I could justify the bloated price because it fit my needs perfectly, and your video was helped me realize it. Thank you!
This is interesting because as far as I can remember, Lego has never done a Castle or medieval set depicting a cold, snowy environment. I also like the feel of the castle, looking hard and mean and not happy and beautiful by traditional standards like the Lion's Knight Castle is, matching it's barren and icy landscape around it. For anyone serious about having a Lego Castle layout, this set can definitely offer a change of pace and variety when compared to all the other castle sets throughout the ages that are usually depicted as being in a warm, temperate climate.

@@LC-hv1qnI wouldn't say that only easy techniques are being used here. It looks awesome. But Lego had zero effort coming up with a design for this - if you compare it with a normal Lego Set that has at least 2 guys working probaly full time on it, just think about the wages Lego saved here compared to the Lion Knights Castle - massive amount of money for sure.
Mountain Fortress sold out in 3 hours. Snack Shack is close to selling out at 9 hours. Will probably sell out before the 12 hour mark. Old Train Engine Shed is not far behind and will probably sell out within 24 hours. General Store has sold a little over half now. I expect it to sell out within 3 days. Parisian Street hasn't reached the halfway point yet. I expect the Parisian Street to sell out in about a week. The designers get 5% of the sales price. To put that into perspective: The Mountain Fortress designer will receive a check for a bit over half a million Euro before tax. The Snack Shack designer will receive a check for 67,500 Euro. The Old Train Shed Designer gets one for 330,000 Euro. The General Store will bring in 210,000 Euro. Parisian Street will be about 435,000 Euro if it ends up selling out as well.
If you're going to get this....make sure you get the Lion Knight's Castle first. Lion Knight's castle is cheaper (5% vip knocks it to 380, other cashback, GWP, double VIP make it even better), has 500 more pieces, has 22 minifigures, more horses, more prints and banners.
I own 2 Lion knights castle, and I don’t know if I’d buy this one over a third, I kinda feel the 12+ additional minis (including extra horse and cow) plus pieces make that a better set. If this set was 300$ I’d say it would be about right. But 380$? Worse still I can’t wait for this to hit discount and get it at a decent price. Even Lion knights castle has gone on sale at Lego. So no chance here
This castle comes to about the price of the medieval blacksmith and 3 of the 3-in-1 creator falcon castles. I feel those were worth more to a builder than this one. Lot more rebrickable options for them too if you don't feel like designing something yourself. Only the blacksmith just retired though.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526 This set will never see a discount. As soon as it sells out the prices are going to shoot up by a lot. Today is the only day to get this at the RRP.

The poop is a reference to actual medieval castles where the popout windows as seen at 9:20 were actually used as bathrooms that discarded the waste off the side of a castle since there was no plumbing
The sensible detail sleeplessnight worked out with the snow patterns is perfection! It's like a painting. Unfocuseing the castle (with your eyes for example) highlights the snows organic forms.
If I had been gifted this castle as a kid I would have gone CRAZY with joy. Well, I feel like a kid! Thanks for the honest review! I will be definitely trying to get one ❤
Thanks for the review and honest assessment of the set. As you said, Lego is very good at getting the QC process squared away with their sets, so I don't have too much worry. I did not realize how massive this set is, and I even looked at the creator video via Bircklink. The comparison with Lion Knights Castle really helps to drive the size home. As for some more "pop" with the rooms, I'm not worried. I may have some pieces lying around to help with that. Black Falcons 4 Life!
Outside it looks good but yeah that interiors is just super plain. It’s like they spent all their budget on the outside of the castle and forgot to leave some for the minifigures and the interior. 🤦♂
@@dralokad5862they did exactly that (I hear the limit is 4000 bricks) and I for one love it. I'm not a good moc maker and it's going to be much much easier to modify the rooms than it would be to modify the exterior.
It appears we're entering a new reality where classic Castle themed Legos that some of us have been waiting for since childhood are all but unobtainable. If you missed that 3 hour window, expect to pay near $700-800 or more if you want to be a part of this. Real bummer.
