This is a lesson I learned way back in my teens. I have been accused of being frivolous and ignorant by people who see me not letting the world drag me down. I've also been called strong for this same attitude toward life.

Oh my … I just realized I lived in fear of my mother all my life. And didn’t dare doing anything for myself, or just being myself. I grew up abused and controlled and that was my only reality.
I could leave from this context 20 years ago but was terrified of doing it. Now I know why … her shadow was always following me.

I just love coming here and getting called out.🙃 But seriously, I was just thinking about this yesterday!

I do wish you'd do a similar show regarding fear and politics. Some in the political world are inflating a wave of fear as part of their platform, and it's driving a portion of our society into dangerous practices, like hoarding guns and becoming not just hateful but downright violet to strangers.

Rocky's impression in the end is just hilarious! 🤣 And the love and joy in Alicia's eyes at that moment 😍

I really needed this today. I was just telling my therapist that I feel valueless because my FOO doesn't value me. So, I'm learning that I need to value me, and that is easier said than done.

I have learned in fear for over 30 + years. I learned the lesson last year that I needed to let go of the fear because I have value and what I did is not how I get value. When I started to do this I was able to accept love in my life. I was able to give love to my children and be a better person. I still need a lot to work on but I am ready for the journey.

I ADORE the Rocky movies. I started watching them this time last year when I tried catching up to see Creed III in theatres because of all its rave reviews (I didn't manage to make it in time as I was/am in college) but sweet sugar snaps, did I fall in love with those movies. In fact, I'd probably say that it's in my top 3 movie series of all time.
It blew my mind that films like that came out in that era. The first movie came out 20 years before I was born, but I was humbled by how earnest, down to earth and respectful those films were. As a perfectionist who struggles with depression and suicidal ideation, due to my ADHD and bullying in my early childhood, I felt so seen by Rocky and Adrian.
I also adore how Rocky is still super macho but still super respectful, loving and sees his wife as a person, and not his wife. It's crazy that he's held up as one of the pillars of masculinity, but it feels like if the film came out today it would be labeled "woke" or some other buzzword. Like, more men SHOULD look up to Rocky, heck, I'm a woman and I do. Everyone should look up to Rocky and Adrian.
My eyes were constantly wet during Rocky 2 as I saw Rocky deal with people treating him like he's an invalid or worthless because of his learning disabilities. I feel that both rocky and Adrian are definitely neurodivergent, esp with how Adrian's brother called her the R word a lot in the first film.
Oh, I'm so sorry, look, I ranted so much. I guess that just shows how much I love these movies and characters.

I like the little clip of Anti-Hero. I'm not a Swiftie normally but I've had that on heavy rotation as I embrace and heal from anxious attachment. Also I love the Rocky films.

Thank you guys so much for what you do...right now I'm terrified to go to my grandmother's funeral, because I know that my abusive mother (who I have not spoken to in years, and keeps trying to force her way back into my life) will probably show up. I don't want to make a scene at the funeral, but I also don't want to stay away out of fear. The big problem is that my dad doesn't understand why I don't want anything to do with her, no matter how much I explain it- so I know that if she shows up, I'm on my own and there is nowhere to run. And I don't know what's more important - going for my grandmother, because she was an amazing woman, or staying away so that I don't cause a scene because there is no way to physically defend myself against my mother otherwise

Funerals are for the living. If going to a funeral helps you to grieve and mourn and then heal from your loss, then do it. If your attendance won’t do that, do go. Neither choice will change the love and respect you have for the departed.
This is just the viewpoint of some random guy on the internet, so take it for what it is worth. I hope you can find a satisfactory outcome to your situation.

Ask your grandmother if you can spend sometime to remember your grandfather that is not at the funeral. This can help her to see the world out of the moment and tell you stories that she would tell anyone. Make it a dinner or a walk if she would like that. Or make sure to check on her as much has you can to let her know that you love her and that she is not alone. This will help you both.

@@mtorres9069 I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. My grandmother is dead? I can't spend time with her even if I want to. It's her funeral, and my grandfather isn't even in the equation. I'm living with my dad, my grandmother's son who is organizing everything. My mother, his ex wife, wants to come and crash the funeral- and I am terrified of her and don't want to cause a scene at the funeral if she shows up and tries to force me to come back with her. My dad tries to be supportive but I know he doesn't understand how serious the situation is.

I think I just don't believe it. Everybody had inherent value as a human-except for me. I am broken, and other people can't say I have value because they don't truly know me. I'm the only one who does. And all these flaws I have chip away at whatever inherent value I may or may not have had. Worst of all, I look at some people as more valuable or worthy than another based on my own judgements. It feels evil. I wasn't always so bitter.
