    Hey folks! Hope this video’s length is an indication as to where I’ve been for the past month and a bit. Turns out Bravely Default is not a quick thing to break down! Thank you so much for your patience, and I really hope you enjoy the episode. If you want to support me outside of liking, subscribing and sharing, you can do so by pledging to me on Patreon! Definitely helps make longer videos like this possible. The link can be found in the description if you’re interested. :)

    • @icarue993
      @icarue993 3 года назад +10

      And then you lose (player's fault, not auto lose). Although I admit I found Airy way stronger that Ouroboros. I had to "cheese" Airy by combining jumping and auto revives and good timing. I used the same strat with Ouroboros and killed him first try. At which point the track went from "Aha, I have a good strat" to "Aha, I have a good strat, but the music IS SO GOOD!!".
      A game that literally went "You can't lose" was Undertale, where you can't lose, you revive immediately. Which knowing the amount of 4rth wall breaking BD does, it wouldn't surprise me that BD inpired him.

    • @andrea0258hu
      @andrea0258hu 3 года назад +5

      As someone that beat the game with the level cap of 59, I can say that nothing beat the fire party sub quest in term of cheese or lose when you have less hp and speed to work with. The only fight that I was forced to cheese it. As someone who mess with everything to find interesting strategy, I can say jump stats are bad as the start of the jump have lower priority which mean you act always last(unless I remember incorrectly) while the attack work properly with your speed which mean if you are faster than your enemy, you dodge nothing.

    • @icarue993

      @@andrea0258hu I had to alternate people to make the strat effective. Have like half in the air and half on land. Atleast someone has to be in the air at all times. There's where the skill part of the "cheese" comes in.

    Serpent Eating the Ground might just be the single best track in a JRPG I've ever heard, not because it's an incredible final boss theme (though...it is), but because it combines so many leitmotifs you've heard throughout the game, and it absolutely sends shivers down my spine.
    Amazing story review, Clemps! Your best work yet!

      I've got an unpopular opinion here, but I think Its overrated.
      I'd been able to hear all the main characters' themes constantly in every fight through out the entire game, at the whim of whenever I used a special move, so I don't really get why hearing it as part of the final boss theme is a big deal. Personally it fell flat for me and I was disappointed to have a good chunk of the track just be repeated music that I could've played on command anyways.
      I liked the Airy battle themes though, she really felt like the true final boss to me.

    • @dantemzsz
      @dantemzsz 3 года назад +17

      @@NintendoFan7141 The reason why the special moves themes start it's because it's a way of simbolizing that you are giving your best in the final battle, when you hear those themes you feel powerfull, so listening in the final boss it's the same effect

      @lukrio99990 2 года назад

      I totally get that! The fact that the track is so long as well represents the fight well too. The agonizing fight and how brutal the beginning parts sound, slowly begin to show cracks of hope. And by the time the character lietmotiefs kick in, the absolute slog that drained you is revitalized and reinvigorates you to keep fighting. Don't give up. The end part of ringabels theme moving into that swell is such a "All together now!!" Moment, and while maybe cliche it never fails to make the hairs on my neck stand on end

      Same! The differences across worlds, with different asterisk boss teamups and character moments, story changes, and with the fake ending sprinkled in at the start of Chapter 7, made me feel it was 'worth' it. You get some interesting insight and unique dialogue from some bosses when facing them out of order too. And you can fly through the required bosses quickly (bar the dungeon bits), so even that's not a huge blocker.

      What i liked about Bravely Default is that even through the story is a little bit broken ( for me the good ending should be when you break the cycle ) it has a geniusly good idea !
      I'm under the impression Bravely Second will be much more generic than that from a story perspective. ( And Bravely Default II doesn't seems better )

      @@Haganeren In my opinion, Bravely Second actually has the best story in the series. While the game is often lighter in tone, and bordering on camp at times, it takes the various elements of BD1’s story and expands upon them in a way that feels both natural and fresh. The main party is arguably more dynamic in this game, with our main protagonist being about as far away from your standard JRPG protagonist as you can get.
      The fourth wall breaking for story purposes is used so much more powerfully here as well. If you think the game using the camera during the final boss fight to put you into the narrative was cool and inventive, then your mind is gonna get blown during the final boss fight of Bravely Second.