Thanks for the great review David. It was great to see all the details through someone else before we can preorder. It looks even better in a review video and nice to see it pairs well with Lion Knight's castle. Definitely one to get come 7 Feb.
Hm, a 360 degree turnaround would have been nice. Now I still have no idea how the castle looks from the front when closed. You only showed the back closed.
I really would adore a SW base for Imperial Soldiers done similarly, while that range is known for the vehicles, an outpost or two wouldn't be too bad.
@@Traingamer5 if it is a substantial building (in a 32x32 or similar sized baseplate) I won't have trouble and besides, look at the Mos Eisley Cantina. That thing is the perfect place holder to base it upon.
I have built this set - also have lion knights castle. Excellent building experience through the app. Given no manual would have liked several more minifigs. However, it is stunning and i would say that whilst the lion knight interior is better, i never see it when its on my shelf so the exterior is more important than the interior imo. I appreciate the proper sized crenilations and working murderholes, feels like a more realistic castle design than other lego castles. It also has major black knights castle vibes in its towers that i really enjoy. The interior is still fairly detailed but could do with some sprucing up (5-10 extra minifigs would have helped) but leaving an open wall in the top bedroom feels unaaceptable and i may need to alter it. That is probably the only glaring issue i had with the set, otherwise a fantastic display piece.
I made the ''mistake'' of starting a Castle collection (working on a village) besides my Star Wars collection. My hobby is getting pricey, but when I just look at my village so far it always brings me a smile. This Fortress looks amazing, but I already have 2 Castles (3 if I count my 1986 BF castle) and the snow theme make it a bit unfit for me. I think this one would go nice with the viking village though.
Thank you for this video! Otherwise I don't think I would've heard of the set. I was lucky enough to get a pre-order in and I'm really looking forward to build it!
This looks awesome! Too bad I have quit collecting LEGO. I have discovered it's much easier and more enjoyable to appreciate LEGO on RUclips than buying box after box myself and cannot open them coz no room to display them...
@@seiya880 I am now mostly collecting custom 1/6 action figures, probably not cheaper haha but I do find myself enjoying their presence in the display shelf much more than LEGO sets. I also collect custom LEGO minifigures
Great video David, finally get to see some decent images of the build. One thing that I don't like about the build, which is easily fixable is the DBG arch pieces inside. There is no need for them to be that colour. All of the walls around them are LBG. When you compared this to the Lion Knights castle is stood out even more and made the LKC look so much tidier and polished. Keep up the awesome work.
i'm only 14 and was a baby when the last wave of castle came out but im absolutely obbsessed i have every lego castle set on shelves right now except a couple of promos and obviously the bricklink designer ones, 400 is too much for the forestman castle.
Couldn’t agree more. When I was a kid I would have wanted nothing but to play with the new lego releases at the time. As an adult I wish I could afford them!
The same thing happens with sneakers. Since bricklinks are supposed to be rare and made in limited quantities, a lot of people will buy a bunch of them and resell them at a crazy price. If someone really really wants the set and they’re down to buy it for the crazy price they’ll buy it for whatever price the person is selling it for. They take advantage of the supply and create demand for it. Nothing to do with the stock market
i would love to see the Mountain Fortress with the Medieval Blacksmith to see how they stand together. Personally im more into Black Falcons than Lion Knights and this castle looks stunning. I know the interiors could be better but that give us space to create our own interiors, which means that everyone can have a different castle :)
Of course, there could be more minifigures, but initially I thought that there were supposed to be 6 minifigures in this set, so thanks for the video, because I was thinking about buying this set, but unfortunately it was difficult to tell from the description and from photos how many of minifigures there actually is. Now we know 🙂
Thanks for this great review, I didn’t know your channel before, but after seeing your review I left you a follow and a like. I’m considering ordering one, not because I hope, that the value will rise in the near future, just because I like Lego and their products. Hopefully if enough people will show an interest in this product, there will be more sets like this one. Keep up the good work, greetings from Vienna, Austria. Greetings
Kills me that these sets are so limited in their runs. This set sold out in mere hours before I had a chance to get an order in. Best I'm going to be able to do is wait till the instructions are available online and just buy all the pieces separately - hopefully the cost will be comparable to the original price and not whatever audacity the second-hand market will be asking for.
