      I think it even smarter than that, its adults who think they buy it for their kids but (un)consciously buying it for themselves too. My kid, now 14, is still a massive Lego fan and I happily buy stuff for him but through that kinda relive my own childhood if that makes any sense? The genious is that it appeals both to children and the adults paying for it.

      Well this set is 18+, so it’s not meant for kids. Personally, I like that Lego is also targeting the older demographic now, and not just making toys for kids. But since most people won’t be able to afford this castle, Lego also released the Galaxy Explorer at a very attractive $100.

    I just got done building this set and I hate to say it, buuut I think this castle is totally freaking worth it. This is the Lego castle set the defied all my expectations, it's also the only one with kick butt interiors that are actually historically freaking accurate. Every previous Lego castle gate tower ends up being dead space but on this one, the top floor armory might be my favorite detailed room in the whole build. (this is also where the armory is supposed to be in real castles) When I fold it entirely open it pretty much fills up my entire desk space and the price per piece on this is a still good deal Lego wise, it's as if inflation didn't affect this one Lego set. Every wall and tower is set at a different height and the angles + exterior/interior circulation make this a very dynamic set visually and spatially no matter what angle you view it. I went to school for architecture and this set is a win considering everything I studied. Good Job Lego! I'm quite impressed!!!!

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 8 дней назад

      There is nothing wrong with this set. Sure the pricepoint is pretty ridiculous, but compared to other Lego sets, this is still pretty good value. The massive amount of pieces, the minifigures all the accessories, the building experience, the detail both in- and outside, even the play features and ingenious design elements (like the folding walls), there is so much to love here. This is probably the best castle set ever released if we discount value for money and even then I still don't mind what you get for the price.
      Unlike the Medieval Town Square, I couldn't find a single fault or obvious improvement to be made. The only minor gripe most people bring up is the ramp, how it is too steep and doesn't fit figures on it. I think it is fine if you look at it, but also fixing it isn't that hard.

    I just finished this build. Haven’t built a Lego set since I was a kid. My mother got me this for my birthday and wow. I absolutely love it. I’m surprised how advanced Lego has gotten. Each little nook and cranny is used for some purpose. There’s a cave section with two bats under the castle and after it’s built it’s completely inaccessible. And in the stone work of the build has little gold blocks inside the stone which can’t be seen. I kept grabbing my girlfriend and showing her these little “why did they do this?”.
    I would never have boughten this for myself and having owned the 95 castle as a kid, I was so full of nostalgia while building this. I love it. And my kids loved watching me build it. We are going to have so much fun with this build.
    I got a bunch of extra small pieces while building this, idk if that’s normal or what not. But the horse stable, I didn’t receive the little wooden gate that covers that nook. I also love how many female characters there are. Legos used to have just smiley faces and it’s neat to see what they’ve come up with.

    kinda makes me sad that lego isn't making as many new sets meant for play like this one (Clearly this one is a nostalgia piece for grown ass people but still).
    Most sets in the early 90s were full of action features and could be built in a number of ways like 2 or 3 in one sets. The newer sets lego is putting out are more detailed, more intricate to build but are basically static dioramas once built.
    a GREAT EXAMPLE OF THIS is the hogwarts express which is 100% just a display piece when it couldve been designer more for play (but since they know no parent is forking over 500 to give to a toddler they made a toy for adults)
    And this is sorta the issue i have with modern lego, its mainly toys for adults. not as many cheap and funn builds as in the 80s and 90s where make believe was the main selling factor. I get they do avengers and marvel sets but that's not an original IP like these sets. No really original small builds with a clear story and characters in a very specific situation.
    No more thief running from cops or explorer in a temple full of traps with a sleeping dinosaur . Ya know, 90s stuff. Dinosaurs, indiana jones, 007, volcanos and medieval stuff.

The Kings Castle (1984 #6080) which was the big inspiration behind this set cost $53 ($140 by inflation) has 664x pieces. Don’t forget that the price of fuel and raw material has increased more than double in the last 6x months. 08:27 Of course every castle needs a good dungeon…..and of course every modern interpretation places the dungeon in the WRONG PLACE! The word “dungeon” is derived from the French “donjon” which means “keep”- the keep being the tallest tower in the castle. Because in medieval times the only people really being kept in dungeons were gonna be the higher ups, no peasants being kept here! If a peasant broke the law they were simply fined or publicly punished and/or executed. They were never really held in dungeons because a dungeon isn’t a jail cell.
    Dungeons weren’t designed as prison cells. Originally as stated above they were another name for the keep of the castle, the tallest most secure tower of the castle where important things were kept. Including, on occasion, people. Typically it was daughters of other lords/nobility that had been kidnapped. They were put in the keep aka dungeon as it was the most secure place but were still free to roam the castle. The Rapunzel fairy tale is loosely based around this idea, which is to be expected as this is a 18th century story drawing from ideas of the medieval period same as we do today, so a lot is lost in translation and artistic license.

