    He bent the snot out of that rail when he banged it on the post. Granted, he bashed it pretty hard, but seemed to make a conscious effort to not show it afterwards.

      Exactly. I wouldn't expect many thinner, lightweight rails to hold up to too much heavy bashing like that. I'm not surprised or even really disappointed in what happened. What I didn't like was someone saying "let's see how it holds up to being smashed into a post" and then hiding it. I am actually still pretty interested in the rifle and am considering buying it.

      ***** I'm not overly familiar with the Centurion, but I know DD makes some outstanding rails. And yes, they are very strong.

      JunkfoodZombie yah, 4:51... rail dented in big time. Agreed... don't hide it. Call it "not bad for gross abuse", but don't hide it.

      JunkfoodZombie HAHA seriously. Whats with that? It's a super lite long gun that is MEANT to be not as sturdy (hence, the weight save...duh). I don't get how he thought he could impress the lesser minded AR shoppers by giving it the ol' heave and ho as if to prove it had some kind of titanium or AK type durability when it seemed to me that it was not supposed to be. Rugged is a trade off with weight...this is fundamental common sense. You can't beat physics, so what he should of done, is just show off the fact that it's a 5.7 lbs AR and that, in itself, is really neat...BCM is a great company. You don't need whats-his-face from RECOIL to try to make it seem like the all-around silver bullet perfection AR.

    • @COYDOGSBAND
      @COYDOGSBAND 9 лет назад +1

      JunkfoodZombie Not to mention that honestly, I was super excited when I started to watch this, until he started making fun of those who may add more to the guard. "Well it's beyond me"....well not to me. I would happily add a single pound worth of rails (I'm not a huge keymod guy...more for aesthetic reasons than fuctionality) and there are companies who make uber-light rails/rail covers that I would put on that gun to assist with things like heat and absorbing sun when shooting without gloves.

    hmmm. At 4:52 you can see the rail caved in but since the barrel is free floating I guess that's why it doesn't make a difference. Be nice if you could just as easily straighten it out.

    At 4.51 u can see it was bent to buggery. - They were soft taps also. When I'm forewarned about slight heating expect a lot of over heating. Need to find an indie review on this.

  • @justaguyx9161
    @justaguyx9161 9 лет назад +12

    I've got this weapon. Built it from scratch myself. AMAZING.
    But I do not understand why he destroyed a $300 handguard. It was bent to shit, so you know the front sight is no longer aligned, but I assume the point was to show it still protected the barrel to the point of proper function.

    • @COYDOGSBAND
      @COYDOGSBAND 9 лет назад +5

      JustaGuyx91 Still though, most people with common sense would know that, and he kinda insults the viewers intelligence by making it appear otherwise. If you're researching a new super lite AR, and you had half a brain, as AWESOME as this BCM looks, this uppity turd from RECOIL kinda ruined the excitement by trying to give it the ol' AK-level-of-unbreakability test by smashing it all over the range

    • @justaguyx9161
      @justaguyx9161 7 лет назад +4

      Oh, of course, it's a showpiece. He may be an uppity turd with his viewer-seducing foreign accent, but that's completely besides the point. There was no reason to wreck the rail. Like you said, "...half a brain..." It's a lightweight metal rail. OF COURSE it's going to get bent with that type of intentional abuse. A plastic hand guard would no doubt have broken off, leaving you with nothing to hold on the fore end but the mag well. So I think you just reiterated my initial point, that there was no reason to do that, other than to be a douche. Its a great weapon for just about any need, home defense, competition, or SHTF... completely reliable... UNTIL you smash it against a post for no reason whatsoever.

    • @rickypickles2219
      @rickypickles2219 2 года назад

      lol yea i just noticed that...was warped. the mlok handguard is sturdier for sure. I dont see many scenarios of this happening to a handguard...even dropping it. youd have to slam into rocks or run it over. A 6 ft drop on concrete wouldnt even do that lol

  • @DFWWARPIGS

    I love the way they set up this rifle so much that I had to watch the video again. This is just a beautiful rifle.
    ...I'm not too happy with the fact that they covered up the DESTROYED hand guard, but at the same time every damn hand guard I know of would do this. In a Larry Vickers DDM4 torture test they noted that after being run over, the DD hand guard was crushed and hugging the barrel. Oh yeah and we all know what the plastic hand guards would do...
    I would say the main point is that the hand guard didn't shatter or burst into flames as some people were afraid of because it's got a partially magnesium alloy. hahaha.

    The Professional Ordnance Carbon 15 rifle was a really good attempt at a very lightweight, accurate, dependable rifle.
    My 2001 model has a 16" fluted stainless barrel and bolt carrier, a steel full length top rail and very low iron sights. The carbon fiber handguard has slot cut outs for weight and cooling.
    The only downside is do Not let it heat up too much. You'll catch the carbon fiber reciever on fire! But for a house gun it's hard to beat. Too bad they went under. Bushmaster bought them and used an aluminum upper receiver, but they just couldn't sell enough. The the AR craze hadn't really taken off yet.
    She shoots 1" groups at 100 yards.

