It really is a great way to add more to your collection. I never really had a lot of money either, I paid off my car 5 years ago and not having a car payment really helped with a my movie budget. Glad I’m not the only one collecting used physical media, lately all I ever run into is eBay resellers.
Most of the time I stay within my budget, but not something I think about. I buy what I like sometimes I have to wait for it. The Amazon wishlist does come in handy.
When it comes to 4K discs and what not, I usually have to buy them slowly off amazon and gruv and what not. Wait for deals. As for regular blu rays, 90% of the ones in my collection are used. I find them at pawn shops and facebook marketplace for 3 bucks a piece or often less when you buy them in lots. The only times I've spent more were on specific movies or specific versions of movies I've wanted. Good deal!
that's the best way collecting isn't a race. I think most people don't think in those terms, because it's one of the few hobbies that we get to enjoy more than collectibles on a shelf.
A really great way to build and collection and save some money, there is something great about finding something used that you wanted. Recently I found Batman on batamax that was a huge score for me. What was something you found that was an absolute treasure?
I found Lightyear on 4k at a 2nd and Charles sealed for $11.69 and it was only 2 or 3 months from when it was first released, most of my 1690 blurays are from stores like Half Priced Books, 2nd and Charles and local used games store and also I got probably a 100 or so movies from Nickelflix which sells most blurays for $4.44 and if i get a chance I'd like to drive to the physical store and see what they have that's not online
That’s awesome great find. It really is the way to do it sure a day one purchase is going to be that, but part of the hobby is going to find your movies, and getting them cheap isn’t bad either.
A lot of Steven seagal films are on Blu-ray I mean a lot the classics and past 15 years films but some are oop and wouldn’t be available anymore unless you really dig and search same with van dammes films most of them are on Blu-ray
I just started collecting blu ray. Buying use 100% worth it. Three days ago I bought a 40 movie lot of blu ray for $25 on offer up. Got super lucky. Came with a lot of movies I like (marvel,dc,transformers, comedy, crime movies, 2 new steelbook,5 were new and I also bought 34 blu ray movies for $2 each use on Mercari. (Choose the ones I like)
@@80sMadeConsumer A lot went on sale for me. My 4K collection is fairly small, so all the popular must haves like the fugitive and willy wonka were all on sale 🎉
@@kleetusvandam Good will once in a blue moon has some, but where I live there are 2 chain stores one called DAV Thrift store, and CHKD Thrift store. When I lived in Rhode Island 5 years ago I was getting Blu-rays between $2-5 dollars that was called SAVERS.
@@80sMadeConsumer I need to dig around for some kind of decent shop around here. The Goodwill's where I'm at charge $3.40 for a blu-ray and it goes up from there. I've not seen a 4K disc yet on the shelf at Goodwill.
My local thrift store sells dvd and blurays for $2 and my local library does the same for whatever theyre getting rid of. Not as much good stuff as youve shown but still enough for me. I hop in every once in a while and buy a few blurays. I used to go a few times a week but they dont cycle through enough stuff so ive started going much less. Now i only go once every few months.
Still finding good deals is worth the trip. Very rarely do I find something I really needed. Mostly I find things that are worth getting but weren’t on my radar.
I hardly ever buy ANYTHING at full price. Especially 4K Ultra HD, I think I only have like 7 different movies on 4K, I'm not really a 4K Ultra HD movie guy, can you tell me why it's better to buy them than regular Blu-Rays?
The easiest answers is a really good 4k will be sharper better colors, really take advantage of your 4k tv. Blu-ray’s look good some early ones weren’t as great but as the technology got better they look top notch with the 4k version being a noticeable upgrade but not leaps and bounds. For me mostly the difference is like watching cable and watching a Blu-ray better picture better sound.
Ive been using pawn shops and thrift shops to fill holes in my collection for the last 6-7 years Approximately, 1/3 of my collection is used and have even been picking up DVD movies that either dont have a bluray or the bluray is oop or is too pricey. I also use Amazon rewards to help with other pricey purchases But most of my collection is from Amazon and Best Buy but ive been getting away from giving Amazon all my money and looking for more used or mom and pop shops on adding physical media to my collection
That does suck, I feel your pain. Only recently did my local shops stop throwing away VHS tapes. Never a huge selection living in a military town either so if I don’t check a couple of times a week I’d really miss out. I have a friend in Texas who has multiple giant stores that sell used movies, he sent a video spinning around in one, very jealous but if I ever go on vacation I try and check out local thrift stores just in case. If you don’t already check out Hamilton book. Their online site has a great selection of movies and great prices I order from there often. 6 dollar Blu-ray’s and no matter how much you order always 4 dollar shipping on the whole purchase.
I feel your pain, we live in a military town and the selection isn’t as good as many other places. We have a 2nd Charles too, it’s the worst for your wallet. The only reason I go there is when I have some harder to find movies I’m looking for or sheer boredom. Even when you get a good deal there it’s still expensive. The place I save the most is the local thrift store, goodwill is horrible now they send the good stuff to their eBay site, maybe find something a couple times a year.
Hi, youtube recomended me your video, my father have a lot of movies on the cd's in basement that he collected years before, great collection. Can you recomend me some good price/quality ratio blue ray player please? It would be cool to watch some of the movies in good quality and feel the vibe of the 80/90s. Cool video, i like the trend of turning into phisycal media. Sorry for my english. Greetings from Poland. :)
That is great to be able to jump right in to physical media like that and want to enjoy your father’s collection. I’m not super familiar with the price difference in Poland, but two players I would recommend if you are just starting out that I know you can get on Amazon in your country. The Sony-S7600 or the Panasonic DP-UB450EG-K. Both decent budget friendly players. You can spend more but I wouldn’t starting out. You can always upgrade later if you love the hobby.
Little secret when you're spending money , you're not saving money Physical media collectors love too 💪 They're cheap because they're not boutique label
Do you budget conscious or are you a buy what comes out no matter what?
Neither. If you like it and think it’s worth it you buy it!
@@gallynuts Can't argue with that!
Sounds exactly how I do it and have been doing it for years. Don’t make a lot of money, but I have a massive collection because of these tricks. 15:08
