"I wait up in the dark....for you to speak to me" spoken from a teenage boy to the deceased farther he never knew...it just crushes my heart EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Wow! I do wonder at times and my attention is not focused solely on Eddie because he can piss me off at times but the rest of the guys pull it together as musicians that I would listen to for hours.
Lifelong Chicagoan here. Coming off seeing them at Wrigley on the 29th and 31st of August. Opened up with Release Thursday. Emotions all off over the place! So good! I was at this show as well.
This is my favourite PM song... and when I finally got to see them in my home town (Arnhem NL 2006) they opened with Release... I was almost front row and cried like a little kid...
Amazing reaction thank you thank you...my favorite band of all time seen them 45 times and never never been disappointed. I cried like a kid when I saw them live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being inducted.
Saw him in 2019 at Ohana and he said "my voice feels good" . Boy, did he prove it. People jump on him for drinking and smoking but I figure he's still out there doing it at a high level where many of his contemporaries are not. I think people need to leave him alone. And, the band is still together! Amazing musicians, each one in their own right. Few bands can say the same after 30 years. 💕
I've never been able to listen to the song without tears coming to my eyes. When it first came out back in 1991 you know.. I was 11 years old back then. And here it is the end of February 2022 I'm still listening to it and it still brings tears to my eyes every goddamn time I hear it. So beautiful. Bittersweet beautiful.
I love how just before he starts singing the song he says John . So unbelievably heart warming how pearl jam give back to people and care . Will always love Eddie what an amazing spirt of a human being he is .
I agree. He sings this song with so much passion. This song is used in the movie “Out of the Furnace” and it’s a perfect fit. Great actors in an original film with this song. A classic you can enjoy over and over🤙🤙🤙
I've never heard another artist 30+ years past past their prime sound as good as Eddie here. Release is a hard song to sing for a 20 year old.....ffs he's a legend.
I bought 10 the first day it came out, and I heard this song, and it has been a song that I listen to whether it’s the album version or watching a live version at least once a week since the album was released. This is hands-down the best song Pearl Jam has ever done if not one of the greatest songs ever written. Cast aside the amazing music and instruments, the lyrics and his voice are so emotional that I end up crying every time I hear it. This song saved my life.
It repairs some of the damage done to my heart from years of trying times to see people, especially an amazing woman as yourself, that truly loves music. I see that same look in the eyes of people who live music when they hear a song or see concert footage that sparks something in their soul only music has the power to do.
I saw Pearl Jam in 1991. They just released their first song. I had not heard the release yet. My friend had 2 tickets to see them in Toronto Canada. The venue held about 600 people. They played the complete 10 album. I was in awww and the rest is history. The next time I saw them was with 45000 people. They changed music and my life.
Oceans, release, wishlist, no way I could pick one song I love more than others out of all their work. Indifference, wma, I’ll stop. Many popular and more as great but relatively unknown
Just saw them 3 times the past 2 weeks. Once in St. Paul, and twice in Chicago. Then saw them last year in Oklahoma City. Once you start you can’t stop.
Just got home from a Pearl Jam show in Chicago ( my home town ) at the United center. This was my 10-12 PJ show and I’ve been so lucky that they always open with this masterpiece. This song just makes me 😢😢😢. I’m a big fan of your channel. By the way I was at this show with my Dad. What a special night this was 😔
They opened with this in Melbourne, with the stage in total darkness years ago. It was spellbinding. I’m in tears hearing it again, so beautiful. Thank you 🥰
Sounds the same and even better than the times I saw them live when I lived in Seattle in the 1980s and 90s. The best time in my life seeing all the groups form and become incredible bands! Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder have always spoken to me. Ive got to go to their next tour!
New to your channel. I really enjoy this. I also wanted to say what a amazing channel idea!!! I will sometimes sit back with a headset and dive into the past. Thank you
Saw PJ in Oakland, May 13, 2022, and they killed it. Eddie stepped to the mic with a “good evening” for the crowd as they opened with The Long Road and his voice rocked the arena. I don’t know how he’s done it all these years, but his voice still sounds amazing. Some people are just meant to sing. And some bands are just meant to be legendary.