    Maybe this why bcm isnt making the original kmr anymore? The Magnesium/ aluminum alloy doesnt look too strong.
    New full aluminum is stronger, and mlok is even more rigid than keymod

  • @James_Edward59
    @James_Edward59 5 лет назад

    No one was expecting the Handguard to not bend like that after being beaten, the job was just to make sure it ran fine and didn’t effect the operation of the rifle. It mess up the sight alignment but you can adjust aim for that.

  • @ILruffian
    @ILruffian 9 лет назад +1

    Love my 5 BCM carbines. That being said, the ELWF barrel + KMR 13 handguard gets HOT very fast. It can quickly become uncomfortable even when wearing gloves. Moreover, we're coming up on a year and a half since the KMR stuff released and the Keymod rail covers are still vaporware. I know that Paul is dedicated to quality and won't release a product until it is right. That's why I'll continue to buy BCM rifles and no others. Still, I'm leaning toward going to standard barrels and M-LOK rails (the rail covers are actually available) on my BCM guns to deal with the heat issue.

      Justin Spencer with out optics, It was listed around 5:23 (price as featured) at 3,167.90. Still a pretty fair price considering the Eotech w/ 3x combination is around 1200 its self. www.eotechinc.com/holographic-weapon-sights/holographic-hybrid-sight-I-exps3-4-with-g33sts-magnifier

      I got an EOTech 516 for a steal since they're discontinued, then bought the G33 separately. I look for deals cause I'm a cheapass but that's beside the point. The two in a combo are absolutely perfect for almost any application the gun can be used for. Turns a 0-200 yard gun into a 0-500 yard gun, considering humanoid targets. Especially with the BDC reticle like you linked to. And it still edges out at a little cheaper than the really high-end 1-6x scopes. and you can still use BUIS.

    • @_Mr.Sush_
      @_Mr.Sush_ 9 лет назад

      Oh yeah, that's a great combo. Pretty much any range realistically accessible by the rifle can be accomplished with it. I don't have the BDC variant myself, I actually just picked up the t-2 micro from larue Tactical. They had a good deal with a mount (www.laruetactical.com/aimpoint-micro-t-2). but it certainly looks to be an awesome edition to the Eotech line. Might make me reconsider the next time I'm in the market. They have another BDC variant with just 2 dots that covers 500 Yards (maybe meters) and in as well. 1200 is also on the high side (MSRP like you said). opticsplanet.com usually has good deals for the combo as well as other sites. I only linked directly to Eotech since they are the authoritative source to link too.

    Look at this super light 5.7lb maneuverable carbine. To continue with the light weight & easy maneuverability theme since id be completely illogical to put an Aimpoint T2 or Comp-M5 on top of a Battle Arms Development lower 1/3rd that all in is under under 5.5-7oz with another 2.5-3oz for Magpul pros Buis totaling less than 10oz,...and 4-5oz for a surefire 500lumen mini scout & instead the only logical choice is this “ultra light weight”(Heavy Sarcasm) EoTech EXPS3-0&G33 Magnifier set with a mere combined weight of 22-24oz which defiantly does(NOT) exemplifies n maximize all the strengths this BCM 14.5” ELW has going for it..... 🙄
    My primary defensive rifle I shoot more than anything else is a 16” BCM BFH-ELW with Fde bcm bcg, 15” Fde kmr-a keymod rail with factory complete Fde bcm lower which typically sports a Aimpoint Comp M5, FDE-Inforce WMLx Weapon light on Bcm offset mount, Fde Bcm keymod rail panel covers& Fde kag grip rounded off with Magpul pro irons and a blue force gear padded 2-point sling. To each their own, as I love the eotech reticle and overall they are a great company, with proven track record, yet since they have yet to addresses the significant drawbacks of its excessive weight& the very poor battery life...
    Aimpoint has smaller FOV yet hadn’t offered any variation in a reflex style sight not offered a model with a circle dot, for quick target acquisition.
    Enter the promising but yet to be proven Holosun’s HE512T-GR Elite, that would offer the same reticle. A minimum of 20k/50k hr +(With solar panel to extend the battery life, further) Offering a totally sealed body made of 7075 Aluminum impact resistant coating, that also ipx8 water proofed , which completely surrounds any of the potential areas debris could block the Fov the reticles projected on, with a green reticle that’s easier for he human eye to pick up, and while some may roll their eyes at a “premium” line from Holosun, IF this optic can develop a proven track record, while improving on the concept eotech pioneered, yet address almost all of the drawbacks, that make some like myself shy away from eotech when looking for an optic that can be left on, with an annual battery change and just know it’s gtg. While the weight may only be slightly lighter than the exps3-0 by itself, Until Aimpoint or Trijicon chooses to offer the best of both worlds but putting a circle/dot reticle in an Aimpoint micro/Mro sized package, to bring to market a variation with great battery life, track record, compact light weight, and the rugged durability both companies are known for, its safe to say, the next couple years as technology evolves and becomes more affordable that ever that it will be interesting to see if Aimpoint, Trijion& eotech will rise to the challenge n offer something that’s a stronger more durable option similar in concept to Holosun’s HS503GU-Gr Elite, or if daring to stray from the norm will pay off and allow Holosun premium line to compete with the Mro and 30mm Patrol model?
    Not saying A sub 200$ holosun snd Aimpoint comp 5 are in same category durability n track record, only that they clearly are an innovative company that will force the big boys to take a second look at their product kind and the features they offer which hopefully will allow the consumer to have more options & features increasing durability and quality while the competition may reduce the price of quality red dots since a select few manufacturers don’t have a monopoly on the market any longer.

