      Same here. I could only ever get the smaller sets, never got a castle until adulthood. Still, I had friends who had bigger sets, so surely I played with them back in the day. Now at 50yo, I just build them and never ever play with them at all... Nope. No playing here. 😁

      it's crazy to be happy about that, I know it's better than nothing yeah but come on lego could simply do a lego castle line and it would be perfect, kids like medieval and adults too but no unstead they just do one medieval set per year in UCS scale that only some adults can afford and now it's even worse the only medieval set they make is an exclusive non mass produced set that you have to preorder and if you're lucky enough to be choosen by the randomness of spamming lego's website at 3AM on pre order day you would have to wait 6 months just to get the set
      as I said it's better than nothing so I understand your point but come on it's just lame

      It is a very weird world, where instead of making products to demand, things are going to get sold out in about 3 hours and leaving the vast BULK of customers without a chance to buy something. Meanwhile there are tons of people that just buy it to leave it on the shelf to gain value.
      Even though it is very overpriced and you could probably build something of similar or larger size for far less, the quality of the build and the amount of detail still makes it a worthwhile set to spend some money on.

    I like how the mountain fortress is a bit more gothic and pointy in design, while the lion knights its a bit more boxy and crenalated. like you said, you can tell they are both part of the same world, but they also have different design flavors.

    Limited Run is the opposite of a justification for a high price tag.
    It's predatory marketing, riding on FOMO to wring extra money from the audience. Combine that with the fact that fan-made builds use an excessive number of bricks, and this is a set that puts profit over design.
    Also buying sealed sets with the sole purpose of reselling them at inflated prices (as opposed to holding on to them as a collector) is a scumbag move

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 10 месяцев назад +23

      Get over yourself. These are fan designed sets. Not official LEGO sets. There is a limited appeal for these.
      FOMO is a thing of your own making. If you don't succumb to it, you're fine. If you do, that's totally on you.
      Buying limited editions with the purpose of making a profit happens in every product line. LEGO counteracts this by allowing a maximum of 2 sets instead of 5. They also do this on their high interest regular releases.
      And the price to piece ratio is better than Lion Knight's Castle, and the fan designer gets 5% of the sales price. You are supporting the community by buying these sets.
      But I guess some people just need to complain about everything.

    • @Fire_2000
      @Fire_2000 10 месяцев назад +51

      @@bloodymarvelous4790 what are you talking about? FOMO is a very real thing and well known marketing tactic. I'm complaining because it's cool set but only available for literally a couple hours. That's ridiculous. A set should be available for 1-4 years not 1-4 HOURS!

    I think we are in another golden era of Lego castle since around 2022/23, a renaissance even, considering Pick a Brick: The Lion's Castle, the Blacksmith, the Viking Village, the Medieval Town Square, the Black Falcons Castle on Bricklink (and soon to come the Black Falcon’s Siege Battle Pack) are all absolutely amazing and perfect Lego Sets. The downers being their size related prizeing, their at times limited availablity and the lack of smaller and more affordable regular sets and lines.
    Yet still THE greatest addition, is the selection of available theme related parts and minifigures on Pick a Brick: plenty of beautiful shields (mostly descending from the Lions Kights Castle) and torsos/legs, both in perfectly updated and beautiful new designs, weapons, armor, many other great small parts and items, and a never seen before abundance of animals, of which many are closely related to the middle-age time periode like the horses (at times a variety of 3!), sheep, cows, pigs, goats, chicken, etc.
    Pick a Brick alone allows to create and customize a plentyfull world, even massive armies, for relatively cheap, which I did.

  • @stevenbazinet3404
    @stevenbazinet3404 8 месяцев назад +3

    This is interesting because as far as I can remember, Lego has never done a Castle or medieval set depicting a cold, snowy environment. I also like the feel of the castle, looking hard and mean and not happy and beautiful by traditional standards like the Lion's Knight Castle is, matching it's barren and icy landscape around it. For anyone serious about having a Lego Castle layout, this set can definitely offer a change of pace and variety when compared to all the other castle sets throughout the ages that are usually depicted as being in a warm, temperate climate.

