I love Eternal Sonata. I find security in the fact that Clemps derives some form of enjoyment out of Dirge of Cerberus, and thus cannot give me *shit* about the above statement.
But honestly, while playing, I watched Claves, half-perplexed at why this dumbass spent an entire scene monologuing and flashbacking instead of, I dunno, _finding a god damn antidote?_ Well, if there's anything that can rival how much I love the game's setting and music, then it's how much I love just *wailing* on its idiocy.
It's weird. I know I HEARD all of your legitimate complaints about this game, and I agreed with them, but then I saw visible damage numbers ranging in the tens of thousands, and suddenly I couldn't remember any of them. When I woke up, the game was in my hand and my wallet was lighter.
It's interesting that the dream factor is what made it meaningless for you. For me I the figured the game was about Chopin coping with the sickly life he led and his rapidly approaching death and completing the game is essentially allowing him to finally pass on having grieved healthily. The dream is the last chance at closure for a man who was very physically ill most of his life. Really good video!
yes but those don't work well when you perform them on yourself. A healer here so I know from experience. Putting your mind into someone else body is much much easier than yourself. You have to visualise and takes even more time while people are around just a mindset is enough. It's like you are not allowed to heal yourself from the universe otherwise you would have infinite life
@@capcom23 you know there’s Psi Factor Episode in the first season that said exactly that Call The Healer.., but it wasn’t really a spell just more that he can feel their pain & make them recover in seconds!, but there was a catch... if the the pain was greater then him, he can catch them all at once & DIE! ... sorry 😐 that did happen in the ending of that episode, so as they say one cannot bite off more they can chew! Even in the power to heal.
Same, it's still my fav game, however, I still have complaints, especially in the gameplay. I loved the gameplay of the XBox version, but I didn't like the changes they made in the PS3, like making the like changing the positions of the foes on the map and making the difficulty harder on normal. And even in the original, there was the unfortunate trope of "difficulty spikes", but it was worse in the PS3. I had to grind more in order to have a chance at certain bosses, especially since I at least wanted to get 100% completion (yes I did Encore). So I'd rather play the XBox version, even though PS3 has more content and better changes to the story. I just love the setting, the complex story telling, and the romance. Music and art are gorgeous and it made me laugh. Astra of the Heart is still one of my fav pieces of video game music (and it's on my playlist). My theory with the 'dream' is that Chopin's soul just traveled to another dimension. Time travel exists, so why not dimensional travel? Like I said, I love complex ideas and stories, heck it's why I love Kingdom Hearts so much hahaha.
While I can see the flaws, I really liked Eternal Sonata. Somehow I found the whole premise just fascinating. I liked learning about Chopin's live by playing a JRPG. Falsetto is #1 grill.Above all, the game is really fun, the light/dark special moves and combat mechanics just work very well. The art style and music is easy 10/10.
+Clemps This is a really fun review, and I guess I'l check out the game despite the stupid plot. But do you know any better JRPGs? For me, The PS3 is only good for games like God of War, Batman Arkham, and GTA games.

Something you should have mentioned was that between chapters you get a little history lesson about Chopin's life. It stops the game completely in its tracks but I like history so I enjoyed it.

I love this game.... it's corny and the story is dumb and half the later introduced characters are hardly developed but I enjoyed it.... it's a beautiful game and the battle system is a creative spin on turn based.
Despite the fact that the game had many flaws, I loved it and I still love it. I played it when I was 11/12 and it still holds a special place in my heart ❤️
I love this game so much. It was my first JRPG and the only game I’ve done multiple playthroughs for But I was only 8 or 9 when I first played it and as I got older and replayed it yearly, I started to see its flaws. I still really love it though and still listen to the music Ah, and searching for reviews brought me to your channel, so that’s something amazing that came outta it years later. I found this gem of a channel :3
Death scene was truly the best part of this video. I remember the first time I saw prune brothers video on efukt and laughed so hard I think I almost fainted
These videos are great. I never had the time or patience for JRPGs but I think they're really intriguing. These make me feel like I've a game I actually never have. Kudos.
How I see it, if a person enjoyed the experience, then it isn't necessarily a waste of time, regardless. Kind of. Playing a video game is considered wasting time, but if a person didn't like the game, then that's even worse.
I appreciate the honesty. For me, the story makes the game. Now, it doesn't have to be particularly complex, simple stories are good too, but if a story is going to tell me that nothing I do in the game matters, then my motivation simply goes out the window. If the game doesn't care, then why should I?
Someone please tell me what song that is at 2:33 when he's running around like a chimp in the field. I know I've heard it before but I can't remember what it is or where it's from.
The ending cutscene to this game was legit like an hour long or at least it felt like it was. I felt like I was slowly dying every time I had to watch any of the cutscenes.

I understand your frustration with the story, but I had so much fun with the combat and enjoyed the visual and especially the music to such a degree that I didn't have much trouble looking past it. This game also got me back into jrpg's around 2010 after FFXII and Enchanted Arms got me off them. No idea if the game holds up that well after all this time.

