    In this video I replace the £200 oil pipe that if it fails can kill your R8's engine in an instant.
    I bought Project R8 from a private seller in December 2018. I got a big discount over the dealer price but I also took a big risk too. Follow this series to see if the risk is paying off!

    A timely replacement Andrew by the looks of the failing metal-work on the original. A good spot. Great to see the intricate aluminium design exposed by the removal of the under-tray. A work of art in itself. Really good to have met you last weekend, thanks for spending the time talking, very much appreciated. Looking forward to the next instalment of Project R8.

      Thanks again Darren. Glad you enjoyed this one too. It was brilliant to meet you too at Stanford Hall after all your positive and well informed comments on my videos. Funny you should own an A2 and an Up! GTI, interesting if you had to choose it would be the Up! GTI that stayed, a tricky choice!

    It might not depreciate much but just to tax it costs £570 per year at current rates.

      So pretty much the same as a Mk5 R32 (from late March 2006 onwards)! The tax isn't ideal but it pales into insignificance compared to depreciation. 2 year old Golf R estates which were £32000 min brand new are £22000 with 12k miles. £5k drop per year yet £350 saved on road tax.

    That was interesting Andrew, good spot, and changed out in a timely manner.
    It looks like the corrosion just on the point of the stainless section and the black part may stem from two dissimilar metals causing galvanic corrosion.

      That's a good point Alistair, I think you are right, there has to be a good reason why it's got to so weak so quickly.

    Always irritates me that so many manufacturers can't be bothered moving the handbrake for RHD...

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад

      I never noticed that. I was in a BMW last week and I noticed they hadn't moved the infotainment controller which as really annoying!

      @@volkswizard Your R8's handbrake is perfectly positioned... for your passenger! (Less of an issue now with electric handbrakes).

    There used to be a recall on those pipes back in the day & when that finished I used to get a lot of them covered under goodwill, you could have saved some money if you asked at the dealer... the black painted pipes sweat beneath the paint hence the corrosion & subsequent leak, the fix is to not paint them 😂... do yourself a favour & get some ACF50 & treat the new ones, I used to always treat new pipes before preparing them with the correct seal grease... you’ve jacked the rear up in the wrong place too 😉

    Alright, Andrew? I was interested to see at time 6:28 that crudely looking welded 8 on the main frame, opposite side of the rear wishbone mounting. Do you reckon that was done at the factory??

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад

      I don't think that's welding, I think it is some sort of sealant.

    Did Audi give you a price on replacement at the dealership,for them to do it

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад +1

      No, didn't even consider it as I'd rather do it but it's not hard. Biggest cost might be replacing the oil unless they put it back in. Some of the undertray screws in the wheel arches like to rust together too which takes some effort. I have to cut them and replace them.
