  • 2024 T20 World Cup, Day 22.1: India v Bangladesh
After a polished performance against Bangladesh, this increasingly feels like the question - can anyone match India when they are close to their best? What’s certain is they have every base covered and are hitting their high notes at just the right time. Adam and Geoff are back together to review the favourites and also to reflect on another poor showing from Bangladesh, who have well and truly run their race.

I'm still waiting for that one performance from India that would calm my nerves and relieve me of my PTSD from the other WCs.
Unlike Aus, Eng & WI, India hasn't had a fully dominant match and that makes me a bit worried. Even SA has been tested by teams but they've still won those games.
Hence, I just cannot figure out how India is doing till now.

India will do India things and likely crumble in the kockouts. They haven't really faced a strong competitor yet. I'm just stressing out about South Africa and their precarious position, their unbeaten run notwithstanding...seems unprecedented.
Edit: If two teams end up with the same number of points, why wouldn’t we look at their head-to-head record, before considering the run rate? It doesn’t seem fair for England to go through based on run rate when they’ve lost to SA

To just say that Shakib is Bangladesh's greatest player is damning him with faint praise. For many years (for around a decade) he was the best allrounder in ODIs in the world. And before Stokes/Holder and then Jadeja broke through he was arguably the best allrounder in the world in Tests for a few years as well.

It’s simple. Overall India has a VERY good , well balanced team that on average is better than almost every team. That is precisely why they have been winning a lot of bilateral series across formats , home and away, even against Australia.
However, I think their knockout mindset is weaker, they come with a lot of baggage, and simply freeze at the ultimate stage.
If the finals were best of 3, I’d bet on India. But Because that’s not how the world works, I’m afraid a repeat of previous WCs is brewing.

India hasn't played the strong teams yet - Aus, Eng, SA and WI so the unbeaten tag means nothing. To be fair, the top order is rather meek and lacks aggressiveness and the bowling hasn't been put under pressure which you cane expect against the strong teams.
My gut feeling is they will lose in semis against a better prepared and more aggressive opponent.

They are playing international cricket for 25 years plus and they have a HUGE fan base. Its time to go to next level. I would say invest in grass roots as well. 1st class cricket is where you create good cricketers.

The planning has been absolutely meticulous

We're unbeaten not unbeatable, our team hasn't been tested because all of our games have been against weak teams. Those matches were more like warmups, the real test starts now. We've already got 2 warnings in pak & USA matches. The matches were close which it shouldn't have. Our real WC starts from 24th and even if we beat Aussies in group stage it still means nothing because the team behaves differently in SF & Finals. My expectations are 0 from this team.