    That rail looks flimsy and i'm not sold on the idea of trimming meat from the barrel. Less meat = less durability and lifetime round count. I hate the fact that BCM puts their logo on everything in goofy bright white lettering. Its hard for me to get sold on their milspec battle rifle image when they sell a rifle marked up like a sponsor wall.

      Actually to be honest I like the way my BCM shoots and feels only slightly more than the DD V11, but the DD V11 has proven more reliable thus far, my BCM absolutely will not shoot steel cased ammo, the DD shoots it all day long, my BCM Will not seat a full 30 round mag at all with the bolt forward, if I lock the bolt back than put the FULL 30 round mag in and let the bolt ride home, pull trigger and fire I get a malfunction every time, so I have to put only 28 rounds in my mag to prevent malfunction, if I do that its rock solid, but it still should malfunction on a full mag and I've talked to BCM About it and they are playing dumb.

      +Sasmodog I have the V11 PRO and inserting a fully loaded 30 round mag is no issue, and yes, it will eat anything you feed it. I hope that BCM steps up their game on customer service if thats the case and takes care of the issue so that you get your money's worth. I know DD would not hesitate to solve any issues their customers may encounter. DD treats customers like family as does S&W.... Good luck sir....

      Map Led Exactly...but apparently, as the tool from RECOIL says, doing that would be "just beyond me"...as if WE are the idiots for wanting a little more on the handguard. I am not a big fan of the look of barebones keymod, and would probably add a few ounces of rail and rail covers that block sun+overheat that I've been seeing on the market lately. Plus, the rails I'd invest in won't bend. Maybe he shouldn't run his mouth about how adding a minor couple ounces of sturdy to that handguard is just so "beyond him"

  • @steelerisse8105
    @steelerisse8105 9 лет назад

    everyone complaining about the bent rail need to get a grip. Enough with the keyboard warriors and be realistic with yourselves if that's even possible... Are you going to put your rifle through that kind of abuse??? The average civilian wont, so...... I'm not a fan of key-mod whatsoever, but I can appreciate a good product. Their shit is top notch compared to manufacturers like LWRC & Warsport who charge 2 or even 3x for their products. BCM specifically said they're looking into ways on lightening up their weapon systems' without sacrificing quality. Their KMR rails were a result and are a blend of magnesium and aluminum alloys which is what help shed the weight along with all the lightening cuts of the key-mod slots. Then there's there lightweight and Enhanced Lightweight barrels. Are you going to complain they heat up to fast? Can't have those now too... Most of you asshats INCLUDING MYSELF won't even hit sustained cadences of fire long enough for the barrel to deviate on accuracy so you can shut the fuck up on that avenue as well... They make products that are entrusted by law enforcement and our armed forces and you're giving them shit for that? If you're so worried, they now offer their rails in 100% aluminum, so if you're so hell bent and butt hurt on your rails bending for "abuse" you'll never see, quit whining and go grab a KMR Alpha or their standard profile barrels...

    • @JustinianPrvni
      @JustinianPrvni 9 лет назад

      +Steele Risse No, you need to get a grip. The point wasn't that the rail got dented to hell, most people would expect that of an extremely LW handguard and accept it as a tradeoff. The point was trying to hide it. "But... is it robust enough?" "Guess it is." Nope, sorry, off buying DD SLiM.

    That was alot of bullshit. Buy a rifle to use as a sledgehammer & a club. Is this what it takes to sell your product? Or is it that some people think that they're some type of commandos or operators on death missions after they get off work at 5pm. This type of promotion has arrived at the point of being absurd. The same can be said about getting everything so light. It's difficult to have a gun be featherweight and robust at the same time. Thank you all the same I'll take my rifle above 6 but below 7lbs.

    IMO most people want a 16" barrel not a 14.5" pinned and most people want a medium profile barrel like your 14.5 Mid EMWF just in a 16"length, honestly no one wants a pencil barrel light weight or the Government profile for sure!