If you think about it - this castle has less mini-figs; however, the factions are almost even due to the Lion Knights castle having a small scouting party of Black falcon soldiers including a horse. When combined with the other castle, it makes for a fantastic companion set.
I’m interested in both this set and lion knights, but I can’t justify buying both this year. There’s a sealed mountain fortress near me for 500$, which will only increase In price the longer I wait, while the lion knights set retires at the end of this year. May end up just having to flip a coin because I can’t decide
I hate that they made this a temporary thing, it's the only cool castle they've made in years, if it was still out, I would buy it, so that's a few extra hundred they lost out on from just one person, and I'm sure there are thousands more.
It's a very nice MOC, but the use of exclusivity to drive FOMO really rubs me the wrong way. In the end, it's simply too expensive for what it is. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of them snatched up by scalpers.
I really like the design, great job, with all details, snow elements... Also castle is really tall. However I don't understand the architect thoughts about principal entrance. When the model is folded, your enter the castle and soon after you are outside on the path to the second draw bridge entrance. Really guarded castle, no doubt, but why the outside path is so low then? Any Lion knight can simply jump over and skip the 1st entrance..., only danger left is freezy stream, if he falls down...😅 If I would buy this set, I would definitely redesign it with straight ramp and that would be the principal entrance. The original entrance with yellow bricks above I would make a secret entrance (on the water). Overall I still prefer Lion's castle.
I only recently learned about this BL Designer Program, and specifically this castle. I've been a fan of LEGO Castle since I was building them as a kid in the 80s. Now a 50yo adult, I got the Lion Knight Castle, and I simply must get this "Black Falcon" Mountain Fortress. I am eager to buy one, but have anxiety about doing so. Do you know what time on Feb 7 does the castle go on sale (for instance, is it midnight ET (which would be 9p PT on Feb 6, where I am)? Any tips on how to make sure I secure my purchase? Anyway, I loved this video. It was great to see what the castle looks like, and especially, to see how it compares to the LK Castle. They look well together. I I agree, LK is certainly a more lively place, and BF's Fortress is cold and dark... but I kind of like that, and it fits my head canon about these two ancient foes. Thanks again for the review. Happy building!
@@splatbeef74 I was able to get a Fortress ordered this morning. Took about 20mins refreshing the site, but made it. Thanks again for the heads-up on the timing.
My fear with making this a limited run is that people are gonna see this as a massive investment money making opportunity and not simply as a fun companion faction set making it so that this is gonna run out of stock even faster.
I’d say it’s fine because it has a purchase limit of 2 at a time but idk if the system detects multiple accounts with similar addresses. I really hate limited run sets :/
They're making 3x as many now, and you can only buy 2 instead of 5. It'll go fast, but not insanely fast. Not nearly as many people know about Bricklink as know of LEGO.
Just found out about these sets today =( Sadly I am way too late and won't be getting a copy of this beautiful castle for myself. Hearing that it sold out in 3 hours, woulda had to have alarms set to have actually have gotten one. I'll just have to settle with the Lion Knight's castle and couple 3 in 1 castles that I have, as well as the castle market coming out that I'll definitely be getting. Also going to be sure to be ready to pre order the forest stronghold later this year.
Stunning display piece and I love how different it looks in the different configurations. However, along with the price, the lacking interior made me skip the preorder. Great video again!
i think if it was $80-100 cheaper i would consider it, the model looks very good. maybe the best looking "official" castle lego ever released. but at that pricepoint it isnt for me, i dont care that much about rarity anyway and having such a high price premium for that reason alone is a deal breaker
What are you talking about "such a high price premium for that reason"? The set is € 339.99 for 3995 pieces. That's € 0.085/piece compared to the € 0.089/piece of Lion Knights Castle, and the fan designer gets 5% of the sales price. Yeah, it's more expensive in the US, as it should be. The "price difference" is pretty damn close to the exchange rate. All the other LEGO sets the US gets for a lot less than the rest of the world. You have nothing to complain about.
