I have close to a thousand CD's. In my library if I wanted to listen to all of the artist I currently listen to. I would have to subscribe to sPotify, Tidal, and Apple music and a Japanese service to listen to them all. Nevermind anniversary or limited edition albums that are not on either of the services. And you have something to look at in your hands while listening to the albums. Can't get that with digital.

Physical media is better for collecting and archive. With streaming. You depend of internet and the platform's mindset. If they decide a movie you love is not profitable to have on anymore. It's gone. You can't watch it again. It must find it on another platform. Paying again. Streaming service is the most evident form of media prostitution cinema ever faced.
Physical media. In games. Movies and music is always better. You choose your catalogue. Ypu take care of something. You have the responsibility of keeping your collection up-to-date. It's wonderful to have a Physical collection ypu know it's yours.

I agree that music is probably the most accessible type of physical media you can collect because there's several types of formats/mediums through which you can listen. I've found too that CDs in particular are pretty easy to collect for cheap, and can be played on several different devices that I own. What I really like about physical media in general is that you can access it at any time without needing to worry about having an internet connection, and you also get a physical piece of art that you can display in your home/extra goodies that you don't get through just streaming it. Like the cover art on a music CD and the booklets that often times have lyrics to the songs and photos, or DVD movies that come with extra features.

With music, id say buying a FLAC is enough than buying a CD, but maybe Vinyl for novelty is good, because audio now a days is quite easy to archive everywhere, although for games and movies that goes from 5-100gb depending on how long the movie or big the game is, I definitely agree that it needs to be in physical form since they are the only media form that is hard to archive compare to audio.

Subscriptions are a double edge sword especially when they have more control than you do. It's good to have your favorites in a physical form. About Cassette Tapes though if you get a good enough deck tapes can sound like FM, or even up to the yearly year CDs (the 80's AAD variety). Most old Walkmans need work on them like new belts, and having the capacitors changed among other things. The best Walkmans sounded like FM radio if they are maintained well, but the best tape sound will need to be from a triple head Stereo Deck from the mid 80's through the late 90's (preferably decks with "Dolby S" or at least "HX Pro"). Your Optimus is okay, but it is a entry level portable tape deck (very cheap) so yeah the sound is passable, but not the best.
I have CDs, Tapes, and LPs (Vinyls) I am collecting hard to find out of print stuff as well. I also backup the media I have/get onto digital (or onto blank tapes) due to potential Disc Rot & trying not to wear out the original tapes & LPs. Luckily they never got rid of the "Fair Use Act" down here in the U.S. (in spite of the RIAA/MPAA wishing it was) so I can make backups (and mix-tapes). Oh this goes for video formats too.
I've learned the importance of making backups due to having my entire media collection destroyed by a EF4 (borderline EF5) tornado in 96. Hundreds of CDs, Tapes, LPs, games, and VHS just destroyed in a instant...... I've also had DVDs rot due to piss poor manufacturing including PS2 games.

I use early to late 2000-2010 MP3 players and local media alot here.
I use free streaming services but my favorite stuff is LOCAL ... so if i cant pay for an ISP for awhile ... i dont lose ALL my stuff or access to it anyway.
Nothing wrong with streaming (prices are going up a bit) as part of one's collection but i'd not like it to be the only thing. Heck I still have alot of my CD collection here and only stuff i haven't listened to (forget the media, i mean say album or artist) in 15+ years do i donate

Personally I prefer physical over digital media (with some minor exceptions). Still have my original yellow and black Panasonic Shock Wave cassette deck to this day along with my cassette and CD collection. I started collecting vinyl records a couple of years ago after my dad gave me a newer Yamaha turn table that he won at a golf tournament that he didn't really want (thanks dad) as well as bunch of records he had duplicates of.

I got rid of my Xbox games pass and got a Xbox 360 with some games and a PS2 with some games. I have also started making some cassette tape recordings again to listen to.

@NerdCrave it is indeed. I got a Panasonic cassette player, made some mix tapes for my wife and she uses the Panasonic via the headphones out socket into an aux socket in the car. That way she can play tapes in the car. I had to replace the belt on the Panasonic but it works well after that. That's the only downside to old tech, sometimes needs fixing or belts replacing etc.

I started buying cd's and vinyl (and planning dvd’s as well) not because of trend but because of hate that there are A LOT of music and movies constantly disappearing from my streaming services accounts. Even something you “bought” can disappear. Its like someone always messes with “my” library. And there is also A LOT of movies are plain unavailable to watch because of my “region”. Fuck all of this. It either pirating or this.
P.S. I wish minidisk would come back, but oh well

The sound quality of a compact cassette tape is not “comparable to AM radio”, unless you are playing the cassette on a rotten potato, like your awful Walkman knock-off. Given a reasonably good quality player, cassette sound often rivals that of compact disc, albeit with somewhat more wow and flutter. And it is a myth that cassettes easily wear out. If stored decently, cassettes are capable of being played hundreds or thousands of times with no noticeable sound degradation.

I have a studio quality Sony deck, and if the tape is in good shape it can sound acceptable, certain tape types sound better than others, but my comment is based on older well-used tapes I’m finding at thrift stores. The audio sucks regardless of device in many cases, but this exists for used vinyl too. Most of the tapes you find in the wild and shove in a $5 yard sale Walkman are going to sound pretty crusty

My thriftstore sells CDs 3 for $1, and my local Goodwill sells all physical media for .25 cents.

You had some excellent points on why physical media is still valid and perhaps always will be since you regain control, time, money and peace of mind not obsessing with subscriptions trying to make sure you are getting your moneys worth being a slave to your television or computer.
