You guys are the best! I had so much fun, laughing and talking about movies. John is literally a walking cinema library! FYI…I would have totally gone to lunch with you guys. Weirdly felt like running into old friends. PLUS some great recommendations! SISTERS😵💫🤯RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! I could not have guessed that ending even if I tried. So good!
Me: who is this fan? How great can she be? LITERALLY THE FIRST THING SHE DOES IS RECOMMEND MY FAVORITE MOVIE???? Kim, you’re a real one. Bring her back. PSA: the World of Wong Kar-Wai box set contains the new 4K restoration of In the Mood for Love, because the restoration was conducted for the box set. Buy the Blu-ray, the newer restoration makes for a MUCH lesser experience. I have seen the movie 5 times. Twice in theaters on film with the new restoration, and somehow watching it at home was more emotionally affecting every single time.
@ethanedwards7557 That's a shame. I would have expected better for this masterpiece. It's been a fave of mine since I saw it on the screen in a wee arts centre with a friend up in Scotland, where I'm from, many years ago. It took my breath away. ♥️
@@pamcormack5057 I had it on VHS then bought the bluray and it’s one of Criterion’s worst blurays. Not just me either, every review site says the same.
A fan!! and a Female fan at that! You officially made it. :) I'm loving this trio this Criterion Sale! Although I do agree with those that comment that Kim would make a good addition!! I do miss Conner and his happy dance though lol. Yayy i'm glad you picked up "Mother". Love that movie but then again i'm a Debbie Reynolds super fan!
"Mother" marked a wonderful return to films for Reynolds, who gave a funny and touching performance, working from that terrific script. So glad I got to watch this one with my mom at least once.
@@slc2466 I was pretty young when it came out, but relate to it much more now that i'm older, even at a young age when it came out I was into award shows and I remember it being a big sting she didn't get the Oscar nom.
@@AKAWhatsinaname Yep, I really wanted her to get in. However, she did appear as a presenter at the Oscars and had a funny intro talking about not getting nominated.
Went to B&N across the street yesterday, and was surprised they had the "Scarface" 4K already on the shelf, then a nice worker went in the back and dug out the "Seven Samurai" 4K for me. Also grabbed the "Godzilla" 4K, so "The Shape of Water" 4K on the 26th might be the last 4K for this sale (unless Amazon puts the "8 1/2" 4K at half price for a preorder).
That store has a lot of obscure titles I've never heard of before. I'm genuinely impressed. Tho a few of the titles you didn't recognize like The Music Room and Touki Bouki are ones I have seen.
DJ: "Best movie of last year (holds up Anatomy of a Fall)" Grace: "So great. Well, Barbie was better." I agree with your wife... Anatomy of a Fall is great, but Barbie was indeed better IMO. But, my personal Top 3 Favorite Films of 2023 were the following: 1. Society of the Snow (Netflix) 2. Godzilla Minus One 3. Monster (directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda) I really really was hoping to see Society of the Snow get given the Criterion treatment, alas, it did not happen and I'm a little upset about it.
Eureka have just released a boxset with the original Judex serial, along with the drector's other crime serials, including Les Vampires (inspiration for Assayas' Irma Vep)
Max Ophuls was a master and very influential. Jacques Demy named his first movie Lola as a tribute to him. He was a master at tracking shots. Earrings of Madame De is a masterpiece.
In The Realm Of The Senses has some of the most uncomfortably weird scenes I've seen in any film, some involving minors too, so be warned going in if you decide to pick it up at some point. It's a pretty messed up one. Gaslight is a great film. I didn't overly care for The Furies even though I like a load of Anthony Mann's Westerns. Have you heard The Talk Of The Town is getting a 4k next month? It's not on Criterion but I've requested it of them a few times so it was a real surprise to see it coming out as a studio release, especially as it never got a BluRay previously. Definitely one you should grab when it drops.
If you are looking for the Judex serial from the 1910s and are capable of playing region B blu-rays, Eureka just released a boxset called Louis Feuillade: The Complete Crime Serials. It contains Fantomas, Les Vampires, Judex and Tih-Minh. The entire runtime of the boxset is 1628 minutes or over 27 hours!
In the realm of the senses is a very controversial film because of explicit nudity and treated theme but it is beautiful shot and the quality of the Blu Ray is very good. It is a film to have in the collection.
DJ. Get the individual bluray release of In The Mood For Love. It's among the best films in the collection IMO, and the boxset/4K UHD release are a stain on the film. The bluray version has all these beautiful and rich colorful reds throughout the film, but the other two versions have this puke green tint applied across the entire film. It's gross it's ugly I don't know why they had to ruin the damn film like that.
Every video I see with criterion hunts show Barnes and Nobles with gigantic Blu-ray/4k selections. The 2 Barnes and Nobles by me have a laughable movie section. Legitimately, most people have a larger collection at home than what the BN’s by me have for sale.
Mine is really small as well compared to what FBC gets to sort through, but I had some luck this month getting several on my list at B&N, then ordering/preordering the rest through Amazon.
@@davidalbee5039 the film is called Pandora’s Box. Way ahead of its time with how maturely and openly it deals with sex. It just hit a Criterion Blu-ray a few weeks ago.
Re. Judex. Eureka MoC just released a boxset this week of Louis Feuillade : The Complete Crime Serials (1913-1918), including Fantomas and the original Judex.

Kim is great! Loving the hunting videos!
Kim was fantastic, would love to see her back on the channel... if you can make that happen and if she would want to.
If you got Kim's contact info at all, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing her appear on your channel again if you wanted.
I want to know everything about her movie taste and collection!

Kim's got style and taste
Great video! "The Piano Teacher" all day, every day. Yes indeed.

Can you add Kim to the group, please? 🎉

Hi, Grace! What’s up, Grace? Hope you like Mother!
Love these videos so much!! I have watched so many incredible movies that I probably wouldn't have watched if it weren't for you!
Fishtank is great (especially the estuary scene), Charade is brilliant
You guys have great banter together. Also Criterion really does a have a lot of … appreciation … for the male body. I’m here for for it! Lol
The Children of Paradise is one of my favourite all-time movies.
Great film, one of the greatest French films ever made but unfortunately a pretty bad transfer by Criterion.

Charade is literally the reason why I know what the Criterion Collection is. The first one I ever bought 20 years ago.
Yep, Grant and Hepburn are fantastic together in this- never heard anyone call it boring before!
Great movie talk, as always. Intriguing sale pick-ups, too.
Good to see that the UK has finally got a Criterion sale on various online sites (albeit only 40% off)

I love Judex!! Great 1910s film feeling even though it's from the 1960s. The silent serial is by Louis Feuillade and in that new boxset from Eureka.
