Honestly Xehanort has just reached completely ridiculous tier as a villain at this point. He feels like Zoom, that one flash villain who goes back in time and is responsible for every single bad thing to ever happen to him.

@@ElectricBarrier exactly. It's honestly some good old fashioned 'fairies stealing your name' mythology bullshit, but trying to explain in literal physical terms like wearing it was dumb.
That feeling when pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of the sky had simpler explanation for time travel.
That being said this was my first Kingdom Hearts and i still love it.
@Tum Tum You must be little when you played it. The god's time can sent you back in time, like they do in EVERY other pokemon story. Celeibi always make's people time travel and dialaga was the only one "new" to make people time travel. You know the main antagonist of the game being the ruler of time not using time travel is what's stupid.

Jesus, Sora has so much shit in him. I remember buying and playing DDD when it came out despite not having played a lot of the other KH games. My favourite memory is of when I started up the game and then went "... huh, what?" during the first cutscene.

Sora is the most literal example of The World Ends With You, he's got an entire hub town of old characters inside him. How long until he's playing with keyholes inside himself, as he's attained 'internal universe' status and his heart is its own kingdom.
If he takes that final step and becomes Zeroken from Disgaea 5, I will die laughing.

What did she and sora fight at the end? That couldn’t have been actually master xehanort because it took place during the real fight!
Sora getting to share the pain with all the people’s he has had on ice in his heart was pretty emotional. Seeing him endure through all of Roxas’ memories is one that always stuck with me.
Possible reasoning for why Riku goes into Sora's dream: If you notice during the Destiny Island cutscene when they open the first keyhole as both of them raise their keyblades, Riku's eyes are open while Sora keeps his head down.
No idea why Riku being awake means he double dips into the dream worlds. Also my memory is foggy but I specifically remember believing Riku's worlds feeling like they actual ended compared to Sora's, as if he's completing what Sora believes should've have happened.
But how does Riku closing his eyes mean that he drops into sora'a dreams? It said that he was able to do it because he wanted to protect Sora, but that's not an explanation as to how he even managed to do it himself. Did riku have the power of waking the entire time and didnt know it
@@BabyGirlTiny I said that Riku's is open meaning he is awake while Sora is implied to be asleep, or at least passed out since you know boat crash or whatever. And yeah that's not even a good explanation as I already have said, since it's not like he actively "aims" at Sora they were going in the same direction. This "theory" is more or less me making my own explanation from a subtle visual that I haven't seen many people talk about.
Obviously I'm not Nomura nor do I have access to his hidden stash of psychedelics so whatever he tells us, as you mentioned Riku's desire to protect Sora, is what we get and there is not much we can do rationalize a "minor" part of the story that will surely make a return in the next installment. God bless Kingdom Hearts and Nomura destroyer of canon.
Seeing The World Ends With You in Kingdom hearts makes me wonder if we could get more square Enix franchises in KH. Such as NeiR, Chrono Trigger, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest, etc.
God, Nier characters in KH would be such a weird combo it would give us mental whiplash XD
Nomura doesn't really seem interested in franchises that he didn't work on.

And if anything, the only way I can see NeiR Automata characters fitting is if they appear in a Wall-E world. Both the Wall-E film and NeiR Automata share similar concepts surprisingly so I think it fits perfectly.

More like some things are not meant to be, and for the best of the greater good; that they do not exist. It's like do you let the kid who just got severely injured asking for death; live, because it makes you happy and feel like a good person or you give that kid sweet release for his own sake. Simple scenarios to see were your mortality is all it is.

@Boring Name they weren't strong willed enough to grow hearts. They were not put in a situation where they could form relationships and bonds needed for a heart to form. They serve him because he uses magic to make them do his bidding.

Hot Take: Dream Eaters are best aspects of 3D. I absolutely LOVED collecting them and finding out the special moves. My favs were the T-rex, the Skeleton T-rex, and the Lion ones.
I would have liked it a lot better if passive abilities like HP boosts or stat defense boosts weren't locked behind them (as in you need to keep that Dream Eater in your party to keep the boost).
Friendly reminder that Sora was robbed, ROBBED, so that Riku could run in this game. Loved the video! I think us fans are far more bitter about Sora's development than Sora himself is, lol
I was one of the people PISSED that he didn't become a master. He's done so much with that keyblade and beaten two manifestations of Xehanort already, saved the world several times, almost singlehandedly wiped out the Organization, and he doesn't get to be a master for what? So Riku could look cool? Fuck off, Nomura. It's like getting straight A's on every assignment and test but still failing the class because you fucked up the final exam. Sorry, it's a touchy subject for me.
Fun question: shouldn't Ventus be a princess of heart because his heart is pure light after Vanitas got life-o-suctioned out?