@@bloodymarvelous4790that’s a dumb argument. It’s not how many pieces you have it’s how you use them. If you spend a thousand pieces on random Griebling instead of say minifigures and details it’s just not going to hit right. Congrats designer made a wall with 200 parts that look great! But designer Y made it with 100, and still look good and used those parts for other things. Right now Idk if I rather buy a third lion’s knight castle or this
Love the channel, but being regretful of not buying more of a 1 in 10,000 set is a bit obnoxious. There’s a lot of people that’ll miss out on this set, and it seems a bit scummy to buy multiple of a limited set, with the motivation of profit and you’re in your position (having a very successful RUclips channel). Especially since you get sent review copies of these kind of sets
I'll pass on this one. We are getting too many castles and too few civil structures. That's just another gray block. I'm waiting for the medieval market though.
I’d like to see a castle build in the style of a defensive layout that has more catwalks and less pointy towers. A castle you could build a siege around.
Such an amazing, set something i've always wanted since i was just getting into lego as a kid but it sucks that it's limited time and with a high price tag (understandably) I'm going to miss out that I will forever feel more depressed about
Its atrocious that this beautiful work is sold out in a frenzy in 2 hours as a much needed set to accompany the LKcastle. Its overpriced for what it is since LEGO had less investment in it and nothing special to make, yet, its still better than most of whats available right now and something everyone should have an opportunity to save up for.
I like that the lion knights have a better interior and the black falcons have a dull interior but fantastic exterior. I think all the gray actually works quite nicely for a mountainous castle
I want to get this to match my Lions Knight Castle. But i just, can't justify that massive price. it's sad, but the limited window basically cuts me out. Id love to support the designer, but It's artificial scarcity just makes it impossible.
When the Castle in the Forest set was available on the BL Designer program, it sold out in about an hour. It was limited to 5,000 units, but due to an error 10,000 were sold. For 30,000 units of the Mountain Fortress, I'd expect it to sell out in at most five hours.
I think that the Lion castle is better inside but is not realistic. There isn't stairs and access to the top for the minifigure. There is something wrong! Every access in the Black falcon Castle instead is very realistic!
My bank account was charged only three (3) days ago (and it was weekend between today and that day). And the box was shipped four (4) days ago. So technically I was charged only one (1) day before I got the set!

But Lego had zero effort coming up with a design for this - if you compare it with a normal Lego Set that has at least 2 guys working probaly full time on it, just think about the wages Lego saved here compared to the Lion Knights Castle - massive amount of money for sure.
I love how we finally got a proper black falcons castle, however imagine this set was the fright knights and basil the bat lord would of been sick
To put that into perspective:
The Mountain Fortress designer will receive a check for a bit over half a million Euro before tax.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526this isn't going to hit discount lol it's not something that you're going to see in stores. It'll be sold for a day and only go up in price
I appreciate all the thought put into recommending this set and admitting that it's new territory.
The poop is a reference to actual medieval castles where the popout windows as seen at 9:20 were actually used as bathrooms that discarded the waste off the side of a castle since there was no plumbing
I am 100% grabbing this one. Castle was my absolute favorite theme and this one is perfect for me.
I really wish LEGO would release more than 1-2 castle-themed sets a year.
Even though I can't afford Lego as a hobby, I'm glad that they're bringing out more full castle sets, they're just awesome
The sensible detail sleeplessnight worked out with the snow patterns is perfection! It's like a painting. Unfocuseing the castle (with your eyes for example) highlights the snows organic forms.
I just bought this set. I’m so HYPED!
Same here!!!!
The exterior looks really solid but man that interior is rough :/
Yeah, it's killing it for me. 400 bucks and a six month wait, they could at least finish the set.
