  • The current-generation Ssangyong Musso has been on sale since 2018 and retains a small but strong following here in Australia due to its bang for buck.
    Costing less than $50,000 driveaway for the very top model, the Musso is far cheaper than the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, and competes primarily with the likes of the GWM Ute Cannon and the LDV T60 Max.
    A 2.2L turbo-diesel sits under the bonnet producing 133kW/420Nm which is fed to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system.
    The Musso tested here is the long-wheelbase version that also features a coil-sprung rear end when most rivals make sure of a leaf-sprung setup, yet retains a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.

    I purchased my Musso in May. A great drive. Like that it is Korean made & not Chinese. Seems really well built & for a cheap ute, smooth to drive. What a price for all the fantastic features and benefits with the Lux pack. When i was buying had a test drive of the LDV then the Musso straight after. It was like chalk & cheese. Starting to see more on the road. If your looking to buy a cheap ute thats not cheap!! This is the one. Love it.

    I have one! Awesome, no comparison with Chinese utes. Tows my 2 tonne boat and van with ease. I would recommend suspension upgrade and airbags, both fitted by dealer. Also fitted a throttle controller, makes a big difference particularly on take off. One year of ownership and am loving it.

    What a lot of reviews miss on the Musso is 2 very important design characteristics. 1. Wading depth is 350mm which is the lowest of all utes. 2. Centre bearing/driveline bearing is housed within the cross member, this means you cannot install a diff drop/trans drop if you install a lift which most owners would do as standard the Musso has very low clearance.

    I think I would look at this instead of the underwhelming engine in the Tasman

    • @chasingcars
      @chasingcars  27 дней назад

      We do expect the Tasman to pack slightly more punch but the smoothness of the Musso is certainly nice and it’s probably capable enough for most people.

    • @69DMack
      @69DMack 26 дней назад +1

      @@chasingcarsnot very capable unless your just doing light beach work with no water crossings. Only 350mm wading depth and you can’t lift the coil model past 43 to 47mm with affecting pinion angles and there is currently no way to realign the angles. Normally you would install a driveline bearing drop kit but this can’t be done with the Musso as the centre bearing goes through the cross member chassis.

      @@robertowen8919fascinated to hear this as my brother in law just got one, like it's just one month old, had to wait for it to come into dealership so it's new stock right.
      If we just drive round town all is good, but out on hwy over 80klms an hour I begin to feel ill as a passenger, if I study my seat, it's vibrating, hence vibrating my body ever so lightly, my gut totally dislikes that sensation, drop back below 80 in town all good.
      No sensational of a tyre balance issue, it's certainly a drive line issue.
      Now if he wants to go anywhere, I encourage him to take his wife's Kia or my Patrol.
      Wonder if coils would help???
      Hmm, otherwise it's a great finish.
      My money in this category would go down in a GWM Cannon, certainly better equipped and as spacious.

    • @robertowen8919
      @robertowen8919 26 дней назад

      @@ianweal3081 I love the features the Musso offers, but that feeling of the car shaking which almost feels like the result of the coil rear suspension just turned me off it. Maybe if there is weight in the tub it'll settle down but in the Cannon it smooth and stable. I'm sure there are a lot of components in all makes of vehicles that are made in China so people being brand or country snobs is just silly to me. I'm pretty sold on the Cannon overall, drives nicely and looks much better than the Musso too.

    I recently had my 21 t60 serviced and my loan car was a Cannon ute of same year and similar K's. both the t60 and gwm are the base models. i found the cannon quieter and more modern looking inside, had fake leather seats where the ldv has cloth. in a few ways i think the ldv was better for me, it has a better stereo and climate control. gwm was normal air con. Throttle control set at U4 works well for me. Without that the gwm would eat the ldv on take off but I found for me the LDV seems like more power. Back to current subject, I would love to see a comparison of all BASE models (4x4 Auto) head to head, GWM V LDV V Musso V Mahindra