      @@LC-hv1qnI wouldn't say that only easy techniques are being used here. It looks awesome. Mountain Fortress sold out in 3 hours.
    Snack Shack is close to selling out at 9 hours. Will probably sell out before the 12 hour mark.
    Old Train Engine Shed is not far behind and will probably sell out within 24 hours.
    General Store has sold a little over half now. I expect it to sell out within 3 days.
    Parisian Street hasn't reached the halfway point yet. I expect the Parisian Street to sell out in about a week.
    The designers get 5% of the sales price. To put that into perspective:
    The Mountain Fortress designer will receive a check for a bit over half a million Euro before tax.
    The Snack Shack designer will receive a check for 67,500 Euro.
    The Old Train Shed Designer gets one for 330,000 Euro.
    The General Store will bring in 210,000 Euro.
    Parisian Street will be about 435,000 Euro if it ends up selling out as well.

    I have built this set - also have lion knights castle. Excellent building experience through the app. Given no manual would have liked several more minifigs. However, it is stunning and i would say that whilst the lion knight interior is better, i never see it when its on my shelf so the exterior is more important than the interior imo. I appreciate the proper sized crenilations and working murderholes, feels like a more realistic castle design than other lego castles. It also has major black knights castle vibes in its towers that i really enjoy. The interior is still fairly detailed but could do with some sprucing up (5-10 extra minifigs would have helped) but leaving an open wall in the top bedroom feels unaaceptable and i may need to alter it. That is probably the only glaring issue i had with the set, otherwise a fantastic display piece.

      The same thing happens with sneakers. Since bricklinks are supposed to be rare and made in limited quantities, a lot of people will buy a bunch of them and resell them at a crazy price. If someone really really wants the set and they’re down to buy it for the crazy price they’ll buy it for whatever price the person is selling it for. They take advantage of the supply and create demand for it. Nothing to do with the stock market

    I really like the design, great job, with all details, snow elements... Also castle is really tall. However I don't understand the architect thoughts about principal entrance. When the model is folded, your enter the castle and soon after you are outside on the path to the second draw bridge entrance. Really guarded castle, no doubt, but why the outside path is so low then? Any Lion knight can simply jump over and skip the 1st entrance..., only danger left is freezy stream, if he falls down...😅 If I would buy this set, I would definitely redesign it with straight ramp and that would be the principal entrance. The original entrance with yellow bricks above I would make a secret entrance (on the water). Overall I still prefer Lion's castle.

    I only recently learned about this BL Designer Program, and specifically this castle. I've been a fan of LEGO Castle since I was building them as a kid in the 80s. Now a 50yo adult, I got the Lion Knight Castle, and I simply must get this "Black Falcon" Mountain Fortress. I am eager to buy one, but have anxiety about doing so. Do you know what time on Feb 7 does the castle go on sale (for instance, is it midnight ET (which would be 9p PT on Feb 6, where I am)? Any tips on how to make sure I secure my purchase? Anyway, I loved this video. It was great to see what the castle looks like, and especially, to see how it compares to the LK Castle. They look well together. I I agree, LK is certainly a more lively place, and BF's Fortress is cold and dark... but I kind of like that, and it fits my head canon about these two ancient foes. Thanks again for the review. Happy building!

    i think if it was $80-100 cheaper i would consider it, the model looks very good. maybe the best looking "official" castle lego ever released.
    but at that pricepoint it isnt for me, i dont care that much about rarity anyway and having such a high price premium for that reason alone is a deal breaker

    • @bloodymarvelous4790
      @bloodymarvelous4790 10 месяцев назад +1

      What are you talking about "such a high price premium for that reason"? The set is € 339.99 for 3995 pieces. That's € 0.085/piece compared to the € 0.089/piece of Lion Knights Castle, and the fan designer gets 5% of the sales price.
      Yeah, it's more expensive in the US, as it should be. The "price difference" is pretty damn close to the exchange rate. All the other LEGO sets the US gets for a lot less than the rest of the world. You have nothing to complain about.
