Hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for another full build due Saturday!
I was curious about the decals... :) You ended up with a stunning model, excellent! :)
Thank you very much! I love your channel :)
Lovely little build, I had the same issue with the decals & found using very warm water helped a lot to soften them as well as a lot of micro sol. 👏🇬🇧
Thanks man, I did see that method online, but unfortunately I had already put the decals on :( But thanks anyway!
You did an awesome job on the decals! It took me two kits to achieve that!! Bravo!!😁🇬🇧
:) They were very tricky, thanks!
Great work , superb aircraft model !
I was looking up Hunting aircraft because Hunting is my family but you did a great job with this!
That's pretty amazing :D glad you liked it
Check out how the Shuttle Factory channel dealt with those decals! He built the same kit and cut the decals into smaller, more manageable pieces. That one turned out pretty good too!!! Good job!👍🏼
That sounds pretty interesting! I plan to build Airfix's 1/72 Vampire, which has the same decals - this sounds like a good trick!
Excellent build vid. very good presentation and compilation. Despite the decals its a great looking Provost. Well done.
Thanks a lot!
Fabulous little build. Beautifully executed. I’ve subscribed immediately 😃
:) Really happy you liked it!
I like the day glow look.
This build illustrated the way Airfix has put effort into making kits go together. Eg the pins on the front cockpit bulkhead rather than in the old days a groove in the fuselage sides and tab A into slot B wings and elevators.
Yep, that's true!
Beautiful model
;)
I'm "glad" you had trouble with the day-glow decals because I had exactly the same problem. I now know it wasn't anything I was doing wrong.
Mine didn't survive and I gave-up making that scheme.
One thing I'd say too is don't waste money on "clear fix" when you can use any pva/white glue, which dries clear.
I uses Bostic "White Glue" for cockpits.
I'm also glad! Now we know it's definitely a fault on airfix's side!
Hah, I bough a Vampire kit from airfix and they had similar terribly designed decals for the edges and stuff, I just ended up masking and painting. Took about 3 full days of masking and painting but looks better than the decals would've and i bet was easier
Funnily enough, I was looking at that kit on amazon - If i bought it, I would 100% paint them on lol. I think the decal sheet alone would trigger some pretty bad PTSD 🤣
Nice put together plane and video.
Thanks!
Those yellow dots on the ejection seat are cool
Thanks :)
The decals are the correct colour for FTS of that time. The Fly model requires painting the hi Viz on.
Oh no I hate decals lol but you made it look easy great update and build the provost looks great
Thanks so much! It came out alright in the end, yes :)
Cracking job on that fella well done.. noticed your voice got deeper 😆 .
XD
Did you airbrush anything over the decals afterwards, such as future or something?
Thanks 👍🏻
Yeah, I just did a simple gloss coat over the decals :) Humbrol clear gloss, though anything works fine or better!
Great video; so good to have an instructional video with narration, thank you. Such a pity about the decals are there no after market decals available? Despite the struggle with them, you built a stunning looking kit
Thanks so much man, I have no doubt there will be quite a few aftermarket decals, but I really thought the dayglo would work, which it didn't, so I didn't buy any....I'll have a look and send some links for ya :)

Nice build. Well done percevering with this decals. Are there no after-market decals available?
I'm sure you can find some on a website like Hannants, though I haven't looked :)
Very nicely done!
Nice little kit BUT Airfix should have pointed out in the instructions to use HOT water for the glo decals and tons of softener. I also had to buy again the kit to replace 2-3 glo decals that broke while trying to make them to conform around the leading edge.
Yeah, You are completely right. They wanted tp charge me £6.00 for new decals, so i refused and used paint to cover the cracks!
Modelling Weekly 6£ for the decals when the whole kit is sold for aprox. 9£
@@gmtxrsts I know, it's ridiculous! You'd think they would want to make them cheaper to satisfy the customer, so that they buy more kits!
Do you know where i can get an strikemaster model kit
Not off the top of my head, but if you search it up on scalemates I'm sure you'll find something :)
@@ModellingWeekly thanks
Very nice job! Did you use any type of decal softener/setting solution? I personally use micro sol and micro set, and they are a big help especially with bigger decals that have to conform to curves and panel lines. I bought myself this provost kit earlier in the year because I have an older version of the provost I want to refurbish using one of the decal options in this kit, so at some point in the future I'll be tackling those day Glo decals!
I used decalfix from airfix, but something more powerful like Micro sol/set would be ideal. People Are saying to use really hot water to soften them, but I just think too many things could go wrong.. You do what seems best, and good luck!
@@ModellingWeekly absolutely! I'm sure I have some decalfix as well as sol/set too, and I'm a big believer in the modelling idea of there is no right and wrong way to build stuff, do what personally works for yourself and never forget to have fun doing it!
I tried using Micro Sol/Set but they just cracked or melted. It was day-glow carnage. I note Airfix have quietly re-launched the kit with new schemes
That’s always the way after the deed is done. A good way is to research the reviews online for some tips
Yeah, I did look on RUclips but I couldn't find anyone else that had built this scheme! SHould have looked at reviews or an online forum!
The "day glow" color has nothing to do with the quality of the decals. Some are very good and conform perfectly to the model.
It's the manufacturer. In this case, they did not do a good job. The carrier film is too thick, too tough. It's not Airfix's fault.
Humbrol Decal Fix is fairly strong stuff, but there are more agressive ones. Solva Set and Daco Strong are also quite good.
Did you soak the decals in Humbrol Decal Fix for a couple of minutes ? Do not wet them with water, only with Decal Fix.
Do NOT forget to clean up the residue !! Decal Fix leaves a residue that becomes hard and glossy, and is very difficult to remove, once completely dry !!
And never put a model with fluorescent colors in direct sunlight or near a powerful light source, or even a window, as these colors can fade fairly quickly, and repair is next to impossible. Keep such models in the shade, always.
Yes, I only used decalfix and no water - I put the model on the window sill just to take the photos, they live in a cabinet that never gets direct sunlight :)
Ive built this kit and used solvaset. Its a stronger acid and melts the decals better
I didn't come here for a " Quick glimpse of the horrible leading edge decals " I wanted to see how you did them .
I'm sorry about this. It's an old video and back then I didn't understand nearly as well how to make a quality video. Again I'm sorry you feel this way.
@@ModellingWeekly Oh that's alright . I've just spent the last hour soaking them in Microsol and Microset trying to tease the bloody things around the leading edge but I've given up . I'm off to get some Dayglow orange paint !
@@bobgibb2781 honestly probably the best solution! I contemplated painting them on myself! I also suggest using hot water to try and bring them around, and in a worst case scenario i've seen people use lacquer thinner to soak them, though I'd think you need to be really careful with this
just reduce the zoom of your camera a litle bit.!!!!
It's not zoomed in at all, the lens has a fixed focal length - 30mm is pretty standard. I appreciate your feedback though :)
Why almost none of the model builders know a thing about making videos? For example about focus, depth of field and so on? Most of your video (as almost all of the modeling videos) is out of focus. (Should be better to turn off auto focus at all.)