That ending looks significantly better than the ending on the 360 version. Waltz actually dies in the first encounter (with no death cutscene, he was just implied to die from the fight, it felt really bittersweet) and his servant turns into the giant dragon as an act of betrayal, becoming the final boss of his own accord. After you beat him and Chopin (I never actually lost to Chopin so I don't know if that version had that ending or not), you see Polka fall off the cliff, and then get a long slew of cutscenes where every character talks over that black background where all they do is rehash the small bits of character development they've had over the game. Then it just kind of ends. No real explanation about what happens or anything.
Sera Young i lost to chopin and just got a game over. Theres no extra endings :/. I was wondering about that shit in the video, like maybe i fucked up my file somehow because ending shit happened different for me?
I hope this channel will grow and you will post more videos because God damn, your videos are really funny and I'm almost certain that you would get to at least 50k subs by the end of maybe even this year.
Ive actually found this game to be quite an enjoyable one if you don't think too hard and nitpick the details, you can kind of take the story as Chopin coming to terms with his death, I mean throughout the game you get these neat little "breather" moments where they play some of Chopin's scores and give you mini history lessons on his life, I...actually teared up a little bit, his life was pretty hard and I genuinly felt sorry for the guy, and that's saying something since I'm not much of a History Nerd. also with the bad end its actually Chopin wakes up then immediately dies, essentially destroying/reseting the dreamworld and passing on in ours.
A YMS fan, aren't we, Clemps? Nobody else could recognize the greatness of Neil Breen. Haven't played this game yet. Been sitting on my shelf forever. But it looks gorgeous and I don't mind the insano-level of japanese RPGs, so I might as well give it a try at some point and build my own opinion. As usual, your video is simply hilarious. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite content producers. I wish I had a similar output.
Loved this game, played it years ago when it was one of the free games on xbox, and recently started playing it for the 2nd time. The battle system was amazing, the acting was pretty good, the story was great, and the graphics were incredible.
I didn't even play JRPG games prior to this one and found it incredibly enjoyable. As you stated, the graphics are exceptional and the game play is uniquely fun. Yes, the cut scenes are a bit overboard and the story is long and overly complicated. Nevertheless, I found myself playing this game several times over utilizing different sets of three each time. Plus, don't forget about the secret dungeon (the Mysterious Unison) located in the Oasis. The dragons there are worthy opponents!
I picked up this game as a kid because of the graphics and the music concept, I actually have a soft spot for this game despite its flaws. I had no idea there was more than one ending though! (I hardly used Frederick so he was pretty easy) great video though, got a good chuckle out of me, especially the Aladdin references
I played and beat this game back int he day and all I remember about it is: Dope character designs, Cool battle system, Terrible ending credits and falling in love with Chopans music.
I actually quite liked Eternal Sonata, though I know it's not a great game. It definitely meanders around endlessly, and the endless flashbacks really killed me at times, but I like so many of its ideas. The execution is an inconsistent mess, but it definitely stands out to me as a game that tried a bunch of interesting things. I really like the premise, and I am a fan of Chopin, so maybe this game was just made specifically for me. Oh, and God bless Viola.
Honestly i wouldnt expect the everyday person to understand but this game is best off of the writings of the composer he was extremely depressed and anti social and created this fantasy world who ever made the game was obviously a fan of his
Have you any idea of how ridiculous the characters' names could seem to an Italian?! When you introduced them I was in part saying "No . . . Oh, no . . . Please no!", and in part laughing so hard to almost have stomach ache.
By the way, Polka is a word in Polish that describes a female Pole. Like, "American" can be said about a person, but it also implies that the person is female. It's hard to explain since English doesn't have gender nouns..
That death scene is like they decided on 5 or 6 death scenes for her, but couldnt decide which to use so just had them all in a row.
The thing is, I haven't watched the video yet, I haven't played the game in over a decade, and yet I know exactly what scene you are referencing.
And what scene is this?
Fun fact: Chopin famously suffered schizophrenic psychosis later in his life, throwing an interesting spin on the story.

This game is sooooooo beautiful, I aways wanted to try it.
What's that song at 14:25?
>Wild Arms music
Good taste
Loved this game, played it years ago when it was one of the free games on xbox, and recently started playing it for the 2nd time. The battle system was amazing, the acting was pretty good, the story was great, and the graphics were incredible.
I loved this game
Those sounds effects at 8:03 had me dying yo HAHAHA
The transition to the 7th console generation was rough on JRPGs. I don't miss that time at all.
Brave Fencer Musashi, is that you?!?!?! 1:14
7:50-8:10 I thought these movements were endearing until I heard the noises you attached to them. Hardest I've laughed in a while.
.....why do all of these characters sound like they're voiced by *ProZD* ..? lol
Haha i guess when it comes to this joke ...THIS ENEMY GOT...THE POINT!
...ill see myself out 🚶🏾♂️
I actually quite liked Eternal Sonata, though I know it's not a great game.
So the Narrators voice (In the game not Clempsy) for Eternal Sonata sounded SUPER familiar. Turns out its Sojiro, aka Coffee Dad from Persona 5.
11:58 Prune Brothers..................I thought I would never hear that name ever again in my life..................
holy shit
I love this game
Which is why I'm quitting at 8:08. So I don't have to deal with this anymore
By the way, Polka is a word in Polish that describes a female Pole.
Like, "American" can be said about a person, but it also implies that the person is female.
It's hard to explain since English doesn't have gender nouns..
