I think it's an 1/8 of an inch difference (at least that's what I use) . . . lot's of head scratching on stairs eh? (just wait till you have to make some like the ones in my house . . .) edit, I just looked it up and code allows 3/8ths of an inch difference! which to me is unacceptable!