Definitely a cool set, always loved the medieval sets
It appears we're entering a new reality where classic Castle themed Legos that some of us have been waiting for since childhood are all but unobtainable. If you missed that 3 hour window, expect to pay near $700-800 or more if you want to be a part of this. Real bummer.
Wow , glade to see you have this set right in front of you !! 🎉 a review set for you to share with us ! Your work is incredible
Thanks for the great review David. It was great to see all the details through someone else before we can preorder. It looks even better in a review video and nice to see it pairs well with Lion Knight's castle. Definitely one to get come 7 Feb.
My problem with ALL of your videos is that you always make me want them more. 😂
DAMN, it looks insane next to the Lion Knights castle
Hm, a 360 degree turnaround would have been nice. Now I still have no idea how the castle looks from the front when closed. You only showed the back closed.
This bricklink castle is way better than the other and the interior you can make it colorful yourself
Agreed
Scalpers are going to have a field day with this..
Oh boy are they ever local marketplace listings are like 800$ (though I got it for retail because a very kind man in my local afol group)
I really would adore a SW base for Imperial Soldiers done similarly, while that range is known for the vehicles, an outpost or two wouldn't be too bad.
Yeah but just because it’s star wars it would cost 800 dollars
This might be the best castle lego made
I really love the Bricklink Designer Program sets, but they're way too expensive for me, at least their Australian Prices are.
It is MASSIVE. Was on the fence before, but maybe not now.
PLEASE DO A REVIEW OF THE BDP 3 FOREST STRONGHOLD!
Same here. Not to say, it's so much cheaper, you can save lots of money like this :)
@@seiya880 I am now mostly collecting custom 1/6 action figures, probably not cheaper haha but I do find myself enjoying their presence in the display shelf much more than LEGO sets. I also collect custom LEGO minifigures
I have so many sets not built because no room
I display my set one at a time....provided that the set fits the display area!
I also have a LEGO Mountain Fortress but it is a lot smaller and with trolls/orcs.
I’m excited for this!! I definitely hope I get a copy but happy building to anyone that does end up with it!
the price is expensive, but the design is flawless!
Ugh, stop speculating on Lego sets like you're playing the f'ing stock market!! Open them, play with them.. ENJOY them.
Couldn’t agree more. When I was a kid I would have wanted nothing but to play with the new lego releases at the time. As an adult I wish I could afford them!
Cope
The same thing happens with sneakers. Since bricklinks are supposed to be rare and made in limited quantities, a lot of people will buy a bunch of them and resell them at a crazy price. If someone really really wants the set and they’re down to buy it for the crazy price they’ll buy it for whatever price the person is selling it for. They take advantage of the supply and create demand for it. Nothing to do with the stock market
If you spend your money you can do what ever you want with it.
@@BricKing23 no, that's a selfish way to think
It took 3 hours to sell out.
i would love to see the Mountain Fortress with the Medieval Blacksmith to see how they stand together. Personally im more into Black Falcons than Lion Knights and this castle looks stunning. I know the interiors could be better but that give us space to create our own interiors, which means that everyone can have a different castle :)
I don't buy lego anymore so it's no problem for me!, Watching reviews is enough of a fix for me.
Of course, there could be more minifigures, but initially I thought that there were supposed to be 6 minifigures in this set, so thanks for the video, because I was thinking about buying this set, but unfortunately it was difficult to tell from the description and from photos how many of minifigures there actually is. Now we know 🙂
That there is the best winter village set I’ve ever seen.
Great looking set but I do feel that Lego could have included real flags/capes for the Black falcons as the Lion knights got.
It’s a bricklink set so the designers are only allowed to use existing parts
Thanks for this great review, I didn’t know your channel before, but after seeing your review I left you a follow and a like. I’m considering ordering one, not because I hope, that the value will rise in the near future, just because I like Lego and their products. Hopefully if enough people will show an interest in this product, there will be more sets like this one. Keep up the good work, greetings from Vienna, Austria. Greetings
I love the way this set is so accessible! BTW, this set sold out within hours of release--not anywhere near 24 hours! 😮
THIS SET IS AMAZING.