      While I absolutely LOVE the gameplay and music in this game, and the relationships between the characters are far more complex than you normally ever see in a video game, I can’t help but think that the game was somehow rushed during development.
      A few key characters aren’t properly fleshed out, the ending chapters are somewhat disjointed, and what feels like a major bit of foreshadowing in the prologue... never seemed to actually get addressed. (Also on a personal note; really disappointed that they didn’t bring back something along the lines of Yew’s Diary in this game. So much missed character and world building.)
      Seriously though? Go buy the game. Other than Xenoblade 2 it’s without a doubt the best JRPG the Switch has to offer

    My take on Braev Lee - I definitely agree that a lot of his actions don't make a lick of sense in the grand scheme of things, he's not only a terrible father but also a pretty bad ruler. The only possible reason I can think of is that he's just plain prideful. He refused to tell Edea the truth because he wanted to shelter her as much as possible after she got herself wrapped up with the literal harbinger of the apocalypse. He wanted a daughter who would just sit and do as told... which... is not Edea. At all. It's not an excuse to justify his actions, f*cking no way in hell does being an arrogant dickhead justify not being upfront and honest with his own daughter, but it is at least the best explanation I can think of and might also help explain why a lot of Eternian Factions have next to no, or just flat out no respect for the guy. That lack of respect he gives to his own family might be a reflection of how he treats his own subordinates.

      @@gnohman8580 Exactly this. I loved seeing all of the bosses team up in different ways, sometimes even nonsensically. I'll never forget the weird-ass combo of the ranger wolf girl, summoner, and Victoria having a tea party before fighting you.

      Even though it was repetitive I was loving the story thus far and I trusted the writers to give me some sort of payoff if I was just patient enough. I understand that not a lot of people like doing repetitive things in their games, but I'd say that if you were to entertain the notion that story is trying tell you something you'll find that there is something to be gained. In this case you'd ask, "Why is the game fucking with me?" when really it's trying to tell you something without it specifically telling you what it is, it's not fucking with you.

    I was JUST thinking about Bravely Default content when this video shows up. You, sir, are a gift to the community.
    Fun aside note: one of the reasons why I was excited for the original game's release was the fact that I had heard REVO's music on Attack on Titan previously and wanted an excuse to experience even more of his work.
    The story and cast were wonderful. (Stellar voicework.) Heck. Bringing back the Job system was enough to seal the deal for me.

    My
    Tiny pea brain has such a hard time comprehending this big brain story. But its really excited to rewatch the video over several times in the future and finally understand like the Nier videos.
    And it, high key, HIGH KEY, hopes Clemps will cover Bravely Second someday.
    Just really high key excited by all of this.

    Hey this video was awesome and totally worth the wait! Thanks for all the work you put into it and for commissioning that awesome comic! My eyes kinda glazed over when they dumped all that text at us explaining that part of the story, and I only caught about half of it when playing the game.

    This was incredible! Bravely Default is hands down one of my favourite gaming experiences ever. For years afterwards I would listen to the concert versions of the soundtrack on RUclips and find myself still tearing up in places - and this video captures that same magic. I had a GREAT time watching this and reliving it all over again. Thanks again for such great content!

    I did not see the 'Celestial Realm' when I finished my play thru. That was a genuine surprise. I loved the multidimensional nonsense fot the latter portion of the story, even going out of the way to re-fight all the Job Bosses in each recycle in case they had something different to say (they didn't).

    Spectacular work! I have never seen a video game story review go so deep, keep the humor, and come out in a positive manner. Normally if it's comedic it is *forced* to be negative, but you tied your brand of humor beautifully into this story and the amount of passion and love that went into this is greatly appreciated. The cutscenes *you asked to be created* for this video are outstanding, the attention to detail you added was wonderful, and your giddiness while telling this beautiful story makes this one of the best reviews I've ever seen.
    I never took offense to the world cycling. To me it made sense from a story perspective and to see more into the Eternian Knights backstories was also nice. On Hard Mode the new fights become a real challenge and the new techniques and battle formations always kept me guessing and strategizing. Perhaps I adore the grind though, which may be different to many other people.

    The worst part of the repeating chapters is that, if you dare to think for yourself and disobey Airy's bs ... You get the false ending. No, instead you have to play along with the characters because ... Reasons ? They don't even make any plan to prepare for the big bad or anything, they just keep following orders until the game decides "Ok, final boss time now !" out of nowhere.

    Watched this video immediately after finishing the game. I had no idea the 3DS camera was used at the end as I was playing in a dark room >.< Great overview of the game story!