This song is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. I believe this is track 11 off of their first album which came out in 1991. There's another track on there second album at the very end of it You should listen to him trying to remember the name of it but I can't off the top of my head but it is very similar... Indifference. That's the name of it indifference. I'm pretty sure it's at the end of the second album. Give that one a listen. It is part of my language.. Fucking amazing!
You're the only person on YT I've found doing a reaction to this version of Release. It's way better than the Holland 1992 version, IMO. Eddie is amazing.
Probably just me projecting, but It’s cool i feel like I can see when he was young he sang this sang so intensely and with a lot of tension in his body like he was really still struggling with this song. Now he looks like he’s kinda made peace with it, opens up his chest and sings it freely (and really, from a practical standpoint there’s no way he could’ve kept singing it that way his whole career without frying his vocal cords. Probably just learned to sing properly)
I related to this song when it was released in 91 as i lost my dad in 81 when i 13,it sucked but when i first heard this i thought it was written for me
I remember buying “Ten” on cassette at a Kemp Mill records in No.Va. at the end of 91 ( I was 20) & when I heard this song thru headphones for the 1st time I started to tear up 🤷🏼♂️🖤🥹🤤 dad issues & shit …y’all know 😉
@@catsarai-genxrewind5271 indeed, you may be interested in a side project that Siouxsie and the Banshees had called: The Creatures. Robert Smith of the Cure had a side project with them as well called: The Glove.
Fist PJ show was at Chicago Stadium, last concert played there before being torn down for the United Center, they opened with Release. I was captivated. Almost every show since in Chicago they open with release, not as of late, but in the past. One of their greatest songs in my opinion. Keep rockin Cat!
fellow gen-xer here. don't speak too soon about our guys losing their voice. a ton still going strong. Eddie and Maynard are two who haven't lost a step!
Young guys, If you EVER want to see what a woman looks like who is interested in you Please STUDY this video. She leans forward when he starts to sing, She tightens her lips in anticipation during the slow verses..... The hair flips that she does when Eddy starts to belt it out..., along with the head tilt, showing being vulnerable, and the batting of the eyes at each sentence eddy sings. THAT...That is a woman who is into you. replay it, study it and go out and have fun.
Seen them live one time. It was awesome though not the same music but it did have a bit of the Grateful Dead vibe. People in unison peacefully enjoying music. It was awesome to feel that again.
Speechless! I haven't seen another band retain this level live, ever. What is your favorite Pearl Jam song?
Once is my favorite with Why Go and Porch tied for a close second.
Excellent choices 👌
Radiohead....
Radiohead live. They are amazing live and that tells you a lot about a band...
Fav song..
Black
Or
Jeremy
Or
Oceans
I can't decide...
Great reaction! My favorite song by them is Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town. You should react to it!
That’s like asking me to choose my favorite child. 😉✌🏽
"I wait up in the dark....for you to speak to me" spoken from a teenage boy to the deceased farther he never knew...it just crushes my heart EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Greatest band ever, even better humans. ❤️
Wow! I do wonder at times and my attention is not focused solely on Eddie because he can piss me off at times but the rest of the guys pull it together as musicians that I would listen to for hours.
Well Ben Harper said that too
I've had the blessed fortune of meeting Eddie Vedder a few times, and yes.. he is a wonderful human. Truly.
I saw their 2016 in Detroit. the year my Dad died. I told my wife before we entered the show that I hope to hear Release! It was their first song.
I was there...one of my best moments in life
Lifelong Chicagoan here. Coming off seeing them at Wrigley on the 29th and 31st of August. Opened up with Release Thursday. Emotions all off over the place! So good! I was at this show as well.
If you go to a PJ concert and they open with this and it doesn't give you chills then you are not human.
This is my favourite PM song... and when I finally got to see them in my home town (Arnhem NL 2006) they opened with Release...
I was almost front row and cried like a little kid...
I will cry if I ever get to see them live
They are so good especially live
Amazing reaction thank you thank you...my favorite band of all time seen them 45 times and never never been disappointed. I cried like a kid when I saw them live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being inducted.
They really deserved a place there. And thank you 😊
The connection the band has with the audience is special, seen them over 30 times and no doubt they are special live!
I'm just so pleased they EV still sounds amazing. They all look great. Lots of musicians are ravaged by drugs and alcohol. Happy they are doing good!
Man save some tickets for the rest of us 😂
I was there, been to every pj Wrigley...gave me goosebumps when they played this
Pearl Jam Unplugged - Black is unbelievably great
Hunger strike sung by temple of the dog is another amazing track
Yes!!! Talent back then was raw and pure! Great times