I know its a late reply but I think it doesnt technically count, because instead of being a "naturally pure light heart" like the princesses, his is artificially made into one, so the world(s) dont really treat him as such, except only for when forming the X-blade is concerned I guess.
I liked how in the scene after defeating Ursula, you can already see Sora being asleep, but Riku is awake. Sora keeps his head down and his keyblade arm seems to move instinctively whereas Riku actually looks up towards the camera and has his eyes open.

It's cuz "heart" is an allegory for "memories" in these games. Memories make up relationships, connections, emotions, identity, chosen actions, and personality, which is all shit covered in kingdom hearts' wacky metaphysics. That's how nobodies grow new 'hearts' (cuz it's made of memoriessss)
Ansem the wise said in his reports a person is comprised of a heart, body ,and soul. If hearts do what you said, what's the point of the soul? Shouldn't they just be the same thing?
@@chrisdaughen5257 it's a common misconception, actually. I used to think the same, but canon material points out souls and "hearts" are not the same thing. Its even a voice acted line in 3 by xehanort that they can take a heart, but they "don't need their soul."
If anything, Nobodies likely retain the soul of a person, but not their memories, meaning they lack a history and identity (hence the use of the term "nobody.")
As souls aren't a major element in the story thus far, they likely serve as just the lifeforce of a living entity.
@@OceanFragments it's the memories the person's will retains that gives their nobodies personality, which is why i think Roxas didn't retain Sora's soul, leading him to be the zombie that he was in the beginning of 358 days, while Axel is the exact same as Lea
@@unnamed_protagonist its likey that Nobodies are inclined to act similar to their original counterparts, but even namine lacked a will at first, due to having no memories. Roxas didn't have any connections with sora until Namine began re-arranging memories into him, to make him the orgs surrougate keyblade user. I should note that "connections" within this game manifest physically as chains. This includes on keyblades, which "connect" to the heart of a world. This is the meaning behind COM's title, as Namine was using her powers to tug at them.

I can't tell if you are agreeing with me or not, But Namine was a special case similar to Roxas in terms of lacking will, as she definitely didn't retain Kairi or Sora's soul. Axel states that Roxas acting like a zombie was not the norm for nobodies, not to mention Axel and Saix still remember their original goal and purpose for joining the organization, not to mention remembering their friendship. Nobodies do usually keep the memories of their original person. The main reason I usually bring up the Roxas lacked sora's will argument is because it's also my way to explain how Sora was able to come back from a heartless.
It always bugged me that Sora's heartless was not only super weak, but also a pureblood heartless. If it was weak due to sora not having much darkness, that's fine, but it still should have been an emblem heartless like a Soldier or something. My theory was that Sora's heart just went with Kairi's when he released it, and the heartless we play as was just a random nearby shadow that his will latched onto, pulling a lingering will, thus explaining why Sora still had control over himself as a heartless. When he found Kairi, his heart and will recombined, recreating him similar to how nobodies come back after dying. There has to be some mechanism to bring them back, and considering most nobodies retain the persons soul, ergo when you kill a nobody it's soul is released like a heartless releases the heart, it can be assumed that the act of the heart and soul recombining can recreate the body.

Real talk, how many people actually drop unintentionally? Drop-me-nots are so common, and none of the fights are long enough to actually drain a full drop gauge.
I really just don't get the mechanic. It's entirely ignorable. I just did Sora's segment until I was forced to switch to Riku, then rinse and repeat.
I think on a 1st time play through it can catch people off guard, but other than that it's an entirely unnecessary gimmick.
I didn't find it bothersome when I first played it. In fact I completely forgot about the drop.

Never, seriously I always found it weird that people would drop during combat. I always paid attention to the gauge before fights, so I never dropped during one. If you actually pay attention to it, the mechanic isn't hard to resolve.

Dream Drop Distance is where I ended up getting lost and giving up on the story of Kingdom Hearts. The game was all right with a guide so you know which Dream Eaters give which abilities.

DDD is basically Deathly Hallows Part 1, while 3/Re:Mind are Deathly Hallows Part 2. You get a cookie if can understand why.

But we got story so far and other summary reports to clearly explain time travel in this one. They just never look look it up and complained on and on in game where anything can happen.

