm sure it is compressed more to some degree, I'm not sure to what though. At the end of the day if someone loves audio that much to where they are fully aware of the compression and quality that they lose (which is awesome when we are that technical :) ) my recommendation would be to definitely not use the wireless streaming and use one of the RCA or digital inputs. And then use a music service that has the higher quality like Tidal or Amazon music HD

    First of all thanks for putting together this series. Very informative. I wanted to know if you or anyone has connected any Raspberry Pi’s with a DAC HAT to the WS66i as a source endpoint for Roon? If so, how did you connect everything? if you connected multiple Raspberry Pi’s as sources were you able to hear those multiple sources of Raspberry Pi’s on different zones?

    • @tanmaywho
      @tanmaywho 2 года назад

      Yes easily, just buy some pi 3a's, slap a dac hat and make it into a roon end point, Just have to connect different pi's output on your specific zone input in the zone controller/amp.
      I too tested this with 3 pi's and it all worked great but I would be super nice if only a single pi can do all the controller stuff(like a pi 4) and I just have to connect how many usb dacs I want to the pi and connect the dac to amp. This would simply the process and down the cost, but I have yet to find some open source multi zone controller software which is made for Raspberry pi and I wish I to build one if it not exists, maybe someday.

    • @TheKMZ1

      The kit package comes with everything you need. The keypads, the ethernet hub where the keypads all connect etc. So you dont have to worry about buying separately. You do have to provide your own speakers, speaker wire, and ethernet wire but that is about all. Yes each keypad connects in the keypad hub, and 1 ethernet wire goes from the hub to the amplifier. You provide all your own ethernet cable. There will not be any black friday sales, Soundavo is investing more into their amps and creating new models, so they do not have plans that I am aware of. Use the coupon code TKMZ and you will get 15% off the WS66i amp only or the KIT package.

      Oh ok perfect. Well, the WS66i has what are called "pre-amp outputs" on the back. I made a vide about that here: ruclips.net/video/dVjiZeCCnqA/видео.html and I think you'll really find it helpful! I demonstrate and talk about how you could have a theater amp hooked up exactly like you are describing. Basically, pre amp outs pass the source data like volume, EQ, etc through to another amplifier. And you hook your speakers into the other external amp...in your case your speakers for that zone (your home theater zone) are hooked up and powered by the whole home amp. But, you plug the pre-amp outsputs into an input of your home theater amp. When your home theater amp is tuned to that source, your wall keypad and everything will still control it since it's passing the source data, volume, eq etc into the home theater amp. Yes, this does mean you need your home theater amp on all the time and it would be tuned to that source 90% of the time. When it is TV or Movie time, you would switch your source to like the HDMI tv source or whatever source has the movie audio. Hopefully this makes sense and hopefully that video helps!

    @TheKMZ1 What do you think of 70 volt commercial speaker systems vs multizone home systems for home use?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      For a home use, I'd usually go the WS66i in my opinion. It is the most expensive yes, but it is the most versatile. Unless you have a specific need for the sources to not share across zones, or you would only use the BUS input source for all the zones. What is your specific use case for the 70v versus the multi zone?

    • @jonathankeenan80

      @@TheKMZ1 I noticed 70 volt systems have more flexibility in terms of inputs for like for paging and muting of music and such. Features that resident amps don't have. I was thinking of having a phone system plugged into the amplifier in the future.

    How would you add a tv for a source? Like a bedroom tv fo surround sound? Is it on the amplifier or a keypad or?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад +1

      So, this amplifier is not for surround sound, if you want that you will need to use a surround sound amp. But, you can integrate a surround sound amp into being one of your zones on your WS66i, by using the pre-amp outputs. See my video here ruclips.net/video/dVjiZeCCnqA/видео.html

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад +1

      But, with that said, if you just want your TV to come through the ceiling speakers, these amps have RCA inputs, a 3.5mm input and a digital optical cable input. So as long as you can get your TV signal into any of these inputs you can easily get your TV to come through as a source. But if you want true surround sound you'll want to use a surround sound amp. But I have had TV come through mine and it works great, but I know it's not "surround sound" and i was ok with that because i wasn't looking for true surround sound in my case

    Nice work. So hooking up the Echo to it give you 1 other source and voice control? If so, I assume you have to be in the same room for the voice control to work? How is this better than the Monoprice amps if you still have to have an echo connected to it?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      You don't have to be in the same room no. At the end of this video i talk about how you add your alexas into a group within the alexa app, and then you set the preferred speaker to the one that is plugged into the amp. And then no matter what alexa you talk into, it will output the audio through the preferred one. This is just one way to use an alexa as a source, the Soundavo still has 2 built in wireless sources so that is how it's still better than monoprice in my opinion. And the company is actually investing more money into it to make it even better.

    Really helpful videos! How would you go about getting audio from a TV to the speakers in that room? Just a line out and in as a new source? Also is 6 the max number of sources ie if you had 2 units could you then use 12 sources? And how goes that work with the keypads ? Thanks keep the content coming 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 года назад

      Hey Daniel, getting audio from a tv would be just running an audio cable from the tv, and into the back of the amp as a source. So depending on your TV you could do a long optical cable up to 100ft max like this amzn.to/3qQd8sA or you could make custom RCA cables out of RG6 cable and it would be an RCA source. Doing that way you can get longer than 100ft. If your TV doesn't have RCA audio OUT you could use a converter to cover analog to digital optical cable! If you hook 2 units up together it shares the 6 sources so your units become either 12 zones 6 sources and if you hook up a 3rd it would be 18 zones 6 sources. I suppose technically you could just use them as separate amps but then your 1st 6 zones and 2nd 6 zones would never share sources

      It does not get very hot, I used to have one in my old house in a cabinet with no ventilation. These units don't have any fans built in because they don't get that hot. It would be warm in the cabinet but for over 3 years it was on 24/7 and never had an issue. We sold that house, I would say you would be fine. Obviously ventilation is better than not having it, but sometimes you have to work with what you have