Nothing better than Vedder! Great singers have come and gone... but he has been a constant for 30+ years, while staying humble!
He is truly an artist. Love him
This is one of my favorite PJ songs; Eddie is the greatest and has so much talent and emotion.
I love how much you love the music and can see it in your expressions. Thanks for sharing with us fellow Gen Xers!
I love how just before he starts singing the song he says John . So unbelievably heart warming how pearl jam give back to people and care . Will always love Eddie what an amazing spirt of a human being he is .
That Eddie Vedder can sure sing. ~chills~

30+ years past their prime? Eddie is NOW 58 years old. So he hit his prime at less than 28 years old?; I don't know what planet you live on.

Not many bands bring me to tears...PJ are so much more than the average rock band!
I dont care how old i get,This song and black will forever make me tear up. Greatest grunge band of all time
Just saw them 3 times the past 2 weeks. Once in St. Paul, and twice in Chicago. Then saw them last year in Oklahoma City. Once you start you can’t stop.

Agreed! One of the original songs that drew me to PJ!!! Well done!
My favorite song of theirs. Eddie sounds fantastic and the band is still feeling it too.
Was there at the show. Sadly the last time I've seen them. Hopefully again soon!

This song brings on the greatest feelings of elation and sadness I've possibly ever experienced in music. Fucking beautiful.
my absolute favorite song to sing.
I love your loving expression of the song. Beautiful
Good guys. Loved them since high school.

You Right, indifference. Ohne of the best ones
If they come to Melbourne, then I'm there. Every time.
Will be listening to them till I die and even after that at my funeral! Love them forever.
To tears every time
One of the great voices of all time!! Check out Eddie Vedder doing Porch at Global Citizens Festival a couple of years ago.. It's Epic
Let's go, damn right greatest band of all time
Best Pearl Jam song ever.
You're the only person on YT I've found doing a reaction to this version of Release. It's way better than the Holland 1992 version, IMO. Eddie is amazing.
I’m so thankful to experience this song live. Seeing them preform this in 91 then 2018 was amazing
My favorite Pearl Jam song of all time Eddie is just not human lol he’s amazing
Thank you so much for this 🙏❤️
They opened with Release this past 9/11 IN New York City, lot of tears
The 1992 live version is phenomenal
Seeing them perform this live is a truly religious experience.
I was fortunate to see them perform this song live at MSG on 9/11 last year. It was an overwhelmingly cathartic experience
Love that song
Saw them in Indianapolis in 2003 for my bday. Was such a great show. 👍
Beautiful!
Helluva good guy! Helluvan amazing performance!! Thousands singing along with Eddie. And all for John. Hope he made it through his "stuff" ok.
Eddie Vedder is so different, in appearance and sound, than he was when he broke onto the scene. Yet it's still great.
I was at this show, and YES it was amazing!
Perfect reaction 😊

5:11 I can say they are the best thing that’s happened in my musical life
Love this live version. I recall seeing Temple of the dog and Chris covered this. A FRICKEN MAZING!!!!!!

March 10, 1994. I was there. Absolutelt epic.
Love it.
I think it's safe to say, the best decades are those that can not be mimicked in the future...
Beauty...by a beautiful man!
Doesn’t get Eddie Vedder than this!!
The funny thing is I first thought you forgot to put a word in lol
It's such a touching song as well Eddie vedder dedicating a song to his proper dad who he never met because he died while his mum was pregnant
They opened with this in Chicago on Thursday.
And it was absolutely awesome.
this song reminds me of my dad before he died and how i wanted to know if he was proud of me before he died
Happier times...
I always loved Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam’s remake of it too.
My favorite Pearl Jam song is rearview mirror, notable mention would be corduroy but I love them all
He definitely sounds great still! Though I couldn't help but be reminded of Goat Boy. Lol
And the man smokes!
fellow gen-xer here. don't speak too soon about our guys losing their voice. a ton still going strong. Eddie and Maynard are two who haven't lost a step!
Ahh the goosebumps..yep this is 2016..Let's Play Two..i was at both 2018 and Release was played in Boston not Wrigley unfortunately for me lol
Im really hoping the rumors of them going on tour 2024 is true! I need to see them live!
Oh dear dad
Can you see John now?
Heartbroken how sweet that was....
This is my all time favorite PJ song (you know EV wrote the song for me:) ). This version is incredible!
Just the fact you are reacting to a Pearl Jam, you deserve a thumbs up
Thank you. Granted, there's no doubt his vocal chords were better in the early 90's, but it was a wonderful performance, and I loved it. .