I miss when Disney worlds were thematically consistent with Sora's journey. It looks like that's a thing again in KH3 so far. From 2 onward, they went from, "Sora look! These characters are going through the same struggles you are! Learn from them! That's the power of storytelling!" to just standing around like awkward tourists while the plot plays out unrelated.

This game, while fairly flawed, brought about the reason why I’ve still stuck around to the story.

DDD is a one and done type of game to me, but I can appreciate some elements like flowmotion and being able to play as Riku again. If they do end up making a “sequel” to DDD, I hope that they’ve taken the criticisms for this game into account! 😁

@always Nomura has always done that though. Malicifent was brought back in KH2 due to fan outcry back in the day. Chain of Memories got a remake due to fan outcry. The time limit for Dream Drop Distance HD’s drop meter was increased, making drops less frequent. Reaction commands are removed in KH3 due to the complaints of KH2 being too easy. A ton of things in the Re:Mind dlc was added due to fan complaints. I could go on.
Nomura has always listened.

Crisis Core and Birth By Sleep are on PSP, Zach is added in BBS.
The World Ends With You was on the DS, Dream Drop Distance is on the 3DS, Neku and crew were added in DDD.
I've had this thought for a decade and I loved that little detail on the system the KH game came out in. Now everything is on PS4 loosing the magic that people think they just added them because Namura wants them in to avoid the Squall crew.
i think this one had the weakest localization. you can see it in how some characters deliver their lines, like when Xigbar yells "Duh" when Sora figures things out when "Bingo" would've worked better. and when Riku sees Ansem again, a better line would've been "Wait? Ansem? But you're gone!"
God even now seeing TWEWY in this game hurts, I just want another one sooo bad
There better be a payoff for the new stuff in Final Remix and whatever that ending movie was in KH3.

DDD has an important place in my heart because of the weird way I got into the series. I watched play throughs of every game leading up to DDD, but had never played it for myself. So when the one play through I could find on RUclips stopped halfway through the game and I ended up watching a cutscene movie for the rest of it..... it was time. I had a 3DS so it was the perfect time to play the series I loved for myself. I hear you on all of the problems with it, but I still love it as my “first”, you know?

The dream eaters are my favorite kh enemies, due to their huge variety and the fact that they're based off of a creature from Japanese mythology: the Baku (though in the mythology they only come in one shape.).
For years I had no idea why Sora and Riku were children in DDD but now it all makes sense! (Sorta). I just assumed they fell asleep and went to the worlds like that!

For Roxas, Axel, Namine, and Xion's sakes! They all wanted to be whole so much....
The concept reminds me of the original version of the little mermaid, where the mermaid could gain a soul if a human truly loved her.
Except roxas and namine were already whole, and axle just became whole.
Except Axel didnt grow a new heart, and Roxas and Namine were separated from who they were for fan service.

Yay! Another Kingdom Hearts video by Clemps! I know what I'm watching on my lunch break.
My whole approach to game-breaking meta can basically be summed up as, "That can't stop me because I can't read!" I focused much more on sword-centric deck commands, so the broken stuff went completely over my head :D
I almost exclusively used Flowmotion for traversal, tho I do wish they'd just let us run along walls so that we didn't have to sewing-needle against the wall. It just sucks that the ultra-wide battle arenas weren't an accident; they're directly tied to our newfound ability to superdash 50 feet at a time from any wall in the room. This is the problem with any thoughtlessly-added parkour system; if the levels grow to accommodate you, then your _actual mobility_ isn't any better, but your _base running speed when not using parkour_ is more insufferably slow. Superdash basically becomes your new default walk.
Now, I called ten years ago that Nobodies have hearts, or feelings at the very least, because they're like transparently an allegory for depression. On the one hand, it was cool to see proof that I'd called out this BIG TWIST with nothing but literary analysis, but on the other hand the whole reliance on BIG TWISTS itself is annoying /: Similarly, I like the idea that dreaming 'takes you back to another time,' but they don't use that as thoughtfully as they could've. AND. They were so close to hinting that maybe darkness isn't all bad, because SLEEPING is darkness. You need a little bit of the dark to rest your tired eyes. But the writing goes straight back to the black-and-white LIGHT GOOD DARK BAD, YOU CAN ONLY BE ONE OR THE OTHER Star Wars crap.

@@BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE I feel like Nier would need to be incredibly watered down to fit. That and one short little cameo section wouldn't do that franchise justice with the nature of the narrative in Nier and Automata.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 I agree with more Square games, but also that Nier would be a poor fit. Narrative and themes (and legal logistics) aside, it's an M rated game, kind of a divide between older and younger fans. Unless Nomura wants kids to go watch Clemps' videos on them
