I am 31 years old. Watching cricket from 4,5 years old. Witnessed so many great bowlers but I've never seen any bowler who made opponent terrified as bumrah does.
You are playing 16 overs if you are playing against India because you can't do much in those 4 overs of bumrah. This is some other worldly stuff from him.

@@juanestadian8471 You can only find a few examples in his close to 10 years of int'l career. The bowlers you have named didn't bowl in the modern era where situations and rules heavily favour the batsmen. They didn't even play T20Is and the modern day ODI cricket with so much of inventive shots and explosive batsmen. If you really want to compare, compare their averages across formats, he would be the best all format fast bowler as said by many many experts around the world.

In the first over 2-3 overs he was super aggressive but when India was 34/3 he really really changed his gear back to his original play style of rotating strikes and only going ariel at the end. We all know the truth of so called Indian batting depth, Axar and Dube played the way they did coz Kohli was on the other end and Axar got lucky many times with the sixes. If you watch throughout the tournament India had choked the fuck out of some of the best teams. Pakistan, Australia were both in winning situation comfortably. India's death bowling has been really phenomenal. You have one Bowler who dogs in Yorkers. India had three specialist death bowlers . Not a single team throughout tournament managed to score even run a ball will 5-6 wickets in hand. Now that doesn't happen always. Indian bowlers literally turned death overs into a new art form this tournament

Not To Just Spite your Opinion but I don't think Without Kohli's Innings India might struggle to score the death bowling of Rabada and Co, because I have seen in the bilateral T20 series between India and South Africa, South Africa did always well at the death, If the batter was new to the crease even Hardik struggled in the past against fast bowling of South Africa, so Kohli ensuring that there's a set batter remains until the end is very crucial thing for India's victory (If you notice the 10th over drinks break of India's innings you can see Dravid pulling Kohli slightly away and talking to him, I bet He told Kohli to stay calm until 17th over of the Innings)

I think it's a bigger case than Kohli's conservatism kicking in when the chips were down. He made his calculations. He probably aimed 180 odd, given the bowling that India has and given South Africa's history in World Cups. He controlled the controllables reasonably well. I don't think he was player of the match or anything. No one should have been player of the match for that game. But he made a respectable, almost Marlon Samuels-like contribution in the World Cup Final.

He gets some hatred, Virat Kohli, back in India. The reaction of some of the Indian pundits to the win included some bizarre comments about how Kohli batted. It's not relevant now. India won the Cup, Kohli retired. This was and is the time to celebrate.
If you ask me what I felt at the halfway stage, that's exactly what I felt. That he played like Samuels from those finals, Gambhir from the 2007 final, or even the Kohli from the 2014 final. Would it have worked for any other side in the tournament? Probably not. Would it work for the RCB? No way. But for an Indian attack with Bumrah, it does. It would have easily been 30 for 4, 30 for 5, game over.... Even when Axar Patel got himself run out after a brilliant innings, India were 104 for 4, not fully out of the woods. Runs in a World Cup Final ever so important. So it was street smart from Kohli.

    1. Pant time out for knee injury was time wasting

On second viewing, Pant might have actually needed the physio. 5th ball of the Bumrah over that went for a double, on that ball Pant had to jump to catch the ball after Dube threw it back. You can see that Pant didn't stand up fast after that. Maybe he actually did something there. Ravi Shatri said that it was a tactic so that's how we saw it, but maybe it was legit.

Also in hindsight the difference between the both sides were that South Africa did not have any anchor player like kohli who could take them to the finish line. Horrible take on Virat's innings. Piss poor take in fact. If he gets out one over earlier, India loses that match. If Kohli got out cheaply, anything less than 30, or even 50, India would've been railroaded. Do you honestly want Dube, Pandya, and Jadeja facing 10+ overs with Rabada and Nortje in operation for most of them? Two of those three had done nothing with the bat in this WC, and I don't care what form Pandya is in, I wouldn't back him against Rabada or Nortje.
It's almost as though you forgot how Kohli won that match against Pakistan a couple years ago, and that was chasing 160. They managed to score well above par yesterday with 176 on the tins. No one in their right mind had South Africa chasing down that total, and no one thought India left too many runs out there. In fact, had Kohli batted right till the end, that total probably would've been in the 180's.
As devastating as Sky can be, you really don't want him in the middle early in an innings against a great attack. Against mediocre attacks, sure, but he also hasn't delivered with the bat on the big stage.
At 34/3 with Rohit, Pant, and Sky in the shed, absolutely no one thought India would get to 176. No fu#king one. Most Indian fans would've taken 150-160 at that stage.
Yeah, Kohli scored 50 from 48, and then he scored 26 from 11. He batted exactly the way he should've throughout the tournament. These scores and strike rates suited his style of batting. Pinch 1's and 2's, put the bad ball away. Accelerate in the end. For the tournament, Stubbs and Miller has strike rates of just barely over 100. Klassen had a strike rate of 126, and that must have been greatly boosted by yesterday's innings.

Yes Bumrah is a genius and yes Surya took a once in a lifetime catch but thats not in SA's control....They fluffed their lines with decision making in the end - thats where the match went away. I completely agree with Adam's assessment that Kohli did not accelerate earlier, that would've given Pandya and Jadeja more balls to face and execute their role. I feel India left 20runs on the field as well due to this approach. At the innings break Maharaj mentioned that pitch was getting easier to bat on.. The other crucial point which will be overlooked now that India has won is the following - Given that Klaasen was butchering the spinners (IPL and Klaassen's career is plenty evidence), Sharma should've completed Pandya's quota of overs and added pressure on SA. This was shocking captaincy by Sharma!

Almost every WC in cricket in particular, with such small margin for error, and no 2nd chance if 1st is taken, there is a crucial moment beyond many a great ball bowled: a bowler-touched run-out, a great throw run-out, a superhuman catch, a poor umpire decision, all non-controllables. Then controllables: a stupid run-out, a batchman in control of score and match going big and getting caught when ground strokes would win it easily. SA women lost one vs India last week by DeK going big unnecessarily, De Kock and Klaassen in final yesterday, AB dV and other great batsmen getting trigger happy in past big matches more than once...then exposing vulnerable tail to finish. They often do, but should not have to. Play the situation - simple.

Agreed with Adam's point, however i feel Kohli did what he did primarily because the 3 wickets that fell had 2 of India's main scorers in them. Axar can no way be POTM since he gave away as many runs as he made. It is only for bumrah that india won

Yes you're probably right and it was a shame for Axar as he has been close to India's MVP this tournament

If Miller had got the job done for SA, Axar would have been dubbed a villain for that 24 run over; however now he’s a hero for those valuable quick 47 runs with the bat!!!
    A nail biting finish nevertheless..

None has pointed the blunder by Rohit Sharma in the 14th over which could have been so costly for India...with Miller and klassen going brutal against our premium spinner kuldeep yadav..with klassen the world's best striker against spinner in strike..looking for hammering to spinner Rohit opted for Axar Patel .and subsequently the equation got really easy for South Africa..with 24 runs in that over .which was tactical so blunder..he surely could have gone for Hardik at that time..in the 14th over