If you think about it - this castle has less mini-figs; however, the factions are almost even due to the Lion Knights castle having a small scouting party of Black falcon soldiers including a horse. When combined with the other castle, it makes for a fantastic companion set.
Love the look of that set ❤️
I’m interested in both this set and lion knights, but I can’t justify buying both this year. There’s a sealed mountain fortress near me for 500$, which will only increase In price the longer I wait, while the lion knights set retires at the end of this year. May end up just having to flip a coin because I can’t decide
I'm super excited to see what they do around the Black Knights or Dragon Knights in the future!
Man your lucky to be the only one to get that set early for free
The FOMO is real!!
Definitely want this for my own collection, getting a second isn’t a bad idea
I just wish lego would make it a normal line...
this is incredibly useful as i decide whether to buy 1, 2, or none of these
I really like the design, great job, with all details, snow elements...
It says 8 Am Pacific time on the website, which is 4 pm (16:00) UTC
@@splatbeef74 I'll have to look more closely at the site, then. Thank you!
Precisely whats going to happen though. The Lego scalpers will definitely buy this one out in a day and resell it for at least 500.
@@The_Worst_Warlockthose kind of limitations aren’t difficult to circumvent.
That‘s exactly what will happen.
Just found out about these sets today =(
Sadly I am way too late and won't be getting a copy of this beautiful castle for myself.
Crazy they sent out early ones already! So awesome 😍😍
expensive but pretty cool castle. I would say must buy for lion king's castle owners
I like the little siege tower in front of the lion knights' micro castle, so you know the falcons are planning an attack
Another collection… to collect. I love medieval.
With this said, I’d love for Lego to rerelease the yellow retro castle. Just for fun.
Right now Idk if I rather buy a third lion’s knight castle or this
@@bloodymarvelous4790 stfu with that price per piece excuse. Lego pieces are NOT all equal.
Gotta love how the only Castle sets we're getting nowadays are giant sets that most of us can't afford
How are they gonna sell the ones that people put a pre order on but don't pay on the release date, is there a waitlist?
Love the channel, but being regretful of not buying more of a 1 in 10,000 set is a bit obnoxious. There’s a lot of people that’ll miss out on this set, and it seems a bit scummy to buy multiple of a limited set, with the motivation of profit and you’re in your position (having a very successful RUclips channel). Especially since you get sent review copies of these kind of sets
the fortress looks so good and I would buy this but I've been eyeing the general store since crowd support and I cannot wait to preorder it!
Its overpriced for what it is since LEGO had less investment in it and nothing special to make, yet, its still better than most of whats available right now and something everyone should have an opportunity to save up for.
this would make a great wolfenstein moc
I like that the lion knights have a better interior and the black falcons have a dull interior but fantastic exterior. I think all the gray actually works quite nicely for a mountainous castle
I want to get this to match my Lions Knight Castle. But i just, can't justify that massive price. it's sad, but the limited window basically cuts me out. Id love to support the designer, but It's artificial scarcity just makes it impossible.
You order today, you pay in 6 months. If you can manage to save $70 a month, you can buy this set.
would love more classic castle by lego!
When the Castle in the Forest set was available on the BL Designer program, it sold out in about an hour. It was limited to 5,000 units, but due to an error 10,000 were sold. For 30,000 units of the Mountain Fortress, I'd expect it to sell out in at most five hours.
Exactly this. Lego DELIBERATELY doesn't want everyone that wants a BLD set to get one. It's gross and hugely disrespectful of their loyal customers.
10 minutes maybe, or less
Love it. Need it.
Great video
I think that the Lion castle is better inside but is not realistic. There isn't stairs and access to the top for the minifigure. There is something wrong! Every access in the Black falcon Castle instead is very realistic!
Had to come back to this as I don't want to open my set. Seems that I got it less than five (5) months. Pretty good.
My bank account was charged only three (3) days ago (and it was weekend between today and that day). And the box was shipped four (4) days ago. So technically I was charged only one (1) day before I got the set!
Great review, thanks. I have my alarm set for 02/07 11a EST!