    • @andrewpackham8236
      @andrewpackham8236 2 года назад

      Whilst you are right about the etymology of the word, there are still plenty of examples of castles with underground prisons or holding cells. So this interpretation is not unrealistic.

    While I am a classic castle friend, I cannot justify spending $400 for a single NON-licensed set. I actually own several Classic Castle sets to include: Forest Man's Hideout, Forest Man's River Fortress, Wolfpack Tower, Dragon Master's Castle, Royal Knight's Castle etc. I own ALL of the 2007-2009 Lego Castle sets when they introduced trolls, dwarves, and skeleton knight's and necromancer......I own Valdek's Dark Fortress which is the biggest bad guy castle made. Needless to say I've seen a lot of castles, and the shortcuts like lack of printing for wizard, and amount of small pieces of this set is EXTREMELY disappointing for the price. To give you an idea: King's Castle Siege came with a huge dragon, 3 skeleton knights (one in armor) 4 foot soldiers, and a knight on horseback. It had 2 small and one huge firing catapult, a trap door, working drawbridge etc. When it came out in 2007, the retail for the price was $100!
    This is 4 times the amount and while it has micro rooms, there's no room to play in it. This is price gouging feeding off nostalgia. It's not going to draw anyone into Castle who wasn't a fan of those 1980 sets. As a general rule for me, any Lego set that's above $250 better be ridiculously amazing, have a huge amount of exclusive non-common bricks in it! I also fully expect a king to be included in this set as well as a jester! Giving me a few rare hair pieces is not going to cut it. It really saddens me Lego thinks a $400 price tag is reasonable asking for a set with a lot of basic pieces. Good job on the interview but it's a hard pass for me.

    I guess one could argue that every minifig stands for 3 to 4 $/€ times 21 that's 63 to 84. Each horse is 5 - another 10. The cow + goat + bird + bat's also 10. So that's Max 100€/$. Which means each half of the castle costs 150, as much as an entire modular building (if you subtract the minifigs there as well) Imo even that seems very overpriced. The original leaked 350 would have been much more reasonable. But no Set will have a good price/value after the price increase from Lego. I would really like to buy this set still, but I have no idea how to tell my wife. Nor my friends, who come to visit and would see this epic castle and ask how much it cost. @@gilneanskizwiadowca Imagine why there might be women putting on armor. There's no lord or king present in the set. In my mind, he is off on a battle or was taken along with many of his warriors leaving the lady of the castle in a tough position. Women might have needed to step up to defend the castle with the few men left behind.
      Regardless, LEGO Castle has never been historical. In a theme with dragons and wizards and tons of fantasy elements, there's no reason that in THIS world women can't be knights.

    • @gilneanskizwiadowca
      @gilneanskizwiadowca 2 года назад +2

      @@AntBandit Women can be knights in any world including the real world but that doesn't mean they should be knights. The fact that a world is fantasy does not mean that there are no rules in it or that it doesn't follow any logic. So it makes no sense to me that in a fantasy world modeled on a typical medieval Europe women are knights or as is often the case recently there are people with different skin colors. You may have a different view on it because you are probably an American but this is my feeling as a native European.

    I love seeing all of these play features, BUT cannot imagine any children actually playing with this 400 dollar model. I think Lego would have been very wise to split this into modules (similar to hogwarts) instead of releasing this for 400 dollars. The set is amazing, I just wish it was released differently.

    • @insurrbution
      @insurrbution 2 года назад +2

      It's not meant for children: it's meant for children who had the classic castle sets who are NOW adults.
      And I'm not saying that because the box says 18+, either.

      @skyler2762 2 года назад

      @@insurrbution yes, that's exactly my point.
      so why are they adding play features like the adults are going to actually siege the castle? might be fun to build, sure, but i find extremely hard to imagine any adults really using them as they are intended. to me it is kind of a contradiction to charge this much for something but still try to make it appear as a playset when in reality it will most likely never be used that way.
      and that goes back to my original point about splitting this set up ino more affordable modulars so adults could collect them and kids could actually play with them

    Yes, Lego went a little woke with all the female soldiers/knights. It's a very simple fix of just putting male heads on the bodies. Also, if I purchase this set, my queen will be converted into my king. The queen head, wig, and crown will go on a body similar to the maiden. This will bring everything back to normal. Easy peasy!

      @@darbyohara First of all, don't be so rude pal. Yeah maybe one in whole army like Joan of Arc for example and counts in per mills or even more. In which percentage here are knights/soldiers "with lipstick" + one medieval queen in knight armor? There are 4 soldiers "with lipstick" and 4 normal ones, of lions (Crusaders). With queen that is more than 50% and that is insane joke even for non historically armies. Like what I said mine are going off and queen will be just a queen without horse sword and horse. That honorable place will take true warrior with knightly characteristics.
